gaddafe:Well, we cannot just give up and not try. I go to museums wherever I go. Including 9ja and I see people there too. Do we close airports, shopping malls, bus garages and other places because one might be kidnapped or killed? I think not. All aspects of Nigerian economy are underutilised including finance, manufacturing, tourism, mining, education and agriculture. Despite herdsmen killing farmers, we cannot give up our cocoa, plantain or oil palm plantations or stop farming altogether. That would be defeatist. Benin can begin to push tourism with cultural festivals, the moat, artwork and the New museum in the offing. Waiting for monthly oil money allocation from Abuja as it is now is not sustainable. Thailand has tourism police /volunteers who patrol tourist spots. They don't have two heads or 4 hands in Thailand. We can do same. |
gaddafe:Dude, if you go to top museums of the world like Louvre in Paris, you will know how millions go to see Mona Lisa. Copies of Mona Lisa are everywhere but nobody cares about them. Try to understand how art and culture works regarding paintings, sculpture and other art works. You cannot compare a copy of Picasso, Monet, Van Gogh, or works by Michelangelo to cheap copies. |

gaddafe:They have produced lots of the stolen ones, using pictures from museums across the world. But copy nor be original. Some are centuries old and very valuable. They are are heritage. |
flokii:Truth hurts. If you still haven't realised it, then truly many of the current generation are more hopeless than the current old cargos holding sway now. Be comforting yourself as they drive people to IDP Camps in Benin Republic. Nor fight for your independence. Dealing decisively ko? How will that bring Olufon and others massacred in SW back? Pele. ![]() |
They will soon release them. 9ja is their conquered territory. The Estate of Uthman dan Fodio. Ahmadu Bello made it clear and has been Fulani policy ever since. Only Southerners claiming to be educated but have no sense don't know. |
Originalsly:Well, it's good to have Covid-19 and vaccine sceptics but it's good to have good first had experience of vaccinology to publicly assert things. Because such arguments in the beginning in most countries last year cost lives as conspiracy theories spread. I don't know how you know about virology or vaccinology but the terminologies used are pretty standard. mRNA or serious disease are mean what they mean if you know the the topic. I guess the failure has been that experts relied on their credibility to convince the masses instead trying to explain in layman terms. The world is different now due to social media. Conspiracy theories spread fast and pander to people's suspicion towards the authorities. Genetic vaccines are not new in development. DNA and rRNA types for different infections were already being developed, DNA was even in clinical trial. Vaccine development has not remained stagnant since the days of Jenner and Pasteur. It has moved on. Just like you now have iphone instead of telegraph or even recently landline. Live-attenuated vaccine like MMR wasn't going to cut it. Viral vector vaccine like Ebola vaccine wasn't that effect back then, though fairly quick to produce. Subunit vaccines use for most childhood vaccines like tetanus, meningococcus or diphtheria were also ruled out considering the urgency of it. Nucleic acid vaccine/DNA/mRNA is clearly the right approach. Here, only a tiny part of the genetic material needed to be copied and used to make the vaccine. The spike protein has proved ideal once the viral genome was very quickly sequenced by the Chinese and put online for scientist Ds to access. The terms used are clinical: disease means the pathology/illness resulting from infection/virus' activity (and body's reaction to it) inside the body. If mild, moderate or severe/serious. Hospitalisation: if the disease/illness needs hospital admission (meaning probably moderate or severe). Effective means how good is it at preventing at doing the job, as in if you vaccinate 100 people, how many will as a result not fall ill or die. If 75% or above you may say it's effective. It depends. Of course if 95% or above, even better. In the USA, vaccine use during Trump time was low. Governors complained of no PPE, no vaccines. Only since Biden did the vaccination hit 100m and now 200m. Biden actually promised 100m within 100 days and 200m to have been vaccinated within 200 days in office. He achieved 200m even earlier. Remember, if you caught covid-19 two days ago and get vaccinated today, the vaccine won't work yet. So the person if vulnerable may still get very ill or die. Trump denying supporters and Trump were not helpful to Covid fight. Many old vaccines need boosters after 10 years in many cases. Flu vaccine in Europe/America is taken yearly because the virus mutates quickly. A slightly new vaccine is needed. No vaccine is 100% effective, so don't expect Covid-19 to be. Even flu jab taken yearly is not 100%. |
Baiser:Your head dey there. The guy should be careful. She can ruin his reputation totally. What if she claims attempted forceful act? 90% of people will believe her. OP should quickly but amicably get rid of her. Locking her out, though she deserves it, if she goes missing or worse, her parents will not believe any story Op gives them. In fact they will consider the issue as Op's motive for harming her. |
Originalsly:India produces vaccines but not only for own use. Lots were produced on contract to send abroad. As a poor country/developing country, they have not vaccinated enough people. They are vaccinating 2.2million per day (as of 25/04/2021), meaning vaccinating 80% of over 18s (as planned by Indian Govt) from the 1.3 billion people will take till end of 2021. Remember most vaccines require two doses. The deaths are not linked to vaccines. Had India fully vaccinated up to just 350 million adults by now, especially over 45s that make up 80% of deaths in India, the death rate would be far less by now. If from 1st of May they can implement Phase 3 of the vaccination programme that will liberalise it to include access for anyone over 18 and do it speedily, they might reduce it quick enough. As for sudden rise, India recently had mass political rallies for several local election. Millions also went to the Ganges River celebrating Kumbh Mela, the Hindu pilgrimage and festival, largely without face masks and packed crowds. The festival regularly attracts around 100 million pilgrims and visitors. Super spreader situations. Experts predicted a massive upsurge in infections anyway seeing the crowds so packed. Mohdi was reckless in his campaigns, encouraging huge rallies and boasting of having controlled Covid-19. |
Emperor4tune:My brother, a person will ask for help here, you will ask them to do a simple verification of who they are and they will start telling why you they cannot verify themselves, how they don't want someone with them there to know. If it's a man posing as a woman or vice versa, they will be setting you a condition of when they can verify who they are. Most likely the time they can get a co-operative opposite sex friend to pose as them. We condemn the elite for being heartless and not caring about the masses. You want to be different and walk the talk as a little citizen and assist in your own little way but quite often it's pathetic low level scam. My concern is that it's some people genuinely in need that will lose out. One does get fed up seeing the suspicious attitude of some people claiming to be in need, so you just don't want to try anymore. |
vickydevoka:Well, when you marry your expenses increase right away but your income does not rise accordingly. I would expect even single people to know that. The primary responsibility is now to his immediate family. If not for lack of planning by we Africans, a man just beginning his family life in late 20s to mid 30s should not be carrying extended family wahala on his head too. We should breed as we can care for. |
vickydevoka:Most times those relatives are lazy, wasted money given them for business and refused the net you gave them to fish and expect to be given fish daily. We pray that we never have a toxic family. |
So Oshiomhole was just creating clan and king anyhow as a favour to a loyalist's father before leaving govt house? Na wa o. |
UGBE634:You are welcome my brother. I added more greetings to the post you quoted. Consider that Ohemwen descendants greet lavbieze too. An Iyase is an accomplished person usually. In ancient times, he probably already had many wives and kids. Upon appointment as next in power to the Oba, kings, dukes and other nobility from outside Benin/Edo, East and West, would easily offer him brides to gain powerful connections in Benin. Therefore, he could have even have more kids. Lagiesan greeters are also very many. Ezomo as war field commander was very rich. Wealth and marrying many wives and having plenty kids nor be today e start. ![]() Watch how soon the lunatic will descend here. ![]() |

UGBE634:My brother, that she-male called TUEH or whatever is his name. He is a Yaba Left character, highly irrational and suffers from severe delusion of grandeur. Don't waste your precious time with him except to post for rational but silent readers. Benin Empire was a highly meritocratic society. Artisans who distinguished themselves in war (or other endeavours important to the nation) were even elevated to nobility rank. Examples include Evian who became the interregnum administrator, Ode, who became Iyase Ode, Ogbeide Oyoo (from Anioma) for whom Oba Ovonramwen created the title Obaseki and rising to Iyase (Prime Minister) under the British. Every Benin person (including Oba's children and siblings) is Oba's servant and if they choose to call it slave, so be it. The British call it Queen's subjects, but tribalists only have issue with Benin matter. ![]() @ Davidnazee, Benin do not call it oriki per say but Benin being very open people who expanded East and West, only normal that we know other people far better. In Benin each family has praise name (uwanmwen) depending on ancestral line. It is usually in response to the morning salutations below: Ogiso descendants-Delaiso Eweka I descendants-Lamogun Oliha Descendants-Laogele Iyase Descendants-Lavbieze. Iyase is non-hereditary prime minister and changes salutation to lavbieze if not lavbieze before appointment. His descendants do so henceforth. So Lavbieze greeters may not be all related. Ohemwen family also greet Lavbieze so such greeters from that line are related. Ezomo descendants- Lagiesan Ero descendants- Lamosun Edohen descendants- Latose or Lauvbe Eholor n'Ire descendants- Laire Oloton descendants- Lamehi Edogun descendants- Lagiemwan Ogiefa descendants- Laidu. Idu direct descendants also greet Laidu Iyase of Udo -Lagiemwan (normally considered quasi Enogie/Duke of Udo but can be replaced in the role by Uwangue of Udo. No substantive duke in Udo since defeat of Prince Aruaran who was duke of Udo about 500 years ago). Elawure of Usen descendants- Delaihe Ojima of Okeluhen descendants- Laugha. Enogie/Duke of Egor descendants- Lauihe Iyase of Uselu descendants- Layede There are dozens more. |
Nice thread |
Fact is that terrorists have already overran Nigeria. Those in the corridors of power are only using flowery language to describe it as bandits. So that they can keep milking the Commonwealth dry while their kids, grandkids and girlfriends chill in safe countries like UAE, UK, Canada and so on. But America has already declared half of Nigeria as no go areas. The States not declared unsafe yet, interstate routes between them are already unsafe due to kidnappers and robbers. Soon, Somalia with be a child's play. |

bukatyne:My dear, truth is that there is no good marriage adviser out there. Nobody knows where another person's shoe pinches. If you are lucky, you will get your best marriage advice from childhood at home. It's not words but how your parents related to each other. If they failed in their marriage, hopefully one learns from parents' failure. Secondly, no two marriages or circumstances are exactly same. Every married couple must sit their Jamb, UMTE and go through the whole course, with tests and exams all the way but never graduate. Unless a marriage/union has become toxic or violent or bad for any kids involved, I stay far away from advising anyone. People always end up doing what they want anyway, advise or no advise. |
Mikehot:Benue people are not too different from Southern people. Vegetation, rainfall and food are similar. Food affects physique. |
nemynely:Am tellin u. Lilly-livered cowards, all of them. Why embark on something without sounding out stakeholders first? Why make noise about something so massive when you have no plans to weather the storm of opposition and forge ahead? Why other European clubs believed they could rely on UK clubs is beyond me. |
Mugulseun:9ja lost a lot o. It's a pity |
We already know how the story go go. Women will condemn this guy 99%, because many know they are not better than the said lady knackaton wise. About 30% of woman wrapper men will join the women. 70% of men will support the OP. ![]() |
1MILLIONLiGHTS:Gbam! Nobody stays the same. In fact, it is just that you cannot fully know the other side of most people. The way they behave when they feel they have arrived is different from when they were struggling. It takes an extra ordinary person to remain as they were before. |
Las las each person is fighting for himself. When push comes to shove, it is every man for himself and God for us all. |
dammypat:Thank God you are pointing this out. If I did, they won't believe me. Some people nor know anything o. We have related languages in Edo and Delta that are same as some Ondo languages. I mean same, not just similar. But because people don't travel well or observe properly, they know very little. Or perhaps just blinded and deafened by tribalism that they cannot see or hear. You are correct, Ife Yoruba is even fairly closer to some Ondo dialects. |
somehow:Well, today Nigeria means Niger Area. Niger is from Nigro meaning Black. Nigeria = Black Area. The British gave it to us. So no wonder even NEPA gives us blackness. ![]() Countries like Ghana changed from Gold Coast, Upper Volta to Burkina Faso, Dahomey sought permission of Oba of Benin to rename their country Republic of Benin. But Giant of Africa could not change from Niggar area. ![]() At least in Benin, there is Ivbiedo (plural for Edo people) or Edo that people call themselves. Nigeria has no such indigenous alternative. |
Donaldomo:Simple answer : nobody knows everything. But books on. Benin history were being written in my presence write early teens. I read them even before publication. |
somehow:The bolded is only partly correct. The Portuguese called it Beny by 1473. By 1553 when the British came they called it Benin-City, due to how organised, well-planned, well administered and clean the city was. Actually, it was coastal subjects in Delta who told the Portuguese that the overload/King of Ubini was in the interior. By the 1470s, the former tentative name Ubini had been replaced by Edo decades earlier. It was renamed Edo in 1440 by Oba Ewuare I to honour Edo, a brave executed servant who had saved his life as a prince because the tussle for the crown had turned deadly. Fact is Ubini or Ile-Ubini was never really accepted by Benin people as a name. It was a name outsiders called Igodomigodo. Today, Urhobo call Benin Aka, Igbo call it Idu, etc. Although both have known good historical reasons to refer to Benin as Aka and Idu but Benin/Edo people do not call themselves such. Yoruba even call it Ado. Idu was the founder of Edo/Benin nation. Igodomigodo was the real first name Edo/Benin called themselves. The Second self-given name (by Oba Ewuare I) was Edo. Ubini/Beny/Benin or whatever variations was NOT given to Igodo/Edo people by themselves and thus never used in Edo Language. There is no Ovbie Benin or Ovbie Bini. It is Ovbiedo. It was previously Ovbie Igodo. Since Benin became known worldwide as an Empire, for easy recognition sake, Benin is preferred, not Bini. None of the two is indigenous to Edo people anyway. There is actually nothing like Bini or Benin Language if you look at it in its purest form. It is Edo Language. Unu no z'Edo. Nothing like Unu no ze Bini or Unu no ze Benin. Over time, outsiders may find an easy way to describe a people, but the people do not call themselves such even though they tolerate or accept it for international diplomacy sake. Japanese call their country Nihon (sounds as Nippon) as Land of the Rising Sun. While the people are Nihonjin and the language is Nihongo. No matter how much we outsiders call the people Japanese or their country Japan, they remain who they call themselves. I hope this clarifies it better. |
somehow:Actually Benins are called Edo. I still wonder why Edo was chosen as name of the State. May be it was politics, maybe calling it Benin State would imply Oba of Benin as the only monarch. People of Edo South do not call themselves Benin (Bini that is totally wrong by the way as the palace has made clear many times). Since at least 1440 Edo South people have called themselves Edo. Benin City it was called Oredo. The Europeans used Benin Kingdom or Benin Empire, Benin was for their convenience. In reality, Benin State should have been used because it covers far more people than people of Edo South. Before 1991, if you said "I am Edo or Ovbiedo", it meant you come from Edo South. Edo North and Central people didn't identify as Edo then. It might surprise many on Nairaland, as most were not born yet before 1991. The other side of the coin is that knowingly or unknowingly, calling it Edo State actually narrows everyone more to being from Edo South. |
