Edwinmason:The reality is that the chances of surviving a massive heart attack are still not that high. Doctors can do their best, but nature plays a big role. As in patient's body. That many young and fit footballers only rarely survive it shows the danger of it. Former West Ham's Muamba was extremely lucky. |
Nice. |
RIP. Had people not played politics with Boko and supported Jonathan's fight, Boko might be history now. But Buhari said back then: fighting Boko Haram is fighting the North. Now Buhari has power but countless lives lost, including this Lt. Col's. |
PatrickAnyanwu:The way Southerners do not understand the mindset & agenda of the North shows that education is not wisdom. We are here pretending as if the average Northerner respects our constitution more than a toilet paper. Where in our constitution is beheading a woman for preaching written? Where is death penalty for blasphemy written? |
emmyid:As in going from Babalawo to Dibia/ezemo to Atiku's marabout? ![]() We have very little sense of charity in 9ja. And very cynical towards those who give. There are many Nigerian villages with dilapidated school buildings, no potable water or even a borehole, no clinic, no town/meeting hall, not even proper toilets. Yet their kids are doing great in the cities & diaspora. Nothing given back to their community. Some are even too scared of village people to visit there. One thing Igbo people do better than most other ethnic groups. They do more development in their villages/communities. |
frtryr:Sadly not true. A new breed of apprentice thieves will immediately graduate & take over. Is it people like Dimeji Bankole, Salisu Bangagida, Farouk Lawal or James Ibori that will make better leaders? Some mentioned at their relatively young age are already agbalagba thieves sef. ![]() The system that threw up the old thieves (remember some have been at it for over 40 years now), will also throw up new jet age thieves. Our system & orientation have to change. |
What if pythons decide to revenge one day? That would be "Python Menace". ![]() In 50 years, pythons will become like elephants & chimps in Nigeria. Very rare. I knew of people who would be well over 120 years old now if still alive. They all saw elephants being killed growing up. To be called "elephant killer" was a badge of honour. Felling such a giant animal with simple local guns was seen as a feat then. I still grew up to meet some old men called "elephant killer" in local language. I never even got to know what their real names were. That's how much that sobriquet stuck with them. As kids, they also sometimes ran into chimpanzees & different types of monkey (some not seen anymore now) around fruit tress on their way to the farm. |
People work hard in many parts of the world. Some succeed in achieving great things still. We all desire a fairer society but there will always be people who will have to work hard. The boy is learning something very important in life: multi-tasking. And an early insight that making money requires work. He could become a financially smart person, whatever he chooses to do in life. |
ehix89:Considering that our ancient ancestors had barely anything, is she suggesting that they should have allowed humans go into extinction? While not having too many kids is a good thing, I think we are all too quick to label anyone without all the ogbonge modern material stuff, nice house, etc as wallowing in poverty. Very subjective and matter of zeitgeist. |
uairaland:Abi o. Some kids still go for kilometres to first fetch water from the river especially during dry season when nearby streams have dried up, before trekking more kilometres to school. Daily. Often on empty stomach. So this scenario in the pic is all too common. Millions of kids are even worse off sef. |
The beaten NAPTIP man is a fool raised to power trillion. A woman cheating on you (a married man) with a senior police officer and you begin form Mike Tyson, wetin you expect? The silly lady, presumably single, was just using both. Just imagine if she got pregnant, who would she have given the baby to?? |
While it is good to demonise any Boko member, many are actually victims of brainwash & drugging. Kidnapped and forced into it. She could have been anybody's sister. What I see are victims all round. Hardly a reason for jubilation. By the time Boko is over, we will have been seriously desensitised about death of fellow citizens. When gunned down for any reason by the authorities. Even further eroding a sense of community. |
Great Tosyne. ![]() |
RIP Sir. |
mrkeys226:But a smart & realistic Nigerian will fail that test. Reason is in Nigeria, the correct answers are not reality. For example, instead of providing & protecting, 9ja govt causes problems for its people. ![]() |
TonyeBarcanista:I wonder o. How many european countries export home grown rice to Nigeria? Is our rice not mostly from USA, Thailand and some other Asian countries? What has stockfish from Scandinavia/Norway got to do with rice self-sufficiency? All this there is plenty of rice will make sense if we begin to see a bag of rice for under 8k. |

Some babes will say "leave me jor". Ol' boy if you hear that, it's time to hold her very tight indeed. ![]() |
Rossikk:Ok. Where was China, Indonesia & Malaysia technologically in say 1974? And GDP? Not much better than us. In 20 years time, we will be saying Rwanda or Burundi have better GDP figures to explain why they are ahead of us. We will forget that while we were basking in "giant of Africa foolery" in 1994, those folks were still busy butchering themselve. But reconciled and decided to get things right. In 9ja, we never run out of excuses for mediocrity. |
xykms101:How nice. He managed all the money away to Zurich/Geneva/Bern, USA, UK, Lebanon, etc. But at least he was very intelligent and had excellent memory according to those who knew him for many years. He at least knew how to balance things. Like stable currency. Unlike our dear Bubu who seems very much at a loss. |
Very educative thread. Thanks. |
beamie:Is it because Michael Jackson died in June? ![]() |
seunoj:Seconded plus location? |
I think we all need a reality check with religious things. Religion as an idea isn't bad. If practiced with love & harmony with oneself, fellow beings & nature. But sadly, religions seem to make us sit on a high horse & dishing out sanctimonious judgement of others. Even when we know that when properly examined, we probably have more flaws than the next person. If we followed actual teachings of the prophets about love & compassion, we would be better people & the world a better place. The spirituality & reward of it in heaven or wherever would be a personal thing. |
edudguy:Sad. RIP. Life expectancy is only about 53 years in 9ja. Accident and infectious diseases kill a lot of young people and kids. These and other common causes easily cancel out the ages of old men and women whose burials we attend and feel that people live into old age. |
vani86:Just telling you that it is difficult to know one. So it might just be blissful ignorance like the guy I mentioned. Plus your definition of olosho might be too narrow & conventional for the 21st century. Holding that view might be totally outdated. So that when you actually get married, never be too sure. Except you're marrying a genuine virgin. Because even some middle eastern babes that studied/lived in the West for example restore virginity before marriage. ![]() |
vani86:I know one proud guy, who sees himself as smarter than other people, married to a pretty olosho, their kids are even big now. He does not know till now. She still cannot look into my eye whenever she sees me, but I guess grateful that I kept her secret. When I saw her in a party for the first time, I never knew. But a friend told me that the group of girls sitting together there were oloshos. Very fine girls o. I later confirmed it & she knew that I knew. Then I realise that if that guy could marry one not knowing, it can happen to anyone. Since we men tend to consider beauty first when chasing a girl. That's life. |
AllTheWayUp:I wonder o. Nearly half of girls marrying these days might qualify as covert or coded oloshos. What would you call girls juggling 10 men to fund studies or life generally & then get preggy and give it to the one that appears most eligible or not married among the men? One that has always fallen yakata to pass course at school, pay landlord in kind, use it to attract depositors or secure employment? Yes, pastors, doctors, teachers, lawyers, bankers and everyone else are marrying oloshos everyday. Anyone of us can marry one & never know. The official oloshos are just the honest & honourable ones these days. No news here. |
Nigeria govt has no business managing an Airline. Our govt cannot manage anything. Both govt & civil servants are too corrupt. Govt should provide an enabling environment & solid economic policies & let private sector run airlines. Not with tax tax payers' money. |
See expulsion from Kannywood has taken her to Nollywood. ![]() |
Location? |
Actually I have been appalled in the past when a woman never even mentioned the c-word before intercourse. A woman who carries it in the bag is not any more promiscuous than the one that doesn't. There is too much pretending going on. My only objection would be her taking the used condo away, under guise of disposing of it. Ritualists are everywhere these days. ![]() |
