Michael Jackson is known for a lot of good.....using him to buttress a point about failed child stars is just wrong
A lot of good or not. Jackson himself admitted he had no childhood, in fact a very sad one. So he had a failed childhood. It affected every aspect of his life. It is even on tape. Jackson is the very ultimate example of bad childhood.

I doubt if you followed his career better than me when he was making hits then. I even had the chance to be in his live concert 24 years ago. grin

He can be the DJ for kids birthday parties for starters. We just aren't used to having kids work over here that's why it seems foreign to you. What of the kids abroad who are Disney stars singing and acting, or those with regular jobs. It helps if they get used to the concept of working early enough though it should be in moderation so it doesn't affect their studies.
But we also know how tragically most child stars end up, like Michael Jackson and many actors.

I wish this boy good luck and a successful balanced life.

Sometimes I can see why we Africans are making no headway. Instead of seriously working towards excellence, we sit there jumping at every tale of miracle. We know miracle can happen. That is something science cannot explain.

But which race or nation subscribes to miracle for food, infrastructure, education and so on and ever got anywhere?

A man did not get diagnosis of HIV, did not refuse treatment and only prayed and got retested again repeatedly and given all clear, how is that a miracle?

With some responses here, our education system is a big failure. It cannot produce enough critical thinkers with analytical minds that drive any modern country.

This is where you are all getting it wrong, SW didn't vote against GEJ out of hatred, it was because we think he's incompetent, if we feel same again bubu, we simply vote against him.
Nope. They said he was doing nothing for SW & SW people were being marginalised. Plus OBJ thought GEJ's term would be his third term ambition by proxy. Just like he thought about Yar'Adua's.

OBJ is influential in SW. Soon they all teamed up with SW media & with the North against GEJ.

Sadly, most current SW leaders are not as smart as Awo. Over 50 years ago, Awo understood the North better & refused doing business with backward & conservative people.

Now, SW leaders have soiled the name of progressive politics Awo laboured for by giving a total conservative that platform, APC.

when you do wayo too much, you will con yourself. grin cheesy

Now we can see how great the "competent & efficient Buhari" is performing now & SW people are enjoying better quality of life than GEJ's time. grin

How well did OBJ do in his 8 years?

So you just keep using sentiment to vote out people until a coup comes up again? shocked shocked

Do not misunderstand me. I was relieved when GEJ left Aso Rock. They could have killed him there, being surrounded by snakes who think they own Nigeria.

Well fact is showing pics of haggard looking girls is no evidence. Those names were not pulled out from a "pre-kidnap" biometric register that centrally captured their biodata. So anything is possible in 9ja.

If you go to any city in 9ja in this Buhari recession, you can pick 21 more haggard looking girls from any popular bus stop in 10 minutes, maybe in 2 minutes sef in Lagos & in 30 seconds in Kano. cheesy

Why are pastors called Papa?

I really want to know why

Meanwhile congrats to the recipients

cool
It dates back to the Catholic church where the pastor of a church is called Father or Reverend Father. In fact after training/education & being invested/sworn as a priest. The head of a convent would also be called Mother for example. Mother Theresa became a famous one.

Most other church denominations derived from schism from catholic church and further schisms down the line.

Just like you didn't know, the vast majority of churchgoers across the accountable church groups today do not know either. cheesy

For most, it is because Daddy X or Y founded the church or is head of the church & the most important person therein. cool

You are a very big liar. I have lived in St. Petersburg for 15 years and never experienced anything like this....there are few racists and incidents but nobody will stare at you in those countries since everywhere is filled with blacks and they even have more than 3 Nigerian restaurant and one of it is run by my wife. Is it by force to make it to the front page?
Even when I was living in Novosibirsk as the very few black person. I never experienced any form of racism and the occasional stares was out of curiosity not hate.
Unless maybe you are a remarkably ugly person or your attire was unbelievably ancient or weird which in that case you will get stares even in you hamlet
Well, I know of people living in Russia who say racism is serious there. Others lived there for over a decade back in the 1970s & 80s and say it was ok. We should not dismiss other people's experiences. They can vary. You still sometimes suffer obvious bigotry from very educated people even in the West where laws exist & mostly enforced.

I have always had in mind to visit Saint Petersburg one day: The Hermitage/museum & theater, Winter Palace, Peter & Paul Cathedral, etc.
Would be nice watching Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker ballet right there. kiss

Those dudes/dudettes up there or wherever you chose to put them have better things to worry about in the 21st century.
You think only the breathing covet fine things?

You better go pour libation with original imported gin than worry about their sensibilities. grin

Anyhow, by coming forward & sticking my head above the parapet, I have expected missiles thrown. And many have been thrown over the years. One would be accused of pride, showing off and whatnot. Interestingly, in real life I do not show any sign of origins. In fact a colleague nearly found out I might be related to certain people. He peeped over my shoulder and saw my email content. I dismissed it as the name being very common. Very unprofessional, but he's a fellow 9ja person so I let it slide.

I am totally anonymous here and I feel free to talk more & answer questions or join debates. I have never claimed that my stories are 100% correct. But compared with my peers, I began writing down information gleaned from the elders at a young age. Most came from people who had nothing to gain from any propaganda. Nigeria was not even so ethnically divided then.

A great many of them lived their lives as Ado-Akure people, certainly well into early adulthood and generally considered Yoruba.
For most they just relayed what they knew as the truth growing up. Much of which has changed and obliterated since 1914. For example, many minor chiefs have lobbied their way with the establishment & risen to 3rd class, 2nd class & now even 1st class monarch. Many, as it is popular in Yorubaland have suddenly plotted their direct descendance from Ododuwa. Benin is different. There is only one King. All dukes created same time as Ogiame of Warri, Eleko of Eko, Obis, Ovies and others, all remain dukes in current Benin Kingdom, which is just a tiny bit of ancient Benin Empire. While their peers of then are now first class monarchs outside current Benin Kingdom.

Any mention of any current Yoruba King descending from a king outside today's Yorubaland would be laughed at, pretty much as we see here now on NL. The case of Lagos (Benin influence) is just too profound and documented that it has been difficult to cut it out of history, not for want of trying by many though.

FYI, I take my time to write because I know there are very many silent readers out there. However long & tangential it may seem.

To be continued.

I just wish it'd stop happening, if you are tired of your marriage just walk away and pls don't leave a man penniless, its suicidal.
just recently my mum told me about our church girl, she just came back from rural Cameron to stay with one of our church brothers, very dirty, illiterate poor girl this family brushed up.unfortunately one of our deacons son fell in luv with this girl to the point of marrying her.just 3 mths later his papers arrived and he travelled abroad, his family was just managing and rily looked up to this guy.he later came back to take this girl abroad, put her in school she is about graduating as a nurse this year but the news came that she is threatening the guy with divorce if he doesn't allow her mother to come and live with them.
the guys parents are late now and the church board tried to settle the issue and the girl opened her mouth to insult the same church that helped to cater for her welfare while in Nigeria.
As it stands my guy is putting up with this girl just because of the 2 boys and the idea of starting all over again and yes mama is now living there.life can be cruel at times.
Well, if the church had not been insulted too I doubt if people would have understood what the hubby is putting up with. The guy needs to careful. The lady & her mum might finish him off finally & kick him out. The handwriting is on the wall already.

pickabeau1:
Why not just marry a lady there already or even use a surrogate

Why suggest deliberately leaving apart from your partner
I doubt with the age of some of the men mentioned, if they did not already marry a black or white American lady to secure kpali.

People often know why the chose to marry from home.
One major reason is the future. Lots of men have the desire to return home in the future. The idea is if at least you marry a woman from 9ja, better still from your area of ethnicity, planning to return home together 20 or 30 years later would be easier. Though increasingly, women are becoming less inclined to return home permanently. People also dream that being from same place, the kids can be imparted with some of our traditional culture, language, together more easily. People hold on to 9ja values a lot. Whatever the level of education.

Some of those men also already have a bad experience with discrimination (having arrived in the days of more serious racism) or bad experience with a Yankee lady. A 9ja lady who's supposed to at least know our culture, if she now disappoints the hubby, it becomes double painful.

There's actually much logic behind the step of marrying from home. But fact is when empowered, human behaviour hardly follows logic.
Sometimes, you need to have seen how things happen abroad over a long period of time to really appreciate my point.

Compare Tinubu versus Buhari, OBJ versus GEJ. grin

As for living apart, won't you prefer your friend alive & well in 9ja than dead in America? It is not ideal, neither is death. shocked
