b] Everybody seems to be claiming the Yoruba's came from them. The Benin's claim the Yoruba's are from there, Ile-Ife says Yoruba started from there, Alafin of OYO says the Yoruba started from his Kingdom, Soun of Ogbomosho too, and now your small country side community is claiming that too?Maybe the Yoruba's really need to tell us where they come from.
You're getting many things wrong. In fact you're mixing things up. The Benin never claim that Yoruba come from Benin. But I have met dozens of Yoruba who erroneously claim the the reverse. What the Benin say is that Ododuwa was an exiled Benin prince called Ekaladerhan who upon succeeding to leadership in Ile-Ife exclaimed "Ima de oduwa" roughly meaning " I have not missed my destiny (which was to be a king being born a crown prince) or "I have not missed the path of fortune". Linguistically, Bini and Yoruba are very different. Whereas Edoid languages Like Bini, Urhobo, Esan, Isoko, Ivbiosakon dialects, Degema, Ososo and Edoid minority languages in Ondo & Bayelsa and so on have noticeable commonalities. The best anthropologists worldwide like Krueger pretty much agree on this. There is a difference between Yoruba origin and Ododuwa. This should be obvious by now. While Ododuwa organised and centralised power by installing his children in various parts of Yorubaland just about 800 years ago, Yorubas have been in SW Nigeria for at least 3000 years! Lie most people, Yorubas would be a mix of various origins, arriving in several waves. Heck, how impossible is it that God first created man in Yorubaland? Must everything happen elsewhere? Even then the concept of a single Yoruba identity is pretty new, 200 years maybe. You were previously Ife, Oyo, Egba, Awori, Owo, Ijebu, and so on. The people of Eastern Yorubaland like Owo, Akure, Ondo, Ekiti, apart from having substantial Edo population during Benin imperial time, they probably had more influences from Benin than from Oyo or Ife. I have families in Edo and Ondo states, even Ekiti, so Ik now. Nations have been ruled by foreign Kings since antiquity: Egypt by Ptolemy (Greek), UK by Sachs-Coburg-Gotha from Germany that descendants changed name to Windsor, The Frenchman General Bernadotte's family still rule Sweden. Ex-King of Greece from Denmark/Germany, William the Conqueror from Normandy/France ruled England. Oranmiyan dynasty still rules in Benin. With all the Ife/Yoruba influences that came with it. In Benin we just want a scientific and plausible history of Ododuwa. Him coming across Gulf of Aden, across desert North Africa heading into a small village in the rainforest is not plausible. He would have died of mosquito in no time. |
alagbasuyi:Abi o. |
Iykopee:Why did this man promise to rid Boko in 2 months? He has boys in the armed forces and sure knows the state of our military hardware before campaigning. So all was just scam. Na wa o. We're now seriously f*cked. |
KingKuntaVart:A big slap. To go to US and be told about gayism. Can he dare tell that sh*t to the Saudis who don't allow women to vote or drive, let alone travel alone. And they are his best buddies. Na see finish dem see us finish. |
illiad:I think we have long lost our pride. Obama planned a visit to Ethiopia & Kenya this month, and GMB still went on a jamboree to America. If the largest black nation is not worth visiting by Obama because his white handlers say so, then they are not worth visiting too. Except they used the chance to purchase properties in Potomac and nearby Virginia. Because we all know America won't offer anything, except they first turn us gay and give us peanuts. |
folteminvestment:Thanks for the info. I later realised that male/female aspect. I guess for meat, male is the better one. How much is the male going for each? We lost dozens of day old turkeys recently, as a new farmer and thinking of moving away from day olds. Though am not directly doing the farming. I'm a bit worried about the stress of a long journey from Ibadan and how it will affect them. |
One reason 9ja project nor go get head. So called leaders are not ready to fight corruption. Only vandetta and scape-goats here and there. Any probe that does not involve thorough power sector probe is a scam. |
GogobiriLalas:A rich influential private citizen with such a huge & diverse business interest that influencing the senate would definitely benefit him. Yet this senator sees no potential conflict of interest. He might even become chair of an influential senate business or trade committee. Na 9ja we dey, anything goes. |
SouthernBreeze:Hmmmmm...........as for project fowl will grow teeth first. This sacking & demotion regime. Maybe one of GEJ's train routes will be ready soon for them to commission. ![]() |
teekay213:This may be "ogun owo" stuff if true. Living up to name I guess. ![]() Truth be told Ogun just happens to accommodate lots of riff-raff due to proximity to Lagos. |
folteminvestment:Thanks for the pics. There are two sizes of turkeys in it. The PoL 7 months old @ 4k each are which of the them? The white medium sized ones? And how many turkeys will they charge that 2000 for? Which breeds are these turkeys? |
josite:Nigerians are educated but most are not really civil or courteous. Except to foreigners and immediate family/associates. What is wrong with what Abati wrote? I would expect a PA to the MD of a medium-sized commercial bank to be extremely busy. Let alone an aid to the president of a country the stature of Nigeria. Did many of us benefit from the govt he served? Absolutely not. But we didn't also benefit from most govts since 50 years. But he had a job to do. To be a media aid in an era of social media & 24/7 news can't be easy. Lies allowed to circulate for 30 minutes without a firm rebuttal can easily assume the status of a biblical truth. Fact remains that most people would have accepted the job if offered. And most would have done worse (corruption and all) more than Abati. Nor be 9ja we dey? |
anonimi:Word. Discipline is crucial. |
jaxxy:Can you pics: engine, body, interior? Location? Year built? |
VenusBetty:Lots of people just don't have the resilience, discipline, humility or seriousness to manage a relationship these days. They therefore try to justify it by any means. I get to meet many elderly people who thought having a family was too much work when young. They flew around the world enjoying holidays. You pity them coming for health care, so lonely, accompanied by a stranger/carer. Some even die alone. |
Looks cool |

Car location? Can we see a pic of engine? |
nice |
How many seat rows? Engine pic? |
masinga07:They have a game plan. To strike later. But the fiasco has become embarrassing, so they want to obfuscate the public for now. ![]() |
carinmom:Ask the poster of those figures not me. But from talking to women in my line of job, well over 60% have committed abortion. Not even once sef. From experience, lower in the West/Europe but higher in 9ja. I can't say about core North though, no experience there. Sure most mothers will exhibit "Fright, Fight or Flight" reaction in an emergency, even animals do that, some fighting off much larger predators from its babies. So basing my conclusion on my experience & those of colleagues, and if I use abortion as a yardstick, then the poster of those figures has been very generous/charitable. I know the reigning thing now is for women to see every criticism through the prism of sexism, chauvinism & oppressed gender. The fact of the matter is completely irrelevant. The politics is more important. And its a great disservice to a very necessary introspection. |
carinmom:Do you also count the vast majority of girls who abort babies as good mothers? Or you think only a born child is worth saving or rescuing? If the baby in that pic had been aborted, would there be a baby to rescue by her mum? I Know what will follow next: did the women who abort impregnate themselves? No. But it's entirely the woman's decision to abort or not. What if she was raped? That can be discussed but by FAR most ladies aborting were not rape. If sadly a girl was raped, the baby can still be given up for adoption. |
holytribe:The few that went to school got juicy jobs, many switching from state civil service to Federal easily at same grade ahead of many Southerners. Even though many got into state civil service with far lower credentials. I still remember one recent local university graduate, from the North who was appointed boss of my uncle at NNPC during IBB's time. My uncle was a Dutch and Canadian trained engineer with NNPC for very many years. The Hausa guy spent his time carrying girls all over the local university. Na so we see am. Dem say na federal character. |
GGfadar:Nice one. |
SenJoe:Don't blame them. We accepted their cultural imperialism. Some blacks can never be seen dead wearing anything African. |
Yommiefish: Sir, here's a place to share info. Please state the prices here openly and let others benefit. @Yommifish, Who made this request? "We" here mean Myself & Ihustler who seconded my request and most likely many other silent NLers that don't necessarily comment. I was silent for many years before I even signed to NL. |
Utchgirl:Frustration, hate, bigotry & tribalism won't let some people see road. They can never be positive. God forbid! I pitied 9ja the day that woman had a committee hearing in NASS and HoR people tried frustrating her for refusing to pay bribe. The same people who asked for bribe were the ones asked to look into the matter. I would have resigned from that job if I was her. 9ja never serious about moving forward. VERY BIG congrats to her, fine lady. ![]() |
