I have not seen an oppressive Government like that of Buhari since the days of Abacha almost 20 years ago |
amc:Oh yeah, he said all those things. But you know what? Chapter 4 of the Nigerian constitution ( freedom of speech and expression) allows him to say all those things and even worse if he wishes to. What is important is if anyone committed any crime on Kanus orders and nobody has, so far. If you don't like what Kanu said, then start a campaign to remove free speech from the constitution. That way, we will know that Kanu has done something wrong. Until then, shut up. |
dickrider:Sorry bro but the White man cannot come from Europe to Africa to give you your country. It is not/was not the job of Lord Lugard to tell the Yoruba/Hausa man that the Igbos are their brother and that we are all one. Instead, it is the job of Igbos to decide for themselves who their brothers are. You cannot get a country by forcing anyone to be together and if you insist on 'unity by force', then expect people to rebel. Nigerians are one of those few people who expect unity and progress to come from an alter of falsehood. |
amc:Oh he was saying what you don't like on videos and interviews? While your Government is releasing Boko Harm insurgents who have actually taken up arms and killed people? You are right! Kanu is the worst of them all! |
dickrider:Freedom is more important than money |
Alcatraz003:Igbos already uprooted and left in 1967. It was your fathers who came down to the East to fight for 3 years to bring them back. One wonders what would have become of Lagos if the British had not moved the Capital of Nigeria from Calabar to Lagos. |
kstix:Even Hittler achieved many heroic feats for Germany. Why do you think Germany never put him on the Deutche Mark? Hittler and Murtala were both coup plotters, genocidal killers and dictators. The only difference between them is that Hitler killed far more people. |
I remember sometime in the 90's when my cousin came back from the UK and 'dashed' me £15 pounds. On the 5 pound note was Florence Nigthingale, the British woman creditated with inventing modern day Nursing profession. On the 10 pound note was Isaac Newton, renouned British physicist. All over the world, different nations honour their heroes and celebrated citizens by giving them a place of priviledge on their local currency. Those heroes are usually people of impeccable character who have contributed positively to the country and even the wider world. People worth emulating. It is therefore shocking that a country like Nigeria can give a coup plotter, failed Soldier, genocidal killer, mass-murderer and despot such Murtala Ramat Mohammed a place of honour on the N20 note. It is a national disgrace and embarrassment that a man like Murtala Mohammed can be celebrated in our soceity this way after all the crimes he committed in his life time. Murtala's crimes are too numerous but I will mention just 3. 1) He led the counter coup of July 1966 where he superviced the systematic slaughter of over 300 fellow Soldiers, mostly of Eastern extraction which included General Ironsi. Murtalas coup then took on ethnic and religious connotations and ultimately resulted in over 50,000 people, men, women and children being killed. 2) At the start of the war, Murtala Mohammed marched into Asaba. The few Asaba indigenes who still believed in 'one Nigeria' came out to welcome the Federal troops at cable point area of the city. Almost 1000 of them were gunned down on the spot by Murtala's men. 3) Retreating Biafran troops had blown up the Niger Bridge leading into Onitsha. Murtala was warned by Army headquarters that Biafran Soldiers had taken up defensive positions on the other side of the River. He was told to go up north where it was safe to cross the River. Murtala, believing in his false sense of bravado as a military tactician, disregarded direct orders and tried to cross the River into Onitsha 3 times. All met with huge catastrophe amongst his troops. Thousands of Nigerian soldiers were used as target practice by the Biafran Soldiers while others drowned in the River. Murtala then went up North and crossed the River then tried again to invade Onitsha. He led a contingent of 100 trucks full of troops, ammunition and supplies but was but was stopped at Abagana and completely destroyed. Murtala barely made it out of that battle with his life. After this episode, Murtala was recalled from the war front and sent on indefinite leave to London after leading thousands of men to their deaths due to his bad leadership. Murtala was one of the worst Officers ever produced by the Nigerian Army. He was a homicidal maniac, accomplished coup plotter, genocidal killer, war criminal, military dictator and a narcissist of incredible dimensions. Why is this evil man on the N20 note? |
KnowAll:Yaradua was not even a Brigadier then, he was just a Lt Colonel. It was after the coup that he was given double promotion and made a Brigadier to please the North. |
Drchristian:And after that statement, you still don't understand why freedom is important? Who would want to be part of an entity that kills millions to justify its existence? Only a crazy person. I've got to hand it to the Biafran Engineers of the time. Under blockade, under areal bombardment, they still manage to build refineries, guns and the dreaded 'Ogbunigwe'. Biafra fought the combined myght of the Nigeria,Britain and Russia and held out for 3 years. |
I can also post that Nnamdi Kanu is going to the next King of England. If Kanu was going to renounce Biafra, he would not need an obsolete organisation like MEND to do it for him. |
This another Lagos-Ibadan-Expressway report. How can Kanu renounce Biafra "in secret"? Are these people crazy? They can't even make up a story that is believable. The issue of Biafra is much bigger than Kanu. Even if Kanu were to publicly denounce Biafra (something we all know he is never going to do) it would not change anything and neither will it dampen the agitation |
kazuna:Stop talking like that. These are Fulani herdsmen armed with AK 47's. What are the Villagers going to fight them with? Dane Guns? Blame the successive Governments that have looked the other way while the Fulani Marauders openly brandish sophisticated firearms. If it is how to shoot unarmed, IPOB, that's the one the Government security agencies will know to do. But if it is to confront armed criminal Fulani gangs, everyone will disappear. |
iSlayer:It is not possible that another Ohaneze can be created. It would be too difficult to do that. Igbos are too Republican and egalitarian for that. It simply cannot be done. |
DaveAnte14:You hit the nail on the head. I laugh at threads like this suggest that a good leaders or lack of it is the problem of Nigeria. Though Nigeria has a problem of bad leadership, it has an even bigger problem of system of Government. Nobody can expect Nigeria to be run under this unitary system and expect any meaningful progress, that's like expecting to beat Hussein Bolt at a 100 meters race with an injured leg. We must return to true federalism and regionalism. 2 sets of referendum must be held, the first is to create Regions and the second, for everyone to decide what Region they want to belong to. Some people might be comfortable being with Igbos in their Region, others might be ok with Yorubas, but everyone gets to decide. That way, it won't matter who is president because the Regions will be in control of the resources and politics. |
As an Igbo man, I laugh at Yorubas when they try to justify the unity of Nigeria. People talk about Nigeria as if we all want to be together because 'project Nigeria' is sacrosanct, it isn't. The vision of Lord Lugard is not necessarily the vision of the Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba man. It is for us all to craft our own individual vision. I have no doubt in my mind that had Lugard and The Royal Niger Company not come to West Africa, the Yoruba and Hausa man would not have known who the Igbo man is. But because that accident of history happend, the Yoruba and Hausa man now know that their real country is "one Nigeria". I feel like laughing but I can't laugh as much Lord Lugard must be laughing in his grave. The only reason Nigeria exists today is for the political and economic expediency of the North, anyone thinking otherwise is just fooling themselves |
maclatunji:Another Yoruba man who is fighting to do 'one Nigeria' with Igbos. |
graphiti:They spent 5 Months in jail for a cause they believe in. Tell me what cause you have ever spent a a day jail for? You think it' is to shout 'one Nigeria' because Lord Lugard asked you to do so? You think freedom fighting is a joke? It is easy for anyone to accept 'one Nigeria' and keep their freedom. The real heroes are these people who have expressed their right to self determination and suffered jail time and percecution for it. It is easy to accept the name that Lord Lugard came from Europe to bastardise us all with, but it is hard to reject that name and freely choose another one. Get a life man, freedom is for men not boys. |
Zico5:This long letter of yours is what you should be writting to Lord Lugard who made you a Nigerian and not to IPOB |
Umu Chukwu goziri agozi! |
Galant Heroes who suffered Jail time for believing in freedom! I salute you all! Not everyone can do it. There are many Nigerians who cannot withstand even 1 week in Jail for the sake of Nigeria. I commend you guys for all your sacrifice! Aluta continua! |
One big problem with the so called Niger-Delta or South-South (whatever that means) is that nobody really can paint an accurate description of it. What is really 'Niger-Delta'? I grew up thinking that it was exclusively an Ijaw thing. Then the text books said it was any community which falls within the Tributuaries of Southern Nigeria such as Rivers,Imo, Abia and Delta States. Then they said that the Niger-Delta is the Oil producing areas of Southern Nigeria such as Delta, Rivers, Anambra, Imo etc. then they came again and said it is the non Yoruba/ Igbo areas of Southern Nigeria but frequently include Igbos, Igboids and Igbo speaking such as Obigbo/Oyigbo, Ahoada, Ikwere,Asa, Igbanke and Anioma in it. So what exactly is 'Niger-Delta'? Another thing is where do the Efik/Ibibio nation fit into all this? There are some of them who have touted a so called "Oyono Region" for themselves to include Ibibio,Oron,Efik, Annang and Eket ethnic nationalities. It is unfortunate but people use this "Niger-Delta" slogan but cannot concisely tell anyone who and who belongs to it and who doesn't |
Hmmmmmm........... I hope this meat is not finding its way down to the east! I remember someone telling me in Benin City that it is called 'kete-kete' |
Yorubas are the only zone in Southern Nigeria that have never flexed any military muscle in Nigeria from independence to date. That's why the Northern oligarchy could rule Nigeria comfortably from Lagos for 30 years until they tranfared the Capital to Abuja. I think everyone knows about the docility of Yorubas towards military confrontation and that's why anyone from Niger-Delta militants to Northerners can go down there and cause mayhem with no repercussions. Luckily for Yorubas, we Igbos are more civil to join the bandwagon. |
mesoprogress:Not all of them denied. That's why a referendum is very important to separate the weat from the chaff. |
First time Oil is drilled outside the Niger Delta? So Orient Oil Anambra, Shell Abia and Agip Imo are what? Toy factories? |
Ciscogod:How will you get true federalism in Nigeria? You need 2 thirds to pass a bill in the NASS on true federalism. The core North are totally against it and they have the largest voting block in Nigeria. Where will the 2 thirds come from? Even if all the southern reps at the NASS voted for true federalism, they won't get even up half the votes needed to push it through. As far as Nigeria is concerned, true federalism is a dead issue. |
cjrane:He had to put himself into the dullards hands. That is what moved the Biafran movement from Radio and Internet struggle to action. The world has seen the millions that came out worldwide and waving the Biafran flag in solidarity for freedom. All global Tv networks carried it. Now, there is no Nigerian that can say "Nigeria is a United happy nation". Kanu has taken the Biafran struggle to next level and exposed Nigeria as a mere "fiefdom" where opportunist want an unworkable union to keep going. All we now need is for Kanu released for him (or someone like him) to take the Biafra struggle to the final level by using peaceful Means such protests, civil disobedience, rallies to compel the Nigerian Government to hold a referendum in the SS/SE area (excluding Edo but not Igbanke) to determine who wants to stay or go. Kanu is a born freedom fighter |
