The cleric had courted the governor’s venom by urging him to show more decorum in his public utterances.

The altercation took place during a prayer conference and award ceremony organised by the Southwest branch of the Ansar-ud-Deen Muslim Society of Nigeria between March 25 and 28.

On Saturday, Fayose was in attendance at the event, which had as highlights prayers for the country and the honouring of deserving Muslims with awards, when the outspoken preacher offered his advice. 

Those at the event said the preacher told Fayose that as the Number One citizen of the state, he needs to be more cautious in his public utterances.

The unsolicited advice apparently did not sit well with the governor, they said, as he responded with abusive words at the preacher, who attempted to reply him but was restrained by some of the elders in attendance.  His microphone was disabled.  

The elders also appealed to the governor to leave the venue, having already performed his role, but he bluntly refused, an action that led to a three-hour disruption of the programme.

The governor subsequently left the event, which ended on Monday morning. Attempts to interview the cleric, who was present until Sunday, proved abortive.

Mr. Lere Olayinka, Special Assistant to Fayose on New Media, expressed the view that the cleric deserved the insults the governor drenched him in.

I laugh when some mischievous folks deliberately misinterpret ccb Act by saying the accused must be invited to explain discrepancies in his/her asset declaration. If you fall for this, then you agree cct is virtually redundant, because no one will ever be charged before it. Going by the warped thinking of corruption-supporters, Saraki should have been invited by ccb to change the false information he supplied in his asset declaration form. Is that not like ccb saying we have discovered you committed the offence of false declaration, but not to worry you can come and make changes on the form or redeclare so that you can avoid being prosecuted? The ruling by cct is in order: the trial will continue and Saraki can put up whatever defences available, including the argument that ccb ought to have invited him first to change the falsehood he perpetrated in his declaration form.

I personally dont want to take up issues with you on this,especially when am not holding brief for Saraki.A section of the law guiding CCB demands the accused to make a statement regarding his declaration and to be put in writing and this was subverted just in bid to remove Saraki from the exalted position which he occupies.Simply because PMB and Tnubu are nt comfortable with the Senate being independent of the executive.
The hypocritical nature of APC supporters is so irritating that people are now justifying illegalities just to have their way.The same people who condemned the PDP government,accused them of victimizing Tinubu because he was in an oppositn party when he had similar case.
The then government allowed the rule of law to take place and the case against Tinubu was squashed on technical grounds.Only for the APC/CCB prosecuting team to rise up now and say that Tinubu's judgement then was giving in error.
If Nigeria must move forward then we must eschew double standard and always stand by the truth.
