sillysassysally: This is a very flawed reasoning.
Warren Buffett once said that as an investor, it is wise to be “Fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful.”
The market is going to go quiet soon - when the earnings season is over and when there are no bullish triggers to propel stocks higher. It'll be a very good time to take position in stocks that would likely report solid Q3 numbers. You can't keep waiting for "one big rally" somewhere.
Looking on to Tbills, yields are around 10% and the expectation is that election risks would pressure rates even higher so if you want to lock in something long now, you'd be biting yourself. Please remember that it can be disastrous to have a rational investment policy in an irrational NSE. The advice is not to leave the market altogether but to stay by the sidelines and watch. Whatever stock you want to buy now, you can get it for cheaper by the end of the year. The fear will persist until the elections next year. Some people stayed out of this market for years until January this year. Only for them to come and put a lot of money and begin long suffering. Avoidance of losses is an important component of success here in NSE. I've learnt my lesson. |

samguru: the only precious advice I have for NSEMPA family is to take a break from stock market now and lock your fund up in mutual funds and treasury bills. The worst is yet to happen in the market, the news that CBN may increase MPR is for real couple with political tension in the country.
These two factors will prolong bearish period, so relax and save your money for better opportunities. Gbam. Apart from short-term trading opportunities, take your money away and come back later maybe by January. |

yok: RE: MSCI NOT UPDATING THEIR WEBSITE TO SHOW LATEST MOVEMENT IN PORTFOLIO ?
We should know that MSCI- Nigeria is operated by a reputable organisation. Whatever data they have on their website can be relied upon.
They are mandated to publish their holdings/movement of their portfolio, first for the benefit of their investors (most of whom are other funds/Institutions) and then for the general public. They cannot play games with the update of their data, for which many other websites like morning star are equally interested. The only exception is the fact that they can delay the reporting technically in some instances where that are making some strategic buying/selling which they do not want to disclose immediately for strategic reasons, but they do it within the ambit of the law (for this investors are not worried as the information still get updated as soon as possible), for example assume they do a cross deal just after the exchange closed, this can only be displayed the following day??
Again, on weekends, Friday's transactions will not be updated until early Sunday morning. Equally if you are picking up the information from Morning star or other websites, due to time differences around the globe for those website, what we have already seen this morning, will be updated about 2pm or the time that the American stock exchange opens.
Therefore, I have no fear in what I pick up from MSCI website, the information is to totally reliable and looking at the caliber of Investors (Institutions worldwide), using the data there is no need for any doubt. If the date is wrong, I am sure Vanguard, Morning Star, ETFB, Bloomberg etc would pick up on this.
So in conclusion depending on where you get your information from and how that website updates their date, it is possible you can get the information quite late in some instances. But for whatever, I comment on, the date is the current on as displayed on MSCI-Nigeria fund website directly (you are free to check this yourself)-morning star website is still showing Friday's movement, but later today or tomorrow morning you will see the movement I indicated now displayed- http://portfolios.morningstar.com/fund/holdings?t=NGE®ion=usa&culture=en-US.
Thanks.
Caution: This is for information purpose only. Data used are assumed to be correct. However, you may want to verify the data from an appropriate source. You're on point. Just checked. Please keep it coming every morning. |

My belief that there'll be a massive bear from now till year end is getting reinforced.
Foreign investors are gradually exiting more and more.
You won't blame when the US economy is growing by 4% and Nigeria with all its uncertainties is managing a 2% growth thanks to poor management of the economy. Yields are going higher in the US thereby moving capital from the most uncertain markets like Nigeria to the US.
Election blues are worsening the situation. |

Contemporarily speaking, the term carpetbagger refers to roving financial opportunists, often of modest means, who spot investment opportunities and aim to benefit from a set of circumstances to which they are not ordinarily entitled. |

Sell your stocks and repurchase by March-April next year. Period.
Don't hold onto things that are declining. The fears about the election are going to be overblown. Good stocks will decline.
Sell now and buy just before elections. The market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent.
The FPIs are gradually unwinding their positions. They have to do so gradually of course because of their big holdings. Very soon the you'll see the impact of their actions on the exchange rate.
Don't be a bagholder. Don't hold the bag for them.
Instead strive to be a carpet bagger.
For those that'll survive the upcoming carnage with their liver and capital, elections will be peacefuĺ....Naira will be devalued ( free float), fuel subsidy will be removed...All these will point to a 2019/2020 bull. |

DawatNama: I lived in SW for 7 years and I speak the language small, Well I know many people will dispute this not out of ignorance but petty tribal supremacy but the poser I have for this category of people is this Stop at Ikeja, Oshodi, Mile2, Mie12, Balogun, Alaba, Agege etc check the number of yoruba women doing businesses there and number of men. Now apart from those youths chasing yellow buses and those collecting levy for trading and hawking you can't pinpoint a single yourba male youth shop anywhere. Yoruba uneducated males may not be good in raw business of buying and selling especially the uneducated ones. However the educated males are seriously making up for that. Education opens your eyes to do some businesses in a special way. They are pulling their weight in the banking sector which finances businesses. Please no derogatory comments. Every tribe has its flaws. |
