all USA state have army, they call them state national guard.

even other state like oyo state and others can have inland anti-terrorist guards. to protect their state.
For now, they're operating under LASWA with assistance from the Nigerian police. The state is providing patrol boats, fire boats and sustained funding.

Must be sad that your looting and stealing elected and appointed brothers in the delta don't know anything about patrolling and protecting your messed up waterways and the good people of the delta.  Showing face and throwing tantrums every time you hear Lagos obviously magnifying your sorryness and and the depth of your sufferings at the hands of your clueless no job duties understanding, lazy, and crooked kinsmen.

I could not have agreed with you more. However, SWAT and likes are used for more of counter-terrorism engagements than intelligence, -reactive enforcement.

Lagos needs a team that can gather its own intelligence and execute its own offensive actions in combating
this menace (armed-robbery) that has plagued Lagos and other metropolis for far too long.  A  proactive enforcement unit sort of.

BTW, how can  Fashola go about procuring a police unit from the Fed. without tripping the constitution?
You and the poster you quoted made great points. Unfortunately, it's next to impossible for lagos/any state to have a viable and independent law enforcement units because the state police command answers to his/her IG of police in abuja (politically appointed IG by a different and antagonistic political party), not the state government.

Beyond helping with equipments, funds and quality of life upgrade, he really can not do much.

We are so different in Nigeria.
We always do the last things first and the first things last.
Go to the west and ask them to pay tax without providing basic facilities to make life worth living,
Govt invest in infastructure and the people pay tax to maintain the investment. That can not be said of Nigeria, all of a sudden we have started copying the west upside down same thing we did in copying democracy, we copy it upside down now we cant hold a credible election.

Fashola should invest in solar to provide electricity for Lagosian and ensure that police and military are held accountable for their bad deeds. The cameras he installed in Lagos should not only be used for criminals but should be beamed on corrupt police officers. He should press forward for state police and clean of lasma, cos lasma is an example why state police could be bad for the state. Once these are done, he need to provide the job for people to pay their taxes u cant tax people when they dont have a jobs, STUPID! where did they get their education fromhuh, infact by providing your citizens with jobs you are doing the govt more good than the citizens, cos' thro' their taxes they will make govt. richer, OLODO RABATA!

This is an example of why people who copy at exams still fail because they never ready at all, copying only helps if you study alittle, Fashola should study the system in the west completely and not just copy tax policies, otherwise despite his efforts he will go down as a failed gov. Remember Nigerian are difficult to please and he can only fool those that are at home, those of us who knw how d system works over here cant be blind folded.

Yeye man because he provided BRT buses he thinks he has landed??, there are people better than him with better ideas, If dis guy is gonna start throwing taxes on people without jobs or for riding a car, he should prepare leave that place come 2011. You can throw akara at us while you keep the cakes made from seasoned chocolate for yourself.

The money they intend to use for so called atlantic city should have been used to create an electricity & an auto manufacturing industry in the state! which would employ the whole jobless youths and make lagos state richer than Nigeria.

Dem no know now, where dem wan pass when oil don blind dem finish. You dey create mega city for people wen no get light or education to maintain the city, or wen no go fit work there dem go finish now carry oyinbo come work there just as oyinbo full Niger delta dey work for oil installation while Niger-delta people sitdon dey consume the hazardeous gas wen dey comot from there. Where the west dey train their citizens to take on complex jobs, Nigeria go say him citizens no dey trainable.
This post is riddled with so much ignorance and share cluelessness.

While this is not a bad move, I would be happier if Fashola focused his effort on the safety of the people of Lagos.
He should find a way to establish anti-armed robbery squad for Lagos State without flouting any federal law; mind you, not necessarily
his own police which I think is a bad idea from the get go.
Nevertheless,  kudos to him.
I see what you're saying, this safety effort is to protect lagosians and the state's waterways.

Tho', more is needed, I strongly believe he's trying his best with what's at his disposal. He's basically paying and equipping the Nigerian police in his state. Even, crime is down in Lagos state.

Fashola Mounts Anti-Crime Patrol On Waterways
Lagos Okays Maritime Anti-Terrorist Guards
By Gboyega Akinsanmi, 11.02.2009

Lagos State government has said it has set up a 15-man maritime anti-terrorist guard to patrol all navigational routes, waterways and territorial waters across the state against the activities of sea robbers and terrorist groups.

The state Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, had provided two patrol boats, one fire boat, one search and rescue boats, and employment of maritime security operatives to monitor safety on all Lagos jetties.

The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Opeyemi Bamidele made this known weekend, after a meeting with the management of the Lagos State Waterway Authority (LASWA) at the State Secretariat, Ikeja.

He also pointed out that the state government “is prepared to license more big ferry operators in order to give people better choice on the 21 navigational routes in the state and to technically phase out local boats”.

Bamidele added that the Fashola administration has been providing required infrastructure and security to promote more investment opportunities in the waterways to complement road transportation in the state.

The Commissioner said safety “is a dominant factor in water transportation. LASWA has met with stakeholders in water transportation in the state with a view to ensuring safety. The agency has made the wearing life jackets compulsory for passengers of ferries and local boats.

The videos, I want to know what real Lagosians think, as opposed to members of the cabinet. I watch a lot of the EoL videos and they never really present any opposing view. Everyone seems to forever sing the praises of the Governor. I do enjoy the vids though, they bring me little glimpses of home that I would not see otherwise.
Are we talking about the same video?

The video mentioned Fashola just once and it wasn't a praise. They interviewed 2 members of his cabinet and they didn't say anything about Fashola.

They interviewed @ least 5 real lagosians and showed a clip containing 3 real lagosians dramatizing the need for action against climate change.

Lagos State Begins Production Of Transformers For Power Distribution

Oct 30, 2009 - In fulfillment of the promise it made early this year, the Lagos State Government has commenced the production of transformers in the State to boost the distribution of power especially in the rural communities.

During the presentation of the State’s 2009 Budget, the State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), hinted that the State Government has gone into joint venture partnership with Elsewedy Cables based in Egypt for the manufacture of Home Made Transformers promising that production would start later in the year.

The Governor was at the Factory site in Badagry recently during a working tour of the Local Government during which he also visited the company and got first hand information about the manufacture of the transformers.

Announcing the commencement of production Friday at a joint press conference at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, the Commissioner for Rural Development Prince Lanre Balogun, said in doing so the State has scored another first in the country in the field of power distribution.

According to the Commissioner who was accompanied by his Information and Strategy counterpart, Barrister Opeyemi Bamidele and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Shola Oworu, by this development, the difficulty of certifying imported transformers will now be a thing of the past.

Balogun said unlike the imported transformers the locally produced transformers are made of copper coil instead of aluminum and are of high standard with dry cell which requires little or no maintenance adding that they will be best suited for the rural communities in the State.

“The Governor took a bold step by inviting and partnering with Egypt-based Elsewedy Company to establish a factory in the state to produce transformers locally as well as train Nigerians to take over in the nearest future”, the Commissioner said.

The Commissioner who said the transformers are to be given free to communities on demand, however, stated that the State Government ceases to exercise any control over the transformers as soon as they are connected to the National Grid by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), adding that the Government is still talking with the Federal Government on the issue.

In her contribution, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Shola Oworu, said the company has already delivered 15 transformers to the Ministry of Rural Development, adding that the company will produce no less than 100 transformers by the end of this year.

The Special Adviser said the target is that the company will produce 100 transformers per month from next year adding that the target is expected to increase as the demands get higher.

On the level of commitment by the State Government in the venture, Mrs. Oworu explained that the contribution of the State is only in terms of land on which the factory is situated adding that the holding is slightly above five percent.

“It is a joint venture between the State Government and Elsewedy Cables of Egypt. But we are committed to provide the land and we have about 5 per cent holding in it”, the Special Adviser said adding that aside the transformers, the factory will also produce meters and poles for traffic light and street names.

She said the creation of employment for Nigerians within the factory and the possibility of handing over to them at the long run has also been taken care of as the Egyptians, who are technical experts, are less than 10 per cent of the work force.

Earlier in his introductory remarks, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy said by venturing into the manufacture of the transformers, the administration has demonstrated its capacity and courage to break new grounds adding, “As an administration we have refused to limit ourselves to only the things we are able to do”.

Also present at the briefing were the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Mr. Segun Ayobolu and his Rural Development counterpart, Hon. Paul Kalejaiye.

News men were later led to the Ministry of Rural Development premises where they inspected some samples of the Home Made Transformers.

PoliticsA Nigerian Stalking Ryan Seacrest? Why? by babapupa(op): 2:04am On Oct 31, 2009
https://www.dlisted.com/files/seacreststalker1.jpg

This story is only getting more bizarre as time goes on. The first stalkerish run in occurred when Uzomah was arrested after he allegedly tried to get into a car with Seacrest as he left an event at Children’s Hospital of Orange County. When security stepped in, a fight broke out. One of Seacrest’s security people was nearly choked out before they were able to subdue Uzomah.

The man was taken in for “suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon or force likely to cause great bodily injury.” Officers found a switchblade on him at the time of his arrest.

In that instance, Seacrest was able to drive away before Uzomah got to him. He eventually pleaded guilty to three misdemeanors, and was put on probation and forbidden to come near the TV / radio personality.

So much for following the terms of your probation! TMZ now reports that the same man may have entered the E! building in LA today looking for Ryan. Luckily security knew about the man and alerted authorities. Now we’re learning that the man has in fact been arrested by LAPD, and was taken away in the back of a police car (see video below).

It doesn’t sound like probation is going to cut it for this guy. For whatever reason, he seems hell-bent on getting to his victim. I’d say he needs a psych-evaluation too, eh?

What do you think, is Chidi Uzomah Ryan Seacrest’s biggest fan or a dangerous stalker? Give us your thoughts below.

Also, check out photos and video related to the incident below.
