Kwara Is More Of Northern State Than Kano, Bauchi, Katsina ~ Buba Galadima

Alhaji Buba Galadima, a former spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council on Saturday said no northern states in Nigeria can lay claim of being a core Northern state in Nigeria except Kwara and Sokoto.

According to him, the people of Kwara are descendants of Abdullahi Dan Fodio, the Emir of Gwandu who was also the brother of Sheikh Usman Dan Fodio.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Galadima said Kwara state is a more Northern state than the likes of Katsina, Borno, Bauchi, Kaduna and others.

Reacting to the criticism that has trailed the appointment of Prof. Ibrahim Agboola Gambari as the new Chief of Staff to the President, Galadima said it is erroneous for some people to claim that the position was not given to a core Northern state.

While arguing that the President can pick his Chief of Staff from any part of the country, he however said no state is more northern in Nigeria than Kwara except Sokoto.

“Which one is core North and which one is core North? That is their imagination. Kwara is more North than every Northern states except Sokoto. Kwara people are disciples of Shehu Dan Fodio, they were the direct descendants of Abdullahi Dan Fodio, Emir of Gwandu who was the junior brother to Usman Dan Fodio”

“Many people don’t understand this politics and they better learn quickly. If there is any place called North, it is Sokoto Gwandu and Kwara Ilorin”.

“Kwara is more of a northern state than Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi. Like I said Kwara people are direct descendants of Uthman Dan Fodio but that is not the issue”.

“The Chief of Staff can come from anywhere or a place. He can come from Yenagoa or Iseyin. He doesn’t have to be from a particular zone”.

�NCDC OFFICIALS FLEE KOGI STATE TO AVOID BEING TESTED FOR COVID-19

It was drama today at the Kogi State Government House as officials of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control sent to ascertain the COVID-19 status of the state fled to avoid being subjected to COVID-19 test.
It would be recalled that Kogi is one of the two states that is yet to record a single COVID-19 case in the Federation.
The officials of the NCDC said they were sent to the State to assist the state in responding to the challenges posed by the pandemic.

On receiving them, the State Governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello thanked the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari and the Presidential Task Force for rising to the occasion. He said the world must unite to defeat the virus.
The Governor reeled out the measures adopted by the State to flatten the curve on the spread of the virus in the State. He said the country must move out of the pandemic and provide structures for economic recovery.
He also disclosed that he has decided to give full insurance to frontline health workers and also increase their hazard allowance from 30, 000 naira to 50,000 naira daily to further encourage them to put in their best.
Alh Yahaya Bello however said the state has resolved to comply with the protocols of the NCDC by putting the officials in quarantine for fourteen days and take their samples to ensure they are COVID-19 free. He predicated his decision on the fact that they came from an infested area.
The Officials however refused to be tested for COVID-19 and returned to Abuja.
Reason behind the NCDC Officials fear of being tested has raised concerns for the Government of Kogi State.
The State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Kingsley Fanwo told newsmen that NCDC should come hard on its Officials for violating its rules.
“Today, the Governor showed the statesmanship in him once again by appreciating the support of the NCDC and defending the health interests of his people.
“NCDC quarantined the Chinese professionals that came to give them technical support and also took their samples for test. It is a normal practice and protocol set by NCDC.
“So NCDC will have a lot to explain as to why its officials refused to test for COVID-19. How can we be sure of their status? What are their fears? Why did NCDC send people who are afraid of test to our State? What was their intention?
“The officials that came have done an integrity blow to the works of the NCDC. Is there something they are hiding? It is time NCDC opened up and apologize to the good people of Kogi State.
“How will they encourage people to go for test when it’s own officials are afraid of test? This is sad”.
Efforts to reach NCDC has proven abortive.

Two police officers, who were not in uniform took him from his residence. He is currently detained at the Gbabasawa police station in Kaduna. According to local sources, his arrest could be in connection with a charge of blasphemy. A group of lawyers has petitioned the Kano state command to prosecute Mubarak for insulting Prophet Muhammad on his Facebook page. One S. S. Umar signed the petition. And this is how one Yusuf Jnr (@MrZage) commented on the petition on his tweeter account: “Some group of lawyers finally write a petition against that animal Mubarak Bala”. He described Mubarak as ‘an animal’.Besides, there is also an online petition on change.org. Halima Sa’adiya Umar started the petition asking Facebook to close down the account of Mubarak Bala.
All of us at the Humanist Association of Nigeria are deeply worried by the arrest and detention of our president, Mubarak Bala. Mubarak Bala will likely be handed over to the Kano state police command, that will prosecute him for blasphemy, a crime that caries a death sentence under sharia law. We urge the Inspector General of Police, the governor of Kaduna, Mallam Elrufai to ensure his immediate release.
