vowiski: What gap are we talking about here?He doesn't know what he is talking about. |
vowiski: Well, that's part of my work, I'm pretty sure you are not also aware Microsoft gave $1billion to Nokia in 2011 to exclusively use the Windows Phone OS on its smartphones. What are you talking about? You say the Nokia purchase was accelerated by Microsoft. What evidence supports this claim. And no, entering into an exclusivity deal is not part of a buy out unless that is what you are insinuating and thats just cold vapour. On the link you posted; I actually am in support of Nokia not going the android path prior to adopting WP, I believe they would have struggled greatly to differentiate themselves in that already crowded space. Android would not have guaranteed success for Nokia besides consumers are better served with more mobile operating systems instead of just choosing between iOS and Android. |
mencade5: lets discuss. What is this false flag?Let him humor us. ![]() |
LordReed: I'll do a straight from 100% to 10% test tomorrow.Done the test yet? |
^ The acquisition deal was not accelerated. Where did you get that from? |
I posted this comment in the other thread with a similar heading: Yay! Now Nokia under Microsoft can focus completely on Windows Phone OS, dabbling into Android was a drunken idea when they had their own solid platform to build and support. |
GodMode: No matter what u won't get the true info.Says who? If we wait for the facts to come in without embellishing them (not to mention manufacturing them where none exists) a much more clearer picture will present itself BUT oh no, this is Nairaland where every Adamu and his dog is an expert in international relations so we all rush to give our own version of events. |
dragan: Ok heres the link https://twitter.com/cnnbrk , http://www.thestar.com.my/News/World/2014/07/18/Air-France-decides-to-avoid-east-Ukrainian-air-space/ .Lol. I see that you edited this post and put up the correct link. Good. No right thinking person will depend on the contents of this thread for a proper understanding of the news. Right now it is full with too many wild conjectures, and unestablished versions of the plane crash. |
As usual on Nairaland, when a story is developing and the facts are not yet clear all kinds of wild theories start springing up out of the woodwork. People here really get kicks from spewing all kinds conjectures and half truths. See how this thread is 5 pages long with unconfirmed reports, embellished facts and pure but morbid fantasy. |
dragan: Umm because its the flight path that all planes from Asia to Europe useWhere in the link you posted does it say France orders its airlines to avoid Ukrainian airspace? |
Yay! Now Nokia under Microsoft can focus completely on Windows Phone OS, dabbling into Android was a drunken idea when they had their own solid platform to build and support. |
Fulaman198: If you work for a good company when you get out of university, you can get discounts on their products.Lol. When I get out of university? That was years ago.Anyways tell me more about getting a discount on Lenovo products |
Fulaman198: Very good, they are very renowned you will love their products.I really love Lenovo's Yoga 11s but the price was ![]() |
LordReed: Pretty standard I guess, I haven't done much testing yet but when I unplugged it overnight while doing some installation I woke up to meet 70% external hard disk was running the installation and wifi was on. I took it to work and used it on battery for about 3 hours when it shutdown by itself so I guesstimate 5 hours with lowered screen brightness and moderate use.Nice. Some reviews I read online complained about the battery life - they put it at approximately 4.5hours. |
It is the hardest thing for some to admit that they are wrong. Good work there Nsonaso for putting in the effort in helping to educate others. |
OP Take consolation in the fact that you are not Lannisters. |
Ymodulus: Name: VIFOCAL C100 Ymodulus: I was explaining the meaning in full and not what the abbrievation or synonyms.Nairaland will not kill us. So the abbreviation of OEM has a different meaning from the words in full? Kai. |
It is highly debatable that file sharing leads to a loss in sales. People who benefit from the status quo maintain that file sharing is theft and a loss of potential income for the content creators but there are growing instances of people who have adapted their business model to take advantage of the internet and are very much in business, successfully too. What is interesting is that it usually the middle men who cry that file sharing is theft. The middle men here are the publishers, distributors or recording houses/labels and what have you, not the artist or content creators themselves... Artists indeed stand to gain more in the long run if they gave out their works for free in the early stages to gain popularity and acclaim then later monetizing it carefully in a way that takes advantage of the www.... I admit I do not have a sure model for this and what worked in one case might not be easily replicated in another but one thing is certain the old business model cannot survive in this digital era, the only way it does now is by holding on to antiquated laws enforcing it with draconian measures. |
@prettyboi1989 Why do you leave readers with the impressions that you have no direct experience with using Win8 and merely recycling the hype that it was a flop? Prior to Win8.1 I didn't have any issues with Win8, certainly nothing in the degree of the heavy adjectives used in hyping what the supposed disappointment Win8 was said to be. I didn't have any issues with the lack of the start button and for your information it's reappearance in 8.1 is certainly different from what it used to be. 8.1 offered more options for customisation of the live tiles, the option to boot directly to desktop on a non touch device and a smattering of other modifications. It is certainly not a backtracking or admission of failure as you would have many believe. What particular issues did you personally have with Win8. Please share them here, not something you may have read on a website somewhere. Remember, you also haven't explained why you say it's a disgusting OS. |
runzlord: I noticed something. thats it only shallow minds and computer "managers" that feel windows 8 is bad. Windows 8 and 8.1 are the best thing that happened to Microsoft. gosh wait lemme just imagine my system running win 7. Tufika nw thats not only disgustin but horrible ![]() C'mon Win7 isn't bad at all, it was a very welcome relief for the disaster that was Vista. It continues to sell well too. Win8 on the other hand is beautiful and easily lends itself to touchbased/tablet systems. I have found that those who slate it are usually 1. Too broke to afford an upgrade 2. Haven't used it for all of 5 minutes and quickly dismiss it as horrible 3. People who believe that it is cool to lash out against MS products because it's a big company. The haters are mainly from any one of the above categories Those with genuine concerns have found 8.1 to address many of their needs but you rarely find them giving to vitriolic reactions like many ignorant folks |
prettyboi1989: Oh pls u wana compare windowz 7 aeros desktop theme 2 dat of windows 8? Wat u sayn, win8 is jst dry n isn't user frendly, m sure u fascinated by win 8 cos its a new os, tot as much, bt if u used xp, vista, win7 b4 win 8 ud av knw d best os.The Samsung exec you mentioned, Jun Dong Soo made those comments over a year ago sometime in march 2013 IIRC. That comment wasn't surprising given Samsung's half hearted commitment to Windows. Meanwhile MS has since announced that Win8 has sold over 200 million licenses so far. Even though that is still behind Win7 sales , 200 million is more than a decent figure for what you call a disgusting OS. Is Jun Dong Soo still complaining? I use Win8.1 and I find it to be fast and beautifully designed and so I have to repeat my question: have you personally used Win8 or the update 8.1 to arrive at the conclusion that it is disgusting? (PS: please type out words properly in English, reading your text-speak is quite difficult ) |
oluwashedy: What's this app all abt and does it wkCortana is not an app, it is a voice assistant like Apple's Siri available to WP8.1 users. |
This is a very dicey issue. Firstly I belong to the school of thought that agree that copyright laws should be remodelled for the 21st century. Right now the laws as they exist make us all criminals because it can be argued that we are all involved in one form violation or the other during the course of a regular day. Much of what is called piracy today is simply file sharing. IMO as long as a file sharing is carried out without any intent of commercialisation then it is fair and legitimate and it shouldn't be criminalised. That is, as along as I don't sell or in some way profit financially from sharing ebooks, music or movies of which I am not the author or publisher I am doing no wrong. It is not theft! The copyright laws are mostly upheld by content creators who for the most part refuse to adapt to the digital era in which we live in. Their business model cannot survive in this era because it was designed in a time when people didn't have the abilities which the internet affords us now. |
How is the battery life? |
This report is misleading. Obviously the work of a blogger trying to put a spin on things - nowhere in the interview was it stated that MS was definitely considering bringing Cortana to iOS or android. sniperwolf: There is nothing new that Cortana can offerYou couldn't be more wrong. Cortana allows you to block calls or texts during times of your choosing; just like a Do-Not-Disturb period. ( This feature isnt directly available on other platforms) In addition to the different types of reminders (time, location) available you can also set people based reminders; you can have Cortana remind you about a friend's upcoming birthday anytime you type the friend's name in a text or email.. Cortana's personality is described by many as fiesty and fun, that's obviously different from polite Siri or no nonsense Google Now. Even though it is still in beta form it can hold its own well in the company of Siri and Google Now so I don't think you should dismiss it entirely. prettyboi1989: microsoft is jst always at d top of dia game, except for ofcourse windows 8 whch seems disgustin on pcWindows 8 is disgusting on PC? Really? Is this a conclusion you arrived at yourself from first hand experience or you are just regurgitating comments from ignorant people? |
Kiggster: Cortana on iOS and android? Good luck with that Microsoft. IMO, cortana sucks. We have Siri for iOS. Robin,Dragon,Google Now,Speaktoit,S-voice etc on Android. Robin is my favorite BTW. y'all should check it out.How does Cortana suck? |
adanduka: VIRAL AssistantYou noticed that too? Lol. Blame our 9ja bloggers for that. |
^ Not people like me I detest android tablets. The lot of them |
^ Let's not derail this thread. Your comment about Win8 being an experimental OS is unfounded and I called you out on it because FUD has never done anyone any good. I'm sure the OP would prefer constructive approaches to solving the problem he has, let's direct the discussion to this instead. |
Problem with hybrids for me though is that you would be hard pressed to find one that comes with cellular broadband. The only one that I know of is the Lenovo Thinkpad 10 and it isn't yet available this side of the market. I really wish manufacturers would include this feature as relying only on wifi (which isn't always available if you are on the go a lot) isn't satisfactory. The alternative would be to log about a mifi/modem or tether it to your phone's network, that's so not cool if you ask me. |
1stola: That is not unusual. window 8 in an experimental os.Oga go and parallel park properly. Experimental OS ke. OP should confirm that he is first connected to the Internet. If possible he should see if he can access the web and Windows store using the same network on another computer... This may very well be a network issue so, let him try this first. If he can get in the store with another computer on that network then we can focus squarely on his Dell. (This is all just basic troubleshooting) |
LordReed: Bluetooth tethering is an option.Really? You can establish an internet connection via Bluetooth tethering? How is this possible? |
