did you use Dubai connect...? how was the experience...was it worth it?. pls confirm the carry on baggage policy, can 1 carry a laptop bag + a small briefcase/box?............some airline allow that flexibility, but arik is notorious for insisting on only 1 carry on bag/laptop bag.
hv u flown united?...how wud u compare united and emirates service/inflight entertainment?.............wud hv preffered united since its a direct flight, but its quite pricey! I would fly Emirates to the states any day but I'll prefer to be by myself or with Lè hubs ( no babies, pregnancy or toddlers). |

My personal opinion is that if everybody does same, there will be nobody to ask these questions here. There are mums and dads that have being part of this thread for about 5years,and still here answering our questions, they are not fools! You know yourselves o guests readers following all steps here to birthing in the US without aknowledgememt to your source of info. I don't know if there's a particular person you're referring to or a personal experience but generalising, you do know a lot of people have been birthing in the US long before this thread was created and some are still birthing without knowing of the existence of this thread. So not everyone who has gone to give birth in the US came to Nairaland. |

girlloom: I totally agree with you, I am not proud of what I did and I knelt down afterwards to beg my MIL, not once. I was going through a lot and snapped. There is really no excuse for bad behavior. As for the SIL, her behavior towards me started way back before the issue with her mom. I agree with bigfido but I still empathise with you. Its not easy being a new mom with no one in your camp. Like you said there's no excuse for bad behaviour (I love your attitude to correction) Just follow bigfido's advise to the letter. It's almost over, just hang in there. |

girlloom: My dear, coming here was a massive mistake. I am 30 and this lady is 34, I knew I had entered one chance when she told me to attach Aunty to her name and uncle to her husband. Few weeks after I arrived here, I had a chat with my husband on bbm that I was being treated like a maid, this lady went through my phone while I was sleeping, read the chat and got upset. My husband made me apologize to her for invading my own privacy. Despite the fact my pregnancy was high risk, this lady turned me into a semi maid. Things I haven't done in my own house I have done here. She once instructed me to warm food for her 2 year old, my son started crying and I went to attend to him, she asked about the food and I told her my son was crying, her response was 'so you left my son's food because he was crying, let him cry now' Her son comes back with all sorts of sickness from daycare, she gets upset when I try to protect my child. Now my son is ill, caught a bad cold, thanks to her son sneezing on his face severally. I have had sleepless nights in the past 2 days and will have to take him in tomorrow and pay as we have no insurance. Back to what happened today, she said I was ungrateful because I asked why they opened my son's envelope...imagine? My husband delayed in sending money for his visa and that's the only reason I am still here. Her husband was able to pacify her to let me stay saying what would people say back home. Let me also add that she keeps saying she and her brother were very close before he met me and I want to change him. I plan to change my ticket to the earliest date possible and I am still going to call the IRS. Apologies for my uncoordinated rant, I am upset that I am in this kind of situation. Left my spacious house to come and chop insult in this cabin. Hi girlloom, I am very upset on your behalf and I guess all pretense will be thrown out now that you have confronted them. I advise you to be very careful. Report the case to the ssn office (please stick to the story of how the ssn came delivered without envelop and ask how you can protect your son from ID theft. Also, make known you don't live in the states and will not be filing him in any taxes so there's a red flag if anyone files for him. Thank the officer that helped you and leave). When you get to Nigeria, casually tell your hubby so he can relay the message to them ( so if they never file, them no go near there.) Meanwhile, that's the end o as you won't be able to stay in that house again. Now read this part carefully; you have just given birth to a child via CS, and you are not happy where you're staying and to cap it up yo have to take care of a toddler too. Postpartum depression is real. You need to take things easy and don't let anyone put you under undue stress. May God grant you the wisdom to handle all this mess. |

Ok.
She needs to find out first if he has used it and a way to block it.
I still maintain my point against reporting him to the authority and possibly getting a criminal record because family is involved here I don't think he has used it yet ( I heard a child needs to be 6months, I stand to be corrected) hence she can just report the state at which she received the mail. And ask if she can protect it againSt being used fraudulently. Well said @ye2ndearisto. |

vcole: @TheLeakyTribe I don't know if you have left or not. Please if you have not, kindly make sure you make a police report alongside your husband. If you have, then your husband can make it. If you have any receipt of the purchase, pls hold that. If you do not, get the bdc to issue you one. Then get your bank statement showing the naira transaction. I'm sure you can get that online. There is a number that is supposed to be like a police customer care. I'm not sure who they are but I do know that you can call them after you have made a police report and give details of your case including the area command and they will follow up your case. If you contact the mobile networks, they can locate her phone as well as last dialed numbers and trace her. A relative went through this a few months ago and USD was stolen by her maid and her sisters maid. Both colluded as they were aware that my relative and her sister were embarking on a business trip and had changed quite a large sum. To cut a long story short, they were apprehended by the police after a few days and the funds were recovered. Even her agent can be made to produce her relatives or friends. Pls don't let this go just yet, pursue it to a logical conclusion ASAP. Prompt report and persistent "pressing" of the NPF and you will get results.
@girlloom do NOT look at this through the eyes of "he is my relative" The advise to thread carefully is to thread carefully for yourself and your LO and not to put another person's interest first before yours. You and your LO are your priority one. If at any point in the future he is caught on any tax fraud, his entire tax history will be audited and you could be taken as an accomplice. Silence after all means consent. I can only advise you on what I would do if this happened to me. I would call the IRS and I would visit my local social security office. I would tell them that I got my LO's social security number a few days ago and it was already opened and I would like to know if this is a cause for concern especially as regards identity theft. They would advise on the next step. If you want to play safe, you can be silent on the happenings that led to you discovering that it was open. You can say that you were not home when it was delivered and that by the time you saw it, it was already open. However I must state here that if your host did open it, he invaded your privacy. If he did claim taxes for your LO without your consent then he commited a crime. It's that simple. Relative or not. I love this advise. I would just report the state which the ssn came (opened and exposed) and feign ignorance. I hope they give you a pin or so that way no one can claim without the pin. Karma will surely do the rest. Some of us didn't have that opportunity. Thieving people. They could have said they couldn't accommodate you instead of stealing from your son. |

For Houston at least fort bend county you do have to tick on a column when filling the Bc if you want it, no going to Ssn office for anything
Nerf and Modath are you sure the thing don't come and they hid it from you ...just joking
Vcole I hear you sis
Enizo Mehn no idea what money they are going to collect o, maybe something else cuz they don't need to 'go' to 'collect it' I had my last in Chicago o. I filled it when filling the BC form ( I just don't remember if it was the same form or different forms) I'm also thinking what you're thinking and I'm not kidding. If I remember correctly BC for and SSN form usually go hand in hand unless you specifically decline (I'm not even sure you can do that). |

nefertitiram: I just didnt apply. Where there any forms to be filled? I dunno o!
After baby is born, you go to ssn office to get the number, or meet the SSN rep in the hosp. I skipped both.
For passport I put zeros, and it was accepted Nerf I'm confused o. When you're filling the former for BC, the SSN form is also given to you and it usually comes through the mail in a few weeks. You don't have to go to the SSN office for anything o. Did you just decline to sign the SSN form? Anyways, they mailed my daughter's and my nephew sent it to me intact. But I still put zeros on her passport application |

favoredgal: This tax refund thing do we know anyone it has landed into trouble really and honestly?
It's not identity theft, it's not bad debt and its it mortgaging your children's future off and all the names bring bantered around - depending on the relative in question.
A lot of people have been doing it for donkey years and the world haven't come crashing - this is from personal experience of people close to me, a lot of these kids are now adults and have moved to the USA now for school and work
I'm not saying do it because It's morally wrong and in a way fraud but let's stop painting a gory picture
Pls before anyone quotes me to preach read the paragraph above again. Thanks The bolded is enough. While, I understand what you may be saying with depends on who its with et al, eitherway it's tax fraud end of. |

Nogen: House please help me here. Bro in law is asking me to scan and send the children's birth certificates and Social Security numbers for yearly tax refund. I'm not interested and have nicely turned it down.
The man is very upset . I need to show my husband the many disadvantages as possible so he can show his brother who is now making a fuss about the whole thing now.
Please list them out for me. I told him , the SSN could go into the wrong hands who may take loans and leave debts for my innocent children in the future to pay. Give me others biko. Thanks in advance. Sis I've fallen into this trap before. Please respectfully decline. Matter of fact I know someone battling with her sister in law over this issue but she's not budging. The SSN is very important, it's even more important than your name in my opinion. You can change your name but you can't change your SSN. ajujuju: Risks Identity theft (kids) Bad debt (kids) Jail time if caught defrauding d system (B-i-l) US ban..if found to hav willfully participated (Parents) Saying NO is gonna b hard. Bcz family alwys takes us for granted....But please think abt d kids. anonymousmum: He will be upset I am sure. Na so. In short he wants to file his tax returns as though he is supporting your kids financially, and as such, he will pay lower taxes. Also, some people sell SSN information for all sorts of purposes. There is a reason why SSN numbers are confidential. Even the SSN card says that you should not carry it around on your person. Think of it like a credit card. Please google tax fraud using false dependants, download and print all the information you find online about tax fraud. Paint the picture of toying with your precious kids future (which is true anyway) and mortgaging their future - please ensure you paint as gory a picture as possible. Handle it as diplomatically as possible but DO NOT BUDGE please!! |

Future readers that want to go and have their babies must have saved enough or earn enough to convince the VO they are capable of settling their bills. It's not by knowing another's salary. Even if they know, would they go to the embassy and say that's what they earn or will they change jobs/quickly get promoted etc. I don't understand this POV my sis. shimk: hello peeps
quick question.
For smone who didnt pay all her bills n is on a plan of monthly payment, can she still go renew her visa and travel to d us?
pls urgent response as my cousin needs to renew her visa urgently. In my opinion, it depends on a few things. Did she inform the embassy when going to give birth? She might or might not be called for interview. When does the payment plan end? Does she have evidence if called to the embassy. If I were her I'll probably wait till I've paid all but then it's a confidence thing. A friend of mine renewed and is doing payment plan and she wasn't called for an interview. I know people that paid all and were still called. There's no hard or fast rule to these things . It's a 50/50 thing. She should make sure she has evidence and can defend her reasons. Good luck |
