How many farmers have strong link to the end user (processors)?

Most dealers of paddy rice hoard it and sell for crazy prices like 11k5. Have you factored in the cost of transportation? Take an average of #2000 as the processing cost, how much will it cost together?

The earlier they cut the long chain of the market, the better for the populace.

1) Farmer
2) Paddy rice dealers
3) Marketers of these dealers
4)Rice Mill processor
5) Processed rice dealers
6) Wholesalers
7) Retailers

It is conventional practice that the price of inputs informs the market price. What is the government doing to make paddy rice to processors available at #8000? Mind you, the long chain in this industry is another means of employment only that our people are greedy.

Has there been effective linkage between farmers and rice processors? Until you bridge that gap, nothing is going to work out. For a fact, most Nigerians are greedy. We take advantage of situations.

In fact, what is the government doing to protect and improve the conditions of rice farmers? I know they are trying but a lot has to be done in bringing this price down considering that it is a function of demand and supply.


Most of the productions are in the north while there is a large market in Lagos, have you looked at the cost of transportation?

Recommendations

1) Bring the farmers closer to the rice millers and shorten the long chain

2) Government should provide dedicated transportation for agricultural produce from farms to the buyers and sellers of these produces. Logistics cost is killing business

3) Rice Farmers cost need to be subsidized. Anyway they can help farmers reduce cost

4) Government should be heavily involved in this rice production. You can’t be dictating to a private investor how much to sell. Some people took loans at fairly high cost.

The earlier we realize that one aspect of the economy affects the other the better for us.

Even free economy has some measures whereby govt monitor and regulate prices of goods especially mass produced goods.

Farming is capital intensive. Long term profit but the usual naija way, make all the money at once.

Our reason for making money is so different from that of most people from the rest of the world.
