jason123:It is heartbreaking to witness these "he is my thief" style arguments. It always makes the proponent seem like they are arguing from a prejudiced point of view. If you see corruption anywhere, shoot it down and stop attempting to justify by saying, "oh everybody does it, nutin spoil." ![]() |
@djustice Here is another interesting thread for you https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-774228.96.html People need to be told the truth about how the web of corruption operates. |
I wonder why our pet monkey keeps asking for substantiation when he and his master, Gbawe cannot even give answers to to precise figures and months. Lol! Bros, for your info, Aregbesola lives in Alimosho in Lagos. He spent only two days in Oshun in June and just five in July and refused to budge from Lagos for an extended period up into August; I believe he didn't visit the state at all in April (I could be wrong). |
^ You will find that every attempt to derail this thread by behaving like an area boy will fail. If you like, dig the worst from the gutter, we will still ask the pertinent questions and demand an end to abysmal neglect of duty in Osun and thuggish interference in Lagos. . . .Rewind. . . Which other governor is seeking a 50billion loan to cut grass and catch squirrels? |
^ Bruv, why are you calling my name na? Do you think cutting the Presidential fleet will save 1.2trillion? Do you really have an idea of the jaw-breaking amount 1.2trillion is? Even if all the planes are grounded and the President starts sharing okada's with you, that would hardly make a dent in the sum we are discussing. How do you propose to cut down legislators salaries? You tink say na beans? Those people make the law and have the clout to either set their own salaries or influence the amount. They prefer to milk the country instead, and short of rioting there is nothing anybody can do. So, if you are not prepared to riot and make sacrifices for your rights, its best not ask questions or make suggestions that are ridiculous. If you are prepared to die for your cause, then call me, until then please don't waste my time. |
Mr becomerich, when did you become Uche? |
Social safety nethttp://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/10/fuel-subsidy-finally-government-shows-ourage/ My mind is a bit shaky on this, even though I think the plans are beautiful. I hope we get more detailed info soon. For now, it looks visionary and promising. Other countries have achieved similar, so why can't we? The above plans imply that a central database of citizens would need to be developed. Not a bad thought. |
FG to scrap excess crude account for SWF . Thursday, 06 October 2011 00:00 TUNJI OLAWUNI, ABUJA . . The Federal Government plans to end the operation of the Excess Crude Account, President Goodluck Jonathan has informed the National Assembly. President Jonathan in the 2012-2015 Medium Term Fiscal Framework he sent to the National Assembly on Tuesday, admitted the illegality of the Excess Crude Account and said extra budgetary revenues would now go to the Sovereign Wealth Fund, which the state governors had wanted run side by side the Excess Crude Account. Jonathan said in the letter to both chambers of the National Assembly, that: “The NSWF (National Sovereign Wealth Fund) will manage Nigeria ‘s excess earnings from crude oil. The current administration stated the current Excess Crude Account has no real legal backing, since it was formed under a political arrangement from the previous administration. “In continuation of the adoption of an oil-based fiscal rule, oil benchmark prices significantly below the current market prices, will be adopted for the 2012-2015 period. Revenue in excess of the benchmark price, will continue to be set aside in the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF). “The SWF, which formalizes the ECA, was designed to guarantee savings for future generations, to promote the development of critical infrastructure, thus promoting growth and diversifying the economy and to protect the budget against negative oil price shocks.” Jonathan however explained that in the mid-term framework, government would adopt a gradual slash in recurrent expenditure and concentrate on completing on-going capital projects. In the letter and for year 2012, N2.581 trillion is budgeted as recurrent expenditure while N1.319 trillion will be spent on capital projects. The president explained further to the lawmakers, that recurrent expenditure was pushed up by the new minimum wage including increment in wages of medical personnel across the country, and that of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). He said: “Government will also continue its strategy of fiscal consolidation by which expenditure, particularly on recurrent spending, will be reined in and directed to its most productive and growth-enhancing use while efforts will be intensified to increase revenue… “To correct this bias, government is implementing a four-year capital project plan, commencing in 2012, which will ensure that we exit from the current portfolio of on-going projects. “The reduced size of the 2011 Amended Appropriation Act, relative to the 2010 budget, signals government’s intent to scale down its spending, from the highs reached in recent times, largely due to the fiscal stimulus extended during the peak of the global economic crisis and the recent increase in the wage bill”. “In recent times, the outlay on recurrent spending has outstripped the growth of spending on capital projects. This increase can be attributed largely to the rising wage bill, an outcome of the increase awarded to civil servants, medical personnel, ASUU staff, etc. “The 2012-2015 period, will focus on correcting this structural imbalance in our expenditure profile, thus ensuring that more funds are allocated to critical infrastructure. “The report of the Expenditure Review Committee, which concluded its work in April 2011, will provide a starting point for this key initiative. PPP funding for infrastructure projects will also be pursued aggressively. “The share of recurrent spending in aggregate expenditure, is set to decline from 74.4 percent in 2011 to 72.5 percent, in 2012, while capital expenditure as a share of aggregate spending is set to increase from 25.6 percent to 27.5 percent in 2012.” http://www.businessdayonline.com/NG/index.php/news/76-hot-topic/28212-fg-to-scrap-excess-crude-account-for-swf |
Why would you repost a topic thats already be posted for days and is already on page two? https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-775113.32.html |
Its so sad. There are two men whose vision has driven the PC into every home and made mobile computing all pervasive. They are Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. I wonder what will happen to Apple Inc? |
90% of the responses on this thread pander 100% to emotion and sentiment only. Why would anyone attempt to discuss technical matters from a sentimental viewpoint? The sad truth is that most people have no clue about how the so-called fuel subsidy operates, they are just reacting by instinct and trooping after the bandwagon. First, it's an indiscriminate way to spend valuable resources. The rich, who could pay more for fuel, benefit as much as the poor, who often can't.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3077049.stm Simply put, some of the very same folk who import our fuel at below market price, simply ship it out to neighbouring countries to sell at above market price and leave the country to have to import yet more fuel to fill the shortfall in an ever expanding vicious cycle. The average Nigerian is put to sweat like a jackass for the fuel importing / smuggling industry. These people have also formed themselves into a powerful mafia that ensures that our refineries are always sabotaged. We all complain about the staggering amounts it costs simply to run govt in Nigeria and how little is left for capital expenditure; yet the 1.2trillion spent annually on fuel imports is a quarter of the entire proposed 2012 budget. That money could be put to much better use. 1.2trillion is a great deal of money, I would expect that our arguments here would be on the best ways to police that money to ensure that it doesn't disappear into private pockets as in the past; to that end, we must all endeavour to have more than a cursory understanding of the Sovereign Wealth Fund as an investment engine, value adder and wealth producer, we must also ask diligent questions to probe the exact meaning of the proposed safety nets for the less privileged. Removal of the subsidy, if done right, will actually lead Nigeria to gallop ahead developmentally: A non-inflationary expansionary policy that increases transfers to households would have the least negative effect on poverty. To achieve this goal, government spending of associated savings needs to increase purchasing power and raise production so as not to stimulate inflation. Wasteful projects which do not add much to the country's productive capacity should be avoided.http://www.globalsubsidies.org/en/subsidy-watch/commentary/does-subsidy-removal-hurt-the-poor-the-case-fuel-subsidies-nigeria This is just a time for each of us to look within, banish sentiment and become vigilant of the tiniest detail. Sentiments do not develop a country. |
maasoap:The bolded is well known. What is strange about it, is that is has been hyped as successful govt policy; every state employs people to cut grass as a matter of routine; it is ridiculous that he claims it to be some big policy. So far as well, no state gov has gone so far as to seek a 50billion loan to aid in grass cutting, only Aregbesola has. Its like a joke! Bros, for your info, Aregbesola lives in Alimosho in Lagos. He spent only two days in Oshun in June and just five in July and refused to budge from Lagos for an extended period up into August; I believe he didn't visit the state at all in April (I could be wrong). |
This bridge looks quite funny for 2.5billion. https://vml1.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Falomo-bridge.jpg |
Unfortunately, such things come with development. Any country thats serious about tackling crime in the information age would need to develop capacities to monitor phone networks and the internet. Its the only way to keep a step ahead of modern gangs, dissidents and subversives. |

^ Na wa o! Man de fear! ![]() The damn things must be like tree trunks. |
The official figure for the number of almajiri's in Nigeria has been 9.5million. It is a very frightening number thats higher than the population figures of two thirds of the countries in the World. The truth is even worse when you realise that the figure of 9.5million has been in place since 2006. Without doubt, that figure cannot be static and would have grown with increasing levels of poverty and an increasing population. My unscientific guess is that the true figure lies somewhere between 11 and 20million. ![]() |
lateef4me:My guy, see how these people just came and messed up the thread with all sorts of disconnected issues. Obiagu1: |
ALADE4J2:Exactly! ![]() I don't understand why anybody should be so desperate to the point of lying and presenting forgeries. It is disgusting, but that's from the political party that would have us believe they are "progressives." |
Why is oceanic bank NOT crying foul if the cheque was forged? Do you think they will just sit down and allow anyone to forge their chque without making a court case? Your claim is lame and very daft to think oceanic will just allow SR to forged and display their cheque without taking neccessary actions. Is not everybody that can buy your mooronic spin. keep on making yourself look very stuupid over NL.
The very same reason the Presidency didn't bother with the forged picture below. Every sane person is dismissive of Sahara Reporters and their childish forgeries: http://saharareporters.com/photo/photonews-jonathans-declaration-when-jonathan-women-met-goodluck-men www.nairaland.com/attachments/324341_SaharaReportersFakePicture_jpg69a0b6e4ad1c8831fa731bd73bb022d2 |
Gbawe:Nwannem, Ogini di? --Beaf has been scared into speaking another language --This is a very childish response to a gravely serious issue. The same thuggish theme runs through your posts as through demdem's and Eko Ile's. Why? I really do not believe that is what your party, ACN stands for. Your outburst might appeal to those afflicted with the basest instincts, but the objective ones amongst us can see you are really striving hard to dodge the issue with these weird diversions. Please lets stick to the topic and avoid childish outbursts that result from the rage of being exposed; thank you. Your post above contrasts rather sharply with the feelings expressed on this same page by an Osun state resident. I will leave you to ponder her words: ifffffy:Pretty strong words and very strongly expressed feelings. I believe that your rage was stirred by the post below, because you well know that what you think is secret can be divined by x-raying the contents of the sentences below. They are like the door to a hidden shocker. Its a pirate empire, cut Aregbesola and Tinubu bleeds. Lol! Beaf:Why does Aregbesola, governor of Osun, live in Lagos? Why should Aregbesola be so involved in Lagos politics to the extent that lives have been lost? Fashola is the governor of Lagos state, while Aregbesola was voted as governor of Osun. Lagos is Fashola's turf. I wonder why you spend your time denying things Aregbesola has openly claimed in black and white? Its not very clever. Which other governor is seeking a 50billion loan to cut grass and catch squirrels? Again; Aregbesola is easily the worst of our governors, and by a very long shot too. |
Probably Tinubu. |
Eko Ile:People show interest in me, cos I'm damn smart and they just wanna squash you, cos you're phucking stup!d. Lol! Dude, you are like a bacterial or fungal infection chocking NL. . . dafter than Aluwe's donkey, stup!d as a stone. |
Aregbesola's downfall is going to come from the upcoming Lagos LG elections where he has imposed 35 people to be returned unopposed. Already, there have been near riot situations with loss of life, there have been numerous demonstrations against the impositions and people have been angered to the point of invoking evil spirits at Isolo. Lagos is not even his state, its Fashola's tuff. One thing is clear, Fashola is doing a great job and doesn't need the phucker. Aregbesola's current rude intervention into Lagos politics is not his first either; when Fashola was choosing his commissioners, Aregbesola popped up and imposed his list. Governor of another state? Aregbesola is Tinubu's riot squad against Fashola and he has taken the task to heart so much that his own state is abandoned. Well as far as governance is concerned anyway, because Osun states money is being used for contracts to keep Lagos boys happy and maintain influence for Aregbe. Its a really sad story. |
^ So you want me to condemn without reason? I can't even understand why you are equating the Sovereign Wealth Fund to state govts, they are very different things with no relationship between them. |
^ We might be pleasantly surprised. Remember that the massive reshuffle that brought in Ihejirika was likened to a coup; there's no reason why it can't be done again with boko haram as the reason. |
peckhamboi:Dude, you cannot total GDP (PPP) like that, your post violates the meaning of that index in shocking ways and is absolutely nonsensical. With GDP (PPP) you will need to take an average, or even better, divide by the local population and then the highest figure wins. Even then, it is not a measure of poverty, but of money generated per person in private business and enterprise (in layman's terms). |
koruji:More your issue. You people really irritate others with your foolish bigotry, you don't realise that your behaviour is both dangerous and irresponsible; regardless of if it stems from low self esteem issues or not. Please let us be mature and banish ethnic bigotry and base instincts from our discussions (thats what brought you here). |
Chinedu Nlem:Yet day old babies heads are routinely chopped open in Jos and their corpses burnt. Chinedu Nlem:Yet they pushed for the Presidency and got it. |
DrummaBoy: If we wake up tomoro 2 hear BH killed GEJ in an attack, all this hate on NL can it translate to Genocide?Yes. |
That is why they say "The correction above applies best to NL in a way that you both will understand at quite a profound level. ![]() Even better. . . That is why they say "Somebody inform Eko Ile and Gbawe that are turning the place into a dump. |
Princek12:Thats the big question we've been asking, and the man is even unrepentant enough to say he is never going to change. Its hard to fathom. |
