I respect your opinion.... but isn't this what Op is warning about?.... just grabbing the opportunity to go and when you get there you would make a way?... the same that soooo many have done then ended up trapped abroad...suffering....hoping to return home no matter the situation at home?....women become prostitutes etc?...that was not part of their plan. OP very nice post. But Nigerians in diaspora are not helping matters, these folks flood nairaland and other Nigerian forums painting a picture of their lives as if they all live in Eldorado abroad.

The worst part is that they seem to forget that not everyone actually wants to migrate abroad, some love their lives here no matter how white you try to paint your life abroad. They tend to talk down at some of us back home. Imagine someone opening a thread about recently relocating to US and in almost all his posts he writes about how backward we are here and people applaud him yet all he eats there is Nigerian food.

If it was really Eldorado as these diasporans intend to paint it what are so many of them doing on here and why do they keep returning home? If there is nothing to miss about Nigeria.

I still believe our country will be great, I don't like Buhari's policies and I thank God that he would not be here forever. The best way to live here is to be your own economist and financial strategist, good luck fellow Nigerians

People think the grass is greener abroad than in Nigeria, no doubt about that! But we have forgotten that for a grass to be green, it had to be watered, manured and trimmed consecutively. Take Dubai for Example, in the 1990s, the crowned prince knew the oil with soon extinct, he started building up structures like the one and only, reknown hotel, THE ARABIAN TOWER which they finished in 2000. He turned Dubai from desert to paradise on earth.
We need to change our mentality, have proper orientation and profitable business perspective for Nigeria.
It is true that Our politicians too are milking us dry, but we are the diarymen they are using for the milking!

To bebe2 my advice is that you buy all the materials and have extra 500k to what he quoted.
I don't know why he is quoting 6" for foundation block even you don't use 6" blocks on the first floor.

Bros, I don't what your profession is, but all construction professionals (architects, engineers, etc) know that the QS is the professional who knows about building costs more than others.

Therefore, as a QS of over 10 years experience, I can categorically tell you that when foundations are built to standards & not some quack/caricature ones we sometimes see here on Nairaland & elsewhere, they will surely cost more than a decking anytime any day unless the foundation is just strip foundation..of course we know that only bungalows have strip only foundations & thus no need for decking.

Take a raft foundation for example...you have ground beams, ground floor bed with reinforcement along with massive filling. Compute the costs vis-a-vis just a suspended floor slab/decking with small floor beams...a foundation costs more.

I rest my case.

1. What is available on the website now is labour rates per day. We are still putting together the labour rate (on contract) per ton of rebars and so on. Always visit www.engineerosaz..com to check for updates. Its work in progress!

2. Genrally for labour rates, the cost normally hovers around 15% of the cost of materials. Considering the quote, the cost of all the materials for the Steel work is about 201600. It is therefore safe to conclude that the 30k would have being a better deal. However the extra 15k may have been included to cover supervisions, if supervision fee is not quoted separately.

3. From the quantity of reinforcement i see in the list, i could easily deduce that the land is perceived to be very stable at shallow depth and perhaps a traditional strip foundation with blocks and columns is to be adopted. If this is true, my advice is for you to also pad the strip. overtime, we have observed that buildings of this size (or load) built on this type of foundation begins to deflect and crack within the first 5-10 years after completion. it is therefore safer to also pad the strip. rushing to have an opinion on a matter when u don't have all the details, either makes u look foolish or appear as a bad belle. I doubt with the plan above that the quotation will even be enough. That quote is half the actual price. And u re saying it's too much.


Bebe2, I suggest u get a professional QS or an experienced civil engineer or builder to give u a better estimate. The materials and labour are unestimated.

obviuosly there is not and look at the whole quotation itself!!!! It wouldnt be surprise to say madam wants cheap labour sot off. Cos that quotation is not all encompassing its kinda unprofessional and crappy!!

Trying to get 3 flats a floor with those two steps will always give you tiny spaces on the ground floor, otherwise figure looks resonable.

Iron bender is fine at 45 for he is handling 16mm for the column starters
155 is also reasonable cos even if it is N50 a block, they count half blocks and might not agree for 100 a day for 9" blocks. They might not count blocks for forming also and set fewer that day.

2000 blocks might not get you to the desired DPC
