Happy delving grin

Remember your sister in the Lord when the time cometh cheesy

My former Sunday school teacher had the same discussion with me some weeks back

Who knows, when you guys get there, we will follow wink
Can't forget a pseudo-feminist cheesy You will help educate women on how they can contribute meaningfully to development and growth without peruvian hairs... grin

Bellong this is what I'm talking about.
I am interested in their agreement prior to the marriage. We can't crucify the husband if he already told her during courtship and she agreed to it.

It is why I will not blame the husband but the lady who agreed to marrying him and crying foul later.

Nevertheless, she can use her advanced studies in discovering or inventing how chores can further be simplified in the kitchen. Positives can always come from negativity... cheesy grin

LOL @ capital and liability

@Politics... I nor get strength! I played a little in school which was an eye opener... Somehow some people's thinking just stops there. I don't know if politics suddenly closes their minds... It comes a terrible struggle to do what is right. I actually prayed for my office more than my academics sef.

I edited and edited my manifesto so that I do not promise what I cannot deliver.

If I am appointed into a position and I see I can make an impact there (not all these shut up positions), I will go for it and my integrity starts to be messed up, biko, I am so bailing out.

There are other ways to make impact grin

You are going into politics?
I understand your position about not wanting to dent your integrity.

Yes, I will delve into politics when the time comes. Its high time we taught Nigerians what good governance, rule of law and transparency are.

People who make arguments that it is African tradition for a woman to be tied in the kitchen and be used for rearing purposes only and not as drivers of a working society. Many girls have imbibed this alien attitude today and rest on their oars.
Should we rather not blame ladies who accept and believe these claims/notions? If I say you are ugly, will you believe me or thrash the statement?

Those with such notions are not as many or much compared to those who believe women should and must contribute to developing a working society.

Natural God given assets of course grin
Hmm... I have natural God given assets too. Which of the assets are you thinking, capital or liability? cheesy

@Gender issues: this might be 21st century, however some people still see things with the lenses of 12th century and issues like this would crop up. I agree we should learn to impact our society. This is not a big thing but just doing whatever we are doing right and putting in extra effort.
Those few ones will always be around as long as the world exist. They are incurable medieval people that unfortunately came in the jet age.. We shouldn't subject discussions to the myopic thinking of those few people.

Meanwhile, Bukatyne when are you contesting for an elective position in Nigeria? huh

I do preach the message of being financially independent, developing oneself and adding one own quota to the African society. These are not exclusive to each other to me. This thread is especially for those who try to use tradition to limit the progress of women.
Who are those trying to use tradition to limit the progress of women? Can you list them so we all know how to tackle them.. huh wink

bukatyne:
What heavenly asset?
Is it what I think it is? smiley
Mind reading is a course I never passed embarassed lipsrsealed . What is it that you think, tell me.. wink

chaircover:
You are absolutely rght. Its not just about being financially independent.
I can be financally independent but spend all my money on gold and clothes, yet my neighbour could be physically abused by her husband everyday and I do nothing to help.
What I need to do as a woman is to be a role model to those around me and add value to those around me. I need to educate myself on a whole heap of different things, so I can be of help to myself and to someone when the need arises.
Our mothers and grandmothers were very hardworking, they stood together shoulder to shoulder and there was communitiy spirit. I still rememebr the stories my grandma used to tell me.
Its not really like that now and its everyman for himself and this is part of where the problem is coming from. its a me me me society that we live in now and the important things are put aside for less important things.
You put it better than I did. I am still taking classes in communications and English language cool wink . Most ladies of this age are only versed in discussing fashion and gossips. Ask some of them the capital of Lagos state, you are in for a long thing.

This is the 21st century, we shouldn't even be discussing about gender issues but how individuals contribute meaningfully to the society and also make impact in his/her environment.

As a Nigerian woman, don't let anyone sell you the lie you should not be financially independent with the excuse of tradition.
A man who tells you this lie, is an enemy of progress and has a colonialist thinking.
Your foremothers were industrious, vibrant go-getters. Do not put your foremothers to shame by reducing your worth for the pittance you get from men.
This ship has sailed. Gone are those days when men insist their wives shouldn't be financially independent. The current economic situation in the country does not encourage the man to be the sole provider except for the stealing politicians and very few money bags.

Meanwhile, it is not being financially independent that should be the message you need preach to women but developing themselves. Adding values to the society, family and people around them, aside the heavenly assets most use to navigate their ways through deep waters.

I don't watch romance movies neither do I read romance novels. They are mostly filled with fantasies... cheesy cheesy Suggest another apart from romance (love story look alike).

I regretted seeing "Legend of the seeker" because at the end of the movie, what they proved to us is that "the love you have for a woman can make you conquer any evil including the devil himself"... undecided undecided Foolish movie I will say.

ihedinobi2:
So was it any good? Me I want fourth opinion sef before I take that kain risk. grin

Good day......please does this external security check applicable to student visa too?
From what I know, I don't think they subject student visa applicants to external checks. The delay in yours is unconnected with an external check. They do have many holidays this period. You will get it soon.. Be patient.. beat your chest and say all iz well... cheesy

Bro! No be sat you talk! The director madt! Lol.

Yes that was one of the most emotive parts. I really hate that. It's why I push at everything until I've exhausted every possibility and it doesn't work.

@moca/ypp/yellowpawpaw, "Like Stars On Earth". Got it. smiley I'll find it.
I just found out that I have " Like stars on Earth" on my system.
It is one of those numerous movies I have on the system that I have refused to watch. Will definitely try to see it tonight.

@bold, you saw it too?

Exactly the same thing with me. I'm ALWAYS hesitant about Indian movies. So cheesy. But that one blew me away when I finally gave it a chance. The thing so inspired me.
One of the most touching part is the guy that gave up on the verge of his breakthrough, the suicide guy.

It is to show that no matter what, never allow the expectations of others control your life. He never wanted to disappoint his village folks...

Men, that director is a mafia... cheesy cheesy

Compliments of the season fellow OZlanders. @bellong,pls what is this external security check? Thanks.
It is part of the processing done for some nationals and individuals recommended for it. It involves checking the person's background and information supplied to DIBP to know if the person would be a security threat to their country in future.

More like investigating his past to make predictions of his future. The result of an individual who has been involved in violence, criminal activities, terrorist activities etc will return negative and get denied for the visa.

How long left is DIBP's only prerogative. Cases are treated on individual basis. However, the timeline is between 3-4 months averagely.

Mine is undergoing ESC.

If he wants it, his wife cannot stop him
If she does, that marriage will not remain the same again as he'll start seeing her as enemy of progress angry
Awujale of Ijebuland became a king at 27, at the time was brought from the UK.

There are many other kings who became king at young age. It is not about age but the will of the gods... cheesy cheesy tongue tongue

The wife should be bothered about other things than her husband marrying a second wife. There are other more important issues that she will deal with than second wife.

Merry Christmas.

Family › Re: Sad Marital Tales From My Friend by bellong: 10:38am On Dec 23, 2014
Your friend's self esteem presently can only be measured by a "telegraphic" compound microscope. The more her self esteem erodes, the more she is stucked and dependent on him.

First thing first, she still have parents, they must be informed of this to start regaining her lost confidence. No matter what, her parents wouldn't forsake her.

Seems the guy doesn't want her again and is doing everything to frustrate her in leaving the marriage.

She has to choose between two choices...

1. Keep it to herself, stay on with the abuse and keep praying for change (Impossible is nothing).

2. Take her destiny in her hands.
