Career / Re: Man Sacked For Going For FRSC Screening In Lagos After Lying He Was Sick by bellville: 11:01am On Sep 26, 2018
You do not call your boss on a Sunday that you would not be coming to work on Monday due to ill-health. No one would take you serious. You call on the morning of the workday. People should learn the rule of work. Don't discuss your plans with fellow colleagues. There are no true friends in the workplace. Every one is there to make ends meet and if that involves kicking you out to get to the top, they will do it. It's a dog-eat-dog world.

Precisely!

To them such jobs or businesses are regarded as insults to their person when they consider their educational background but they forget that money does not smell.

You.may get your hands dirty from such jobs or businesses but the money is always clean and even as the God declared in the bible, "show me a man who is diligent in his in his work, I will cause him to stand among kings and not mere men" . That declaration is very true.

People have gone into villages and began converting faeces to manure and biogas by emptying latrines and making loads of money while others say its too demeaning and stinks.

Those are extreme lazy youths . And when people like Chinese come and do the same thing and grow companies from it, they would then prefer to be employed by these Chinese when they could have been running the whole show if they had only tossed aside their pride.

The youths need to wake up to entrepreneurial drives and stop waiting to be spoonfed.
A friend who is a graduate was sacked three months ago after spending 10 yrs at the job. He immediately ventured into waste recycling as he got bills to pay. I mean he buys waste (metals, used cartons, etc) from mallams, gets boys to load them into trucks and supplies chinese and indian companies. He told me yesterday he wished he had started long ago. His plan in the long term is to buy machines and set up his own recycling firm.

You have a very little mind and this flaw of yours is what makes the difference between the rich and the poor. The rich are mindful of every kobo while the poor are careless over 1k.

The rich understand the significance of 100k -1 naira and know that 99k is not same as 100k so every kobo counts but to poor minded people like you, you are full of wastage.

I began with almost 40k from the back of my house in a makeshift shelter I built myself despite not being a carpenter.

My capital was based on what I wanted to do. A petty trader who sells pepper or tomotoes or Okro or groundnuts would not require that much capital.

In fact there are people who began their own business by first selling for others while accruing their profits until it was large enough for them to stand on their own even if it would be in a small way.

The main capital everyone must have IS A STRONG WILL.

WHERE THERE IS A WILL, THERE IS A WAY.

Capital is just an addition. Ones will is everything.

10k is still a good amount of money to start a petty biz with or even grow one.

If you need some lessons on how to grow from zero, let me know and I would be glad to offer you tips for free.

stop thinking like a slave to money. Think like an entrepreneur to whom money is a tool.
true talk from someone who has been there. You really know what you're talking about. There's money in the informal sector but a lot of educated peeps consider it demeaning.

Pets / Grindadrap In Denmark: Animal Cruelty (graphic) by bellville: 4:16pm On Sep 08, 2018
This is called Grindadrap from Denmark. Really crazy form of animal cruelty.

I thought it's only in Africa people butcher wildlife for food. I never knew the whites do it for fun at an extreme level.

Is there any justification for this? Is there anyone from Denmark who could throw some light on this practice?

Painful. But what were the parents thinking? NDA is no child's play. His brilliance should have been channelled into other profitable niches.

Even if he successfully completed the military training, his chances of being posted to Sambisa would still be very high.

That NDA mission was a huge risk for parents with just 3 children. Like my friend would always say "I no born any pikin wey i wan donate for Nigerian Army o"

Terrific advice.

@HAH,

Credit in Nigeria is effed up. And I mean effed up real bad. Conventional mortgage loans in the US have around 5% or less interest rate with 20% or less (sometimes as low as 3%) down payment requirement. Use one of the government-backed mortgage programs and you could be saving more money.

Nigeria's case is very different. As cederaustine said, interest rate is between 20-25% interest rate and minimum down payment of between 20% to 30% (excluding any closing costs that can range from 0.25% to 1%).

For a 10m home, that's a down payment of 2-3m with annual interest of 2-2.5m (if you go for fixed instead of ARM and also excluding your principal mortgage payment).

If the maths doesn't bother you (it does bother me since this is not a primary residence), then you'd need to go to mortgage institutions, not your average run-off-the-mill deposit banks. Some of the deposit banks have mortgage subsidiaries (like they have insurance subsidiaries) such as Stanbic IBTC, GTBank (GTHomes), First Bank. But there are other mortgage financial institutions that often affiliate with banks that you can approach directly. Here's a list of five to check out --https://www.tolet.com.ng/blog/5-top-mortgage-institutions-in-nigeria/.

That said, you have to check multiple offers and negotiate. We are in a recession, meaning it is a buyer's market. They need your business. 10m is not a lot, but it also means the chances of default is low, which is a plus in their books. And a 1% interest rate reduction is 100k savings per year. First Bank Mortgage offers term repayment plan of as low as 5 yrs (so cederaustine calculations of around 7 yr repayment shouldn't pose a problem for the majority of mortgage institutions).

Typically, you do not have to put down a collateral if you approach a mortgage institution, although they'd need to do an asset and income verification check (to assess your ability to repay), so you'll have to pen it down on a form and provide c/o and other docs to verify ownership. It doesn't mean that they should be able to seize your other homes or assets if you default. If you default, the only home you should lose is the home you're taking the mortgage for.

I think I've covered the most important things. But you should also contact your financial advisor and lawyer. You should have them to navigate the waters for you and protect you should things go south. It's a wild west out there.

I hate this backwards lifestyle and way of 9ja pple. That's one of the numerous reasons we'll never move forward as a nation! We're NEVER objective as a people. This Ayefele guy tends to use his condition to manipulate and deceive pple. There're so many other disabled, invalids and even quadriplegic folks that need such assistance more but due to unnecessary subjective emotions and bias, they won't help them.

There're so many poor hungry pple that need that money perhaps, assistance more. Is Amosun spending his own personal funds or the public's for this refurbishment? undecided

To hell with this Ayefele guy already! angry angry
He has a gift which sets him apart. He maximised that God-given gift and warmed his way into our hearts. Seeth thou a man (any man whether disabled or not) diligent in his business he will stand before kings and not before men. He started by offering something of value- his melodious music and used the proceeds to launch a radio station.
It is not manipulation. It's diligence and grit. Now that he is having challenges, we just have to support him to stand on his feet again.

When i had issues with the police sometime ago, my igbo classmates were the first to arrive. They fought for me like I was their own blood. The police just had to let me go immediately.

Those who engage in tribal rants online are those who are yet to expand their sphere of influence. As your sphere of influence increases, tribe/ethnicity becomes irrelevant.

Career / Re: Is This True About People Working In Lagos? by bellville: 6:09pm On Aug 11, 2018
The first rule of work in Lagos- live close to where you work. Working on the Island and living in Iyanapaja, Ibafo wont work if your earning is low. The traffic you experience on a daily basis will make the job look tasking.

Find a friend, a relative you can put up with either in Surulere, Gbagada, Oworonsoki, Yaba etc or team up with friends, old school mates or rent a room in a tenement building aka face me i face you. Start small. With the extra time saved from traffic, you can think of a side hustle.

If you know you will be working in Lagos after service year, keep in touch with your close relatives living here, call them, attend their events. It's all part of the networking. You may need them eventually especially at the beginning.

This happened at iyana ipaja during my Nysc days in 2007. I was serving in a law firm. It was my cd day. After cds, i usually changed to corporate wear and kept my nysc uniform, boot, vest and cap in a leather bag.

I was walking to the bus station with the bag on the right. From nowhere, two guys on a bike came close. Before I could figure out what was happening, they had snatched my bag and sped off. I was devastated. Passing out was just a few weeks away.

I ended up wearing my fiance's old nysc uniform.

I absolutely agree.

It is disrespectful to upload someone's corpse on social media.

When i lost my spouse, her sister wanted to take pictures of her corpse on two occasions but i stopped her.

I found it disrespectful and totally unnecessary. I specifically made sure no one (including myself) had any picture of her dead body.
Sorry about your loss. Why would someone want to take pictures of the dead? A close relative for that matter. To what end?
When i lost my first cousin, I was too distraught to even view the corpse. I didn't view it at all. I was too heartbroken.
I think something needs to be done about posting pictures of dead people. Maybe a law should be passed prohibiting such.

Leave them to keep blaming religion when medical ethics are clear enough to follow.

A good doctor who knows the best option is a CS should be able to override whatever decision the patient has taken after all they have the "save a life first" oath aka hippocrates oath
the reality in most cases is that those women dont go back to their doctors. Once they are told it's going to be a cs delivery, they dont go back to their doctors. Instead they go to traditional birth attendants, religious maternity homes etc
