Crime › Re: RAPE: FAQ On Nairaland Since The COZA Saga by benji93: 12:03pm On Oct 13, 2019 |
I still maintain my stand. We are not only talking about the creation of policies, but the will to enforce them. If you wanna bring up an example, discuss countries that are similar to Nigeria in their level of development and were able to effectively curb vices such as rape. The case of numerous movements created in the US to protest some of these vices is a bad example as far as I am concerned. That is a society in which if a law is passed, you are sure it will be enforced( they have their own failings though). No matter how many laws the Senate passes to curb the problem, it will remain at large, if they are not enforced. If the elites and rich folks can always get away with rape, What is the purpose of having these policies then. The question is, which solution would be more effective in curbing rape? Talking fervently about them or fixing our system to address the issue. As a lawyer (deduction from references), I understand that talking is your thing, however our system may not care about what you say, and reminding the system that rapists must be severely punished does not mean it will act on it. So keep creating awareness, that's alright, but we are talking about long-lasting solutions to the problem. In that case, getting our governance right is more important. Plus where does the government even come from? The government is generally what the people are, so there is not much difference between the government and the people. Whatever you say about one, you are indirectly talking about other. Only one of them can effectively minimize such a serious problem, and it's not the people. The people can talk, but if those guys at the top don't do anything, nothing happens. For instance, look at the Sowore situation, for all his failings, it was totally wrong. And still the system allowed that. Peace safarigirl: The re-orientation starts from homes. If you know how many laws we have in Nigeria that are poorly implemented, you'd realise it is not so much the government often times, but the people.
Society greatly influences the government policies. If we don't make noise about these matters, nothing will be done. The government cannot work in isolation, society's pressures also determine government policies. So, saying people should drop talking about rape pending when the government choose to pick it up, is wrong.
The LGBTQ movement in America, the Civil Rights movement, influenced laws that led to what the American society has become today. The people didn't just sit at home and keep mute about it. If you don't constantly talk about it in the press and on social media, if you don't keep the topic in the minds of policy makers and public officers, nobody will suddenly bring up or implement laws to correct the societal wrong.
Government may have a role to play, but government is influenced by society's role. If you think protests concerning the matter will solve nothing and are unimportant, the government will regard them with the same importance you give it. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Giving Your Tithe To The Church Or To The Needy: What The Bible Really Says by benji93: 11:23am On Oct 13, 2019 |
What are you writing Man? Verse 23 clearly says: the tithe of thine corn, wine and oil, yet you opine that the passage does not say that the eating and drinking should be from your tithe, but what was prepared by the church. Unless you are arguing that verses 24, 25 e.t.c are not connected to verse 23. alBHAGDADI: Agricultural produce are known to be harvested yearly in most cases, that's why tithing was done yearly. Today, people earn monthly, that's why they pay it monthly. You can chose to accumulate all the monthly tithe and pay it at the end of the year. What matters is you paying what belongs to God. But by the end of the year, the amount may appear too big to want to let go. So, it's advisable it is paid monthly when it appears small.
Yes, you are to feast and dine, but the passage never said you should feast on the exact tithe you brought. The feasting is what the temple prepared for everyone to eat. The bulls, sheep, corn, wheat etc are prepared and eaten by everyone after some have been stored and some sacrificed to God through burnt offering. Imagine you pay a tithe of a cow and bags of corn, can you feast on the whole of it in one sitting? The priest only takes a portion out of the many cows paid as tithe, slaughters it and everyone feasts. Same happens when your church holds yearly or quarterly feasts. |

Careful young lady. Your submission in a way supports the guy's points, thus we cannot entirely dissociate rape from politics. How can Nigerians be reorientated? By circulating information on the social media? Do you know how many Nigerians that only occasionally visit social media platforms, such as this one? What about brother Salisu, the gateman? How can you change the mindset of Nigerians, if not by educating the kids, and inculcating the strong attitude of opposing rape ferociously into them, and for adults that are beyond the rudimentary form of education, if not by circulating information through employment outlets, and establishing correction institutions for recalibrating those that wouldn't listen. I mean, what kind of system enforces such initiatives? Isn't it a working one ? You seem to mean well with your discussion of the problem and solution, but how can you do it without talking about governance, unless governance is not a subset of politics You seem to like trends a lot, here's a question for your thought, in which countries are rape cases unattended to more prevalent, developed or undeveloped/developing? Peace. safarigirl: I didn't read it completely.
Thanks for the correction, I have hardly attacked every man here and I have been attacked multiple times.
@franchasng, I apologise for the misunderstanding
MODIFIED.
I have read and modified my earlier post. I still do not agree with aligning political woes to rape. The rape mindset is a societal problem, not just a political one. The people in Nigeria are the ones that need reorientation, without that, no matter who you put there, the attention to rape will always be poor. We need to solve the issue by changing the mindset of every Nigerian, not changing politicians or working on political powers. |

Honestly, you sound really frustrated. Maybe you should relax and be more objective.First of all there is no such award titled "Nobel Peace Prize in Literature". That's bad journalism on the OP' s part. If you knew onions you would have realized that problem. Having said that, it seems the OP intended to discuss African leaders that were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, if that's the case, then Prof Soyinka should not be on that list. So the premise of your argument is wrong, Prof Soyinka never won the Nobel Peace Prize. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature, which doesn't necessarily have to impact everybody's life directly. So instead of impactlessly holding a placard titled "Soyinka is overrated" get to work and be impactful. Bros get your facts right, don't just single out specific events just to prop yourself up.If falling is the result of making a perforated argument, fall and stand again. It's ok to be wrong. If you wanna bring up the careers of other players to justify the invite of otabor, then do it right. You singled out the years Ekong played in Norway, without indicating the fact that he did so for a year, you made it seem like he played in Norway for 3-4 years. You also brought up Osimhen. Did you just mention that Osimhen was passed around in Belgium? What the hell do you mean? The last I checked Osimhen played for a single Belgian team. If a player played for a succession of lowly-rated teams over a time period of 3-4 years, then honed their skills over the next couple of years to become a decent/good player, it doesn't change the fact that he was average in his previous stint. They might have repented from their sins and become better players. The question is, does he deserve a call-up? No he doesn't. At this point in the time, we have got a large pool of players to pick from, and there is no reason to go as far as Bulgaria to pick someone. Our level don change. When he graduates from average to somewhat good player, maybe he will deserve a call-up then. By the way, usually when a player is average at 23, the likelihood of he continuing that trend of mediocrity is high. That's the problem we have as Nigerians, too much " just take him, his fortunes will change" If you have got no substance, with respect to your job, you definitely don't deserve it. Peace BascoVanVeli: How can you use somebody who started playing as an adult to a full professional
Things happen. Troost Ekong was playing in Norway and look where he is now. Sometimes clubs are blinded to see the quality in players. Our Osimhen was passed around in Belgium before Charleroi took a chance on him. |

İ would think, given your submisson, you are assuming that intelligence should be one of the traits an individual looks out for in a prospective spouse. But as far as i am concerned your submission is not deeply educative. You probably have to do some research about intelligence as a trait. By the way how were you able to determine the level of intelligence of the parents of those kids? İ hope you did not consider parents that couldn't speak standard english as having a low level of intelligence-İf you did so, i am afraid, you are a bad judge of one's level of intelligence. And i hope you are not suggesting that intelligent people marry only intellligent people. No i disagree with that, like height, intelligence is a polygenic trait and has a bell distribution, its not as simple as it sounds, intelligence neither follows a monohybrid cross nor a dihybrid cross. By this i mean it cannot be represented by a single gene/allele. You gotta do osme research in genetics to understand these better. Sometimes parents could have kids that are way smarter than themselves. İt's sheer luck bro, as far as genetics is concerned, another thing is intelligence is epigentic, so it doesnt only depend on DNA, the environment also plays a role. Did you think the jews just turned out to be smart genetically, given their small population. İ think not. The jews have a culture that encourages knowledge acqusition. That is an environment. İn the country called Nigeria, generally some people are still hibernating, as far as intelligence is concerned, its fucking hard to tell who is intelligent and who inot. By hibernation i mean , our environment does not allow us harness our innate intelligence. Let's get our environment in order first, only then can we bring the topic of intelligence in Nigeria intothe right perspective. İMO, its better to let nature lead, than cross-breeding to produce offsprings with specific traits. But it's good you are giving it a thought, but your submissions on the subject is quite misplaced. Peace. Rapmoney: Is Intelligence Inherited In A Family?
"An apple doesn't fall far from the tree" - English proverb.
I spent some years of my life teaching pupils/students at different times from Basic 1 to SS 3. Over these years, I was also able to meet with most of the parents of my pupils/students. One particular thing I observed was that pupils/students whose academic performances were very poor and who lacked the capacity to understand the various subjects taught, plus inability in exhibiting creativity, either had parents who were not 'averagely' intelligent or if they had one parent who happened to be intelligent, they didn't take after that parent; they took after the other in mentality and character.
I also observed that some kids might be intelligent, smart and academically sound while some or all of their siblings would be unintelligent and indifferent to creativity. After meeting both parents of such families, I observed that the intelligent child often took after either the mum or dad who is intelligent in attitude, mentality and character; in fact, sometimes, I have noticed physical appearances and features as part of the resemblance in nature. Have you ever wondered why some people do not study as hard as you do to understand the contents and materials of a course, and even teach you? Such people do not need to read much to understand! It is in the gene. Don't forget the brain is the seat of intelligence biologically; if children can take resemblance of one parent in terms of eyes, nose, mouth, way of walking, way of talking, etc, what stops them from taking semblance of the brain too?
When an intelligent person didn't inherit his/her intelligence from either parents, check deeper, there could be someone in either the mother's side or father's side he/she must have gotten it from. It is this inheritance that gives children the interest to learn, understand, cultivate the interest to pursue knowledge and exhibit creativity. It spurs the attitude of curiosity to learn in a child. Such inheritance of intelligence does not necessarily make a child to be intelligent but it gives the child that innate (natural) consciousness and desire to learn and create things in whatever field he/she finds himself/herself in future; whether in science, arts, entertainment, technology, education, finance or agriculture.
There is a high possibility that two naturally intelligent people will give birth to intelligent children if they marry. There is also a high possibility that the reverse will be the case if the two people involve are not 'averagely' intelligent. An apple never falls far from the tree.
This is the reason why I always opine that love is not enough in a marital affair; especially, when you as a young person, possesses some basic standards as regards an ideal and balanced family. |

I think u should cut him some slack, there will always be residues of that inadequate upbringing technical-wise, your observation are not inaccurate though, he sometimes suffers from a lapse in judgement, perhaps he gets overconfident, if u are pointing to those momentary lapses, I think we can both agree world-class players suffer from it, as far as they dont get lost consistently, but if u are referring to an inadequacy in technically, then I am afraid you will always catch glimpses, if u look close enough, we only hope he can learn to phase out that inadequacy over time, at least to the possible minimum. TheSuperNerd: I refer to a moment in the game he was almost caught in possession. He got away by being fouled. Truth is if he had looked up much earlier, he could have avoided such. The Uk Phd system is mostly a research based degree. You go in and concentrate on your research. That's why the Uk Phd system usually requires an Msc for admission into their programs. |

Honestly, why should he? We are currently mostly festering the idea of capping the guy given his recent form. The guy has represented England at the youth levels and we expect him to show some loyalty to Nigeria courtesy of his ancestry? Hell na. NFF should have scouts on the lookout for talented footballing kids of Nigerians in diaspora and try to convince the kids and their parents to play for Nigeria. Once those kids represent the countries of their birth at the youth levels, our "purchasing power" is almost gone. It's a risk, cos some of them will fail in their development, but we gotta take it. charlesemeka85: I wonder why many blame the issue of Tammy on Pinnick.
Pinnick had a heart to heart talk with the player and his family whivh ended positively and I see no issue on him letting the media know of the outcome of their meeting which is normal.
People to be blamed re Tammy and his parents. If truly Tammy's father wants him to rep us he would have advised his son on grabbing the offer to play at the biggest stage in world football at such a young age, also making him understand that he will play and retire as a legend in the super eagles with Alex Iwobi and Moses as good example and reference points.
I didn't and will never blame it on Pinnick. He did the needful even to an extend of traveling to the UK to have a talk personally with the lad and his minders. I am glad you guys here are beginning to realize that, the way forward is for this players to be integrated earlier-Preferrable into our youth teams. komekn: Well spoken.
You hit the core of the problem.
We do not create long term relationships with players who are based here. From relationship persuasion becomes routine.
We shouldn't wait for the English to recognise our players before we do.
Finally, the nature of engagement that we practice emanates from Nigeria and it's centred on. You need me and l can change your life if you play for the SE. Therefore you should sign with my agent and come to agreements of monetary reward for helping you.
That approach totally fails here, these players do not need the SE to progress thier careers. And will not concede to those disgraceful demands.
I could give you multiple examples, l am sure your level headed not to doubt what I am saying.
I do find it very difficult to understand how Eze waa invited to the SE with multiple promises in 2017. And up to this point nothing has been done to invite him. I just don't know what they are waiting for.
Now if l was Eze l would think that they are not serious. It may also be that someone has asked for gratuity and Eze will not divulge that in the public domain because you simply never have the proof. You could therefore face defamation litigation and nobody in the NFF will admit to that anyway. |
