Where did you study man? Can you not see my choice of words? "possibility", "reasonably expected" e.t.c. This is the last one on the subject matter please, you don't get it.
5inchdick:
I'm not faulting your analogies. They become fallacy when presented as conclusive prove, just as you are doing right now.

While it is safe to assume that 4 grains will yield 2000 husks, there is no certainty it will.
Now, if two grains makes a 1000 husks in a year, that doesn't follow that four grains will make 2000 husks as they are lot of factors which may be detrimental or beneficial, resulting in either a lower yield or higher yield.

I am sorry can you refer me to the post in which I indicated that it's a fact ? when I kept using words, like could, e.t.c. You seem to be lost now? or you just want to argue? The exchange has gone stale anyway.
5inchdick:
You passed your analogies as conclusive proof and that's a fallacy; I didn't say deductions aren't part of life. So are you finding a hard accepting it?

I am sorry man, if that cannot help you understand that it is common knowledge that nothing in life is certain, and deductions have always been part of our lives, i cannot help you. Good luck on that one.

I don't know what job you do man, but people make deductions, based on premises, and my premise was pretty solid. And you are kinda funny you know, what does a deduction mean? Isn't it making inferences? What I did was an extrapolation, and you can't do better than it. He did good with a relatively less talented bunch, it's only reasonable to assume he would do better with a better team. if you think this is not, perhaps you come from a different planet. Perhaps you think we cannot base our opinions on the possibility of events that may or will never happen on the information we already know. Did you even think about this before typing? grin. I honestly can't believe anyone would say this. grin. Again let me do this as though I am explaining to a 5-year-old. If you are given 2 grains of maize and you get a yield of 1000 husks of maize in one year. If i give you 4 grains of maize, it is reasonable to expect production of around 2000 husks. It's reasonable, man, just reasonable. grin.
5inchdick:
Your argument is hinged on that: You drew a comparison from what you know, and now, you are assuming that the unknown will follow similar pattern. That, my son, is a fallacy.

I would stop you there. I am not among the majority, although I believe he could have done better. His technical ability wasn't top-notch. But man I can not argue with a trophy, and advancement to the second round, however, he got it, whether he got lucky or not he still did. And if Keshi is not the benchmark who is? Stop throwing words around man, calm down. grin. It's fallacious to opine that someone who won Afcon and got the team to the second round of the world cup could do better with better players? Are you kidding me? Or are we talking about a different kind of fallacy? Cos i amn't understanding you. grin. You all are proud of. Who and who? You have not been paying attention. Get them trophies, then we can properly assess you, you say wetin. Perhaps we have different opinions on what winning entails. For me, the number of trophies you win significantly defines your coaching status.

Edit: I could ask a similar question, how many foreign coaches have done better than Keshi?
5inchdick:
Stop believing. How many of these coaches have given better results. it's ironic nairaland now set Keshi as a benchmark for successful local coach. Same Keshi majority of you here said was tactically inept? Same Keshi lot of you denigrated his achievements, stating he was lucky to have won the AFCON and shit?
I still believed Keshi is the best Eagle's coach but it's fallacy to say he would perform better with these set of players as he could even perform worse with them. Remember his ego made him ignore some top players in the team, same could repeat if Keshi is coach today.
We have a coach who is building a team which you all are proud of but it seems he ain't your favourite. let the local coach get the team, since he will surely get a better result. Bullcrap! Let the local coach build his own team and get better results.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by benji93:
It turns out that in our history of hiring foreign coaches only one foreign coach did better than Keshi, Westerhof with the additional Olympic gold, and Westerhof had the golden generation of players. In all honesty, nothing is better than putting your own in charge, if they have the training. So put a structure in place to enable them to get the training.
Edit: Keshi is on par with Westerhof. it was Bonfrere that coached that that team that won the Olympics.
Joebie:
There is a reason why coaches have mandates. I've never heard an SE coach get the mandate to win 20 number of matches out of 30 for example. It's always based on winning a cup or making a certain level of progress at tourneys. some kind of arguments is not just worth it.

He could? Did he? Of course, he did. Rohr would be glad he can achieve what Keshi had. Do you not remember the crop of players Keshi won with, and to top it, we got to the knockout stage of the world cup, the following year. We have not had this crop of players in a long time, honestly. Most of them are young but we've got a talented bunch in our hands. I repeat Rohr better do something with this. And I actually do believe there are local coaches out there that can do as much as Rohr with this crop of players. He hasn't done much with the team anyway. By this I mean we will have to wait till he starts winning trophies to properly assess him. The thing is we would like to have a number of local coaches excelling, and acquiring some technical shrewdness, although at the moment good local coaches are very scarce. Thanks do our system.
5inchdick:
He could also have performed poorly too. Fact is non gave us a better result.

Victor too big for Arsenal? Take am easy now. Perhaps Osimhen is too small for Arsenal. grin. Pepe is one example of why you should be cautious about taking players from the farmers league. grin. unless they are in the top 2-3%. You may argue that Arsenal does not have the manpower to enable Osimhen but to say Arsenal too small, Naaaa.

you really didn't get my point. I'm not saying Victor is too big for arsenal. What I'm implying is that Arsenal are rebuilding. Many players will be sold/released and some will be bought. This , I think can't give victor the atmosphere to properly settle in. You sef see how dem dey drag Pepe na .

This is a good point. But note that some of the bad selections our local coaches have made in the past(probably still on) have been in cahoot with NFF officials. In fact, it could have been a pre-requisite for keeping your job, after all, you are a local coach. We can ruin you. They may have done this with foreign coaches as well. These coaches cannot talk about these if they had been required to sign a non-disclosure prior to getting the job. The NFF usually chooses a local coach temporarily after they have messed up, to save face. Do they even have programs to bolster the know-how of individuals aspiring to become coaches, especially those that have attained some success at the youth level? At this point given the derelict state of our institutions, going elsewhere to get that rigorous, more technical training is just fine. I am sure if they want this for our locals through partnerships with successful footballing associations and probably clubs, they could get it done. No plan, nothing. We could continue depending on the expertise of foreign coaches(the better ones of course) for a while, as we try to get those showing promise some world-class training. It's quite painful. I sometimes want to avoid deriding our local coaches. For all their faults, it's hard not to think, they may just not be armed enough to do better, courtesy of the system that produces them. A chameleon begets a chameleon.

You labeled them correctly. Allegations. How can you be sure it was overseen by one of Adeshina's Lackey's that was what I was talking about. Be reasonable. AfDB is an international organization, with a board comprising of members from different countries. As far as I am concerned if his fellow African peers absolve him of all allegations, then so be it. It's after all an organization created to serve African interests. I honestly don't know how they allowed those guys to become shareholders(of course it's the money they bring to the table). African leaders should be allowed to decide on investigations regarding an official of a Bank created to serve their interests. Since they have let those guys in there's no way such situations can be avoided. I do not understand why an African Bank must be subjected to scrutiny by a jury from outside Africa. It defeats the identity of the bank. If Africans cannot be trusted to make the right decisions, I don't understand why the bank still exists.

He can you say that an in-house committee that was likely superintended by one of Adeshina's lackeys was unbiased and independent

Did you even read the allegations against him before coming here to defend him blindly?
It's an allegation, and until they provide evidence suggesting he did all those things mentioned, it will remain so. If this was in Nigeria, i would probably be worried it could be true. But it's an African thing, created for African people. There are south Africans, Algerians, Nigeriens, Chadians e.t.c. Let them decide. Stop going all over the place peddling an allegation as fact.

Most people who head Nigerian establishments will not survive when given opportunity to head a multinational corporation where there are strict rules of engagement
Many qualified people will. They definitely know how to comport themselves in more organized environments. I say many cos, western leaders mismanage organizations as well as African leaders. The disorganized state of our system contributes to the corruption of the moral compass of Nigerians.

In case you don't know Adeshina was busy employing only his friends and cronies and flouting organisational procedures.
Man i hate stuffs like this. Why are you talking as if you are privy to AfDB dealings, do you have any evidence of this, apart from the allegation put forward?
He thinks he is still in Nigeria where qualified people should only be given jobs based on man-know-man.
This not quite useful. if you think Nigerians are not capable of leading with transparency and competence, that's your problem.
He was also doing the usual over-invoicing Nigerians love to do so that he can get kickbacks.

But of course you will not see that one cos you have accepted corruption a a normal thing hence your blind defence of a compatriot
Again your opinion of Nigerians generally does not include me. You may have accepted it, but that's not for me.
Nigerians and Africans at large are always quick to play the race card whenever a leader of African extraction is called out by the west for wrongdoing...quite a shame really cos that is the reason why we are the most backward continent on the face of the planet.
Let the Africans decide if he's guilty. It's an African thing. If they cannot do so in all honesty, the bank should be dissolved and everyone given back their monies

I am a full-blooded Nigerian but if Adeshina is found guilty then he should be kicked out!

As much as this is a decent result, which probably means he deserves a chance to continue, at least over one yeye Redknapp. grin, unless they find someone else technically better. I an not quite the Rohr fan, and while his flaws are obvious, the man has refused to notice them and readjust accordingly. If he cannot back that winning rate with an Afcon trophy, and subsequently get us to the knockout stage of the World cup in 2022, especially now that some young talented Nigerians are coming in, he would have underachieved. We have had enough 2nd and third place positions in the past by the same local coaches we labeled mediocre, so I don't know why it's impractical to label him as such. It's quite painful that very few or no Nigerian coach is technically sound enough to get us there. I hope some of these guys will go out there, if they haven's already, to get the training that is required(provided coaching is their forte). As someone else suggested, perhaps the growth of African coaches and their breakout into competitive positions have been stifled by the powers that be.

Be reasonable when making your comments. AfDB must have rules that are applied in such a situation. The Ethics committee could not have been headed by its president. And why would you call it a sham? Because it was presided upon by African leaders? Because the west says so? What a show of inferiority. The timing is particularly suspect, given the fact that the elections will be conducted soon. Meanwhile, according to a report by the African report, the chairman of the committee, may have violated the bank's rules by sending the whistleblower's report to the board of directors before consulting the legal advice department. This accusation may not even matter, cos their intention may just be to entrap him in a long-winded investigation that puts his re-election bid in jeopardy.

As much as i sympathize with this guy, and i hope Kelechi can help him, giving your contact to people who were your childhood friends is most of the time a bad idea, especially now that you are up there, enjoying some success, especially away from home. You never know, while some people grow up to become friends indeed, others grow up to become bitter. You cannot assume someone is being wicked for not giving out his/her contact. Perhaps he/she is trying to avoid the wicked, before your story becomes he/she was so so so and so. Besides why would you just want to take some pictures with him, i mean i would want to achieve some level of success before showing my kids a picture i took with another successfully individual(even if he was more). Anyway such matters are quite complicated and not new. Each side could provide legitimate reasons why certain actions were taken. All in all i hope he gets to meet his childhood friend(Kelechi) again(we all want to associate with success, don't we), and maybe Kelechi can help him out too. But as someone would say, Hustle and pray Hard my guy. It is well.

Kelechi iheanacho was my childhood friend, we grew up together in the same neighborhood Nekede Old Road Owerri IMO state. We played the street balls together under the rain and scorching sun. We attended the same primary school; Unique Nursery and primary school Umualum Nekede No 4 b/stop as at then but has relocated to a new site now. We did almost everything together but today grace has found you and you've rose and clapped your way into the corridors of fame and stardom, you're now a celebrity not just in Nigeria but all over the world.

I remember how we conquered the environments of Ama - ato. Azuatalam,Chigozirim known as Podosky and you and I. If we are not there the games won't be fun but you've forgotten so fast and now mingles with those that you met after being famous.
We played an academy club "Danish" together for years before you moved to Taye academy how can you just forget those days so fast.

I remember how happy i was when i watched you play for Nigeria under 17 in UAE 2013.. I was not surprised when you conquered the world in that stage because i knew how good you were prior to then. Your senior brother Uchenna couldn't give me your contact because we are no more on the same pedestrian, you've moved higher.

Hear this,

I'm writing this not because hunger has finished my life but because a picture with you now will serve as a story i will tell to my children. Don't forget that the bodyguards and security personnel guarding you from people coming close to you, were not there when we use to go to the bush in Uzo ubi those days in search of riped fruits. It pains my heart that you've forgotten most of us who suffered with you and grew up together with you in the hood.
It's hard for me to get reach to you again as i've followed you in all social media platforms, Instagram, twitter, e.t.c. But it's easy if you want to get to me,if really you want to.

Please whoever that can reach out to Kelechi Iheanacho should help me and show him this letter and tell him it was written by Bala as i was nicknamed those days.

Rising to stardom doesn't mean you should forget those who grew up with you. I still remember paying for some matches we watched together at the viewing centres even game centres for PS2 (PlayStation). The things we did together are so enormous that i can't put all in writing.

Friends, i know Kelechi Iheanacho may not see this but you that is reading it now, don't forget the people with you now when luck shines on you.
Don't call them lazy, poor or feel irritated when you see them coming to you. We all started from somewhere and grace found you.

Maybe not as important as Ejuke's or Maduka's potential move, but a potential move by Akpeyi to Belgium is quite an improvement, at least for him. grin. Perhaps you are of the opinion that it's too late. That may be reasonable in the long term. However you may want to consider the fact that, transfers for goalkeepers are not as straightforward as that of outfield players, especially the homegrown. Enyeama was already quite good a goalkeeper by the mid-2000s, but he wandered all over Israel and only got a contract at Lille after the 2010 word cup(where he was bordering on the very-good class). What makes you think the same level of corruption does not apply to Nuclear energy? The current means of generating power can be tracked and monitored if those guys really want to. As there is no means of energy you cannot manage, there's equally no means of energy you cannot mismanage. I understand your support for Nuclear, but your argument that Nuclear energy can be better managed is not well-taken. Do not mistake the faults in the delivery of a service through a particular means for faults in means itself. It doesn't matter what electricity generation means we adopt, if they will steal, they will steal. Those supervisors that would rather keep enriching themselves from the failure of a management system will keep looking the other way. The problem here is the people, no matter how positive your intentions are in the design of an effective system, such as the generation of power, if the people are hell-bent on ruining it, it will come down in ruins in no time. Nigerians are unapologetically corrupt. That problem has to be solved first.
mrphysics:
Let's get back in to the lab or school. This is why we are here isn't it? And I will be needing your inputs too.

Few years ago, Nigeria signed an agreement with Russia Atomic Energy (Rosatom) to build a NPP in Ituh LGA Akwa Ibom State. The agreement was that Rosatom will build manage and handover to Nigerians in 2035 or thereabout. The construction and installation of the reactor core will start next year (2021). The geological assessments etc has been done, approval has been given by presidency too, and there has been an ongoing sensitization (poorly done anyway) of stakeholders in the local government. Remember, Rosatom will build, manage, train (Nigerians) and handover in 2035. The cost of building this is $10b and will be financed by Rosatom. Nigeria will manage and ensure good environment.

Few days ago, the FG through El-Rufia after their executive meeting said the Federal Government has spent N1.3Trillion on electricity in the last three years. The truth is, while there is improvement, many are yet to experience this. I do not wish to forget also the amount spent thus far on electricity without any improvement.

Now does Nuclear Solve bulk of the problem? Yes. The major cause of the corruption in the power sector is the channel through which the money is spent. It is spent on an open ended project that can't be accounted for properly and that is why any auditing of the power sector won't work. In 2007, my company was the consultant for the NBET (Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading) Company. It is important to know that NBET is the sole buyer of all electricity generated in Nigeria. Currently, Nigeria operate a Single-Buyer model which works only for countries with small economy and populations. In this World Bank sponsored consultancy project, I was deeply involved and that is where I saw the weakness of our power sector, the death thereof too.

Nuclear PP is a focused niche. It has a set budget for each amount of electricity. It is an area where you can track progress and monitor generation because it is highly regulated. Activities of NPP is not only monitored by the host country but by the international community. Every country currently constructing a NPP is known, the stages are there and it is closely monitored. This makes it highly efficient in it's delivery and hard to steal fund. What about our current process? It is weak, open ended, no one is interested, there is no set budget for any amount of electricity, no one monitors them and that is the loop of events that we are in.

I hold the opinion that we will continue running around this loop and having little or nothing in power output if we don't consider a highly monitored source of electricity. Trust me, I have been to top of where these issues are discussed and I can tell you that even in the next 15 years, our case is not going to be different.

So what do you guys think? The classroom is open, no one is inside but you can contribute. I will like to hear your thoughts. Drop the comments and I will do well to respond. No one is right or wrong here anyway.

But honestly, this is kinda wicked. Not quite Oral too. grin. But why are they treating Graduate students as undergraduates? I would think posing questions directly to students to test their understanding generally may be more effective, especially for Grad students.
mrphysics:
Ladies and gentlemen, I hope you are staying safe.

We have been engaged in the last weeks and days, being stuck before the screen of your laptop for hours everyday is unarguably, one of the most difficult ways of learning. Like its been established, the French Education System is difficult and complex. Conducting exams online is something most of them won't agree to. They will look for a way to subject you to their poor grading system. We have written one exam thus far (of course online) and we have two this coming week. Tuesday and Friday. Instead of adopting online exam, all of them opted for oral exam. In this method, you come in sessions of 30 minutes each. Turn on your system camera and audio, and respond to the questions as they come. This is the model of the two exams we have this week. But the previous exam was strange. We all connected to the zoom session, the lecturer shared the exam question on zoom, and we began to answer the questions on our MSWord. After 30 minutes, he requested we send the document to him via email. He confirmed receipt of the entire document before ending the session. This is strange, I don't even know why they choose this method. Well, they do not trust the integrity of most students. However, some scholars in other schools are giving some questions and asked to submit before a particular time. Which is good. My school will surely overdo and impose their bad marking scheme on us all.

Last semester was difficult for me. I had no idea the French are reserved and conservative with everything. The results shocked me huh huh . Battling with upgrading the poor education received in Nigeria, coping with the seemingly new field, and coming up after 4 years of leaving the university, everything was so hard. When the results came out, it wasn't looking good neither was it looking bad. I just didn't get the right grades in where I wanted. I was 0.4 points below the distinction range. The hope that things would turn around this semester having understood the system and knowing how some of them are impressed, this hope was adversely affected by Covid-19. Now, we are all learning new ways of passing. In a country where alot is placed on grade, it becomes irrelevant not trying to get a good grade and becomes necessary to understand the concept and competencies than the grades. Whichever way, there's no reason not to get good grades. We have to hustle it up.

But I like the French people or say system, though difficult but one thing is sure, you will get all the competencies you need.

True. While your point is actually based on human instinct, I actually think tribalism is alright. You can be tribalistic and not be cynical.
ModestGal:
.
This is not tribalism, we also have children, and we take care of them. You decide to breed rodents in the name of learning, you created the problem and you now want us to collect it from you. Till now an average Northerner still support the RODENTS almajiri breeding, you can't give us the problems we did not create.

The earlier you understand that tribalism has a Nigerian passport the better for you. grin
Juliusmalema:
This is bad.

Why sending them back?

No be one Nigeria again?

Why no quarantine them and absorb them into larger ondo state if they tested negative.

Or put them on Isolation if positive.

Nigeria constitution guarantees them right to stay in any western states and the constitution supersede any regulations.

The society should protect the weak and the vulnerable. According to whom? Who dictates what should be done, and what shouldn't? Where did you get that clause from "society should protect the weak and the vulnerable".it seems you are still in a dream. You don't seem to understand that women in the west are not one of the vulnerable ones. In fact, they are the predators in that part of the world. If they don't take men will soon become an endangered species. grin. The socio-economic environment created based on the assumption that women are vulnerable is fast working in favour of women. It's sad especially because that assumption is not necessarily the case anymore.
