Why don't you take a deep breath, then go back and read the news again, perhaps this time aloud. And why are you ranting as if Nigerians are not aware that we may have a lot more cases than has been confirmed? And it looks like you have something to benefit from the spread of the virus. Why does it have to be as high as 20000? What is the basis of assuming it must be well over 20000? You better go and sit down and protect yourself. Stop throwing out figures, when you are not quite sure. You went through all multiples of 1000 all the way to the 20th. Are you kidding me? Such a wicked person.

Health › Re: Coronavirus: Why Is NCDC Not Showing The Number Of People Tested? by benji93: 3:23pm On Mar 26, 2020
I agree, the number of tested individuals should be published, in order to be able to fairly estimate the magnitude of this problem. I hope Mr Chikwe Ihekweazu remembers this statement "Nigeria needs a central, well-resourced centre for infectious disease prevention and control, or one day we will pay the price the hard way", credited to him, quoted from his Wikipedia page. Well, I suppose he was quite critical of our unpreparedness for any health threat. And that was a correct assessment. Most Nigerians could see that anyway. He's in charge of NCDC now. I hope in these turbulent times, he can prove that he's the right person in charge. Not publishing the names of the number of people tested is putting a foot wrong. For some of us that are not quite sure what the number of people tested positive means, and are pessimistic as result, we would expect that a publication of important figures including the number of tested people can help us understand how serious the situation is. I sincerely hope he's not another case of an empty barrel. I hope he's well prepared for this. Granted the Nigerian government makes available resources needed. I would think they would.
Validated:
The National Centre for Disease Control reportage of cases in Nigeria is suspect and lack transparency. I think that this is not the time for propaganda and misinformation or disinformation. Misinformation and the poor reportage make people to be lackadaisical and not take the pandemic serious.
A very vital MISSING information on the NCDC report is Number of Patients tested. The standard world wide is as follows

Number Tested xxxxx
Number of Confirmed Cases xxxxx
Number of Active Cases xxxxx
Number of cases resolved xxxxx
Number of deaths xxxxx

If you look at the NCDC report below, you would agree with me that Number of people tested is MISSING and this is a critical piece of information.
It is frightening to know that some states that may have cases would be living in fools paradise because cases that ought to have been detected are not and such individuals will be spreading it on daily basis.

A World Health Organisation (WHO) report indicated that as of March 22, 2020, Nigeria has tested only 152 persons with a record of (40 positive which represents 26%) while South Africa tested 15,500 with about (702 cases representing 5%). Extrapolating these numbers, you would agree with me that if 15,500 patients were tested in Nigeria just like it is in South Africa, the number would conservatively be between 2-3% or 300 - 450 minimum.

This deceit need to stop. Here is calling on NCDC to be open and transparent in the interest of all and not play politics with peoples' lives.

This is definitely a reasonable argument. But i could also argue that men won't accept 1k, cos they believe you cannot buy sex. Some self-esteem perhaps. On the other end, a lot of women will probably accept the same amount because they consider the trade fair. So you see, you may want to be open-minded when making such an argument. So your reason is not the only possible why. How do you propose we decide which of those reasons is stronger?

But he is a professor, and due to politics, nobody questions the nonsense he supervises.
Education › Re: Is Spending N16M On A 3-Year Ph.D In The UK Worth It? by benji93: 1:11pm On Mar 26, 2020
The bolded is not quite correct. You cannot do it from just anywhere. The availability of online sources is not the only factor. The credibility of your supervisor matters a lot, probably more than the accessibility of information. The availability of information is not quite a factor today actually. In general, most PhD students need guidance during their PhD, as they conduct their research. Getting a good to great mentorship, as you can imagine mostly depends on your supervisor. There's also the problem of what is called wonderful research. This is largely based on what those top-end professors call it. You may not do great during your Phd, but the clout of your supervisor may just be enough to get you those enviable post-doctoral research fellowships. There's a lot of politics in research too.
obstead200:
aunty, u are not being realistic. Maybe u are one of those silverspoon fed kids who are guaranteed a job placement back here in Naija. Or u are just schooling for the fun of it.(maybe because Ur husband wants a wife with a PhD).

Now listen, to be realistic, a PhD is basically a means to an end. And the end is simply more money.

So, for me, I can't spend that amount on any PhD except I have a position locked down waiting for me to step into as soon as I am done. Or unless I am very sure of getting a job placement in that foreign land as soon as I am done. If not, then the only way I can undertake such a PhD is through scholarship.

Trust me, PhD is research based. Which means u can do it anywhere, as long as u are willing to do the donkey work, u will still turn out a wonderful research and contribute greatly to the body of knowledge.
I however, had to admit that research is easier over there in UK cos u have access to prime data sources, premium online libraries and current methodologies.

Honestly. This is quite unconventional. Why would you spend your money pursuing a Ph.D? This is effectively a research degree. No right-thinking person does that. I can only assume you are doing it out of desperation. Most reputable institutions usually offer funded PhD positions. Can you tell us the name of the school and your potential research supervisors? Did you submit your own research proposal- Was your original intention to get a professor to supervise your research, given that you already have a project proposal? Can you let us in on your research proposal, if you have one?

Hello everyone - I'm not quite sure whether this is the right section to post this.

Anyways, I currently hold a Master's degree and I also recently gained admission into a PhD program in a UK university but with no funding from the school and the estimated total cost of the tuition and living expenses amount to about #16 million for the 3 years.

So, I decided to come seek the opinion of folks here with better experience if it really worth spending this amount in the long run or should I rather invest this amount?

Thank you in advance!

Well, well. Here in Ankara, the higher education directorate banned education for 3 weeks. That has been in effect since 16th March. Most Turkish students, except graduate students, have been sent home. As an international student, you are allowed to stay on campus if you have nowhere else to go. I was told the kind of inspection that goes on outside no be Joke. I have not been out for over a week. Thankfully, I stocked up for a few weeks including some cooked food prepared to last for at least 2-weeks- But I might consume all of it ahead of schedule. grin. I forgot to include the fact that eating out sometimes may not help your estimation of how much food you actually need when you have to hoard. Given the current explosion in the number of cases, classes are currently being held on zoom. It looks like the intended three-week-long break may be extended since the current number is over 1500. Note that the first case was recorded on the 10th of march. This is not surprising though, given the central nature of Turkey. The government is currently after individuals from Umram and their contacts. They won't tell the public the distribution of those numbers though-each city and the number of cases and deaths. Waiting patiently for this thing to hit the summit of its bell-curve. May God help us. Stay safe.

Sorry, no he can't average 8-9 assists. Take it easy bros, It's not ludo man, stop putting out just any argument. GSW is not exactly a system that could help your case. Think again man. I respect KD's game man, he literally put us over the hump. grin. But honestly cut Harden some slack. KD was throwing a lot of bricks as well during the playoffs while he played alongside Westbrook. grin. Go and check his stats. His FG% and 3P% dipped considerably during the playoffs until he came to GSW. And don't tell me Westbrick was handling the ball most of the time, cos since he can shoot over everyone, he should have done alright during the playoffs as well. Now I am not considering a situation in which he actually improved his game when he crossed over, but i can't also forget the fact that he had the luxury of playing alongside one of the best shooting backcourts of all time. Only time will tell us which of these is True, or which combination of them fits his current status. Two years of incredibleness does not wipe out history or help him reacquire all the bricks he's lost. It has changed his outlook going forward though. We are all looking forward to what that highly skilled baller does on his next stint. By the way please do me a favor, check the stats before coming up with any counter-argument. Please at least check the stats like @steady986 does. grin. Thank you.

Una blood too they hot for this place o. Small thing na to fight remain. I beg o, man's no get time for that o.

KD could average 8-9 assists if he wants. Like you pointed to, He averaged around 5.9 his final season at GSW and he wasn't the primary ball handler. He isnt the second choice... it's Steph curry, Draymond Green, then Kevin Durant and he averaged almost 6 assists.

When he was at OKC, you said he averaged 5.5? Compare the playing styles back then and now? Was the offense this quick? How many possession per game did teams have back then compared to now? What is the points per game? Teams are scoring 140 points per game now.

These things matter Sha.

If Kevin Durant plays in a D'Antoni system, he would average 10 points everygame. He draws more attention than James Harden and can easily shoot over anybody in this league.

My guy, you don't have to drive everytime when you can shoot over anybody in the league. Why wreck your body doing all that when nobody fit block your shot? Doesn't mean he can't drive or he isn't good at it. Just simply conserving your body.

There are some players in this Nba that their body is glass but only skills they have is driving Sha, and now na every season them they do surgery.

Sense > Gra Gra.

James Harden drives and drives and drives and what happens in the playoffs? Uncle gets tired and starts settling for jumpshot that doesn't even go in.

Even LeBron that is one of the strongest player in this league, uncle sef they get tired from driving. Sometimes post up and get the job done o

Anyways, this isn't really part of his game and doesn't seem to be something he is focusing on Sha....

donlittle25:
Which one is what the heck? Na question I ask broz.
Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by benji93: 6:19pm On Mar 19, 2020
What the heck? KD's highest assist average at OKC with or without Westbrook getting injured was 5.5, which he pulled off in 2013/2014, the same season Westbrook played about half of the season. He even averaged better-5.9- in his final season at GSW, which is obviously cos of the way GSW plays. If this is in support of the point that he can play as the primary ball-handler, then I am afraid, it's a moot one. 5.5 is not in any way indicative of ball-handling ability, at least at an elite level. If the original argument, however, is giving him the ball most of the time, as suggested by someone else, then that's quite possible. If he has the ball most of the time in Iso, then he probably could come close. but you don't get 35 points per game without driving the ball some of the time. As we both know, KD is not quite the driver.
donlittle25:
what was KD assist average the year Westbrook went down
Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by benji93: 4:26pm On Mar 19, 2020
I am sorry, stop overstating KD's abilities. He cannot handle the ball as much as Harden. He can bring the ball up sometimes. But he cannot be the primary ball-handler on a winning team. I am definitely talking about handling the ball primarily for an extended period of time.
SmooshCHN:
You're right. If KD handled the ball as much as Harden, he could average way more than 35 without the FTs.

steady986:
What the LeBron haters won't tell you is that LeBron has made it to the finals 9 times in 16 years, that's 56% of the time. Jordan, meanwhile, went to the finals only 6 times in 15 years, amounting to only 40%. You could say Jordan went 6 for 6 in those finals, but what was he doing the remaining 9 times? Are we just going to sweep that under the carpet? In 16 years, LeBron failed to get to the finals only 7 times, like he owned the league or something, a league of 30 teams. What are the odds?

I have been trying to be respectful. Don't ever call me Nigga, cos I am not. You are new here so I understand. I don't continue a chat that's not going anywhere. You don't even know what you are writing. We are all busy with one thing or another, but it seems you live on social media. Good luck with that. I can't help you cure your sickness of not being able to express yourself properly. You have to do that yourself. Go find a cure. Now back to your comment. You definitely need sound education. I had to waste my time to read the article again. I honestly don't know who depends on the USA today for reliable NBA news, when you can always follow it up on NBA reference, check the stats and make a convincing conclusion on your own. If you can't realize that the writer of that article was playing with words in the last sentence of paragraph one, you really do need that education. In fact, it's urgent. However, I have some time this morning, so I will give you some education.

Three-time NBA champion LeBron James already has a firm spot in the basketball history books in a myriad of categories, but his exact placement is becoming more clear.

As he enters his second year with the Los Angeles Lakers, the 34-year-old star — who will be paired with friend and new Laker Anthony Davis — has some significant milestones he can hit quite quickly.

James likely will reach these during the 2019-20 season if he produces similar statistics to his injury-shortened season last year.

The bolded is the entire first paragraph. You took the last sentence and drew a conclusion, leaving the context out. That's something you would learn from academic writing. If you skipped that class, I can't help you cos it's entirely your fault. That sentence was obviously a catchy conclusion to an introductory paragraph. It was to get you to read the rest of the article, which you obviously did not. All you were looking for were highlights, not a body of facts. In the penultimate sentence of the first paragraph, the writer wrote: "Lebron has some significant milestones he can hit quite quickly", but he didn't state which milestones. Then he went further in the last sentence of that paragraph "James likely will reach these during the 2019-20 season if he produces similar statistics to his injury-shortened season last year", which is obviously a reference to these milestones. By the way, a milestone doesn't have to be top ten, it could be moving into top 5 on a list he's already top ten. For instance, in assists, passing Gary Payton and Isiah Thomas was quite a milestone since those guys were traditional point guards. but he was 11th before this season commenced, so anyone that can count could have figured that out. For 3-pointers, he concluded that Lebron could pass Peja Stojaković, Rashard Lewis, Klay Thompson, Bryant, and Chauncey Billups. We know some of those guys are respectable 3-point shooters, Klay especially. He's passed all the people mentioned anyway, but that still doesn't get him into the top ten as you suggested in the first comment that led to this exchange, which was what I was disputing anyway. In fact, that guy's idea of a milestone is quite debatable. I don't know if passing an injured Klay Thompson in his 9th season can be considered a milestone. Some might, and that's quite alright. Regarding minutes, the guy clearly stated that he could pass Kobe, Wilt, and Duncan. Those guys are considered top 10 or 11 by most people, so you could consider it a milestone. The article was actually before the beginning of this season, October 16, 2019. I have no idea why you are referencing it now. You are definitely lacking in your ability to source for relevant information. The writer was playing with words, and you couldn't figure it out. That's not my problem. You also used the phrase "most categories", which is not true, not according to that article, and definitely not from any relevant source. He'll be top ten in points, assists and minutes by the end of 2019/2020 season, which he already is. He cannot get into top ten for any other category. Period. Those are 3 categories. Now go and read the article again. You may never get such an education again. grin. Again the writer used the word "milestone", which doesn't necessarily mean top ten. You took different parts of an article in different contexts and put them together. That is the definition of having comprehension issues. Be wise in your next comments. You have both expression and comprehension issues. I don't know what to do about you, honestly.

Stop going back to this argument, cos it doesn't help your case. The projection was not for this season. Perhaps you should stick to your comment before this one. He could do it by the end of his career. No argument. But don't suggest that he could by the end of this season. He's already top ten in total minutes, so that's not really part of my argument.

Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by benji93: 7:40pm On Mar 14, 2020
The argument is he can't get in this season even if he tried to. Don't assume projections made by other analysts are valid. Do some analysis yourself. I read the article you referenced. Nowhere in there did they suggest he could by the end of this season. That was a career-long projection. You opined that he's top ten in almost every statistical category that matters, and that's a lie. Now I clearly misunderstood one of your previous comments, cos you mentioned that " if this season were normal, he would. It's quite ambiguous. It could mean any of 2 things. Going by your current argument which was clearly stated, there's no disputing the fact that he could end up in top 10 in 4 categories, realistically, but it's still an exaggeration to say almost all categories.
Afromentalist:
Hate is worrying you. It's eating deeply in your bones. We must do something about that

Again I said it was projected that Bron could get to the top ten on different aspects of the game including those I quoted. Now whether he achieves it this season or not, he will definitely blow it all up by the time he retires, and there is nothing you can do about that. Now,

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2019/10/22/lebron-james-career-scoring-statistics/4060201002/

What bollocks!. He's top ten in only points and assists, does that count for "most"? By the way, Olajuwon retired top 11 in 4 categories, but nobody is running all over the place discussing his GOATness. You better get your facts and conclusions right before you come here. And stop bringing up death matters. What were you thinking, en? It would be cruel and purposeless to discuss such a matter. And who is belittling his achievements? Has anyone ever argued that he's not an all-time great? While some consider him top ten, some even consider him top 2. Do you even understand what's going on? Do you even understand what respect means? If one of his teammates is doing as much as he is doing, are we not allowed to discuss it? In fact for others here that are not Lesexuals, the only time we bump Lebron down is in comparison with the GOAT. grin. Nobody says he's not an all-time great, just not the GOAT.
