Mystery 1:
So my child will be a british citizen if born in londonhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuhhuh??

Need an explanation plsss
Sorry for the long-winded reply;

If either you or the dad is a citizen or has settled status, your child is a British citizen at birth.

If your child was born between 1st Jan 1983 and 1st Jul 2006, the dad (if he is the citizen) has to be married to the mum, but if the mum is the citizen, she does not have to be married to the dad. If the child was born after 1st July 2006, there is no need for the parents to be married.

If none of you is a citizen or has settled status, i.e. you are here to work, study, visit, entered illegally or in breach of any immigration laws, your child is not a British citizen at birth. The child would have the rights to registration as a British citizen if the child lives in the country continuosly for 10 years or if the either or both of the parents gets settled status before the child gets to the age of 18.

If your child is over 18, he/she would have to apply for naturalisation.

CONTRADICTON 1

VOR:
Big bumper,
. . .  As I stated earlier it was this act which took away the right to automatic citizenship by birth
regardless of your parentage on 01/01/1983.
If this is true, so why was your answer to Akolawole's poser

VOR:
Ako
1. Maget becomes a British citizen at birth.
CONTRADICTION 2

VOR:
Assuming this scenario happened post 01/07/06
the baby would be a UK national and therefore no need for any kind of settlement visa. She is in
effect not subject to immigration control.
Flip side of the quote above: Assuming this scenario happened pre 01/7/06, the baby would not be a UK national and would therefore need a kind of settlement visa. She is in effect subject to immigration control. (I stand to be corrected)

CONTRADICTION 3

VOR:
1. Surely you must know that until the enactment and coming into force of the 1981 act
anyone born in the UK (except for some limited exceptions) was automatically a UK citizen.

2, . . Assuming this scenario happened post 01/07/06
the baby would be a UK national and therefore no need for any kind of settlement visa. She is in
effect not subject to immigration control.
Numbers 1 and 2 in the above statement clearly implies that people born before the 1981 act enacted in 1983 and people born post 01/07/06 are UK citizen/Uk natioanals, what is the status accorded to someone born between this period which is between 1983 and 2006?

VOR:
Ako
1. Maget becomes a British citizen at birth.
If Maggie had the same automatic right as number 1 and 2 in your quote above, why did the law bother to change again in 2006? Why fix something that ain't broke?

VOR:
2. Can't see how I have contradicted myself here.
You are O.Y.O, as Mr Pataki would say.

You only need to be slightly concerned if you intend to travel to America if:

Statement 1

why?
How did/How does

Statement 2

1. Maget becomes a British citizen at birth.
VOR:
3. I can't see any contradiction in law, although there would be no requirement for the baby to apply for a settlement visa since she is a British citizen.

Maybe any man that get this correctly will INHERIT all ladies in travel and vice versa grin
no be ya fault grin, but jeez, you wicked small o, my head dey hurt like . . .

Nah, I'm definitely with Akolawole on this one. Because Maggie was born before 1st of July 2006, she did not gain automatic citizenship by birth because her dad was unmarried at the time of her birth, but by virtue of daddy marrying her mum a few months after she was born. She became a legitimate child, and hence qualified for British citizenship by descent, after application from her, now married daddy.

On the other hand, post 1st Jan 1983, if it was her mum that was the British citizen or had settled status, she would have automatically become a citizen, whether her mum was married or not. And this was the reason the new law was introduced on the 1st of Jul 2006, to comply with equality law and give all fathers the same right as all mothers.

Britain used to be a country of high moral once, you know?  wink

Okay, Methuselah, I concede, put us out of the mystery abeg.
