British Airways has said it regrets the March 27 incident, which led to the maltreatment of over 130 Nigerians on-board its London-Lagos flight.

The airline’s spokesman, Mr. Ademola Adedoyin, who said this in a statement on Thursday, said that the decision, which led to the incident, was taken in the interest of safety, and that it was not meant to maltreat the Nigerian passengers.

He said, “We regret the upset that the events onboard the BA75 to Lagos on March 27 have caused in Nigeria. We have made it clear that the decision to offload passengers was made in consultation with and on the advice of the UK police, and the sole aim of this decision was to ensure the safety of our passengers, aircraft and crew.

“Offloading passengers is not a decision that is taken lightly and is a rare occurrence. However, the disturbance on board the BA75 service to Lagos on Thursday, March 27, was a very serious incident, which required the presence of 20 uniformed police officers to regain control of the situation.”

He said that given the level of disruption on board the plane as it was preparing to depart, it was not possible to pinpoint which passengers were the most involved.

[b]He said the crew members were subjected to both verbal abuse and physical assault which, in the confined space of an aircraft, could be a particularly serious issue.[/b]Meanwhile, Virgin Nigeria has been listed on the International Air Transport Association Operational Safety Audit Directory, the global benchmark that measures airlines’ level of compliance to safety standard.

A statement by the airline’s Media Relations Manager, Mr. Sam Ogbogoro, noted that Virgin Nigeria emerged the first West African airline to pass the highly coveted certification following its successful completion of the intensive International Air Transport Association’s safety audit.

He said, “Virgin Nigeria is the first Nigerian airline and first West African carrier to be listed on the IOSA Directory.By this listing, Virgin Nigeria has been placed at par with the best airlines in the world having shown its commitment and demonstration to airline safety standards.”

i met deji in dec 2006 when i went for a wedding some how we started hanging out together,till 1st week in jan when he travelled out of the country. he kept calling and started to ask me out and in mid feb i decided to go out with him.
his call was regular and i also kept in touch. in feb i got a job with the federal govt and d rule was that havin joined them in mid feb, i wont be paid till 1st wk in april of which i was deployed to ibadan where i had no relatives and i had to survive rent a place buy things 4 myself ,being that my father is a pensioner and mum is a teacher,so[b] i told deji d whole thing and i asked him to render any assistance in monetary value[/b]. he kept promising me that he would send his bro to give me money ,he kept posting me until finally i was paid my salary.  then i told him that i didnt need his money again and that i was no more interested in d relationship out of anger, but aft some days i called to say i was sorry i didnt mean to act irrational.

apparently when i asked him 4 money his calls reduced so when we settled our rift his call drastically dropped.each time he called me, he sounded like a friend and not a boyfriend. he cld ask when last did i kiss and when i said i had not kissed anyone since he left, he would say that is so boring. 

in our relationship, when there was a cramp and he swiches off, i am always d one to always tell him how to resolve issues withladies.

in dec i decided to date a guy i meet while i was serving in 2006,he had been askin me out i know he loves so dearly thou i like,i had d intention to introduce him to my parents later this month but all of a sudden i got a call on fri from deji,thou he called me once in jan and also in feb telling me that he was to come home in march for his sis weddin,telling me that he just got to d country last thurs. i did see him on sat,he was apologisin sayin that it was work that kept him busy he has been begging 4 a come back said he wants to marry bla bla bla. i still like him and am scared of hurtin d other guy who loves me unconditionally.but i don't know if deji is for real because i wont want to loose at both end as husband is scarce.

If you are going to be in Surulere, I will recommend a joint on Adeniran Ogunsanya street. Just directly opposite Sweet Sensation by the roadside. Her buka joint is Mama Blessing, you will get very cheap quality food with ewa agoyin if you so desire as well.

A bottle of chilled fanta or coke (Orobo) will go down with it also. If na Hennesy, barcardi you wan take with am, there is Delta Kitchen just immediately after mama blessing joint on the same street. If na pure water, just order for one. . . . There is orobo pure water as well. . . .   Or if it is Sepe, akpetishi, opa eyin stabilizer, you want, contact me in person.

If you happen to be in Abeokuta, I will recommend mama agips inside Ibara Housing estate, you will get the best of rice and ata dindin at its best. Or if it is ofada rice with correct ata dindin as well try this Joint in Oke-Ilewo called Madojitimi restuarant.

If you are in Ibadan. . . . . . that one get more than enough. . . . . .

Its funny that people would like to compare a very small city like London  to New York. One is ancient and the other is modern. Both are international financial hubs and I wouldnt exchange the Georgian and Victorian relics of London for the suburbs of Bronx,Brookly,Queens and Harlem (and don't forget Babylon-oh yes o, there is North and West Babylon in New York)

The average bigtime US businessman in US makes his money in UK.During the Hurricane Katherina incident 90% of the US reinsurance was hedged in the UK.

I would chose New York to go and shop for bargains and bulk purchases with my superior spending power but I still prefer London for their sound education system, hustle and bustle on the trains/buses, instant money transfer (to Nigeria) outlets , unlimited choice of African foodstuff at Hackney,Brixton,Finsbury Park,Upton Park and Peckham Rye markets, and for the sound financial system that does not allow aspiring NINJA* applicants to become Home owners.

*NINJA=an acronym for No Income,No Job or Assets

Me too I wan go sample all these joints o, because I no get anyone to bring suya and smoked fowl and snails for me anymore since the ban. I did not 'drag' Nigeria into anything. In case it was lost on you This is a 'Nigerian' board frequented by 'Nigerians' and so if someone starts a thread about 'Nigerians' abroad being 2nd class citizens then it is only a matter of time before someone starts talking about citizenship in Nigeria.

Citizenship is all about how people are able to exercise their basic political rights around the world and especially in their own countries. In regards to the picture I posted, it is clearly obvious that there is a class issue at hand but the fact that the 'servant' was not even able to exercise his right to object to Dare posting his pic online clearly shows that his citizenship is not perhaps seen as the same level of as Dare's.

If this servant had wanted to bring a lawsuit against Dare, would he be able to exercise his right as a citizen to do so? No, but in America or Britain he would have regardless of colour or race.

So all of you people screaming about how you are first class citizens in Nigeria, think about what you are able to do in Nigeria as a so-called first class citizen before you start looking at other countries. In Nigeria, ones political and basic rights are abused every day like this 'Servant'; the reason why many of you continue to run out of the country in droves.

Further more Big Oga, did not even see fit to buy the man a decent bed, despite this man being a Nigerian citizen in Nigeria, never mind a human being like Big Oga himself.

First class citizen!  My Fada has money!

One can surely imagine the uproar that would follow if people like the Bush Twins or Prince William and Harry took pictures of the servants in The White House or Buckingham Palace to show off on their personal web sites, never mind if the Servants looked as pitiful as the one above. Of course that would be unheard off but in Nigeria if you if you are the offspring of a Big Oga then one can basically get away with murder.

A society where one is considered less than human, never mind a citizen in any class, because one doesn’t have the right amount of money, is a society that needs a drastic revolution before it can progress.

Please stop worrying about the class of citizenship in other countries and sort out your own first.

If you must know class does not determine how one is treated as a citizen in their own country but in Nigeria it does.

The richest man in Britain does not speak like the Queen and I am sure that their palates are not the same either and he would be considered an upper class, as would his children. However, someone like me would have the same right as his children because we both have the same citizenship. Anyone can adopt a certain type of etiquette and claim to be of a certain class, as class, whether it be upper, middle or lower is not an official designation like citizenship.

Class and citizenship are two different entities and every citizen in Britain, America and most western nations can freely exercise this right regardless of whatever class or colour they are considered to be. Can you say the same for Nigerians?. . . . no!

That is why a teacher can be beaten and burnt to death by her students. If that teacher had been a rich person's daughter or wife, the killers would have been rounded up and put in front of a firing squad.


That is why Big Bully Dare Obasanjo can boldly walk into the room of another grown man without permission, snap his picture and publish it on the world wide web for all and sundry to see.

You guys are just making a huge mountain out of a mole hill? The simple question was define a second class citizen. And instead everyone started feeling insecure. Kokscity: monister has defined it for you i hope you're satisfied. Personally i think the term second class citizen was coined for immigrants who were not allowed priviledges of voting,state scholarships and stuff like that. Especially illegal immigrants. Thats my thought sha, i hope it helps.
