Please is it possible for one to travel to Uk like first week of February with a Nigerian Passport due to expire in March, 2023? Though new passport is in processing but was told it could take upto 6 weeks before it’ll be ready.

I think you should discuss this with them. I've read of some students getting full time jobs with NHS but temporarily restricted to 20 hrs until when they can do full time. At other times they get sponsored at the end of their studies based on performance.

Just discuss this with your hiring manager and see what s/he says or suggest.

But hope you know that back then, most of the Au pairs came from other parts of Europe - Eastern Europe especially and most were not legally documented hence it went unnoticed and more especially with UK still in the EU then. Don't do something that would make you Ekweremadu's neighbour oo

I dont know where you driving at. I know people who have operated this for the past 10yrs. They usually get an employment solicitor to draft the agreement required. Its more or less like an Au-pair program which allows people legally earn below minimum wage. I would have posted the link but i dont want nairaland axe but below is a snapshot of what the average earning of aupairs look like - feel free to verify if you want. There are people who are actually looking for opportunities like this, may seem exploitative on the outside but this is certainly not the intent. Plus i really cannot afford a full time nanny hence i am going for this. THe only reason i am not going via an aupair agencies is because the earliest they say they could get someone was in May but i want someone quicker.

This is crazy - I mean if he is managing a research project, he should be covered enough to afford to pay his rent I only hope he's not using sob stories to his advantage ...its bad

The total package is surely above minimum wage and i will explain.
As a full time nanny (7-days a week), maxiumum you can work is 8hrs/day and with minumum wage of 10£/hr gives you 2400£/month before tax and 1900£ after taxes. Accomodation & all utilities averagely 900£, feeding,Wifi Internet/mobile and other household expenses is averagely 600£. Hence if i pay extra 400£, i am matching the minimum wage already. Mind you, i didnt include cost of transportation, etc that would be saved when working a full time nanny.

Why was he chucked off his accommodation?

In other news, I’ve just seen on BBC Scotland news a Nigerian guy called Henry Okwo who was chucked out of his house in Glasgow last week. He ended up in the stairwell with his 3 young children and wife for 12 hours and this was during last week’s freezing temperatures. He is a student at Strathclyde university and is in the process of claiming asylum for ‘torture’ which I find a bit odd. He is a PhD holder and lead researcher for some project. They’ve now been put up in a hotel by a charity in Glasgow pending being re-homed by the Council. The guy is in the news to raise awareness about systemic maltreatment of asylum seekers.
