How can you not anticipate challenges when we all know Nigerians are last minute adherents to instructions and directives . How long did it take Nigerians to register for their BVN or NIN or re-register their mobile lines? Dey play cheesy

How much is the AirBnB you are seeing? You might need to choose one away from the city centre to reduce the cost

Please I need help in getting a temporary Accomodation in Glasgow. The Airbnb I’ve been seeing are expensive. Also, how do I go about getting a 1 room for myself and partner that doesn’t share bathroom but rather with a private bathroom.

Can you advise me on transportation to book from London(Heathrow airport) to Glasgow. Arrival time is around 4:30pm. I saw British Airways for 9:00pm but they won’t allow me carry the full luggage(23kg*2) except for business class which is costly.

Thank you

What date did you apply for renewal? I guess they are trying to protect themselves because it could work against them. Still try and put up a defence. I'm sure you will be fine.

rollykotex:
Hi all, I just need some advice from experienced people in the house. My visa expired on the 30th of January 2023. I have applied for a renewal which is not out yet my biometrics is in the 9th of February. I told my employer on the 30th of January that my visa was expiring that day but I have submitted another application.
Naso wahala start. Calls from head office HR, that I currently don’t have visa and cannot work. They immediately put me on leave without pay starting from 31st until visa is sorted. I gave the HR my application reference number for them to carry out chef themselves, them no gree. Meanwhile I was the one that informed my manager just to be safe. It was not as if they reached out first that my visa was about to expire.
The latest one now is that they set up disciplinary action against me that I don’t have papers to work in the UK. I’m confused because everything just went out of proportion. The email I got says I can attend with a trade union or a work colleague and that it might lead to immediate dismissal and all.
I just need heads up on how to tackle this and if I really need to take someone with me for the disciplinary action.
Thank you all.

Unfortunately, Japa created another side hustle for many already in the abroad to exploit those desperately trying to leave ...this is what we are seeing now. One has to be very careful to discern the good from the bad.

lightnlife:
Oops! Sorry you had such an experience.

The BA School run by Eno Eka is more fixated on optics and revenue than delivering value.

I once attended one of her sessions and all I could see was hype, motivation and a marketing scheme to get more money from students. I've had to unsubscribe from their mailing list after they bombarded me with tons of promotional content.

Regardless of your pathway - IIBA or BCS - you can self-study and ace the exams but the bigger challenge will be accessing the job market on a personal pedestal. However, this won't be much of an issue if you're looking to transition into a BA role within your current company. Either way, nothing is impossible, might just be difficult initially.

For IIBA's CBAP, you can buy the Udemy course by Ciel Academy. Engaging lectures delivered by a Nigerian, Obalim. For BCS, you can self-study as well or register with Twim Institute, a BCS-accredited academy in Nigeria.

I recently saw posts from Advance Care UK. It somewhat akin to High Impact Hub. See their poster below.

If person 2500 pound and e no get job after 2/3 months, no be gbege be that?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by bigtt76(f): 10:28pm On Feb 03, 2023
These guys will only hype their courses, bring their croonies to come deliver lectures you can get cheaply from Udemy or Internet and at the end of the day its still up to you to get placement. ...try them though if you can afford it

dustydee:
Please share the one you used.
I have attended info sessions with high impact and I think they are legit. I personally rate some of these Nigerian trainings higher than some in the UK because they tend to focus on getting the job especially with the rise of remote working. I may go for a BA with them in the next cohort if I don't get the position I desire.

Hello Mentors,

I got an offer with a top Engineering and Management consulting firm, with a start date of 11th September 2023.

They said they need to switch me to a skilled worker visa prior to my starting date.

I just got a mail this morning, to submit all the necessary documents, that they will proceed with the visa application immediately.

I started my MSc last year September so I will be graduating this September which is still 7-8months ahead.

My question are:
1) Should I proceed with the application now or wait till closer to my course end date ?

2) They said they will cover the cost of visa fee but I'm expected to pay the IHS fee myself which is currently £625 x no of years ( however, they included a caveat that if I should inform them if I can't afford it) should I go ahead and informed them that I cannot afford it, will they offer to pay it on my behalf ?

3) My current student visa will expire 30th January 2024, which means I still have about 1year of IHS surcharge left. Will this be transferred or can I claim it back?

Why cancel the application? I'm curious 🤷🏿‍♀️

mayluv:
Hello house, I hope we are all good.
I am in a dicey situation and need some input from those who have more knowledge and information than I do.
I applied for a two year visitor visa for my mum that will expire December this year. She came in December 2021. While here, she was taking treatment at the General hospital as a private patient. In June 2022 when her six month visit was almost complete, I applied for extension of stay through the FLR/HRO route so she could complete her treatment. She did biometrics in London and her passport was held back at the biometric center. Since then, no decision has been made and the passport hasn't been returned.
In December 2022, I cancelled the application on gov.uk and according to the information there, I would get the passport in 10 working days. Its over the 10 days and I have even filled the online complaint form twice, still no response. I can't get through as the contact number is for general inquiries and only get computer responses.
When I was cancelling the application, they stated that she becomes an overstayer from the date of cancellation but they haven't returned her passport still. What can I do?

Thanks in advance.

D1uncle:
Hello, how did you go about the address thing. I cannot find a way to impute Nigerian address. And I still can't register with clearscore because they required 3years UK address. Is there something I am doing wrong?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by bigtt76(f): 6:24pm On Jan 29, 2023
On expiration of the 2 years post study visa, you have to switch to another visa category - usually skilled worker visa which would require sponsorship from an employer.

No it does not count towards your 5 year ILR route through employment in the UK but rather towards your 10 years ILR route via Education in the UK meaning you can decide to go back and study a course which shows progression to your earlier degree.

I hope this helps.

Focus99:
Gurus in the house help my confusion please😂

As a student on a tier 4 visa you can decide to switch, get the CoS and start counting 5yrs towards ILR (permanent residence) OR you can decide to finish from the school, pay £2000 to get 2yrs Pgwp. Here is were my confusion lies omo

So let's say I decided to finish my school, get my 2yrs pgwp and luckily for me I got a job (permanent role)

1) will I still be needing CoS since I got a permanent job role?

2) will I start counting 5yrs for my ILR since I got a permanent job role or will have to apply for ILR immediately I got the permanent job role?

PoliticsRe: Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (LP Lagos Governorship Candidate) Engagement Thread by bigtt76(f): 8:11pm On Jan 26, 2023
My question GRV

1. The main issues affecting the people of Lagos State are
a. Access to good housing
b. Access to good roads
c. Access to good pipe borne water
d. Access to good health care
e. Access to quality transport system
f. Security of lives and properties

How do you intend to solve this during your first term in office?

2. We can't pretend that post-election violence or opposition won't rear its ugly heads, how do you intend to manage the opposition that would try to thwart your effort after being elected to office?

3. What would likely be your composition of your team among the young professionals, elders, youth and gender mix etc?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by bigtt76(f): 8:28am On Jan 26, 2023

TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by bigtt76(f): 12:16am On Jan 26, 2023
Depending on your visa type - visitor's visa holders might find it difficult compared to a skilled worker or study visa. Why the rush? undecided

I think you should discuss this with them. I've read of some students getting full time jobs with NHS but temporarily restricted to 20 hrs until when they can do full time. At other times they get sponsored at the end of their studies based on performance.

Just discuss this with your hiring manager and see what s/he says or suggest.

But hope you know that back then, most of the Au pairs came from other parts of Europe - Eastern Europe especially and most were not legally documented hence it went unnoticed and more especially with UK still in the EU then. Don't do something that would make you Ekweremadu's neighbour oo cheesy

geekseventplace:
I dont know where you driving at. I know people who have operated this for the past 10yrs. They usually get an employment solicitor to draft the agreement required. Its more or less like an Au-pair program which allows people legally earn below minimum wage. I would have posted the link but i dont want nairaland axe grin but below is a snapshot of what the average earning of aupairs look like - feel free to verify if you want. There are people who are actually looking for opportunities like this, may seem exploitative on the outside but this is certainly not the intent. Plus i really cannot afford a full time nanny hence i am going for this. THe only reason i am not going via an aupair agencies is because the earliest they say they could get someone was in May but i want someone quicker.
