PoliticsRe: Sins Of A Billionaire!  how Tinubu Stopped Dangote From Defrauding Nigeria To F by bjdon: 3:17pm On Nov 30, 2023
In Nigeria even crooks can do the right thing sometimes.

Abacha was a crook, yet it's well know that during his tenure many people had to toe the line. When the Merchant Banks crashed in the 90's all the owners were banned from travelling out of the country. Some tried to lobby Abacha, but they were all rebuffed until monies owed were repaid.
Dangote has been benefiting from monopolistic practices for a long time, and if Tinubu is able to deal with him, that will be a massive plus
PoliticsRe: Lagos (eko) Belongs To Us by bjdon: 10:22am On Nov 30, 2023
OP Please stop this nonsense. I am a Bini man, and now Bini is claiming ownership of Lagos. All our great Oba has said is that historically the center of Lagos which we named EKO was created by the Binis.
Lagos today 100% belongs to the Yoruba and nobody is disputing that.
Yoruba and Bini are close by history and traditions and we should not let any misunderstandings divide us
PoliticsRe: Lagos State Tackles Oba Of Benin, advises Him to Learn by bjdon: 11:49am On Nov 28, 2023
Can we just make something crystal clear. The oba of Benin NEVER said Lagos belongs to the Binis. He simply said the Binis founded Lagos. This is a historical fact. Lagos today belongs to the Yoruba's 100% and nobody is disputing that.

If I can give you a comparison in Europe. The city of London in the UK was actually created by Romans and was called Londonium. Prior to that York used to be the capital of England. The Romans made London the capital. That is a historical fact, and of course it dose not mean that today London belongs to the Italy. There are many other examples like this.

Closer to home Ilorin would be another example. A city that was clearly founded by Yourba's but today is ruled by the Fulani.

Lagos is a Yoruba city today, and nobody (At least nobody from Edo) is contesting that.

Commissiona:
River state situation is not going to be business as usual, Wike is has alot of experience, that is evident in him purchasing Electoral Forms to all the local government chairmen and House of Assembly members. Wike also has a good leadership base of the local governments in the state. I don't know much about Fubura as a politician hitherto, but I don't think he has a good support base aside tribal support which cannot withstand turbulence from a formidable personality of Wike class. Fubura should stop ' testing the microphone at the start of the party ' and learn the dancing antics for now if he wants peace in the state.
All this is just talk. As long as Fubura has sufficient members of the House of assembly to prevent impechment, like Obaseki did, then he's can wage full and total political war against Wike. Obaseki and others have shown the way to do it. The idea that you can be dictating the affairs of a state from Abuja is a big joke. It will never work. Amachi served it to Odili, Wike served it to Amachi and now Fubura will serve it to Wike
PoliticsRe: Goodluck Jonathan Visits Ganduje, APC National Chairman (Pictures) by bjdon: 2:06pm On Nov 24, 2023
Kukutenla:
Is it not obvious that he's paying Ganduje a visit in connection with the Bayelsa gubernatorial? Dayo Israel was wailing the other day about how APC is being outgunned in the polls and he ended up sounding like an orphan. It is obvious that's the background to this visit. It just shows how GEJ's chosen to ridicule himself all for pwr and relevance
Quite sad. GEJ should really be above all this, and should instead be focusing on international politics in terms of peace keeping and conflict resolution
PoliticsRe: Goodluck Jonathan Visits Ganduje, APC National Chairman (Pictures) by bjdon: 12:12pm On Nov 24, 2023
I generally like GEJ for the way he conducted himself in 2015, but he has disrespected himself here. He is a former president of the Federal republic of Nigeria, the only people he should be going to see are fellow ex presidents, anyone else should come and see him. I hope his protocol advisors can have a word with him, to avoid such in future.
PoliticsRe: *Obaseki In China At The 10th Anniversary Of The Berth And Road Economic Initiat by bjdon: 12:29pm On Nov 23, 2023
As an economist and investment banker Obaseki has implemented sound fiscal policies that have put the state in a very good position. You don't hear of things like pensioners not being paid of civil servants salaries delayed in Edo State.
However he's not performed do well on basic infrastructure, especially roads.
All in all, I would say he's tenure has been a success, considering the amount of energy and resources he needed to deploy to get re-elected against the wishes of Oshimoloe and Tinubu.
Edo no be Lagos!

Foreign AffairsRe: Israel-hamas War: Ceasefire To Be Announced In Coming Hours – Hamas Official by bjdon: 5:29pm On Nov 21, 2023
God1000:
Good news, too many innocent people have died.

It appears netanyahu government is finally bowing to international pressure, though we need more than 5 days of truce.

We need a complete cessation of hostilities, Israel should not expand military offensive into southern Gaza where it has told civilians to take shelter because they are planning to do so.

I have no problem with any country fighting a terror war, but it becomes an issue if you end up killing tens of thousands of civilians and not the actual terrorists you claim to be fighting and then disregard international humanitarian law by cutting food, water, fuel and electricity to civilian population

such collective punishment is evil and it's against christian values.

To my fellow christian brothers and sisters support the genocide, where is your good heart?
Your sentiments are noble, but it takes 2 sides to make peace in any conflict. Hamas don't want peace. They only want a ceasefire in order to regroup and strike again
PoliticsRe: Famous Buharist And Tinubu Supporter Posh Mama Is Dead. by bjdon: 4:56pm On Nov 21, 2023

As usual people wil come and attack the person of the govenor, instead of taking crtical heed of his message. He warned in the past about many of the problems we are currently facing, but nobody listned.
Nigeria has a CRTICAL problem in how it functions. This centralized model of states and LGs sharing money every month is totally untenable. The country needs to be re-structured so that the states and LGs become fisically autonomous. Let all the sub nationals raise revenue by taxation and invesments. This will force them to be much more accountable to their people
PoliticsRe: Kinsmen Endorse Shaibu For Edo Governorship by bjdon: 6:34pm On Nov 16, 2023
There must be a special madness that aflcits some public office holders. Maybe they just loot so much money, that they don't mind when they waste it.
Even a 5 year old in Edo state knows there is NO WAY Philip can become governor next year. He can't even carry the whole Edo North as he's from the same area as Comrade, and the other areas will rebel, not to talk of Edo South and Central

I don't believe in zoning, but there's got to be fairness. The same village can't produce 2 governors when a whole zone, the central is yet to produce a governor. I am a Bini and we have produced 2 governors, so time for us to rest. Let the central have their turn. Ambrose Ali was a good governor, and Osunbor showed sound judgement in the short time he was there.
PoliticsRe: Why We Should Stop Shaming Yorubas For Outcome Of The 2023 General Election by bjdon: 6:55pm On Nov 15, 2023
realG101:
I have observed a trend recently on the internet and especially on nairaland and I believe it will help us all a great deal if we refrain from the trend and get more clarity.

Let's call a spade a spade. That nigeria's affairs are in the hands of tinubu right now is not because yoruba people voted based on tribal sentiment.

It is because as usual there was massive rigging perpetrated by the inec as a result of corruption and impunity in the system. This is just one leg of it.

The second reason is that, as far as elections are concerned, the nigeria police and judiciary have always acted as arms of the ruling party at any given time.

That said, one problem that Nigerians have is that we have this habit of relegating real issues and hopping on trivial ones. We get carried away in the process and even begin to fight ourselves on tribal or religious basis while the real enemy continues to do more damage.

It's not further math. If all the yorubas (SW) voted for tinubu and all the igbos (SE) and SS voted for obi, obi would have out performed tinubu in a free and fair election.

This tells us that tribal voting wasn't the big factor in tinubu's victory, it was electoral malpractice.

See all that energy we expend dragging and cursing people who allegedly voted tinubu on tribal basis, let us channel it towards re-examing how events unfolded during the last general election, which loopholes inec and apc exploited for their rigging game and let us brainstorm on how to be prepared to beat them to the game by bridging those loopholes next election.

I can assure you that if we continue trading blames over who didn't vote for the right candidate and refuse to talk about the real issues, 2027 election will also come and go and the story will remain the same.

I'm sure those who didn't apply wisdom in voting during the general election are regreting already. We don't really need to over flog the issue.

The post election tribal war on the internet is even a threat to sensible voting in subsequent elections so let's nip it in the bud.

God bless Nigeria.
This is without doubt the most brainless article I've read on NL this year.
The SW voted for Tinubu in massive numbers
Muslims across Nigeria voted for Tinubu in massive numbers
Both of these blocks voted on ethnic and religous grounds
That is the simple fact.
In all honesty it's not totally wrong to have some form of ethnic consideration in how you vote, but when voting for a president, even if ethnicity is one of the considerations, other factors like competence and integrity must also come in.
Both Buhari and Tinubu are totally unqualified to be president of a nation like Nigeria and yet both have been. It's the poor masses who continue to make the same mistake and continue to suffer the same fate

Ask the idf how many hamas fighters it has to kill to stop rockets being fired into israel. Despite the utter destruction of parts of gaza, esp civilian areas, and killing over 11k palestinians,
Hamas still has the capabilities of firing rockets even into central israel. So, what does that tell you?
The war has just started now. Let's see how many rockets Hamas will be firing in 3 months time

Nairaland GeneralRe: Inflation: Which Item's Price Surprises You? by bjdon: 7:48pm On Nov 13, 2023
DKM123:
Do you mean the inflation within the past one or two weeks? It's not surprising na. Prices have been rising every week since Timnubu came in May.

The one that surprises me more is the change from 7k for a bag of rice during Jonathan PDP time to 58k for the same rice during APC leadership,

A rubber of garri from #180 during Jonathan to 1500 during APC change ...

Indomie of #50 in PDP to #450 under APC rule.

Gas of #2500 for 12kg during PDP to #13,000k during APC changeee....

Etc etc

The only thing that hasn't changed since then is minimum wage...

Another SUPRISE is that Nigerians (from students to the highest technocrats) have CHANGED from fiery "Aluta" proponents (who DEMANDED thier rights from thier leaders even during the rugged military regime)............TO laidback-docile-mumu-suffering and smiling proponents who hail and defend their tormentors. Even musicians no longer sing about "struggle and redemption".

It's surprising how APC done CHANGE Nigerians to z0mbie and just dey carry dem go where dem no know.....
My own theory on this is that social media has roasted people's brains so a lot of people are effectively zombies
The young would rather read and follow who Davido is breeding with, than plan on how to oppose those that are oppressing them.

FamilyRe: Leaving My Wife And Kids To Travel Abroad by bjdon: 4:01pm On Nov 10, 2023
Fountainofyouth:
Tourist visa of what, 6 months? And after that you'll become a illegal immigrant? Why do you people like to invite problems for yourselves? Why can't you go there the right way legally then invite your family and live happily ever after? You want to become an illegal that will always stay under the radar so as not to be detected and deported, spending decades without physically seeing your family then expect your wife to remain faithful and loyal while you do countless shenanigans over there,

Oga stay in naija and hustle, you are not ripe to travel out yet.
Bless you!
I can't believe there are still people like the OP who think like this. If you are illegal in any European country, it'll take you MANY years to get yourself sorted out. There are people for example in the UK, that have been here for over 10 years and are still not settled.
You better bet is to send your wife over to somewhere like the UK that has a large Nigerian community. If she comes on a 6 month visitor visa, she can do childminding/hair dressing within the Nigerian community as long as she does not stay the whole 6 months (maybe does 4-5 months) she'll always get another visa. That way she can be earning the FX sending to you for the business. Hopefully she would only have to it once or twice to generate enough for your business to take off again.

Our time will come in the north.

At this point we should hope for good leaders wherever they are from. Buhari was a northerner yet more northerners died from insecurity under his watch than at any other time since independence.

Tinubu is a southerner yet the whole south is groaning under the pains of his economic mis-management.
