Dejavu31:I don't know if things have changed. My sister used a foreign bank account to apply for her Student visa and there was no issues. I had mine in GBP in a domiciliary account in Nigeria. But that was eons ago. I don't know if rules have changed. |
@OP, you made a mistake. You should have told her "you smell nice". Mtschew. |
Ask your mum to reduce her visits to once every 2 weeks and give your wife space to breathe. For your wife, you are going to have to put your foot down regardless of it being against your nature. You have to be firm here since you have reasoned with her and it hasn't worked. Firmly tell her that she has to shape up as you won't stand for her disrespect anymore. Your mum has agreed to come only once in 2 weeks and she must try and get along with her. You have to give her an ultimatum and stand by it. Your wife has to try as your mum will always be in your lives. You have to be firm on both women o. Peacemaker will not work here. Your mum has to give you guys space. Every weekend is way too much. Your wife has to be friends with your mum or was she just pretending so as to get married? |
I like the book. It's very tastefully done and gives just definitions. Stop stigmatizing people based on their sexual preference. If you don't like people of the same gender, leave those who do. The book only provides definitions and does not force anyone to become what they are not. People will experiment if they want to. Don't let people fake a sexual orientation that isn't them. |
OiOi:Your essay was different. Had some dark humour, quite interesting. I feel that people will not always get you or your wit. Reminds me a lot of the kind of stories I used to write eons ago. Keep being you and have fun while at it. |
Ibra010:I wish you good fortune in your quest. I have no idea of vacancies in the medical field. |
Ibra010:Was that really your essay as in not plagiarized? I like the way you think. |
conyema12:If you allow her to stay with you and start school, please accept that in the Nigerian context, you have adopted her. I doubt she will be leaving to anywhere regardless of whatever agreement is signed. Also think about it that your BIL might start to evade his financial responsibilities which will then be yours as you can't treat her differently from your kids after all, you've adopted her. ![]() Why can't your wife's parents take care of the kid? If they are retired, they should have even more time. Or he should try to mend fences with his MIL and ask her to take care of his kid. For you, don't start what you will find hard to finish. Adopting a child is a big responsibility especially if you see your BIL living his life without a care in the world. You might start to simmer in resentment. |
So the girl's grandmother wants to care for her grandchild, understandable. Why are they trying to force her on you guys instead of someone who wants to take care of her? Can't her dad work out some arrangement with his MIL so that he gets to visit her on occasion as he obviously doesn't want to take on her care. It's called being a dog in a manger. |
Looks more like an Angwantibo or potto. I'm leaning towards the former. I know they are indigenous to Africa. |
Someone mentioned same. That Punch used the wrong picture. @lalasticlala, please update the front page with the right info |
The FIL has been eating poundo yam even with the maid around but now wants to eat yam pounded by his SIL. I don't even understand. If the maid travelled the day before, he cannot rest from the yam till she returns? |
thesolutions:I can tell you for free that each branch manager/ undertaking/ whatever name they want to call it receives money to run their branches. They call it unbundling. That is why you will see some branches looking better than others. Those ones will even try to maintain a few things. The rest share it amongst the ogas and chop the money. That is the bureaucracy of civil service. I am referring to maintenance not capital expenditure. Capital expenses need to go through the normal approval process. After i did one consulting job that had to do with some govt agencies, i knew that Nigeria can never rise because the rot is is so deep and widespread. All these civil servants shouting govt this and that are part of the problem. |
The manager receives the money to run the branch. He can decide to pocket everything and let the place go to hell or use a portion to repair the facility. Guess which he will go for? We need to start doing things the right way. |
I won't lie, cooking is something i wish i can delegate. If i find out he is collecting lunch and still stressing me to make lunch for our kid, we go quarrel. I will ask him to collect for all of us and we will be sending mummy money to buy groceries. That will free up my time for things i feel are important to me. Anytime i visit my mum/MIL, i pack enough soup that will last us 1 week and they always have fresh soup waiting for me. More than enough incentive to visit very often. |
muyoge:What? ![]() |
Digmygold:You're right. I apologise. |
Maximus69:Saying same things. Christian's cannot be soldiers or president seeing as you cannot be commander in chief if you will not be able to go give the command to go to war. This is according to you. |
Sack, hire and promote that is a normal business cycle. |
Maximus69:So you are a pacifist? You cannot be president and be a pacifist. Someone has to shoot the gun and someone has to give the order to shoot the gun. That's why we are grateful to the soldiers who guard our borders and fight insurgency. |
DaBullIT:Not from Buhari but from the Shiites in Nigeria. Buhari is Sunni. |
ubunja:It's a pity the women in your family showed such bad examples. They shouldn't be a standard. |
Expect more of these kind of stories till they remove fuel subsidy and the money gets diverted into govt officials pockets. |
MycroftHolmes:He was worse and not very strategic if I might add. I wonder what would have happened if Hitler had been stopped before he became the raging bull that he was. I actually support Trump on this as should students of Iranian actions. The man was a ticking bomb and I'm glad Trump has the balls to do what needed to be done. |
Interesting turn of events. i thought as much. I wonder if @tobyecole will return to let us know that he made a mistake. I am pretty certain that if Mama Lekan was same as the op, he would have returned to let us know how they sent her packing from her husband's house. |
mvem:Depends on how you spin the narrative. Jonathan for sure signed an anti-gay bill. They now painted the repented general as progressive, etc etc. Have you forgotten the media campaign before the first election? You would think that Buhari was an angel from heaven. Don't forget they had those influencers from Washington that they hired to show them how to get on Obama's good side. |
ValCon888:After my father has dropped the key to his private jet, you will carry your own key waka far. |
It is the truth. Obama did so because he heard that Goodluck Jonathan is anti-gay and signed an anti-gay law in Nigeria. They sold him a dummy that Buhari was not. And that was how Obama made sure that Buhari won then welcomed him to US. Anyway, that's the truth as told by my uncle who believes in conspiracy stories. |
@TobyeCole, It is almost 9pm. Since you say the op is unemployed, she should have been in her house since. Have you had a discussion with her yet? |
Nmeri17:yes. |
Sterope:Don't mind me. UK is just frustrating. They make it so difficult to get a visa to stay. You will be made to feel so unwelcome like they can't wait to collect your money and then kick you out. How about getting a good paying job there? Forget it. When you take your masters to other countries, those ones would prefer their homegrown ones. Coming back to Nigeria. everyone now has a UK masters (I'm exaggerating of course). Even if you have Oxford/Cambridge/Imperial, it doesn't count, not like before. People are getting good jobs don't get me wrong but not like you would imagine. Then they make the courses more difficult than it should be. I'm obviously just moaning but i do regret going to the UK. I really wish i had considered other options. |
If i were in your shoes, i would let her go. Tell that she has been good but you don't want her personal life interfering with here work. Whenever she has it sorted out then she can come back. Then look for another person. It might look like she is irreplaceable but you will find another good fit and will wonder why you were so worried. It might take a lot of trial and error but if you are diligent and intuitive, you will get another. Don't look for someone that is exactly like her, you will not find. Look for someone that is honest, friendly, hardworking and loves kids. I was once in your shoes. I took a week off work because i was almost going out of my mind with worry. However, after several tries, I got someone that stayed with me for almost 5 years before she had to further her studies of which i am still in touch with her. Let her go. |
