Qasim6: some people can lie Unless you are living in denial. There is hard proof on YouTube, by a BBC correspondent, posted here on nairaland, showing Nigerian policemen publicly demanding bribes and you doubt a story about lecturers demanding sex for grades. Really? The problem in Nigeria is not it's leader; the problem is it's citizens. They live in denial, their standards are low, they don't even know what the standard is, their expectations are low, they lack the knowledge of what leadership truly is so anyone can be a leader to them, they are easily dazzled, and they forget too quickly. God, what a people. |

vedaxcool: Repeating yourself in 2 different ways is not progress. Re-read if you have to. The point remains intelligence from the prospective of the electorate who should bother not about eloquence but intelligence of what their leadership. Eloquence is naturally designed to decieve. Nigerians voted buhari not for his eloquence but for his strength of character. Adolf Hitler was eloquent and where did he take his people? Let's face what is important the idea or the spin? Intelligent people will choose the idea. Seriously? Well fortunately for the rest of the world and Webster's dictionary, eloquence is the ability to persuade through communication. Is he going to change the country by himself? He needs people to understand what his plans are. Without effective communication he might as well go it alone if no one understands his plans. It is because Nigerians are not used to quality leadership which is why anyone can simply be chosen as one. |

vedaxcool: Eloquence is NOT EQUAL TO Intelligence, hence if the electorate who should rather focus on the solutions being offered begin to pay attention to spoken English or mouth gymnastics then such an electorate is not intelligent because they fail to grasp what is important. Nowhere in my post did i say eloquence and intelligence are the same thing. The problem with Nigerians is that they still don't understand what is expected from their leaders or what leadership is for that matter. The ability to carry people along no matter how intelligent you are is paramount. If the people you are trying to lead aren't convinced or don't even understand anything about your intentions you will have problems achieving your objectives. Eloquence is basically communication and persuasion. He keeps saying "i will do this and that", but for some reason he cannot articulate how he intends to achieve these things and no one is asking questions. Intelligence is one thing, but if i am not convinced about how he intends to get things done and how he intends to achieve them, then i am not going to follow him. All great leaders are have been eloquent. Churchill, Eisenhower, Martin luther king, even Awolowo.. This is why they were able to achieve so much in such a short time. Their people understood their intentions and followed unquestionably. |

Bail is not about "going away". It is about recognizing that everyone has rights and it should be upheld. This is not about Dasuki. It is about the rights of you and me. Who says that one day, someone can just pick me and you up because of suspicion and lock us up indefinitely. Dasuki has not been proven guilty and until he is, his rights must be respected. If the court had denied him bail, it would have been a different story entirely, but he was. I used the jungle justice example because what you said is what people who engage in it say when they set fire to a suspect. "we need to bend the books a little to teach others a lesson". But, that is not how it is done in saner societies. |

vedaxcool: The hall mark of intelligence is the ability to know what is important at any point of time. That is the ability for the brain to put it crudely sieve the wheat from chaff. Is it eloquence we want to chop or concrete solutions spoken? I don't think you understood what you wrote. Eloquence is important, especially for a leader. It is important because of communication. If a leader does not have persuasive skills, it will impact how fast or slow he gets things done. A lot of people will disagree with his plans and he needs to be able to convince them of his intentions. |

Nigerians must stop looking for short cut to solving our problems. We can not cut our nose to spite our face, we can not undermine separation of powers an ingredient very fundamental to democracy just because Buhari wants to fight "corruption".
Buhari is seeking absolute power and we know from history how absolute power corrupts! A big part of Nigeria's problem is information. I find this silly. Why will you patronize or involve in sex with a prostitute. Do you even know what you are doing. Some people even think This is how they satisfy thier sexual urge forgetting the danger in It.
(2) You Are Prone to STDs: some people will even go to an extent of not using cond*m. Do you think you are the only one that use that hole. Many people like you also uses it on daily basis and you dont have any idea about them. My brother save your self and dont die young.
source : www.naijapally.tk/forum2_theme_111531533.xhtml?&tema=26 You can talk from now till the world ends but boy/girls will not listen until you show them the dangers. When i first joined my organization i was single and a "player". I thought i was invisible. Nothing fit do me. It is customary that when you are employed, you go through two weeks of orientation on the do's and don't of the organization. We had a class on STD's and O'boy, my philosophy of sex changed one time. They were showing us pictures of some phucked up shiit people have and were passing along like candy. There were some STD's they showed us that we didn't even know existed. There were some you didn't even need to have sex with a person but could be transmitted by touch though it was rare. Even with a condom you would have sex and it would be like you didn't even use a condom. Did you know that with the "girl on top" position, you have a ninety percent chance of contracting whatever disease she has just because of gravity? Her juices would flow downwards to your genitals which would make a condom useless. The final advise they gave us was to bring any babe or guy in the case of a female, to our TMC and have both of us tested, then wait two weeks for the results and still use a condom if the result came out negative. Food for thought. |

captain247: Fuel subsidy removal is of the advantage when global oil price goes down like its happening now but will be of disadvantage when global oil price goes up. Say for example, If for now you're buying at #86 per liter with no subsidy and global oil price is $35 by the time global oil price goes up to $60 you'll have to buy at say #120 or more. There are no disadvantages to the removal. The question you need to ask is how do countries like germany, who don't have oil happen to never have fuel scarcity and seem to be able to afford it even with the high rate they pay? And we are talking about a country that has plenty of it but can't seem to refine or make it available for it's citizens. How does that not defy logic. |

"What happened to due process" and "rule of law" or does it work only when you want to recover the loots. Phase two for just the ONSA If we reach kerosene subsidy what phase we go get This is the big problem in Nigeria. There is too much reliance on cash transactions. I was in the Nigerian embassy in Germany recently and i was amazed at the level of corruption there. The amount that was advertised on the NIS site was not the same charged at the embassy, plus there were fees charged at the embassy that were not stated on the Site, and they were demanding cash for all this. It had been a long time that i'd seen this level of cash transactions in the open. No be bank Now so why should this be happening? If they can be doing this in far away Berlin, i shudder to think what would be happening in Nigeria. Nigerian don't have their priorities in place because if they did, the main focus would be looking for ways to stop these kind of dependence on cash transactions. This is one of the reasons why corruption is so rampant in the country. It is sad that i have to keep going back to Nigerian embassies for visas. What a country. |

NORAD: It's not about time in this case.
Billions of planets have been probed for signs of life, and nothing positive so far.
If you take the cumulative efforts modern scientists have put into shaming religion by looking for extraterrestrials, then you'll understand how many thousands of years we're taking about here.
I'm a great lover of space exploration and often follow NASA's programmes keenly. But I do this to wonder at God's wonderful creation.
This things prove His existence and not otherwise. Those who don't believe in Him err greatly. Again your whole premise is that because we have tried it can never happen. Then what's the point of space exploration? NASA understands this which is why they keep probing. A lot of the advances made today is because they did not stop because it hadn't "happened yet". |

NORAD: Stop quoting pre-historic men as it weakens your argument.
There are billions of stars in the galaxy. They even believe there's, not one universe, but a multiverse.
They've, over the years, sent powerful telescopes, spaceprobes, Voyager 1 and 2 (at least one of this two has even gone past the solar system!), Pioneer 10 and 11 (since 1972!) and myriads of others.
I hate to break it to you but they're yet to even find an algae let alone an ant on any of these planets.
Chances are they'll never fine one in your lifetime. What will you do if this scenario plays out? It took thousands of tries to get the first rocket to break orbit. By your argument they should have have stopped after a while just because it hadn't happened yet. That makes sense. Fortunately for us, NASA does not agree. |

They said the same thing when scientists said they were going to the stars. Now you can watch cable and make phone calls because of it. |

NORAD: You were a bit too quick in clicking submit, too. I added something to the quote above. Again, let me ask you this question: What do you understand by the Dark Ages? Do you know why it was called that. And how about the Reformation? In Christendom, the catholic church NEVER represented the true church of Christ. Only Catholics will argue against this truth (call it assertion if you like).
There was no Anglican, Baptist etc. then because Martin Luther (a catholic) was the one God used to revive the true church of Christ. Let's not delve away from the main issue at hand. This all too common on Nairaland. The issue at hand is of my opinion that life could be found on other planets, and if it is, how will it impact religion. And your's is that it is impossible to find life on other planets because it hasn't happened yet. Even though history has taught us not to underestimate the power of science. |

NORAD: Your arguments are weak.
One, the notion that the earth was flat back then was a widely held belief by all, not necessarily the church. And please don't refer to the catholic church as ' the church'.
Two, regarding a visit to the stars, well if you lived in that era, you'd believe the same thing, too. It's so easy to crucify those people because of your so-called 'knowledge' of today, one that's done more harm than good. I only wish you had read your post before you clicked "submit". 1. The church was indeed the catholic faith. There was no anglican, protestant, baptist, etc. 2. The fact that the opinion that the earth was round and held by all, and contrary views were quashed by the "church", is, like i said previously, the norm. The Church was the state. Nothing was done without the consent of the church. So raising a view contrary to the church was life threatening. 3. You prove my points by just typing. You said " regarding a visit to the stars, well if you lived in that era, you'd believe the same thing too". There is a reason we often fall back on history so as not to make mistakes in the future. If the folks back in the day underestimated the power of science, why should we in this day and age do the same thing. We would be making the same mistakes they made. I said it is possible that life could be found on other planets and you said it is impossible, thereby making the same mistakes our ancestors made. There is nothing like impossible when it pertains to science. Just because it hasn't happened yet does not mean it couldn't. |
