You will not need visa to get into an ECOWAS country such as Ghana. Cameroon is NOT a member though.
Travel › Re: How Is Cameroon? by Bossman(m): 12:21am On Dec 22, 2009
I heard Ghana has a nice beaches though. Not sure about Cameroon. As for safety, they are both safer than Nigeria. However, since you already have some contact in Cameroon, it will be likely be a better choice.
Travel › Re: Immigration To The US: Which Of The States Is The Best Place To Settle Down by Bossman(m): 6:55pm On Dec 06, 2009
Exactly. Could not have said it better. The US is such a HUGE country, with each region/state having characteristics that make them unique. Everything that is posted below should be factored into your decision.

agathamari:
picking a state or a region for that matter has many things to consider. do you prefer warm or cold climates. dry or moist (lot of rain/snow). do you mind living in mountains or prefer plains. do you have issues with forest or wildlife (some areas you will never see a wild animal while others will be a comon fixture). what "disaster" is the area prone to and can you deal with it (tornados, squals, huricanes, earthquakes). do you have children. what is your age (some areas attact the elderly while others middle aged and others young adults). what type of buisness are you looking to work for/open. what is your religion (american mid west is refered to as the bible belt for good reason). what is your education plans (are you going back to school) cost of living expances. and much more

I think you should focus on the city rather than the state. Almost very US state will have a large sizable black population, especially in the big cities. Also, your chances of getting a good job a probably higher in the large cities that have a lot of big companies. NY, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, etc. All the big cities also have a large Naija presence.
Travel › Re: Expired 9ja Passport by Bossman(m): 12:29am On Dec 04, 2009
I know how you feel mycutiepie, about those folks at the Naija embassy not picking up the phone. And, if you are lucky to get someone to talk to, it's usually some idiot that has no clue and will likely just spit out incorrect information. Unfurtunaly, the new passport renewal procedure is hell, because fingeprints are now required. As huge as the US is, they now require everyone to show up in NY physically. So, if I live in Los Angeles, Miami, etc. we are talking about a 5 hour flight or so. I am in Chicago, and my brother is in the same predicament. They pretty much told him he has to do it online, then at some point someone will contact him with an interview/fingerprint date. I do not see why fingerprints cannot be mailed to them, just like it is for a lot of other US documents.

This I know, going to Naija without a valid passport is a big risk. There is no guarantee you will even board the flight, talkless of entering the country. Yes, it's your country but the officers there have all right to deny you entry if your papers are not valid or complete. It's just like saying you want to enter the US with an expired US passport. Now, you know that will not happen.
Programming › Re: What In Your Opinion Is The Most Programmer Friendly Java Web Framework? by Bossman(m): 12:15am On Dec 04, 2009
Actually, I believe struts is programmer friendly. All that xml configuration saves you on the long run. For dealing with the interaction between your view and controller, struts fits in very well. Of course, if you are using spring, it's MVC framework will also do well in that aspect.

Travel › Re: What They Dont Tell You About America. From Someone Living In America. by Bossman(m): 12:35am On Nov 19, 2009
Every country has its problems. I will tell you this. I good credit system is an indication of how structured and strong financially a country is. Wealth is built on credit. What the ability to attain credit does is unbelievable. Yes a lot of us live in this country with big homes, also a lot of us are close to paying off these big homes. Without the credit system that allows us to buy homes very early in live, this will not be possible. The key thing is not to abuse the credit and the financial powers that it gives you. Why do you think a lot of developed countries have a lot of wealthy people.

Why do you think the financial institutions in Nigeria are trying so much to establish a credit system in the country. Credit is power!

BTW, from the tone of your post, it seems like the USA is not working out for you or you.
Tech Jobs › Re: I Need Help Of A Java Programmer That Has Deployed A Mysql Driven Application B4 by Bossman(m): 12:03pm On Nov 09, 2009
I agree. Maven will take care of these sort of things. You just need to specify your dependencies and Maven will do the rest.

candylips:
Is anyone here using Maven huh. Things like these are a piece of cake

Programming › Re: MVC Pattern by Bossman(m): 12:35am On Nov 05, 2009
Well said. It's very true that patterns that support the separation of concerns are esential to developing complex applications. Just about every where I have worked have used MVC or a variant of it.

Ghenghis:
Guys

I've been following your posts and you guys are just short of throwing punches cheesy

I've used both .NET and Java extensively(though i now use mostly Java cause of work).

Design patterns are language agnostic, and we all need them. They are simply good, industry tried techniques for solving common problems.

Yes, some languages tend to shield many developers from thinking patterns, and yes there are more opportunities for java architects than .NET cause MS usually bundle their own brand of best practice into ,say, infrastructure libraries. This is a fact, but i've seen great application of patterns in .NET apps (both from MS and 3rd parties).

Distributed applications can generally be categorized as 2tier or 3tier (same as N-tier). In two tier you have smarter clients driving the server.
In 3 tier you have a middleware driving the server.

MVC or similar patterns that allow separation of concerns for apps is necessary to build complex but maintainable apps (yeah MVC is boring cause its everywhere, but its important) smiley
Family › Re: Honeymoon Outside Nigeria Is It Compulsory by Bossman(m): 3:59am On Oct 24, 2009
Honeymoon itself is not even a must. Do it whenever time permits and it's convenient. We did not have a honeymoon when I got married due to time constraints, etc. We understood what our goals are However, I must say we have been to so many countries as a couple and with the kids (Mostly in the Caribbean) and had pleasurable moments that I do not think a honeymoon would have even come close. In my opinion, this honeymoon thing right after getting married is completely blown out of proportion!

Bottom line, do the honeymoon thing whenever it's convenient for you both logistically and financially.

You may want to search the forum. It has been discussed a number of times. I believe the consensus was PHP. However, to learn software development at large, any of Java, .net, C++ can be chosen. If your focus is just to get job in naija, then check the other threads for what the folks are saying.
Travel › Re: Renewal Of Passport-please Help by Bossman(m): 11:17pm On Oct 08, 2009
It's a huge pain trying to get the new e-passport here in the US. It's only issued in New York. You apply online and then wait for them to call you for an interview. The you have to fly to NY, pay for accomodation etc. Bunch of nonsense! I wonder who the slowpoke is that heads these consulates. There has to be an easy way. For example, for US passport, you can do the finger pring at a notary and send it to them. However, the Naija folks requure physical presence because of the finger print. It makes absolutely no sense that everyone in in the US that needs the new passport has to go to NY to get it. That can be almost a 6 hr. flight for folks on the West coast.
Programming › Re: Which Programming Language Holds Brighter Prospects In Nigeria by Bossman(m): 11:01pm On Oct 08, 2009
Based on the responses here, especially from the IT folks in Nigeria, it certainly looks like PHP is it. So, you may well go that route. However, if down the road you want to learn programming or even think about developing enterprise level web applications, I think learning Java/.NET will definitely be a good way to go. No one is saying any one language is better than the other. Just use the one you need to get the job at hand done.
Travel › Re: Applying For Nigerian Passport Reissue In Us by Bossman(op): 12:41pm On Sep 06, 2009
So they gave you an interview date one week from when you did your transaction online. And you have to fly to New York within one week, book flight, find a hotel, etc. That just makes absolutely no sense! There has to be a more effecient way. Anyway hope you made it to your interview.

bonhommie:
A little update for anyone wanting to do this -

Once you make your payment, you will be given an option to print two items - Acknowledgement Slip AND Receipt.
YOUR INTERVIEW DATE IS ON THE RECEIPT!!!

I found this out the hard way. I printed Ack slip only to find out too late that I should have printed receipt too. it doesn't tell you anywhere that the interview date is on it and I never got an email with the date either.

I only got this automated receipt from google checkout.

And the interview date was set at 1 week ahead from payment date.

anyway, hope that helps someone.

Try to contact facebook. They will want proof that the email belongs to you. that they can do by sending en embedded link to the email address. However, I am not sure FB will totally remove an email address right away, even if you deactivate it like you said you did. I am really surprised you were able to register your aunt with an email address that is already being used. It allowed it, but it deactivated the current account instantly.
Celebrities › Re: Who Is Greater Michael Jakcson Or Bob Marley? by Bossman(m): 9:39pm On Jul 10, 2009
No need to try to compare both of them. They both contributed heavily in every way possible during their respective times. I see a number of posts about folks not knowing Bob Marley, and I will have to say that that is totally false. They are both known all over the world.
Phones › Re: Nokia Maps In Naija by Bossman(m): 12:47am On Jul 08, 2009
I agree. Mapping streets in Naija is difficult due to complete lack of data. Just for kicks, I fired up google maps on my mobile when I was there 2 weeks ago. It only showed the major streets. Agege Motor road, etc. I was based in Ogba. There was absolutely no street information, so kind of hard to determine the accuracy of the "My Location" feature when I tried it.
Career › Re: Should I Quit My Programming Job? (Can't Cope) by Bossman(m): 12:37am On Jul 08, 2009
It seems like you have no interest in programming, but somehow was able to get the job. You should have gone through a technical interview process, which if done thoroughly, they would have determined if you can do the job or not. As I have posted in several threads, programming is one field where by if you do not know it, and you some how got the job through a mediocre interview process or so, they will find out very quickly. My suggestion would be that you quit and go and do something you will enjoy.
Phones › Re: Black Berry Unlock Code by Bossman(m): 5:37pm On Jun 26, 2009
What do you mean by AT&T is killing you. Are you in the US on AT&T? If you are and have been for at least 90 days in good standing, AT&T will provide the unlock code upon request. I have unlocked at least 5 phones through AT&T within the last 2 years. If you are not an AT&T customer, and you are trying to unlock and AT&T phone, you can certainly do it via a 3rd party for around $20 - $40 or so.

Please excuse me.  I really could not understand most of what you wrote. I am surprised this stuff is coming from a university graduate. Nothing against you personally though, because I have seen worse writing skills from some so-called college graduates in these forums.

Good luck to you anyway.
Programming › Re: C++ Or Java: Which Way To Go? by Bossman(m): 2:51am On Jun 07, 2009
The key thing is to learn software design principles. Just use whatever language is being taught at your school. Once you have a solid understanding of software design/engineering principles, it should not take a lot to use those principles in whatever language you end up using professionally, be it Java, C#, C++, etc.

Programming › Re: Session Tracking In Servlets by Bossman(m): 5:38pm On May 26, 2009
Make sure you are passing control to the next page by forwarding the request via requestDispatcher. So, your servlet will act as a controller. The first form/page submits to it, you create the session object, store appropriate attributes, then forward the request to the next page/view.

Google for "Core servlets and JSP" by Marty Hall. Read the chapter on session management and it should help.

I concur, that this is a tough one to swallow. However, I hope you get the strength to move forward with your life. And, tell him and his pastor to go to hell! There is a good chance he is lying about the pastor thing. And even if the pastor told him that, most of those pastors and their vision is complete nonsense!

Best wishes!

Are you guys reading the whole thread or just OP's original post. OP was asked if he has cheated on her, and he answered yes. So, why are some of you guys blaming the lady.

OP, as you already thought of doing, print out this whole thread and show it to her. Get together with her, may be go to a restaurant or so, and talk it over. You have both done wrong at some point in the relationship. So, it's up to you guys to decide if you want to stick it out.
