I'd like to know the answer to that question too. I wonder how much enterprise level J2EE applications are being developed in Nigeria. From the other theads I have read. it does not seem like a whole lot. How can one get a job in these technologies in Nigeria?

How relevant is J2EE in the Nigerial market. was into EJB (3.0) and JWS not quite long ago, but was discouraged from furthering as i heard most businesses have now moved on to light-weight frameworks and don't depend on J2EE particulary EJB. is it worth doiing the SCBCD 5.0 and SCDJWS?.

J2EE can be as simple and as complex as you want to make it. Like others said, just hit google and explore. In a nut shell, developing J2EE applications means you break the application down into components according to the functions each perform. It can be a very simple MVC application or it can involve a number of frameworks. Again, there is lots of info out there.

What country are you in, where did you buy the phone from, and what bands does the phone have?

There could be several reasons. I am not sure if there are large IT companies in Nigeria that are using any king of "Methodology" for their software development. Requirements gathering, Physical and Logical design, use case reviews, etc. are very important parts of the software development process. However, it could be that most of the IT shops in Nigeria just do not follow any of these.

Hi, would your tam happen to have a need for a Project Lead/Technical? Specifically as a conultant for about a 2 year project or so.

I am based in the US and willing to transition to Nigeria (Lagos) slowly. There does not seem to be much information out there regarding the IT market in Nigeria. Does anyone here know to what extent enterprise level applications are being developed in Nigera.

Even if she stays with someone and goes to the hospital at the last minute. She will be in the hospital at least over night, and possibly 2 days. That is easily over $10,000. I am in a Chicago suburb, and even though the hospitals we used for my 2 kids, were a little on the high end, you should expect to pay at least $5000/night even in the hospitals in the city of Chicago. I am not sure if it's a law that the hospitals cannot deny you even if you do NOT have insurance.

The #1 cause of bankruptcy in the US is inability to pay medical bills. Bottom line, it's a whole lot more expensive here.

Treo 750, Moto Q9h Global, and samsung blackjack are 3 windows mobile phones that I use and do not have any problems with. I have also used them on my visits to Nigeria. They are all quadband and the treo and blackjack also have the the 3G bands used there. Worked well with MTN's 3G when I was there a couple of months ago.

Why can't you try to unlock it via the US carrier? assuming you have service with one of the GSM carriers here(AT&T and Tmobile). They both give out the code upon request. As long as you have been a customer for more than 90 days.

Depends on where u have junit installed, you should then go to your environment varibles and add the lib folder under junit to the 'path', then set JUNIT_HOME to whatever ur junit home directory is,

My experience is the same as yours. I am an IT consultant (Enterprise Architect), however I still do some coding. At the current client, which I have been for almost 3 years, about 30% of my time has been spent on coding. And the same goes for the other architects I have worked with.

abiola.kbr, Just like you, I am a Technical Lead/Enterprise Architect here in Chicago. I have a few questions regarding IT in Nigeria. I will PM you.

This is a difficult one. It's not easy being away from your soul mate for that many years. Even though, you will likely visit your husband in Nigeria during this period. If you feel the citizenship is critical for you and your kids, then you have to go that route. I know you said your husband is God fearing, however anything is possible. Heck! the pastors that commit adultery with young girls are god fearing too. And their wives live in the same country and house with them. In your own case you are thousands of miles apart.  Either way you go, there are possible consequences. You just have to way the importance of each, and do what's best for your family. I know it's easier said than done, but personally, I would just head back to Nigeria, so that you can raise the kids together and possibly grow his business together. Hope things work out for you.

First of all, anyone that is posting someone else's credit card number here should indicate to you that he is fraudulent and stay clear. That is the number 1 red flag on the dude and probably should have been banned.

It's a good thing that you posted your experience so that others here will not fall in his trap. That you were even duped for that much is also a big surprise. there are several points along the way that you should have known that the guy was fake. It had 419 written all over it.

Use whatever works for you to get the job done. They all have their pros and cons.

No! You cannot learn it in one month. For you to be proficient in it it will take a while and a lot of practice. Obviously, how long it takes will vary from one individual to another, and it will also depend on how deep you want to get with it. But, for you to be able to do it professionally, it definitely will take a lot longer than a month.

There are several threads that take you from the beginning. I'd suggest you follow the appropriate threads, download the JDK, setup your environment, get a few books and start reading and doing the examples. You can even try to modify the examples and see what you can come up with. If you have specific questions, then you can post back here.

I do not think anyone can hold someone's hand and tell them this is how you do it. How successful you are at it will depend on your problem solving skills and how hard you work at it.

Very true. I do all of the above and more. That's just the way of life around here. the responsibilities of raising the children and doing house chores have to be shared. And, as you pointed out, domestic help is outrageously expensive! Heck! we already pay a lot of money for day care and before/after school care. This attitude also carries over even when folks move back home.

These topics have been discussed to death in these forums and many others out there. While similar, they both have their strengths and weaknesses. Not sure what the purpose of this thread is. Just use whatever works for you.

While it's true you do not have to be a Math guru to be able to program, your ability to think logically and solve problems will determine how successful you can be as a programmer. If you totally suck at math though, programming will be very challenging to you. It does not matter what language you develop in. You just need to be able to think come up with solutions to problems.

In my opinion the IT fields are quite distinct, and since you said you have researched it on your own, you should be able to decide which of them you may want to specialize in and where your strengths lie. For example is it application development/programming, Networking, Database admin/development, etc. Once you have decided at a higher level which one suits you, then you can narrow it down or at least ask here, which programming language or development environment to specialize in. However, at a higher level, you and ONLY you can make that decision, based on the research you have already done.

Ok. That was probably it. Thanks!. I can't remember if I restarted the phone or not. Browsing from the phone did take out of the alloted 50 MB though, even without restarting the phone.

Bossman, to stop that from happening, you need to restart your phone after you have been activated for the plan.

I signed up on a couple days and used this plan when I was in Lagos last month.  However, when I tethered (use my phone as a modem) my laptop  it was using my regular airtime instead of it coming out of the 50 MB allowance.  It's probably a setting on my phone, because I do not think it should have made a difference to MTN if I was tethering or not, since they will cut me off once I hit 50 MB or my 24 hrs. is up anyway.  I was using a treo 750 if it makes any difference.

yawa-ti-de, the wealth2all's tone has changed somewhat. His last post now says without 'learning' HTML or java. He said it was a mistake. wealth2all, there is definitely a big diference between using and learning.

Your title is misleading. You can not have a website without HTML. The browser understands how to render HTML.
