It certainly does. Lots of information out there - https://www.google.com/search?q=java+and+biometrics&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a |
Wow! You guys fire in Naija oh. Do these old V4 cars really go that fast? If they do that would certainly put a strain on the engine. Anyway, I do not think police there enforce any kind of speed anyway. For me - About 5 years ago, I got paced at 125 MPH (was actually unknowingly racing with an unmarked police cruiser at 1 am on I-90 in Chicago). It was a freaking $585 ticket. Car was a 2004 Infiniti I35 with 255 HP. Also, just recently I hit 110 MPH (set speed warning at 100 MPH) on I-355 in Chicago. Car was a 2011 BMW 535ix with 300 HP. On these occasions, I was the only one in the car. I certainly will not go these speeds if my family was in the car with me. |
In Nigeria, due to the quality of the gasoline there, they need to be changed more often than say in the UK/USA. Cars just tend to require more maintenance in Nigeria period! The 2006 Sequoia and 2008 E-class that we shipped to Nigeria both with 40K and 30K miles respectively, have both had their fuel filters changed. What a joke! |
Well said. No time, period, especially for family men with young kids. Plus its widely accepted in Nigeria. The acceptance of polygamy plays a major factor too. PS. please excuse my typo. On a fast moving train and about to reach my stop.
I believe cheating is not as common overseas. For one thing, it's not acceptable like it is in Nigeria where most people consider it the "norm." If you live a middle or upper class life abroad as a professional, you will know it's not the kind of behavior you can flaunt like you could in Nigeria. Even though a lot of oyinbos cheat too, it is still not widely accepted and the last thing Engr Wazobia wants is for his neighbors or colleagues at work or even his boss sef to find out he cheats on his wife. Doesn't mean he's going to be fired at work for cheating but una know how oyinbo people go just label that kind of person. With just a whiff or scandal, the neighbors go just ostracize like say he killed someone. Another point is the issue of money. A lot of couples have joint accounts and even if you don't have joint accounts, chances are your wife has a pretty good idea how much you earn. Which means depending on how much your "pocket money" is after settling family expenses; you'd better make sure your flings are dirt cheap and far between otherwise you may be robbing Peter to pay Paul (using your younger brother's monthly stipend that you send to Naija to pay for motel and a dinner and/or movie for the fling). Family obligations - Weekends and evenings, the kids have karate, cooking class, drama, dance, Boy Scout/Brownies meetings, etc. Your time is so booked up (guess what-there is no Driver ) that you don't have the time nor energy for flings. Getting down with Madam sef after everything na work. Not to talk of mowing the lawn, doing your own landscaping because you refuse to pay someone some outrageous amount of money (especially when you convert to naira) to do it for you. And of course, your own quota of housework, plus ironing, plus taking the cars to the car wash. . . . . . . .need I go onOverseas, people are more aware of health, diet and exercise. Obesity is not celebrated, neither are XXXL "junk" and stomach. Women are more likely to keep looking attractive through diet and exercise and retain their husbands' attention. This is not to say folks at home do not exercise but if you have a good job that pays enough for a home gym or gym membership in Lagos (hear there's a N150k/yr membership gym in VI), you're likely not home till quite late and simply don't have enough time nor strength nor motivation for adequate exercise between your job, family obligations and the ever busy Lagos social life. Child support - If you do it without a condom and impregnate the fling and she decides she wants to keep the child (never mind what the "agreement was", e don become lifelong commitment be dat and she will get child support even if she no put the man's name on the child's birth certificate. Yup! the man has created a "baby mama" whether he likes it or not with all the attendant expenses that go with it. If Madam then finds out and is eligible for child support and alimony, life just gets more complicated. Divorce can ruin a man financially and many have ruined their credit ratings by filing for bankruptcy because they are left with nothing after the divorce. Financially, it could be a nightmare. These are a few of the reasons but the list is not exhaustive.
|
Like others said, just go ahead and start a conversation and ask for his number when the opportunity is there. Most of us guys actually like it if the lady makes the first move. To me, I see it as a sign of how confident she is. You see what you like, just go for it! Especially Since the dude is there for a short while. If it does not work out, so. Life is too short. |
I would not say so. At least not for me. It's more of a "time for a luxury car" thing. At some point in our lives, one just decides it's time. What's the point in buying a luxury car and can barely pay for it or living from check-to-check. However, for me, once other things are taken care of home, kids school, investments, etc. Then any extra can be put towards what one really likes. In my case, at least that's how I approach it. |
As I already mentioned, in other programming/development forums, this can never be a topic of discussion. And if at all it comes up, it will be considered a mute point to even discuss it. Since it is known, at least on this end, that they are basically the same thing. |
There is no Imessage ID. To use Imessage all parties need to be using the lates Iphone software. That's it. If you send a msg to any of your contacts, the iphone OS will know if the other party has the latest software and send it via Imessage, otherwise it's sent as regular txt. |
Programming is certainly challenging and nobody will tell you it's easy. As already suggested, starting with Java is a good idea. You are going to run into road blocks, you just have to work harder to overcome those hurdles. |
Something like this will not even come up for discussion in most other application development forums, since it's a known fact that they are the same thing. |
In the computer programming/computer science/IT world, they are used interchangeably and mean pretty much the same thing. In the dictionary, they probably do not mean the same thing. |
Whatever you do, make sure it's something you will like doing. Programming will be challenging and if you are up to it challenges, solving problems, etc., it's certainly one to go into. Bottom line, do not go into any field ONLY because of the money. Get a programming and networking book read through, and you should be able to determine which one suits you. |
You've got some good responses, however I think it should be elaborated that Java is a programming language and PHP is not. PHP is a scripting language. They are quite different in that respect. They both have a bright future. But they are used for different things. If anything you should be comparing Java to another programming language, and PHP to another scripting language, such as JavaScript. |
I agree. In a country like Nigeria, where free WiFi is rare, it makes sense to go with 3G. |
It's unbelievable that there are still so many people that have not registered their sim after all this time. Registration does not take a while. New sims are not usable until they are registered. When I was in Lagos in April, I bought an MTN card but had to register it before it was usable. Went to Ikeja bus-stop and got it done in less than 5 mins and phone was working instantly! |
Seems like you have been through a lot with this guy and he does not want to take the bull by the horn and go get it! It's not normal for a Naija man to want to sit at home while the lady of the house is working, so not sure what the deal is with him. Especially since you have made the effort to try to help him secure something. This life is too short, and one's happiness is very important. If divorce is the way to go, I'd say go for it. You seem like a hard working person and wish you the best. |
I am assuming Chicago is/was your final destination for your schooling. I will also assume you planned on living in the dormitory. If not, $400 would not have got you anywhere. Do you have a mobile phone that one can reach you on? If not, I would advice that you get a cheap prepaid phone quickly, with whatever money you have left. Then post the number here. So that those able and willing to help can contact you. |
I will try to answer as much as I understand of what you are asking. 1. I am not aware of any information that indicates that the prometric exams will be free after the first trial. 2. Java applications can be written to connect to any of the mainstream RDBM's. Danyl: |
Here in the US, I believe it's oracle. As a consultant though, I have developed applications that access all the main RDBMS. Oracle, Sqlserver, DB2, mysql, etc. |
If you are programmer/developer, I do not think any recruiter will disqualify you based on not knowing one or the other. Just make sure you have a good grasp of RDBMS. Whatever database you use to learn it is fine. You can easily transfer your knowledge from one to the other. Now, if you are looking into getting into Database administration, it could be different. You just need to learn the one that's used mostly. |
I have heard good things about netbeans. As already mentioned, another IDE that will be just as good, if not better, and certainly much more popular, is eclipse. |
I suspect he is aware of that already. May be he can use those as a stepping stone to get into law school. I suspect he will still have to enroll in some undergraduate program and get a degree here in the US in order to be able to even do that. Just like you already plan on doing, work hard to try to get any job, then work your way up from there. Best of luck! mobuch: |
What are your current degrees in? Unless they are in some really needed skill, it's very unlikely you can use them here. You will have to go to school and earn a degree from here to improve your chances. Also, try to network with some of the other Nigerians around there. Most of them are in the North/South side of Chicago. I am in the NW suburbs, however I do work downtown though. avent: |
Where in Chicago are you? As for menial jobs, you should be able to find something. If you have IL drivers license already, have you considered driving a cab. I know you have degrees from Naija, but those will likely not hold ground here. So, you should try to get any job you can, while you try to prepare yourself for a professional job. Not sure what your current degrees are in or what your interest are. Bottom line you have to either go to school here, or get solid US experience before you can even be considered for a professional job. |
You can use any of the main stream languages out there. The key thing is to learn the fundamentals of programming thoroughly, especially Object Oriented Programming. Java, c++, etc. Are some to consider. |
This can certainly be done. Can't remember off the top, but I believe you have to specify new in addition to other attributes in the Javascrip function or so that is associated with the link. Just Google for it. |
Learning a language is one thing. More importantly. You have to be able to think logically. That is, you are given a problem, and you come up with a way to solve it. It certainly helps to good in math. |
I commend you for looking ahead and thinking things out. I know you said you have searched but without much luck. Don't worry, it takes a little while. Try to leverage the experience you already have. Also, try to network as much as possible. A lot of things in Nigeria is who you know ( I am assuming you are in Naija). You sound like someone with a good head on his shoulders and you will do well I wish you the best. |
Certainly a somewhat selfish act on his part. Good thing that he at least confessed to you though. You seem like a pleasant person that does not deserve this. I kind of feel for you and hope you guys can work it out. Best of luck! |
Pentecostal, catholic, bishop, etc. Who gives a damn about all these factions these days, go the extent that it can determine who one marries! What a bunch of nonsense! If you love and care about each other, that's what should matter. No wonder we have so many problems in Nigeria. |
If you need help with that, google for "connecting to MS Access from visual basic". This is is a common functionality back in the days, so you will get plenty of hits. skoten: |
If I may ask. How often do you have to use/topup MTN to keep the sim active? Is it every 3, 4, or 6 months. |
