Ishilove:She was born before the war, actually. Kids talking thrash is par for the course. Those who really are "elders", unlike me, would remain chilled despite kid's thrash talk a la "when I was a child I spoke like a child et al". Once elders join in with thrash talk they become thrash talking kids themselves.

TheSourcerer:I was too young to fight in the war. I watched it on BBC. |
tintingz:No it isn't tingz. And I must say, I detect absolutism and insufficient sceptism in your statement. Many have various diverse and even opposing beliefs and are Muslims, but the beliefs people have are not Islam, and thinking it is is like claiming those called Lordists or those refered to as woed are Christians, when they clearly aren't. One should not judge a book by the understanding of its readers alone. For it is very possible that the readers one judges by lack understanding, which is why the skeptic reads the book with their own open mind so as to seek its proper unpolluted meaning. If not, boko haram might seem like Islam to one. (I'm hoping you agree that it isn't.) |
tintingz:Yes, "Religion has established the Idea of absolutism as everything is known (filling the gaps with god)", thereby promoting belief, which denotes ignorance. Religion is however not the same as picking up a book, reading it oneself, and understanding with ones own mind. The books are so full of contradictions and absurdities that the logical thing to do is adopt skeptism so that one seeks until one finds understanding. In fact, if one reads the books without the blind ignorance of religion, as in what others have said the words in books mean, one would find the books themselves promote skeptism. An example in the Bible is, unless one abandons all preconceived beliefs and ideologies, one would not understand things refered to as God. Therefore, whoever does not pressume to know it all shall learn more. Unfortunately, religion does what you say, to most.
|
tintingz:I think I need to remember this. And that the "absurdity of the Muslim beliefs" is not necessarily Islam, which is an understanding of the Quran. |
sino:Well, imagine the skeptic trying to cross a road. They look right and left, see no car coming, then look right and left again and no car's coming, so they look left and right again and no car coming, so they look....... Yep, I agree. Madness. Which why it is written that "if ones senses are dim, the whole body woud be full of madness". The moral being, one must make sure ones senses can be trusted and that one knows how to use them properly so skeptism does not make one go mad.

CoronaVirusRelo:He shoots first, then goes "O mein gott, I killed!" |
MuttleyLaff:buda reaps what buda sows. Manna does not fall into buda's mouth from heaven. Maybe preach to those who are not aware and believe otherwise. |
MuttleyLaff:I have been explicit. I do not believe things. I prefer to know and understand instead, which is why I'd wonder why most don't ask who was there recording the story they read of what they believe happened in a Garden of Eden. Such lazy ignorance is beyond me. MuttleyLaff:No you aren't repeating any "glaring facts"! You are merely asserting what you believe are facts. And as far as faith goes, one can have faith based on a belief, and one may base ones faith on facts, as in, empirical evidence. I, for instance, have absolute irrefutable faith that I shall not starve today because the empirical evidence of the potato that would help ensure I don't is baking in my oven. |
sino:The skeptic would say you should be skeptic and not say "we cannot know the truth about everything" even if our current knowledge is limited, especially since one is talking about 'some things' and not 'everything'. Besides, a justified belief is no more a belief but what one now knows, which is why one would hardly hear anyone say, "I believe that particular woman is my mother", or "I believe rain is falling on my head", and if anyone ever did say such things, those who hear it would say the person does not know who their mother is or whether it is raining on their head or not. To believe a thing is to be not quite certain, and a sceptical approach should be a requirement until one knows and is certain. Until then, one ought to suspend belief and disbelieve. C.f. Re: Why Faith Is Delusional |
Ishilove:Yeah, if only buda was fat like Flavio Briatore or had a wallet like his. And on that note, a baked potato is in order as my coffee with milk has run its course. |
Reminds me of my own childhood, lol. One day in nursery school, everyone was asked to say something in their mother tongue, but unfortunately mine spoke English most of the time and some gibberish I never understood. The Pakistan kids said their words, and the Indians said theirs as did the Polish and the French and the Italians, the Welsh and the Irish and everyone else in my class saying something in their mother tongue till it was my turn and the only word I knew wasn't English was finito, which I translated as "no more" since it's what dad always said when there was no more food or telly watching. I was so laughed at that that wasn't Yoruba, so I went home and asked my parents to teach me my mother tongue, and fortunately ended up a couple of years later amongst my mother tongue speakers and learnt the local language by translating into English Obey's "What shall we make this world into, I don't understand. World clean clean, world clean clean, this world is hard". I still recall asking a cousin of mine, "breadi waaa", when I meant, "can I have some bread please". |
Abbeylanre15:I'm glad. And what happened. |
Ishilove:I knew my tits would restore the status quo, lol. |
MuttleyLaff:I do not believe period. I know that people do evil things for various reasons like, ignorance, greed, stupidity, selfishness etc, and these are what I call devil, as in that which motivates one to be ignorant, greedy, stupid, selfish; while God is that in one that makes one do good. As is written, God created humans in God's own image which includes God's image of being a Trinity which makes humans a trinity of good, bad and the will to choose between the two which Christ embodied. It is a separation that humans gradually came to realise over the centuries, as is shown by the Trinity itself not coming into human consciousness until Christ embodied that which is God. Before it, there was only the duality of good and evil, and there are some who believe we just have not yet come to understand that God and God's creations might be a QUATERNITY or more. It is this that allows me to consider Genesis 3 might be a misunderstanding by its writers or translators. A being that sets "boundaries and/or limits" by enslaving people naked in gardens and deprives them of knowledge sounds more like boko haram than God, and the so called serpent sounds like chain freeing Logos the Christ, to me. Note. Beliefs are no substitute for knowledge nor understanding but the lazy acceptance that a thing is so with no collaborative evidence to support the claim one makes. None of the above is a belief but a search for understanding. C.f. Skepticism Vs Zombiesm - Which Is Good? |
Luke 9:37-43 “You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you and put up with you?” Smart unperverse people who understand the above will study the Word and become doctors or something suchlike and do greater things than Christ did. |
It is written, and you believe it but know not if they truly lived that long. MuttleyLaff: |
shadeyinka:First, my own salvation is irrelevant to me, if salvation means, not going to hell. Because since I cannot add a cubit to my stature on earth, I see no reason to attempt to add to it in the afterlife, especially as any attempt to do so implies a lack of faith. Jesus preached unselfishness to me and I apply that reasoning where my salvation is concerned by leaving it to the Grace of God, and I find that at least my salvation on earth is obviously certain. Second, salvation on earth, which concerns me a lot, manifests in the simple practicality of what one is saved from, like not being sheltered, hunger, illness, strife, war, and water coming out of the tap. I mean, it would be rather difficult to pressume to be saved while living on the street, or an empty belly or while dying of an illness or bombs dropping around one or not having easy access to water . Not only would I not consider myself saved under such circumstances, I'm likely to raise my fists to heaven screaming, "God, why have you forsaken me?", which I very likely wouldn't scream if I were saved. Third. I said my own salvation does not concern me. The reason for this is God's Grace, with no input from me, has sheltered me and filled my belly and cured me from severe illness and there's relative peace around me and water comes from taps in both my bathroom and kitchen. 'Thank you Lord for blessing me with so much' I say, because I'm very certain God might have decided to not do these salvationary things for me, and has definitely not done them for some of my neighbours. Fourth, God has this funny way of having to use its creations to fulfil Gods own ends for reasons I can't explain. God could have for instance gone to Egypt and said, "Pharoah! My people are leaving today", or even "Israelites! Fuq Pharoah. You are leaving now", and there wouldn't have been anything either the Israelites or Pharoah could have done to stop them, but God did not do this and sent Moses instead. God could have gone to Nineveh, but sent Jonah instead. God could have saved the world, but instead sent Jesus. God could save Nigeria, but instead, send buda please. You might from that understand why buda is work, work, work. It's for these understandings perhaps, and much more, I'm certain, that while you seem to understand the verse you quoted as "Don't work so you have nothing to boast about", I read the same verses as "boasting about work is bad", which even still kind of defies the logic of a simple curriculum vitae which is a process of boasting about previous works in order to be paid for future work so as to save oneself from not being sheltered, hunger, illness, strife, war, and water not coming out of the tap, by God's Grace. Trust me when I say I would never teach a doctrine I'm understanding you to be saying, i.e., " Salvation is by grace so do not work for it" (it's not exactly what you say, but what can be inferred from what you say. I would definitely not preach it to my child least my child starts thinking it would by grace pass an exam it never studied for or that manna it didn't work for would fall into its mouth from heaven. And even if God stood in front of me saying "Salvation is by Grace", I would likely do James and say, "Faith without works is dead, as are those who work not, and would consider adding "get the behind me satan", because I very strongly believe that one cannot be saved by doing no work and a doctrine to the contrary is ungodly, despite Scripture. Do note that underlying this view is the knowledge that Scripture is not God, but words in a book until one breathes the breathe of understanding into them so they live. |
MuttleyLaff:Actually, it is writtenin Genesis 7:6 that Noah was 600 years old when the floodwaters...... As is said in Porgy and Bess It ain't necessarily so It ain't necessarily so The things that you're liable To read in the Bible, It ain't necessarily so. Which is why sensible people should not just believe what they read. |
LordReed:I find that for many atheists, atheism means 'a belief that there are no gods or God'. I call such people, believers, same as those who believe there is a God or gods. They should all endeavour to know or simple accept they are ignorant about gods. |
Ishilove:Yeah. Make fun of me why don't you. |
Ishilove:Lol, your crush. I know a cure for that.
|
Ishilove:Do you want to stop being my friend? If you call me uncle, people will think I have no tits! |
Cyberterror:Their exploitation and dissatisfaction is what will be the base of the revolution some wish for. But we down south ignorantly mostly see them as sub-human without realising how powerful they actually are, sadly. |
Ishilove: buda, please! Or you would not be able to tell me to fuq off when you need to. |
Our future is indeed in the hands of the disenfranchised almajiris and definitely not in the hands of those satisfied by bbtacha's tits! |
Ishilove:Na, no toy soldiers. Unless we count the 7 white and 5 black chess pieces I found in a rubbish site while scavenging. My existence began just before Nigeria's war began and I unfortunately had BBC making life too serious for toy soldiers. I did have a peddle car, an iron horse, a stuffed panda bear and a bicycle that I shared with my siblings, though. My panda, which survives, got lent out to the neighbours' babies and I had to wash it and sow up all the rips and tears so the stuffing stayed intact when returned ripped, grubby and dirty a couple of years later. |
tintingz:You jump to conclussion too quick for my skepticism! Please try, if you would, to list or at least consider some other reasons for the two stories. |
