Disney will spend so much money and effort to parody Nigeria? Would be great if it were even half true!

Loosely based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the Oscar-winning film made a whopping £775.9million at the box office worldwide, so it’s no wonder Disney is having another crack at it with its latest live-action movie.

No expense was spared, with its huge £200million budget dwarfing the £37million of the 1994 version.

My seventh book made me work out how insane I actually am and was delighted to come across. I read it in what I'd describe as an insane society too so it was like looking deeper into my surroundings. I must confess though that I've taken a dishonest leap here because I've left out many years of reading and omitted lots of books to get to this one, but since I've got only a few left and have to fit this one in somehow, I have no choice. I've cheated though, I must confess, by leaving out some very important reads. But what else could you possibly expect when I have to choose 10 out of thousands of books I've read?

Book Title: The Sane Society

joseph1013:
Your own understanding of the Bible is that Jesus is a son of Joseph. How can that be your understanding when the Bible DIRECTLY teaches against that? The Bible says Jesus was born of the Holy Spirit.
The Bible does not teach! It is written in the Bible that Jesus was born of the Holy Spirit so it's up to me to understand what that means. After all, I went to school and know it takes a man and a woman to produce a child, so what the fuq could possibly be meant, I ask.

joseph1013:
I wonder where you got your definition of Wisdom from. Wisdom connotes body of knowledge and experience. That is why the Bible could say that "...the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God."
So, I'd say "Wisdom", and assume it's not of this world despite it being an earthly word? Do I plan to use that wisdom outside this world?

Wisdom means that which is wise, and if that's not clear enough, I can easily check a dictionary where I'd find it means "the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement; the quality of being wise". Can I get experience from the Bible? Can all my knowledge only come from Bible?

joseph1013:
In your ill-conceived defense, you talk about looker deeper into the Bible. How deep do you want to look? On whose authority do you look deeper? LOL
Here's a quote from Ayn Rand

I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.

I look deeper by my own authority, after all, my eyes, my brain, my mind! Or are you assuming I farmed them out or something?

When I read that Jesus was born of the Holy Spirit, knowing how babies are born, I could try and find out what might be meant by the Holy Spirit or chuck the whole book in the bin. I choose to do the former, by my own authority.

Hey buda lemme understand something about how you see the bible. Do you see it as a book that herein lie truths or do you see it as a book from which wisdom can be gleaned based on understanding?
I see every book worth reading as one I can learn something from. Its entirely up to me if it makes me wise or stupid.

What's even more laughable is that in defending the Bible you infer that Jesus is a fraud - not birthed by God.

Why should I take your rationalization over the Bible's? Any evidence?
I think you are the one inferring that Jesus is a fraud. God doesn't bear children as far as I know, and I don't exactly see where I've defended the Bible.

What you could possibly be accusing me of rationalizing is my own understanding of the Bible, which I haven't done yet, though I do think limiting the over 1000 pages of a book to what you have is irrational.

Do you seriously think what you've listed as the Wisdom in the Bible is the Wisdom in the Bible? Does Wisdom not apply to one's own understanding?

Poor lad, Joseph.

He was scammed!

Sure scammed!

He fell for that lie that was used to cover up Mary's infidelity.

I mean, many wives will be kicking themselves today - only if they've played that card.

Let your virgin wife get pregnant and tell you it's some god and let's see your reaction.

Joseph's own is easy to talk about and celebrate right?

Let's celebrate yours as well. I'll be sure out with my drums.. LOL!

And god's hates adultery. LOL

LAUGHABLE!
What's laughable is that you think what you read in the Bible is literally true. Have you considered the story you read might just be a cover up for Joseph's infidelity with Mary?

I once had to tell ma her mouth stank. Yep, I'm going to hell. I paid for her to go to the dentist and it don't no more, but I guess she's ma. I can tell her my school fees that she struggled to pay to educate me must not be wasted by her not learning when I teach her!

Get a book on tooth hygiene. Tell him someone gave it to you and leave it where he'd see and read it.

Tell him you have toothache and ask him to go with you to the dentist, you've book an appointment for him too. "Prevention is better than cure honey, and I read somewhere that you might have caught something from a contagious mouth disease that I might have".

That said, someone on here went to such a school and still made the best of their lemons instead of lamenting the poverty of mummy and daddy. Such people are less likely to be blaming government now because they know who's hands their life is in.

LifestyleTonite:
It means such a person who receives the knowledge of the gospel but turns it down to continue his sinful ways won't have the chance to get saved again. He fully understood the gospel but turned it down.

This doesn't apply to the saved, otherwise it would mean one is doomed the moment he sins again, no more salvation for him. That's clearly wrong.
Actually, no one "who receives the knowledge of the gospel" can possibly "turns it down to continue his sinful ways".

If one has "received the knowledge of the gospel", as in understood it, as opposed to merely believing it, one would be like the one who found treasure in a field and sold all one had to purchase that field.

Those who turn down the purchase of the field have not found the treasure of understanding or don't know what treasure is or they bought the wrong field and regret their worthless purchase.

solite3:
how do you do what you dont believe in?
I do what I understand solite3. Take "love your neighbour as you love yourself" for instance. Loving oneself in this harsh world can often be difficult especially since it can lead to self centeredness and a false sense of righteousness whereby all one thinks of is oneself alone. Yet, here is one being asked to love others as much as one loves oneself, which means if I love myself a little, I will love others a little and if I love myself a lot I would love others a lot.

Now, me? I love myself a lot so I must love my neighbours a lot too or I would be a hypocrite! And I don't just mean dictionary definition of love but love according to an understanding gained from years of study of the concept "to love" and the implications of love and all, which has made love a rather central idea in my total existence. Its in fact an understanding of love that has made me abandon atheism and turn towards God in fact, that understanding being as a light that quenched the darkness that my atheism was.

There is a mystery in the saying "love your neighbour as you love yourself" however, which one would find out eventually, and which faith in obeying it would also eventually lead one to. And that is that there is no difference between oneself and others in the end, and it all boils down to "Love", since oneself and others are one.

How? Through work. Work of diligently studying. Work of diligently trying to find meaning and to understand. If I believe solite3, I am assuming I already know and would no more seek, but by remaining poor, as in the sort of poor in Spirit that the Gospel is preached to, I will continue to seek and be preached to and I am therefore blessed exactly as Christ said I would be.

Now consider, why would believe a thing that one has evidence for and knows?

How I wish it could be laid out in words so it could be understood! Unfortunately, it can't so we ask you to believe until the time when your eyes open and you too can see and understand that Jesus is indeed Lord, and how and why.

solite3:
You dont believe Jesus words yet you claim to be a doer?
I don't believe Jesus, because I understand Jesus, and I know Jesus and all he said I should do. If I don't love, for instance, it is like giving myself cancer that will slowly eat me up and consume me and shorten my life, and how can one who shortens ones own life ever possibly live eternally?

I guess the only question left is whether I truly love right, though I expect you to dispute my claim to know too. Well, I can only claim to aspire since I'm not the measure of righteousness, but I can safely say however that I reap exactly the fruits of the seeds of love that I sow and goodness and mercy is my lot as I do not tend to be a reaper of hatred from anyone on here nor in the real world. But let me boast not least it seem I justify myself by my works, for even my understanding which I would boast of the most is by the Grace of the Lord God Almighty who led me on the path of righteousness despite my ignorant insistence to go to hell, for as is written, "I once was lost but now I'm found", so rejoice and be glad for me.

Wow! It's been awhile I haven't been here, how do you do op? Still waxing strong I see. You will be stronger.

kkins25:
Maybe it was me who didn't present my op well but budaatum, this is the message i was trying to get across
Kk, I have to say that I do not know the context in which you posted this but I'm intrigued all the same so let me.

Op titled the piece WISDOM FROM THE BIBLE, and then goes on to list instructions instead, I wonder why? Is it because he lacks understanding or hasn't read any Proverbs I wonder. But apart from that, op seems to take a rather literal view of Scripture going by his take in this piece, and rather than looking deeper than the instructions he expects to find wisdom on the surface of the words as if wisdom is conveyed as a list of instructions. I tell you that if one reads Things Fall Apart in that same way it will be the reading of a good story and nothing else, but many don't just read for the narrative, and I hope you don't either.

Anyway, as I said, I don't know what you related this to so I wouldn't be surprised if I'm singing off pitch. But consider that billions of people can not possibly still be reading a book if all they see in it is how to treat their slaves. And those who only see how slaves are treated are, in my opinion, reading with blind eyes because there's obviously a lot more to Scripture than just the treatment of slaves. It is a rather big book after all, and the treatment of slaves is in the early part. You'd be amazed what it evolves into by the end.

I just got unantispamboted but I've been reading along and daresay this post of yours made me wonder if you understand what you posted and then I saw the following.

solite3:
I applaud your defense if the gospel but you should know that a dead faith is a false faith.
A dead faith, I take it is one that produces no work. I'm sure you'd agree it's the faith of the unrighteous. Do note that my own position is that to have faith you must hear at the very least, and to hear is a word of action, a doing something, which is in itself, work, however you wish to cut it. Hearing does not make you righteous though, as your piece says. But if you are indeed righteous your fruit is how we will tell, though, thank God it isn't for us to determine anothers righteous.

Anyway, I tend to leave a thread when those I'm discussing with start throwing aspersions all over the place so I guess we are done here, for now as I always tell you, this not being the first thread you and I have engaged on what I'd like to call a "Thou shalt not be lazy" discussion.

OkCornel, continue the good work and allow the Holy Spirit to do its and you'd find some go off to reflect and see the light if it be what one says is indeed enlightening. Besides, its like the ten lepers. Thousands others read too and the ratio of the grateful, blessed, in this case, by ones words are of the order established in that healing. See these here as one, blessed or not, knowing there's another 9 for every one of them.

No one will ever stumble.
