Spirits in Aso Rock Villa Abuja according to one on the aides of Ex president Goodluck Jonathan is still trending in the political realm in Nigeria. Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari, has replied Reuben Abati, over the latter’s claim that there is some form of witchcraft, which causes occupants of Aso Villa to take weird decisions. Abati in his most recent article titled ‘Rituals, blood and death: The spiritual side of Aso Villa’, said recent happenings in the presidency should give the citizens headache, adding that the place needs redemption urgently. In a response titled ‘The unspiritual side of Aso Villa’, Buhari’s spokesman said: “Reading the piece through, you would think Aso Villa was nothing but what Godfrey Chaucer called “a thoroughfare of woes.” “In fact, Abati submitted that the Villa ‘should be converted into a spiritual museum, and abandoned.’ Holy Moses! Jumping Jehoshaphat! “If Aso Villa was such a haunted house, why then do most occupants like to stay put, right from the first tenant, Ibrahim Babangida, who was virtually forced to step aside in August 1993? And why did Goodluck Jonathan, Abati’s principal, spend money in trillions (in different currencies of the world), just to perpetuate himself in a house that consumes its occupants? “Being a literary scholar, Abati would remember the doctor in Macbeth, that work of William Shakespeare, who was detailed to cure Lady Macbeth of the neurosis that afflicted her, after she had been party to the deaths of King Duncan and Banquo, so that her husband would be the king of Scotland. “A spiritually troubled Lady Macbeth sleepwalked every night, trying to wash her hands of the innocent blood that had been shed. The doctor was so fed up with the terrifying atmosphere, that he said to himself: ‘Were I from Dunsinane away and clear, profit should hardly again draw me here.’ “Did Abati ever say the same of the Villa, a place where men became women “after something died below their waists?” We do not have it on record that Abati showed a clean pair of heels, or that he would not have stayed if Dr Jonathan had won reelection, and had asked him to continue in his position as adviser on media. Or was it the case of eternal fascination for the thing that repelled and terrified you? Mysterium tremendum et fascinas, as it is called in Latin. “For me, what Abati did in the October 14 piece was simply a glorification and deification of superstition, something that attempted to elevate works of darkness above the powers of God. The writer merely fed the cravings and propensity of people for the supernatural, in a way that stoked and kindled the kiln of fear, rather than that of faith. “Let’s take the issues one after the other, and look at them against true spiritual principles. Christianity is the one I am most familiar with, and that would be my benchmark. “In Aso Villa, houses were haunted, people were oppressed into taking curious decisions, they fell ill, died, or suffered the losses of loved ones, so Abati claimed. Are such peculiar only to the presidential villa? Should all those who live or work there automatically enjoy immunity from the vicissitudes of life, simply because they walked the corridors of power? “Wasn’t President Umaru Yar’Adua right inside the presidential villa, when he told us on national television: ‘I am a human being. I can fall sick. I can recover. And I can die.’ That was a practical man for you. I heard history is no more being taught in school this days. Is a very bad thing for a child not to know the history of the nation he or she was born in as a citizen. Well, thank God for internet but yet it is a very bad idea to remove history in the curriculum is schools. But it is the right of a child to earn the history of his/her country. Anyway, back to the lecture at hand. For his uncompromising stance against indiscipline, incorrigible fight against corruption and dying at a relatively young age under a most mysterious circumstance, Major General BABATUNDE ABDULBAKI ‘Tunde’ IDIAGBON has become a legend of sorts and some will say, a martyr and true hero. But who was this stern-looking, Ilorin-born General many said never smiled? Was it true he never smiled? No. He did smile. But why was he feared that much? A lot of Nigerians hate him because he wanted them to be more responsible, more disciplined and more useful. Many soldiers were totally terrified of him. Some others were so petrified at his mere presence that even Babangida, Abacha and his fellow coup plotters could not execute a coup with Idiagbon on Nigerian soil. They had to wait for him to leave the country. Idiagbon was too disciplined, too straight and too honest for corrupt individuals. Today, the society has gone to the dogs and it seems Nigerians are somewhat comfortable with or adapting to, the rot in the society. Or both. The story has started and it was all about 30 years ago. An extremely courageous man, Idiagbon did the unthinkable: he came right back to the country even when he knew clearly that his Commander-in-Chief, Buhari had been deposed, and guns, tanks and battle-ready soldiers would be waiting for him at the airport. Against all advice, he came back to Nigeria, not even an offer of living in a palatial mansion for life of retirement in comfort by the King of Saudi Arabia, Fahd ibn ‘Abd al-‘Azīz Āl Sa‘ūd, could make him stay. He returned to face his enemies (even Gowon did not come back to challenge his foes). Idiagbon was a true General, a no-nonsense one at that. A most loyal friend who made many enemies. He said it would be a honour for him to die beside Buhari, his boss, who saved his life during the civil war. A most caring father. Principled soldier. One never to abandon the warfront in the heat of the battle. He loved Nigeria, fought for Nigeria and today, he may become unsung in the same nation he might have paid the ultimate sacrifice for. Like everyone of us, Idiagbon had his flaws and made his mistakes but that he wanted to make Nigeria a better place is what no one will deny. Not even his sworn enemies. Are you ready to learn more about this gallant soldier and unsung hero of Nigeria? Let’s go! BIRTH AND EARLY DAYS He was born on the 14th of September, 1942 into a very modest Muslim home in Ilorin, Kwara State. His father was Alhaji Hassan Dogo (now of blessed memory) and his mother was Alhaja Ayisatu (Aishat) Iyabeji Hassan Idiagbon. GROWING UP AND EDUCATION He attended United School, Ilorin (1950-1952) and later proceeded to Okesuna Senior Primary School, also in Ilorin between the years 1953 and 1957. APPOINTMENTS AND MILITARY CAREER In the year 1958, he launched his career in the military when he was admitted into the Nigerian Military School, NMS,, Zaria. Later, he attended the Pakistan Military Academy, Kakul (PMA Kakul) in Abbottabad, Pakistan from 1962-1965. PMA Kakul is a two-year accredited federal service military academy that provides for officers of the Pakistan Army and allied nations. Upon finishing, he went for a junior commander course at the Nigerian Military Training College, Kaduna in 1966. From there, he went thus: -Junior Staff Course, Nigerian Army Brigade. -Command and Staff College, Quetta, Pakistan, 1976. -National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos, 1981. -International Defence Management Course, Naval Postgraduate School, USA, 1982 A well-educated man who spoke refined English, he also bagged a bachelors degree in Economics from the Pakistani Military Academy. In addition to this, he was an associate member of the Nigerian Institute of Management and also had a diploma in Senior International Defence Management. Although Idiagbon came to the height of national prominence when Buhari became head of state, he had actually being a member of military governments (the regimes of Yakubu Gowon, Murtala Muhammed and Olusegun Obasanjo). Under General Obasanjo, Idiagbon was appointed as the Military Administrator of Borno State. His rise through the ranks in the military was as follows: -Enlisted as Officer Cadet, 1962 -Commissioned Second Lieutenant, April 1965 -Lieutenant, 1966 -Captain, 1968 -Major, 1970 (at the end of the Nigerian Civil War) -Lieutenant Colonel, 1974 -Colonel, July 1978 -Brigadier, May 1980 -Company Commander, 4 Battalion (August 1965-February 1966) -Intelligence Officer, 4 Battalion -General Staff Officer, 3 Intelligence, 1 Sector -Commanding Officer, 20 Battalion (October 1967-February 1968) -Commanding Officer, 125 Battalion, 1968-1970 -Brigade Major and Deputy Commander, 33 Brigade (March 1970 – March 1971) -Commander, 29 Brigade (March 1971 – December 1972) -General Staff Officer, Grade 1 & later, Principal Staff Officer (PSO), Supreme Headquarters (January 1973 – August 1975) -Brigade Commander, 31 and 15 Brigades (August 1975 – August 1978). As the Commander of the 15 Brigade, he was also a Member of the Governing Council, University of Jos (UNIJOS), Plateau State. -Appointed Military Governor of Borno State, August 1978 – 1st October 1979 (during the same period, he was also the Commander of the 33 Brigade and Member of the National Council of State under the Obasanjo junta). -Director of Manpower (Manning) and Planning, Army Headquarters, October 1979 – February 1981 -Military Secretary, Nigerian Army, 1981-1983 -Appointed Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters (de facto Vice President), 31st December, 1983 – August 27th, 1985. RULING NIGERIA WITH BUHARI Following the ouster of the Alhaji Shehu Shagari government on the 31st December, 1983, Idiagbon rose to the post of the Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters and the defacto Vice President (arguably, he held more power and commanded more authority than any other deputy in the history of Nigeria). He was responsible for enforcing many of the government policies and spearheaded the national campaign called the War Against Indiscipline (WAI), with WAI brigades all over the country. Under his leadership, Nigerians were forced to form queue at bus stops, clean and maintain tidy environments, ensure public decorum and exhibit various forms of discipline, even if many of us still grumble at the policies today, Idiagbon showed that with a strong and decisive leader in charge, Nigerians will surely fall in line. Under WAI, there was the Environmental Sanitation Exercise, and on the last Saturday of each month, you see cities competing to do ‘environmental’ and get Idiagbon’s commendations. NIGERIA’S NO-NONSENSE VICE PRESIDENT As the de facto Vice President of Nigeria, Idiagbon spearheaded some policies that many Nigerians have translated as some of the most extreme and stringent in the nation’s history. And they have their reasons. Idiagbon pursued the policy of War Against Indiscipline with a ruthless zeal and determination that will put Turkmenistan’s Saparmurat Niyazov to shame. Civil servants must be punctual, arriving work at the strike of the clock and for those who were unfortunate enough to arrive late, they were made to do frog jumps by soldiers wielding kobokos (horsewhips). He also led by example by being very punctual in office. Not a few civil servants fainted, some out of sheer exhaustion while others succumbed to the sheer fear and terror of Idiagbon’s goons. It did not end there. If you cheated in exams or cut power cables and you were caught, consider yourself corned beef. Under him, the law respected no one. When Fela was caught at the airport with more foreign cash than was stipulated by law, he was promptly arrested and made to face the music, just that it was not Afrobeat. In a very interesting exclusive interview, actor Uti Nwachukwu says he cannot act nude in any movie because as a man, the only thing you can hold sacred is your p***s. The Big Brother star said that his respect for his body stopped him from showing off his penile area during shower hour when he was in the Big Brother house, as he believes that the only person who deserves to see his full nudity is the person he is sleeping with. "Honestly if I have to do that, it will be the kind of money to put me in a position where I don’t have to lift a finger again. There’s something sacred about my nudity. Even at big brother when they showered naked, I never showered naked. I always had my boxers on. If my nudity is brought out to the public, it’ll definitely be against my will or a situation where I was tricked. As a man, the only thing you can hold sacred is your penis so if everyone sees your penis, there’s no sacred thing you can hold unto. That’s see finish and I’m not comfortable with that even with that $1B. In the future, you’re going to have kids in the future. We have to preserve our sense of decency and conservation. I’m not judgmental, won’t judge anyone but I want to have something that will leave people guessing. The only person that should see my penis is who I’m sleeping with" Read full interview @ http://www.exlinklodge.com/2016/10/as-man-only-thing-you-can-hold-sacred.html cc mynd44 lalasticlala missyb

She promised she is going to see the end of this and she is keeping true to her words. Femi Fani Kayode’s wife, Precious Chikwendu, has said that the statement issued by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding the freezing of her Access Bank account is a blatant lie. She said that the account had been dormant since 2012, and was only re-activated in 2016. According to her, the sum of N295,000 was all that was in the account prior to her arrest on Monday. Meanwhile, in its earlier official statement the EFCC had said that: “Following the discovery of illicit cash flows into the account, she was intercepted by the bank while the Commission was notified, but because it was late, the EFCC advised that the suspect be taken to the police station for processing and release on bail”. It went ahead to say that “the said account, which had a balance of N2,307,712.82, was flagged following investigation into the PDP Joint Trust Fund when the commission traced N1.1bn to the Zenith Bank account of Fani-Kayode”. Read Chikwendu’s full statement signed by her Special Assistant, Chineye Okechukwu, below: “The assertion by one Wilson Uwa who is supposed to be the spokesman of the EFCC that Precious Chikwendu’s Access Bank account was used to launder Jonathan campaign funds or funds from the NSA’s office and that approximately 2.4 million naira balance was found in the said account at the time of her arrest is a lie from the pit of hell. The said account was opened in 2005 at Onitsha when Precious Chikwendu was about to start at the University of Calabar. At that time it was not known as Access Bank but Intercontinental Bank. The account was used by her from 2005 till 2012 when it was abandoned and went dormant. It was not utilised or activated again until August 2016 when small deposits of between 200,000 and 500,000 were made into it and the total amount that entered into that account over a period of 2 months was approximately. The money was spent on looking after the family, paying staff salaries and to buy groceries. Consequently at the time that the account was frozen last Friday, the amount that was left in it was 95,000. She was not notified about the freezing of the account until someone paid 200,000 into it on Saturday. The money entered the account but after that it could not be accessed. She decided to stop at the bank on her way out of Ado Ekiti on Monday in order to know what was going on and she was then detained and offered to the police and EFCC, together with her 8 month old son Aragorn, for arrest. The total amount that was in the account at the time of the arrest was 295,000 naira which is approximately 600 USD. Partly the reason why every Nigerians wants to be in politics and still as much as they can is because if you serve Nigeria diligently, they don't take care of their own. A former Nigerian ambassador to Egypt and Iran in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Ambassador Umar Bashir Wali, has cried out to the federal authorities over his N2, 400 monthly pension. The retired diplomat stated that he served Nigeria all his life till 1st January 1990 when he retired from civil service on grade level 16 as a Nigerian ambassador and when his pension was about N50,000. He added that even with the several reforms on the pensions sector, his monthly pension kept shrinking instead of increasing, to the extent of being stopped for years. “Even as a retired ambassador who served this nation for 36 years, for eight years, I had been receiving N1, 800 as my monthly pension and later it was increased to N2, 400; that is what I have been given as my pension in the last eight years. “I am 82 years and weak. I have written several complaints to pension office in Abuja to no avail. I have also gone there on several occasions to complain on the same issue. I have written and they promised to rectify but up till this moment nothing has been done about it. “I am appealing to authorities concerned to as a matter of fairness look into this issue,” Ambassador Bashir Wali told Daily Trust. In response to the former ambassador’s case, the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has said that the payment of the outstanding retirement benefits of Ambassador Umar Bashir Wali is awaiting approval. The Head of Corporate Communications of the Directorate, Theodora Amechi said the pensioner was verified in November 2015 during a Civil Service Verification Exercise in Kano and his outstanding benefits processed. “The pensioner supplied affidavits for his letter of first appointment and letter of retirement which delayed the resolution of his complaint,” she said. NB: This is the reason why every politician wants to still and lot, our police, navy, immigration and all government arms and forces wants to get all they can while they are still serving. Nigeria seems not to be taken care of their own. This is pathetic. more @ http://www.exlinklodge.com/2016/10/retired-ambassador-cries-out-to-federal.html cc lalasticlala mynd44 missyb

Almost everybody in Nigeria are happy over the release of few Chibok girls few days ago. However, things are still unfolding as the govt. have learnt recently that the 21 freed Chibok Girls on Sunday in Abuja said for “one month and 10 days’’ of their abduction by the Boko Haram insurgents they stayed without food in the bush. Ms Gloria Dame, one of the rescued girls, narrated this while giving testimony on behalf of her colleaques at a thanks giving service organised for them at a DSS health facility in Abuja. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, and Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Jummai Alhassan, attended the service. The girl, who spoke in Hausa language, said that their survival in captivity was an act of God. “I did not know that a day like this will come that we will be dancing and giving thanks to God among people. “For one month and 10 days we stayed without food. I narrowly escaped bomb blast in the forest. “We are praying to God to touch the heart of Boko Haram to repent and we are calling on Nigerians to pray and fast for the release of our remaining ones in captivity,’’ she said. Reports says that while the service was going on, the parents of the freed girls arrived the venue and were reunited with their loved ones after over two years of their abduction. With the arrival of the parents the environment was charged with emotion and tears of joy. NAN reports that the parents took turn to address the congregation and thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and all Nigerians for their efforts and prayers towards the rescue of their daughters. The Chairman of Chibok Local Government Council, Mr Yaga Yarakawa, said the release of the girls was “historic’’ and the Chibok community at home and in the Diaspora were happy about the development. Yarakawa said contrary to views of some Nigerians, the 21 freed girls were the actual Chibok Secondary School girls kidnapped by Boko Haram. “Before their abduction, I was involved in supervising their feeding which was organised by the Borno State Secondary Schools Feeding System. So I know them very well. “These are the real girls and you can see when their parents came, you see their joy, it manifest naturally. complete article @ http://www.exlinklodge.com/2016/10/released-chibok-girls-claim-they-stayed.html missyb

Actor Segun Arinze is a well known name in the movie industry and even in comedy because most of our Nigerian comedians have used him as an object of mockery in their comedy sections. So if you don't know him, it means you were born yesterday. He is a Nigerian actor and singer, born in the year 1965. The actor who is referred to as black arrow by some of his fans started his acting career in Ilorin over a decade ago. In a recent appearance as a guest on a TV show, The Gist, he voiced his concerns on the new set of Nollywood actors. The veteran actor mentioned that modern-day Nollywood is harbouring what he termed pretentious, social media stars. He shared his idea of an ideal actor. In his opinion, new Nollywood actors are not well grounded in the arts as acting requires constant practice and proper education as opposed to free-styling. He said: “most of these guys are pretentious. They are only interested in who has the highest number of likes or followers on their social media platforms. Most of them are not even disciplined and they lack the knowledge. They only want to be popular.” more @ http://www.exlinklodge.com/2016/10/segun-arinze-blasts-actors-actresses.html cc lalasticlala mynd44 missyb
