Christianity EtcRe: Should Christians Celebrate Birthdays? by Candour(m): 1:08pm On May 18, 2013
If her denomination doesn't celebrate birthdays, that is their choice. It doesn't make you less a child of God because you do.there is no place in the bible where you're asked not to celebrate occasions that are special to you.its your decision to make.

Personally i dont pay attention to celebrations as i find them cumbersome.nothing to do with spirituality my sister.to me,they are just another day in the calendar.

Christianity EtcRe: Is The Bible Confusing? by Candour(m): 4:37pm On May 17, 2013
God bless u a million times my brother for this post.

I didn't start understanding the bible until i learnt to rightly divide the word of truth as you explained above.Christians need to start paying attention to what a particular text is saying and also what it doesn't say.

For instance luke 18:31-34 shows that the real plan of the cross was hidden from the 12.who could have hidden it? God of course. This partly explains why they didn't go the gentiles as only the shed blood could bring the gentiles into the plan of God whereas national Isreal only needed to believe he was the promised seed of David to restore the glory of Isreal.Deut 29:29 shows its God prerogative to hide things and thats what he did with this plan.Paul called it a mystery in 1 cor 2:7.

Peter finally opened up in 2 Peter 3:15-16 that he too found some of Paul's revelation hard to understand. This was because it wasn't revealed to him.

Cant type much as I'm using a phone.i pray brethren pls take some time to read this write up and try to explore the bible in this format.you'll be surprised what you'll find.

God bless us all as we strive to know more of him.

Christianity EtcRe: Visions Exposing The Plans Of The Enemy To Hinder Christians From Rapture by Candour(m): 3:35pm On May 10, 2013
This is Fear mongering at it's worst.

The bible has told us exactly how to prepare for the Lord's coming. You dont need extra-biblical sources to remind you.Now you want people to run away from packaged foods, vaccines etc Haba!! How are you different from Boko Haram who prevent Northern Nigerian children from getting vaccinated saying it is meant to stop muslims from growing in population?

How have you verified that the brother is not hallucinating? Are you sure of the spirit @ work in him?

What if i told you that my pastor had a vision that every one who posted on Nairaland before 8.00am today(Yes...OP including you) will go to hell because Seun installed a software that initiated them automatically into a blood sucking secret cult? would you believe me?

Pls let us open our bibles to clarify things we are not clear about and stop encouraging weirdos.

The commercialization of the church is nothing to be proud of and millions continue to be deceived and fleeced on a daily basis. Its a very sad commentary.
Christianity EtcRe: Lying Wonders by Candour(m): 9:11am On May 10, 2013
Thanks a lot OP.

If only Christians will stop once in a while to check, recheck and crosscheck all the visions, prophecies and miracles supposedly done by their MOG.Maybe they'll be able to know what most of these mere mortals actually are:FRAUDS.

You see children of God bought by the precious blood of Christ signing away their liberty in the spirit to some charlatan in the name of searching for healing, financial breakthrough and miraculous power.Forgetting that these are all temporal things and what actually matters is their final destination(Matt 6:19-21)

my earnest wish and prayer is that folks will start reading their bibles and know that they too have a direct line to God as Jesus Christ paid it all
Christianity EtcRe: Femi Aribisala: Every Pastor Who Collects Tithes Is A Thief by Candour(m): 7:52am On May 10, 2013
ogeelove: I am not adept at the words in the bible so forgive me if I project ignorance but i would like to know.
God bless you my sister.we all dont know by ourselves but we must trust the bible to tell us.i expected our discussants here to treat your queries, but so far they've skipped it most likely due to an oversight.

What tribe made up the priestly order, the levites?
The tribe of Levi, the 3rd son of Jacob were consecrated to do the service.Num 8:6,11, Num 18:1-2

Who received tithes, levites?
Yes.The levites received Tithes( Num 18:21,24) because they were exempted from having inheritance in the land(Num 18:23).The Levites then paid a Tithe from the Tithe they received from the Isrealites to the priests who were also Levites but from the family of Aaron(Num 18:26-28,Neh 10:38)

Where did the priests officiate, at the temple in jerusalem?
Yes.That is where God chose for isreal to seek him(Deut 12:5-7)

Where were tithes paid to, the temple in Jerusalem?
Yes.Deut 12:5-7,Deut 14:23,25

To what tribe did Paul belong, Benjamin?
Yes.Phil 3:5

To what tribe did Peter belong? This I really do not know.
I dont know either but we can both agree it wasn't Levi

Did Paul attend customs at the temple? From acts 21:26 (The next day Paul took the men and purified himself along with them. Then he went to the temple to give notice of the date when the days of purification would end and the offering would be made for each of them.) It seems to me DAT he did.
you are right sister. He did as he didn't want the Jews to think he had stopped being a Jew.He only knew those rituals had no power to save him.He was also heeding James's advice in Acts 21:20-26 so that peace could reign @ Jerusalem

Did Peter attend customs at the temple? from Acts 3:1 (Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.) It seems to me DAT he did.
Yes he did

If Peter and Paul were fully aware of GOD's law and were not levites would they have received tithes being DAT they still attended the temple? If they did, Would DAT not mean they were disobeying GOD? wouldn't there have been an uproar from their Jewish antagonists?
There would have been more than an uproar.they might have been stoned to death or scourged pitifully.everybody knows the Jews dont play with the Torah

These are questions that I am pondering, please clarify if u can.
i hope i tried answering your inquiries

I wonder if the present day Jews tithe now that there is no temple in Jerusalem and no levitical priestly order. This I must research.
pls go ahead with your research dear sister, you'll discover like i did that TITHES are no longer Paid in Jerusalem today as there's no functioning priesthood due to the destruction of the temple.

Thank you

Congrats a million times dear bro Goshen.i wish you more of goodies like this in Jesus name.I'm sure Goshen is sharing this good news to show once again that 'he who freely delivered up his son for us,how shall he not also freely give us all things?'(Romans 8:32).It is not in how many tithes, seeds or offerings etc but its just by God's mercy.Goshen was happy before the green card came and he's still happy now because he has the testimony of all testimonies:being a child of God.

what i got from shdemidemi's post is that our relationship with God supercedes whatever temporary success we might be enjoying(green card inclusive).I believe Goshen himself knows this.Nothing in this world is worth the value we place on it as it can't measure up to eternity.I trust he's indeed happy that our brother got one of his heart desires as the bible says to 'rejoice with those who rejoice'

Congrats my bro....once again grin cheesy

the entire moral fabric of society is broken down. Its not only in Nigeria as even western nations are having similar problems with their youth.Nigera's own is very bad because the problem just came to meet already deeply entrenched poverty of pocket, poverty of mind, poverty of health etc.

It's not a question of prayer but a determination by us all to make a difference starting from our homes and our personal lives.

Tell your younger brother he shoudln't scam you to buy himself a blackberry porsche he can't service as he's still a student dependent on others for his upkeep.

Tell your younger sister to stop changing her FB pictures every hour as that would add nothing to her mental development which is needed if she hopes to be a person of true value in life.Brains and beauty make a good combination you know

Tell your pastor to stop harping on the no of his private jets, the balance in his account or the number of you and your fellow worshippers he has succeded in bringing under his tent as it will not remedy the situation in the country nor gaurantee he is actually known of God

Tell your Imam to strap himself with the bomb next time the virgins in heaven need a pious brother or is he a eunuch who can't touch women? There are imams and muslims in Dubai u know and i'm sure they read the same Qur'an

Tell your Father the government official that the monies he has piled up is more than enough to last your own great grand children. He can step aside and let other people try their own hands at fixing the country

Tell yourself that money, fame and possesions are not everything in life. The best things in life are not necessarily things.

Finally let us learn to respect others, their rights and their opinions. If we all do this,we'll start the journey to recovery i believe.

Bidam: stick to the OP we are actually discussing the sabbath and how Jesus explained it.
we're NOT discussing Sabbath. We're discussing the Torah and how it relates to Christians except you're telling me Sabbath is the totality of the Torah

and what the you understand by the moral laws and other laws and ordinances that govern the nation of isreal during moses time.pls explain how that reconciled with what Jesus said in matt 5:17-48. don't tell me he completely abolish them in that verse.
Ok let me agree with you that Jesus did not abolish the Torah and we are meant to be observing it today. Can you tell me if you keep all the laws of the Torah as enunciated from Deut chapter 12 to Deut chapter 27?

Matt 22:37-40
'Is Jesus summarising the law here or abolishing it?
this is a big lie and you know it.
'Is love not a summary and fulfillment of the law and the prophets?
Jesus is telling you here that you don't need to read the torah to know what God wants. If love guides all your actions, you would not hurt your neighbour with fornication, adultery, stealing, covetousness, lying, bearing false witness etc etc.

Once you love your neighbour, you have kept the law

Bidam: and why quote only deut 12? why not quote the entire OT(Torah) to buttress your arguments? i still maintain my stand on act 15:21.
Deut chapter 12 to Chapter 27 is what i said bro.Not just Chapter 12

Acts 15:21 does not say what you are trying to make it say

Acts 15:21
'For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogue every sabbath day'

How does this ask you a Gentile Christian to observe the Torah?
I believe in God, but I don't think he is what religion had made him to be. If he is what religion has made him to be, then he is everying we say he is and everythin we say he is not.

But back to topic, I think the question shuld be, if he is real why are u worked up? U see this question can b turned back to u. If he is real do u have to evangelize, preach in buses etc just to convince people he is real? If he is real everybody will b convinced he is real by a natural self awareness. U don't have to argue with anybody, no body would have doubted his existance.

That being said, I think God is God for God's sake but not for our sake. We are who we are for our own sake, bringing God in our daily life is just a burden we chose to carry, it changes noting.
@OP.
True. Some so-called atheist are at best skeptics who are in turmoil about religion. This is normal as we encounter things we can't explain on a daily basis but i dont think only atheists are worked up.Some so-called Christians are actually worse.

You're right to an extent frank3.16.we Christians are more worked up than some Atheists.Apostle Paul advised in Phil 4:6 that we be anxious for nothing. We should be the most serene of individuals but alas, the venom with which we attack supposed opponents and defend our various churches and MOG's does not portray people who have inner peace at all.

We've seen Christianity as a way of escape from the current state of affairs in our country so we bend God to fit in.When it goes otherwise,we become schizophrenic at trying to explain what we think the cause is.Some even lie to defend God in the process.see the verses below
John 16:33
''These things i have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation:but be of good cheer;i have overcome the world''

Timothy 3:12
''yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution''

We are not promised a rose petaled pathway when we become Christians.Infact true Christians are told to expect more troubles.

I saw your post about losing your fiance in that accident on benin-ore road and i've followed your write ups since then.take heart brother.evil and good happen to both good and bad people weather a christian, muslim, pagan or atheist as long as you're on this earth. There are some things we can't explain on this side of eternity and we'll only weary ourselves trying to.
Christianity EtcRe: Antagonists Of The Gospel Of Infinite Grace; Answer This Question!! by Candour(m): 9:36am On May 07, 2013
Bidam: This is just going round in circles. we have dealt about this things in almost all of goshen threads and i told him my stand as expanded by Jesus Christ the great Rabbi which is found in Mathew 5 :17-48 which ofcos by default is an OT scripture.
see what you wrote

Bidam: As an Orthodox Rabbi, Paul taught that Torah was indeed for Gentiles -- not for salvation, but as the direction they should be encouraged to follow subsequent to coming to faith. (As i mentioned, this was proclaimed by the Jerusalem council in Acts 15:21).
and i asked if you meant the same Torah summarized in Deut chapter 12 through 27? This will immediately throw up a question which is how many of them do you and i keep today? hint:we have 613 of them

Jesus sermon in matt 5:17-48 does not encapsulate the Torah as the Torah included the laws and the ordinances.all he dealt with there are summarized thus

Matt 22:37-40
''Jesus said unto him, thou shalt love the Lord they God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.Ant the second is like unto it,Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.on these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets''

Jesus gave a new commandment just before he left for the cross and that is what is refered to as the law of Christ.it has nothing to do with the Torah. It emphasizes the crux of matt 5:17-48 and matt 22:37-40

John 13:34
''A new commandment i give unto you,That ye love one another:as i have loved you, that ye also love one another''
Christianity EtcRe: Antagonists Of The Gospel Of Infinite Grace; Answer This Question!! by Candour(m): 8:34am On May 07, 2013
Bidam: In the New Testament there is a term that is used that describe Torah observant non-Jews as "God-fearers". These are gentiles who have not (yet) fully converted to Judaism; but have attached themselves to the Israel as the people of Adonai. Cornelius, the Centurion in Acts 10 fits this definition.

There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always.
(Act 10:1-2 KJV
)

Understanding this term "God-fearer" to be a common idiom for a gentile who has attached himself to the Jewish faith, we find them present in the synagogue at Antioch in Acts 13:16 where Paul addresses the gentiles specifically present in the audience.

The same thing occurred in Iconium, where Paul and Barnabas went into the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks became believers (Acts 14:1).

That very night the believers sent Paul and Silas off to Beroea; and when they arrived, they went to the Jewish synagogue. These Jews were more receptive than those in Thessalonica, for they welcomed the message very eagerly and examined the scriptures every day to see whether these things were so. Many of them therefore believed, including not a few Greek women and men of high standing (Acts 17:10-12).

While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply distressed to see that the city was full of idols. So he argued in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and also in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be there (Acts 17:16-17).

Every sabbath [Paul] would argue in the synagogue and would try to convince Jews and Greeks. (Acts 18:4).

Now, if someone is bent on their position, these verses may be dissected to argue that the discussions with Jews and gentiles were separate; but this does not fit historical evidence.

Falvius Josephus records Greeks being invited to participate in Jewish worship and festivals during the Antiochan period (before the Judaims was illegal and the Maccabean revolt).
Ok my brother.Let me agree with you that indeed Gentiles were part of the synagogue congregation though i believe they would have to be proselytes of Judaism for that to be possible.you yourself called them devout and God-fearing.

the important questions which you didn't answer is reproduced below

You mean we Gentiles on being born again should follow the Torah?? Hope you know the Torah contains 613 laws in all.How many of them do you and i keep today? for a summary of the Torah see Deut chapters 12 through 27.

Note the below

The sentence of the Jerusalem Council is outlined by James in Acts 15:19-20 and Acts 15:28-29 and it stipulates only 4 donts.

As an aside,i'm happy you're also quoting non biblical sources to buttress your historical argument. My brother has reconciled with Wikipedia and Google grin

Acts 15:21 you referenced talks about Moses(the law) being read in the synagogues.Gentiles are strangers and are excluded from the assembly of the Jews. Its a strictly Jewish affair.

The sentence of the Jerusalem Council is outlined by James in Acts 15:19-20 and Acts 15:28-29 and it stipulates only 4 donts.
Christianity EtcRe: Antagonists Of The Gospel Of Infinite Grace; Answer This Question!! by Candour(m):
Bidam: My understanding of the book of Galatians is that there were recent Jewish converts who had an incorrect or incomplete view of faith/salvation.
Actually, the Galatian church was predominately Gentile Christian founded in the city of Galatia up in asia minor which is present day Turkey. They were converted through Paul's preaching from a chiefly pagan background. However Judaizers had started infiltrating them and telling them in addition to faith in the saving blood of Christ, they also had to keep the law of Moses(Torah) just like they did to the Gentile Christians in Antioch(Acts 15:1)

This is shown in several places including; 2:3-5; 3:1-4; 5:2-11 and 6:12-15. These people were telling new Galatians converts that you had to do certain things for salvation, other than trust in God through Jesus. They were of the same faction mentioned in Acts 15.
i am in agreement with you here.

Note however, that these men also had an incorrect idea on what Paul was in fact teaching, accusing him of teaching against the Torah. If ever Paul had the opportunity to show that we no longer had to follow the Torah, this was it -- However, Paul denied the charge that he taught against Torah in the strongest way possible, by taking a Nazarite vow (Acts 21:21-26). This involved him performing sacrifices and offerings (Numbers 6:1-21).
The crux of this book is Paul telling these Gentile converts that they had no business with the Torah.the charge Paul denied was the accusation that he was teaching Jews who were among Gentiles to forget about Moses.see
Acts 21:21
''And they are informed of thee, that thou teachest all the Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.''

The position of the Apostles on how the Law relates to the Gentiles had already been settled at the Jerusalem council in Acts 15:1-31 which is Gentile Christians(you,i and every other contributor on this thread) had no business with the Torah.

When Paul shaved his head and performed the sacrifices,it was to show to James and the rest of Isreal that he was not against the Torah himself being a Jew however,Gentile believers like you and i have no business with it otherwise we should still be re-enacting those sacrifices that Paul and obviously the apostles still practiced.this confirms that the 12 Apostles in Jerusalem were still neck deep in Judaism hence confirming what Paul said in
Gal 2:7
''But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision(Gentile audience) was committed unto me,as the gospel of the circumcision(Jewish audience) was unto Peter:''

Paul had the gospel of uncircumcision(Grace) while peter had the gospel of circumcision(based on the law and prophets)

Paul's message to the Galatians is to remind them of the correct equation:

Torah-based faith + Nothing Else = Salvation

This is the same message Moses gave his people in his day.
Gal 3:7
''Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham''

Abraham was justified(Gen 15:6,Rom 4:3)500 years before Moses appeared with the law.It wasn't Torah based and since we are linked directly to Abraham(Gal 3:14),we too are justified without the Torah.

The correct equation is simply Faith + Nothing else=Salvation

Paul does discuss "lifestyle" at the end of this letter. In Galatians 5:16-22, Paul makes a comparison between "walking in the spirit" and "walking in the flesh." He defines those who walk in flesh in verses 19-21 (adulterers, fornicators, sorcerers, etc.) What do those all have in common? They are all transgressions of the Torah. They are violators of the "negative commandments" of the Torah.
Yes Paul does discuss lifestyle of the flesh and it all stems from a lack of love.If you love God,surely you'll love your Neighbour and if you love your Neighbour, adultery, fornication, sorcery will not come close to you.A born again Christian is one who has received new nature(2 Cor5:17) and the spirit of God which suppresses the love of the things of the flesh enumerated in Gal 5:20-21.In Gal 5:22-23,Paul lists the fruit of the Spirit and concludes that no law can find fault with this. How can somebody who has the temperance(self control) of the spirit ever seek for illicit pleasure through adultery or fornication? it doesn't add up.

The Law was our schoolmaster(Gal 3:24) letting us know what God doesn't like and our inability to do good by our self but the Spirit of God empowers us not to run foul of the law by helping us express true love for God and our neighbours through the fruits of the spirit.Jesus Christ summed up the totality of the law when he said ''Love God and love your Neighbour as yourself''

Any 'CHRISTIAN' who sees nothing wrong in SIN as partially enumerated in Gal 5:20-21 is very doubtful.

Because modern interpretation of Scripture is founded on a Greek/western approach and not a Hebrew one, verse after verse in the "New Testament" are stripped from the original context in which the Torah-observant authors wrote them. In place of this, an anti-Torah "spin" has been placed on the Word of the God of Israel.
taking what the scripture says without trying to make it say what we think it should say will help us mitigate this problem.

peace my brother

Ihedinobi: The bolded is one thing that I have no pleasure in. When we come together as we do on forums like this, it is not to impress with erudition. The show of knowledge can easily take the place of Love which edifies. When I give what I have received, I am also in hope that I will receive what anothwr has been given. But when it becomes a show and wrestling of wits, Christ is not even remotely glorified.
Dont worry ihedinobi,i have no interest in flattering you.i love the way the the discussion has been handled and i chose to express it.

With regard to Grace, I will say to you what I said to Goshen on another thread as a summary. Grace means nothing without the Law.
You are not wrong. The law showed us why we needed grace.

It is because we are incapable of meeting God's Standard on our own that God offers to satisfy in our own behalf the demands of His Holiness. That is Grace. The Law reveals this Standard of His and also shows us our inability to meet it. If we did not know it, we would not try to meet it. If we did not try to meet it, we would not realize that we couldn't. If we do not realize that we can't even though we must, we cannot appreciate our need for help.
True talk. Not in dispute because 'by the deeds of the law shall no flesh be justified'.Christ offered us his righteousness when he called us that we might become the righteousness of God in him.

If we do not appreciate our need for help, we can neither ask for it nor accept it when it is offered. That help is Grace.
sure.It is that Grace that gives us justification before God despite our feeble attempts at keeping the law.God's grace justifies us and makes as if we have never sinned.

Ihedinobi: If you know where it's headed, then you're not a student. You're a master. smiley

We may not reach a compromise here. Experience has taught me that we believers are ordinarily rather like a dog with a bone with our favorite doctrines. I understand that too because at each stage of development that we're at, there are certain understandings that are necessary to our growth. And we do not let them go easily. However, it is the way of the Lord to keep putting out calls to take us higher than those stages and beyond those understandings.

That is what my work here is. I will give what I have been given, tell what I have been told, pour out what I have received and trust the Lord to enlighten the hearers of His Word.

Finally, indeed it is true that we are converging on Grace but not as greater than anything else. Rather we are coming to the real meaning of Grace and how it relates to the Law.

Master ke?? shocked shocked i'm a student o grin grin

I dont think this issue needs much analysis.Even a literal i.d.i.o.t will realise this is a fraud of gargantuan proportions....but then maybe idiocy can be raised to another level by someone trying to justify this.

The sad thing is that this money will surely be raised within the stated time frame and largely contributed by those who actually need the help.

How can a man's conscience be this dead? how? cry cry cry

Christianity EtcRe: An Invitation To Ayoku777 For A Q&A Session by Candour(m): 8:38pm On Apr 29, 2013
ayoku777: On the issue of tithing, personally I don't tithe. In Lev 18, when God gave instructions about tithing, the High priest and the Priests(those born of the priest) were omitted from the responsibility.

Tithing is like a religious tax paid to God in return for the blessings received from the inheritance of the land he gave to his people. Now priest had no inheitance in the land, God was the inheritance of the High priest and the priest v20 and the blessing of the anointing was their portion in God v8, of which not tithing is required in return.

Now, under the New covenant, Jesus is the High priest in the order of Melchizedek and everyone born of Him through faith is a priest together with Him. So the issue is no more whether the tithing has been abolished or not, the issue now is that every believer in Christ has been elevated to the spiritual class of people who are exempted from the responsibility of tithing.

So we should encourage christians to give to God's work and to the poor, that should never go out of fashion, but tithing is no more a new testament responsibilty. If God blessed you after you tithed, he blessed for giving, not for tithing
@the bolded

CLASSIC!!!

Goshen360: You're right bro. We don't promote men but Christ. However, we reference and honour those who labour WELL in the word. I can't testify, bro. Les Feldick is very very sound and rich...no tithe teachings also.

I do not endorse him not because he doesn't teach tithe only, but he is a Grace teacher, a New Testament teacher, simple lifestyle and uses scriptures to explain or interpret scriptures.

I also know one powerful teacher of the word, in my library. I will send to you and some other brethren like bro. "midemide", Ayoku777, DrummaBoy etc. That guy I'm talking about is crazily drunk in the the word of God. I will email you. grin
no wahala.will be expecting it
