FamilyRe: Who You Marry Is Important For Your Community by cfours: 7:18am On Mar 30, 2012
dayokanu: Deols,

Have you noticed that Black women are generally fairer than men?

Even among siblings females are usually fairer than male
So if you even want to marry your own twin sister, you would still be accused of marrying a woman fairer than you
you keep making the same stupid argument.
females are only half a shade (or less) fairer than men on average. the difference is small and it's not considered significant nor noticeable.
look at this pic of a brother and sister pair for an example
https://www.painetworks.com/photos/iq/iq1806.JPG

For you to have weird ideas about female skin color, I am 100% sure that your mother and sisters must be bleaching their skin. I'm sorry about that.

most nigerians don't think that.
where do you get your idea from? huh

besides, nobody cares that you are a ghanaian on a nigerian page. there are quite a few non-nigerians here. African americans, oyinbos, liberians, gambians ghanaians etc. Welcome to NL!!

igbo2011: I don;'t care what the language is as long as iti s African. I don't want to see African langauges die. We need to speak our langauges.

There are also Yorubas in Brazil who still have Yoruba gods and keep the language. Also, where is your source for 100 million Hausa and Yoruba speakers?
African languages are not going to die anytime soon. that's for sure. so long as we are not developing.
If we become "developed", then there will be a cause for concern. grin

most people on this website for example, are educated english speaking folks from middle class upbringing. so we are "developed" compared to the average or poor African who are the true guardian of our language and traditions. grin

queensmith: Nobody owes anybody anything, once we have this understanding we can move forward peacefully. Black men do not owe it to black women, black women are not responsible for black men. Each needs to start respecting his and her own.
The women need to stop this undeserved loyalty. Be proud of who they are, what they stand for and stop intimidating men of other race. Men that respect thier women, dont make fun of their hair, dont disrespect them, dont take pride in being bad fathers and men that actually do things for society. Than those that, as someone delightfully put it, sit at the rear end of the the totem pole.

I think once that's understood, nobody will care who black men choose to marry!
On a strictly personal level you are correct. but we are not talking solely about the personal level. we are discussing how our personal choices affect us on the community level. a nice white guy complimenting my hair and asking me out on a date is different from the topic at hand which is more about socio-economic power and community leverage among minority ethnic groups.

ex. Asians own 90% of all businesses in black neighborhoods. most of the businesses are family enterprises. is that a surprise?

dayokanu: And her comment is that Black men are the reasons why there are no succeful black community in diaspora?

How lame.

The succesful black women have justifiable reasons to marry someone from other race like she stated but the succesful black men are not allowed to do that, Whenever they do, they are accused of thinking with whats between their legs.

Maybe her questions and anger should be directed at the Whoopi, Oluchis, Imanis, Regina Askias, Kate henshaws etc
check the statistics.
for every Imani, there are fifty Tiger Woods.
also look around you at your real life environment. most successful communities are made up of professionals and business men/women. not celebrities.

dayokanu: Read this link
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-535828/Why-men-prefer-fair-skinned-maidens-women-like-dark-handsome-strangers.html
Notice that it address people of different races and not blacks alone
this is very senseless post.
women tend to be naturally only about half a shade to a shade fairer than men (ex. among siblings, the girl is usually a bit fairer)
but black men tend to prefer women 10 shades fairer than them lipsrsealed that is usually unnatural. hence the popularity of bleaching creams among black women.

but that is not the point of this topic. This topic is talking more about the nonexistence of successful black communities in diaspora and telling us the reason why. Only a person in denial will disagree with her comment.

@ topic

i wonder why there are still black people, actually.

how do they manage to remain black despite all the centuries of concerted efforts to remove them as well as the crab barrel mentality commonly found with them.
poor people are more likely to increase in population. They pose no threat to anyone.ex. jailbirds, ghetto trash, baby daddies and baby mommies.
successful people tend to be the ones threatened with extinction that's why they need to work hard and intentionally at keeping themselves alive. ex Jews in the past.

northerners are no worse than southerners. we are all bloody pigs.
this goes with the rest of humanity with the exception of some naturally peaceful peoples ( Hawaiians come to mind. gosh I want to live there lol)

@Nchara,
that's your perspective. A northerner will also have his perspective that's just as valid but their voices are absent from Nairaland which makes this website and most southern news sources unfairly biased against them. Your opinion/perspective is valid too of course.

kunlekunle: if you dont go the jungle justice way they never learn.
they intentionally loot, they dont deserve mercy.
so who will carry out the jungle jusice. isn't it the same corrupt Nigerians? Just like EFCC or MEND. thieves trying to punish other thieves.
corruption is corruption. Just because one corrupt person is a politician doesn't mean he is any worse than a corrupt mechanic.
even YOU or ME might do the same if we were in those politicians' shoes.we just don't have that opportunity so we think we are corrupt free.we are not.
We need to follow a set of rules and anybody who doesn't follow the rules will be punished fairly through the legal process. that's how civilized people do it through checks and balances.
Jungle justice is just a continuation of a LAWLESS SOCIETY. The people pointing the fingers are corrupt themselves. let's not turn our blessed country into Somalia abeg.

Her look maybe common in Nigeria, but it sure stands out abroad. I will do a double take if I saw her walking down the street where I live.

And oyinbos actually tend to appreciate beauty that most of us take for granted. I bet if it was up to us to decide the winner, we will prefer to choose an half-caste or akata looking girl as as the most beautiful tongue

alek wek on the other hand grin no comment
PoliticsRe: Time For Jungle Justice On Corruption by cfours: 5:14am On Mar 22, 2012
lipsrsealed
corruption can only be corrected by putting rules in place and ENFORCING them.

let's encourage our leaders to put instruments in place for law enforcement. Laws exist for a reason.
Anybody (even me) can be tempted to act in a corrupt manner if I know I will get away with it. But if I know that there is consequence for wrong doing, I will desist from the corrupt action. And of course, the consequence has to be fair. This is where jungle justice has a caveat. It is never fair and almost always irrationally carried out. In fact, it makes matters much worse.

RomanceRe: He's A Lot Younger by cfours: 7:46am On Mar 20, 2012
of course you have to date before marriage.
people have always dated and courted before marriage.

the point is that you should date someone you feel matches your criteria for long term r/s ex. if marrying a younger man goes against your value, then don't date a younger man. If marrying a smoker goes against your values, don't date a smoker. If marrying a muslim goes against your values, don't date a muslim.if marrying an uneducated person goes against your value, don't date an unededcated person etc
then again, for some, dating has nothing to do with marriage so people most times date just for fun with no values attached. they go in and out of relationships as they see fit and based on attraction alone. little wonder why divorce rates are so high.

Dis is d problem i ave wit our pple. why agree to date som1 u place doubt about marrying. i'm in my early 20s yet i aven't dated a girl in my life because i wont dear date a girl i cant marry.
gbam!!
even I was tempted to date a guy last year that wasn't a fit for me. he was very attractive and nice but he was muslim and I can never see myself marrying a muslim so I just told him we can only be friends. save each other future headache. Now I'm in a r/s with a nice christian guy.

Sam_Ikenna: Did we wrong the people of Niger Delta - Yes.
Whether MEND started a just cause and eventually became criminals is a different story, at least we all can agree we did some wrong to the people of that region.

Now, what wrong did we do to core north?
what do you mean by "we"?
I don't think I have personally wronged the people of Niger Delta. So I cannot fold my arms and say that it's ok that they were kidnapping and killing innocent folks. That's a terrorist act.

Boko Haram is fighting against the same government that MEND was fighting against. The north is the least developed region in Nigeria after all and one can't fathom the deplorable condition the average northerner is subject to until one visit the place so I'm really not shocked at the agitation and unrest. But they are carrying out their frustration on often times innocent people. that shouldn't be excused.

although I agree that MEND's cause and organization is 100x more plausible than Boko Haram's.

MRbrownJAY: ^^^^what has traditional way of dating got to do with anything? what has his age got to do with anything? after all he is the one who came talking about it. why should we give him any credits? so if he decides to be dateless he should get credits, for what exactly?! lol!

as for you checking my profile or post records, i wonder what you were hoping to find? lol! i certainly wouldnt waste my time checking your profile, as it is irrelevant to what you just wrote, duh!
again, the guy is in Nigeria not USA. you can't compare the two. dating has a totally different meaning in both cultures. most of Americans suffer from extreme loneliness hence the desperation to date. They don't have close friends and dating is the closest they get to having a real personal relationship with someone else. Therefore someone who is dateless must be a lonely loser. Americans date to have company and ease loneliness. dating is encouraged for children and all teens.
In naija and even many immigrant communities abroad, there is a strong community feel and you don't need a date to have a good time with friends of same and opposite sex. People date usually when they have found someone they fell in love with or someone they see a future with. Otherwise, they date when they reach a age where they feel they should find someone to settle down with in marriage.

I mentioned your profile and point of view so that solelymade can understand where you are coming from wink You both have totally different ideas about dating, marriage and anything relationship. period. so there is no need for argument.

RomanceRe: He's A Lot Younger by cfours: 5:53am On Mar 20, 2012
@mrbrownjay,

please cut out the self-righteous banter.
Solelymade is speaking from a traditional point of view. He is referring more to real courtship than the typical kind of american casual 'dating' you are referring to. Besides he is still in his early 20s. most guys at that age are still thinking with their penises and dating just to have stable sex. So we should give him credit for being more mature.

then again, I look at your profile pic and post record and wonder if you are qualified to give marriage advice. lipsrsealed you must be in at least your 40s but are you married?

anyway,
@OP, marriage is much more than just "being in love." Ask yourself if you share the same ideals and if the age difference will pose problems for you later in your relationship etc

I personally cannot not marry a guy 5 yrs younger because that will make him 16 yrs old lipsrsealed Even if he is the best guy in the world, my ideals and values will not allow me to go ahead with such a relationship.I will prefer to keep him as a friend only.
maybe if I'm 35yrs old and unmarried then yes, I can marry a guy 5 yrs younger. You really just have to use your common sense and see what works for you at this point in your life.
PoliticsRe: The Time For Gej's Boko Haram Amnesty Program Is Upon Us by cfours: 5:09am On Mar 20, 2012
I agree with Kobojunkie on this.

GEJ did the same for MEND (bad precedence) and now he is forced to do the same for Boko Haram.
The reason why we go begging and appeasing terrorist groups (MEND, Boko Haram, MASSOB, etc) is beyond me.

but what can I say when the closest contact you've had with a northern Nigerian is through the TV.
