Damsal:

i've never been in a relationship and from what i see around i don't think i'm missing much. cheesy cheesy
retro:

You're the first 19 year old who hasn't been in a relationship, I've met.
Damsal, my dear, don't worry! Most of the successful young ladies I know didn't get kissed until after their 18th birthday. (Myself included.) We also didn't have boyfriends at an early age; it all happened slowly in college, between books & parties. Anyhow, you're right, relationships take a large emotional toll - and the physical aspect isn't always as fun for girls lipsrsealed - so take your time & take care.
Religion / Re: Should Religion Be Important In A Relationship? by chinani(f): 4:02am On Jun 30, 2006
Well it depends on the people. How important is religion (& spirituality) to them? If you're dating, ahhh, no biggie!

But if you're talking marriage both partners should be open, honest, even forward about issues such as food/diet, lifestyle, pets & children.

For instance, is your honey gonna freak if you try & own a cat? (I have Muslim friends who are staunchly anti-pet.)
What will the kiddies be named? What is their religion?
Will the go to Catholic school? Or is this unacceptable?
And so forth. . .

There are some pages on NL about this issue. I'd read them just to learn more about successful & unsuccessful experiences.

But since you brought it up, are you strong enough (as in a stubborn, loner enough) to withstand parental pressure? Is he? Good luck!
Travel / Re: What Did You First Experience In The US? by chinani(f): 7:26pm On Jun 29, 2006
@L.M.
A communion? I've never thought of it that way, but it works. In my house, we actually have lots of rules for food & eating. Only recently am I learning that other ppl do not eat this way. Cheers!

shango:

J-Lo is a hoe just like the rest. She slept around to get a record deal and hooked up with the likes of P-Diddy to push her album and the white actor to do two films with him. She might not shake her ass in music videos but she is the alpha female, using her ASSets to promote her carrier.

Its no coincidence her first Sony Music record came out while dating a Sony Music Exec. You do not go from music videos to record deals having no singing talent without doing some down low ish
That Exec was Mariah Carey's ex-hubby. And the ex-hubby arranged for J-Lo to do a song w/ Ja Rule of (Murder) Inc. Records just as Mariah Carey's album (w/ a duet w/ a rapper) was coming out. How do I know? Irv Gotti - CEO of (Murder) Inc. Records said so & laughed b/c he knew it was all spite. So yes, J-Lo is not innocent, though she has more talent that the rest. . .not loads, but more. . .

You're welcome!

The funny thing is I just saw your comment on another thread. . .I clicked on the profile - 'cause I'm nosy! - and when I saw the pic I was like "Chei, Efani got his girlfriend o!" grin But then I was like, at least the boy's not a closeted Igbo anymore.

Anyhow, much love, lil mama. You're welcome.

verb:

look melyssa ford with her fore head like yam in an interview actually tried to separate or segregate herself from the other girls who date, have sex, free service and do uncuts for or with the artists.
Died of laughter! But I've since recovered. PREPOSITION
~j/k~

IBB:

i no blame all of una. so many funny comments on this thread. well, you all are complaining of black american ladies because you live in yankee when "black" nigerian ladies are coming from behind (or do i say they've dropped down and ready to get their eagle on). do you think Melyssa Ford and her likes can fly? wait until Edo girls (no offence to my Edo sisters) return from Italy and then we'll see who's swimming skillfully in the "cheddas pool".
I have only a foggy idea of what you're saying here.

IBB:
how many of you temporary non-nigerians (nigerians living outside naija) have seen nigerian videos lately?
Nope, but my comments were not geography specific. I think what I think whether the girls be American (Black, White, Undecided) or native Nigerian or Japanese. Oh, and I rep Naija all day, everyday!

IBB:

i advise you to start praying for your sisters at home first because the situation of the country might make them even do worse than sell a story worth N50,000.
My dear I pray for my sisters already. The reason I have so much contempt for the native born women who do it in America, Uk and the West, is b/c they have OPTIONS. I'm not condoning it for my sisters at home but GOD HELP ME is the women in are not desperate. D-E-S-P-E-R-A-T-E. . .Again, I'm not condoning it but if you had nothing. . . I think about the Hurricane Katrina people at times & the stories I've heard (live in Houston, so lots of the folks are here) about DEATH and I wonder what I would have done. Luckily, I wasn't in that situation, but what would I have done.

To Whom Much Has Been Given, Much Is Expected. . .meaning: if you're blessed to live in a country, largely free of pollution, w/ almost free/cheap education, laws, democracy, and a decent, sustainable progressive example of gender equity, don't shake your ass and tell me you're paying for college. I'm not Judge Judy, but I don't play that funny stuff either. . .

@My2cents
Hood rats? Well that's a pejorative if I've ever heard one. What makes them different from the video vixens? Skin tone? I dunno; there's no difference to me.

@Lunafish
Which video --- has gotten to any boardroom. Please, name a boardroom. BET is not a boardroom. Melissa Ford makes nothing compared to an avg looking, middle aged Jennifer Anniston. Even when J. Anniston was her age she was making more money & preparing herself well for a future in the entertainment industry. The key word is future. Most of these ladies will last just as long as their butts are round & high. . . Meaning they are not "movers & shakers". They are who "movers & shakers" pay for self-esteem. (It's cheaper than therapy.)

Er, what charities does Melissa Ford promote The only charities I've ever heard of her w/ involve professional Ball players. Surprise, surprise. . .

@Shotta
I agree with both your statements!

shotta:

its sad that they even show those videos on bet, you don't see them showing mtv uncut
that just just goes to show how the black comnunity degrades itsself and its so sad
BET is now owned by VIACOM. MTV is owned by VIACOM. VIACOM shows racier videos on BET b/c they're "giving the people what they want" or so they think. BET Uncut is a product of what mainstream (white) America thinks Black people want to see. I'm not saying that Black people lack agency or accountability but I just wanted to point out that BET is no longer BLACK owned & operated. Maybe that's the problem. undecided

shotta:
and its even more sad that some girls call people like mellissa and the super head chick their role models
A human tragedy

@Hot-A
Glad to amuse you! smiley

@2fine4u
Yes that video was protested but I pointed it out b/c I think it's indicative of the activity of the Uncut videos. Even the "day time" videos are getting a bit much. . .
Music/Radio / Re: Hip-hop Video Vixens by chinani(f): 10:41pm On Jun 26, 2006
I don't watch music videos b/c I think hip hop videos condone and propagate the objectification of women. Hip Hop videos & "video hos" - I refuse to call them vixens! - used to make me sad but now I just laugh b/c someone ppl actually think that they depict class, achievement, art and beauty.

I hate the fact that music videos confuse ppl about the beauty of real art which does include nudity, sexuality and eroticism. I'm not suggesting that hip hop videos started moral decay though I do think it plays a part. As for the women: Haba! Melissa Ford, for example, looks disgusting. She looks like a melted mannequin designed during a 12 year old's wet dream; she's a grotesque of a real woman, like those wax dolls in London. Her Jessica Rabbit figure would be seductive if her breasts weren't flammable and her figure wasn't courtesy of a plastic surgeon. But "Let them eat cake". That such women would be popular in America is no surprise.

To a certain extent, Hip Hop Video Hos & Gold Diggers are created by men (yes I say men b/c while women work in this industry it is controlled by men) to cheapen the image of women & make women more contemptible for such cheapness and classlessness. Oh, the sexuality of black and ethnic image in the Brave New World (read: America). . .The popularity of said women is indicative of the moral decay in Black America.

Anyhow, if the highlight of your life is letting Nelly swipe a credit card through your butt cheeks or bouncing your breasts in someone's face then send me an email & I'll add you to my prayer list.
