I believe as an immigrant, you would encounter similar challenges in every country. However, you can be absolutely certain that a Top company wants the best man for the job regardless of the candidate's nationality. In fact, most companies are taking very deliberate actions to increase their diversity and inclusion stats.

That being said,I did finish my masters with a first class. I do not think this was critical as I got the offer before my final results. In fact, the immigration consultants my employers hired to help arrange my critical skills application told me I could not fill in details about my masters degree since I had not yet graduated at the time so I used my Nigerian Bachelors degree which was a 2:2.

As for certifications, before leaving Nigeria my 3 year career was in IT Project Management, I had the certifications that mattered for that as in PMP and ITIL. These certifications are not directly relevant to my role in data analytics now but I think professional certifications show that you are capable of learning new things quickly, which in my opinion is the most important skill for any IT related profession as things constantly change.
wow, well I kinda think your first class in MSC played a factor in the sense that although you got the offer before the final result but as soon as they got to know your got first class they had to start the application for the work visa thing you said is applicable to a green card.

That's good to know you have relevant certf in Project management with the 3yrs experience, I also have relevant CERT's In Networkin/IT security, I think what i have to focus next to gain the same luck as you is a first class in the Masters program.

Hi Guys

I am sharing this to encourage someone.

About 15 months ago, I took the brave decision to travel abroad for better opportunities. Brave because I had a decent job as per naija standards but I was pretty stagnant and making no genuine progress in my career. I considered several countries but eventually settled for Ireland as it was less competitive than other countries and they offered graduates a genuine chance to get a job after graduation. I barely put enough money together for visa application, flights and 50% of the tuition. I came to study a Masters in Computing(Data Analytics) at DIT, I did not know much about the school but the deciding factor in picking it was that they allowed a 50% down payment of tuition for registration.

It was a very intense period while I studied, I was lucky to be get a part time job almost immediately after I arrived and it was extremely difficult juggling this with full time study especially as the masters degree was extremely packed. I did not need any extra motivation to dedicate my whole being to studying, this often meant I had to hang around all night in Starbucks, completing assignments and studying.

Now to the testimony, about 2 months ago I graduated and I actually had a job offer as an Analytics Consultant in a top Consulting Firm here in Dublin before I graduated. Now this is nothing but God's grace as I know for a fact it is not easy. On accepting the Job offer, the company wasted no time in preparing a critical skills work permit application(equivalent of green card) on my behalf which got approved about two weeks ago.

I used nairaland a lot when researching study destinations and putting together my visa papers so feel free to reach out to me if you require any information.
wow that's great.

My fear with Ireland has been the policy of first considering citizens for a job before immigrants.
It seems you did exceptionally well, did you finish your masters with a distinction? Did you get professional certificates.

the reason I ask is because I am also interested in IT, but In Network security/Info sec. I have a little work experience in the role and own a couple of IT certifications in network and IT security. I don't know if after Masters program and possibly more higher IT certfs , if that could boost my chance like it did for you in data analytics.

I will like to hear from you tho
CareerRe: Should I Drop Out Of School And Concentrate On Business? by chukzyfcbb: 12:10pm On Dec 25, 2018
who says you can't run both?

Business is not all rosy as these guys are painting it, all those stories about boiz in Lagos island, alaba and co. trust me I have been there done that and still doing. its not rosy!

Be prepared to lose all your sweat made in years with just one bad business move!

For school, most graduates come out with just a Bsc and expect a fat paycheck to land on thier lap. That's why you hear them complain that certf is rubbish.

who will pay you heavy cheques because you have just a Bsc. The same Bsc that thousands out there also have. so what makes you special?

When you have extra additional skills to a Bsc in Comp sci. there is no way you won't stand out from the crowd and command high figures.

Infact for someone who is business driven, after working for x no of years as an employee. you can quickly start up your own firm with your skills and experience gained.

All these guys saying mini import and ko. baba its no easy as it seems o. This Christmas season alone business is very slow in Idumota market, buyers are scarce, no money for Naija.
Mehn dey liquidate thier goods to travel out with thier family.
Except say no be this same Idumota I dey.

You can always start business any day you wake up. but to get that knowledge from a higher institution and get the needed experience as an employee has limited time.

The choice is yours!

Gurus in the house, please i need your input in this :
I have Tbill that will mature 14th February 2019,which I will re invest. I intend to do 3.3M for 364days for at least 14%., but due to some unexpected expenditures, I will have only 2.9M to invest.
My Questions is :
Should I write 3.3M in the Tbill primary market form(even though I have 2.9M in the account)
Knowing fully well that the 2.9M covers the discount value?
I know this is not applicable to Firstbank. I am asking as regards stanbic ibtc since Stanbic usually debit discount value in Tbill.
NB
Face value = 3.3M
Discount value = 2.838M
Assuming rate = 14%
Tenor =364 days
Thanks
lol, sharp guy. I have thought about this before but never had to try it out. It should work except someone who has attempted it and failed should share with us.

Could we have a 16-17% rate coming months down the line?

With Foreign investors outflow going steady, and a depleting Forex Reserves. Its crystal clear that Emefiele will want to defend the naira at all cost (Political campaign tool cheesy) so that should mean Higher rates coming soon.

See how easy it sounds to you.

You never factored in omonile, trespass ,high chances of buying a land in dispute, whose dispute may last for up to 20 years with an injunction that no activity will take place on the land.
its no easy bruh.

But will you fold you arms and keep your money in the bank instead. That's why I said Buy and Fence, the reason i said fence, its because its a good way to wad off Omoniles.

land dispute/Problematic land can be avoided to a large extent if people took the right professionals to sites before purchase.

Thankfully Omonile lawyer (mod of the property section and property lawyer) here on Nairaland has shared a lot of the tricks they use to sway buyers all for free.

I believe everyone here should read through his threads to learn a thing or two.

Not like I am saying anything new from what others have said.

You can run both, in facts that's what I do.

Take money from rents and Pump it back into Tbills, Then use the money from Tbills to acquire more properties after some years of accumulation.

However, if you sell that house, then don't put all that money into Tbills.

U can buy some lands, fence it and hold.
put the others into Tbills.

so say u sold the house at 15m, u can do a 50/50 split. 7m to acquire and fence a land, 7m into Tbills.

U can lease the empty land to farmers to generate small cash, to add to Tbills overtime.

When Tbills is grown, u can take a chunk of it and acquire another land, fence keep!

rinse repeat

But then this is my own opinion

Are u aware that some people after they do T.B. dey will spend the interest before 3mth. if u're like dat wat ur gain ?

after selling and dollar goes up to 550 or 600 u've lost ur money. but with real estate it catches up.

My advice Make sure u have a Real Estate investment, T.B investment . REAL LIFE BIZ as well. Even dollar investment...dis is nigeria where thins change quickly.

Go through my argument on this thread with @Chukzyfcb 2yr ago .

The same Chukzyfcb who thought T.BILL is the GOLD 2yr ago is now A CRYPTO trader.

he was even calling T.BILL blood money 2yrs ago..Now ask him again if T.BILL is blood money .

ask him again does he understand how tbill is only better dan savings now in 2018...read the thread and see the argument.
Hello Mr tri tri, we meet again.
Am I still in T.bills yes I am.
Funds still untouched smiley

Does trading Crypto mean Tbills doesn't make sense? NO...

Most people who trade Tbills either have a business running or involve in Forex or something else. That I do Crypto doesn't mean that Tbills is Dead.

I have my reservations for Real estate, here is a link of what I feel about Renting vs Land flipping
.https://www.nairaland.com/878880/treasury-bills-nigeria/532#68748363

More so, I am a strong disciple of compound interest, I grew from a family who stuck with it and saw the benefits. So its heavily ingrained in me.

Concentration in an Asset BUILDS wealth while
Diversification PRESERVES it. Never forget that.

It would have been fair if he cared about the welfare of the people living on his property, but he doesn't, he only cares about money. Sometime this year, we had to stay without water for close to 3 days because they couldn't fix a simple broken pipe. In fact, I mobilized some people and we put together to repair the pipe. Should the tenants be the ones repairing a landlord's property for him when we were not the ones that damaged it in the first place.

10k may be small but when someone just comes from nowhere and asks you to pay an extra 10k when you already budgeted for the former amount, then it is not funny.
Well That's his responsiblity, although some if these tenants can misuse the privilege that a landlord is taking care of his house. They even expect a landlord to come and repair the sink they use inside their kitchen because he has maintenance attitude smiley

Do tenants pay for service charges? I guess not, so if a landlord should repair stuffs like that, its out of his good will.

Over here rents increase in 50k ,100,150k + for flats.

I told other tenants in the building that we should meet and negotiate with the man, but everyone was forming busy. I left them, after all, I am not the poorest and I can actually pay the new rent, was just trying to let the landlord know that he did the wrong thing.

Well, all of that is soon going to be over as I am planning to build my own house next year.
when last did your landlord touch the rent before you start claiming it's unfair. Just 10k? that one no be increase now....
PropertiesRe: 3 Things To Do When Landlord Increases Your House Rent In Nigeria by chukzyfcbb: 2:33pm On Oct 28, 2018
lool

How can you negotiate rent with a landlord when you are known to delay rent payment.

Some people pay their rent 6minths after when its over due, how do you think that helps in negotiating?

Moving out? I will be happy if some tenants move out because it gives me ample opportunity to re arrange the house and put it a higher rent!

Sometimes its hard to raise rent prices simply because so so tenant is an Old client in the compound, so if you wan move out na to my advantage ! smiley

More so, as a wise landlord when tenants pay their rent, you send them a sound warning that next year rent will be increased so they either prepare for next year or be ready to pack out
