FamilyRe: Parenting: Should My Child Have A Smartphone? by Cleanworld(f): 6:16pm On Apr 18, 2021
haddeylium:
A growing number of children have a smartphone, and many of them use their phone to access the Internet in the privacy of their bedroom. What are the risks of letting your child have a smartphone? What are the benefits? How much screen time is too much?

What you should know

What you should ask

Ask yourself if you are ready

What you should know
The Benefits

SAFETY FOR CHILDREN, peace of mind for parents. “We live in a dangerous world,” says Bethany, a mother of two teenagers. “It’s vital for children to be able to contact their parents.”

A mother named Catherine takes it further. “With some apps,” she says, “you can connect to your child’s phone to see where he is. If he’s driving, you can even see how fast he’s going.”

HELP FOR HOMEWORK. “Children get homework via e-mail or text message, and they can communicate with their teachers the same way,” says a mother named Marie.

The Risks

TOO MUCH SCREEN TIME. Young people typically spend several hours a day on their phone. In fact, parents spend about as much time interacting with their devices as they spend in meaningful interaction with their children. Some households have become, as one counselor describes it, “a daily gathering of strangers fixated on a bunch of machines.”

PORNOGRAPHY. According to one estimate, more than half of all teenagers seek out pornography on a monthly basis—hardly surprising, considering the ease with which it can be accessed on a mobile device. “By letting their child have a smartphone,” says William, a father of two teenagers, “parents could be unwittingly opening up a pornography shop that goes wherever the child goes.”

DEPENDENCY. Many people are emotionally attached to their phone. If it is misplaced, they report feeling panicky, desperate, and even sick. Some parents note that their children become rude when using their device. “Sometimes when I want to talk to my son,” says Carmen, “he rolls his eyes or makes a snarky remark because he doesn’t like being interrupted.”

Additional risks. Smartphone use brings with it the risk of cyberbullying and sexting, and can lead to a number of health problems that result from poor posture and a lack of sleep. Some young people use a “ghost app”—an app that appears to be innocent, such as a calculator—to hide content that they do not want their parents to see.

Daniel, the father of a teenage girl, sums it up this way: “A smartphone opens a window to everything the Internet has to offer—both good and bad.”
Every device has parental control. you can also download kidsyoutube.

But your question should have being...Should my child eat today. undecided undecided lipsrsealed grin grin grin grin grin

if we keep pressurising the govt to negotiate with terrorist, the results would be 50released and 90 kidnapped..
because we the masses are forcing the govt to come to terms with those terrorist.
pressurizing the govt means the terrorist has the biggest advantage and can demand whatever they want in return..

yes people might say because they aren't my sisters or siblings, people may say I have no concience that's why Im giving this suggestion.
but no, it's because I have a bigger concience than you all that's why I'm more concerned about the future of others..
if only negotiations was never considered by the people and masses 8 years ago, I'm sure kidnapping wouldn't be happening again.
we could have lost a thousand souls and saved a million souls.

What this supposedly great country of ours has missed in resources, investment, tourism and immigrant expats is unquantifiable all because of litle amenities that we took 60 years to work on and still no solution.
Where do you expect jobs to come from when there's no light, road, water, health care, food and a good data base to identify who is who...may be we should ''borrow or print ''more money and give it to the China to give us all these amenities before we can sit for any resolution or referendum.

Hello members,
This is a long post and may include some errors. kindly ignore the blunders therein.

So, here it goes.

I was informed of a job offer at one of these LAPO MFB. As requested I went there to submit my application letter along with the credentials.

Getting there, I met with the branch manager. We exchanged greetings, he asked me to sit and thereafter we discussed about the job offer that the pay is #25000 and it is a three months program.

The necessity of hiring extra hands was because they have a target to meet within that stipulated time. During our interaction he went through my letter and eventually told me it wasn't within his capacity to employ that he would have to call me later today or certainly tomorrow after he must have met with the higher authority. that's how we rounded up our discussion and I left his office.

Few hours later, I received his call that I should come right away of which I was busy far away from the place coupled with that I had no transport fare to meet up.

Consequent to that, He asked me to come the following day by 8am. Noting this I went there though before going I had no office shoe as I long forgone anything like corporate work even though I was a teacher wayback.

As to this effect, I didn't want that to be an excuse for me not to go there so I dressed neatly though not tucked in because it wouldn't be proper to tuck in with slide footwear also I trekked to the place even though it's far but that's not a problem anyway.

When I got there at that time I had to wait because they were having morning meeting. After some minutes, He called me in, he asked me some questions about my name, address and others. He proceeded to tell me what he had said the day before. Thereafter, He said I would have to go their state office at Oshogbo to collect a letter indicating my employment . more like a traveling to the place costing me #1500. ordinarily that shouldn't be a problem but I didn't have that money to make the travel that's what I said.

He said the company would settle me on my return. As I was about to seek permission to go outside to make calls. One of them started talking scolding me that I shouldn't have said that I do not have money and my mode of dressing blah blah. I eventually went out to make the calls but I couldn't get any help because it was too sudden.

I went in to tell them, he returned my credentials. that was how I left.

Insults and blames are welcome but be objective please. thank you.
You have no blame here and moreover if you had accepted that job believe me you will later regret it. Most time when things happened like this, its a sign that you will soon find a good job. Just be patience something good will soon come along.

Hmmm... It's amazing how people lose goodwill because of their belle. This man used to be one of the most respectable clergy in this country before he dabbled into politics. He badly exposed his weaknesses. That's why I tell Yoruba to be wary that their belle do not put them in trouble. The hatred that this man exhibited for Jonathan, a Christian is appalling. I million man march ... Today, with Buhari's government doing much more worse evil, he has lost the will to criticize and protest. No wonder Jesus said that many will tell Him on that day, did we not do this and do that in your name, but He will tell them "Depart from Me. Ye that work iniquity" To me, that Jonathan is a Christian is reason why no Christian should have supported a known Jihadist. Unfortunately, even Christians proved to be the most ignorant. Now, you practically have to fight for your lives as tribes and ethnic groups to avoid annihilation. Thanks to blind Christians of Nigeria. By the way, the only Yoruba pastor that proved he is different id that Winners Chapel man. May God bless hem and many others like him. Like Nehemiah, may the Lord remember him for standing for His people.

And the real Servant of God amongst the Yoruba clergy is the most simple one of them all that's Mfm pastor D.K Olukoya. You can take that to the moon.

The truth is that Nigerians problem is too much.... Most news that grace the front page here are mostly negative about Nigeria.... And you think foreigners don't come here to see what's happening? Especially how most Nigerians speak bad about their country?

Remember when Dunlop and Micheline left Nigeria for Ghana.... Things weren't even as bad as it is now.... Now twitter has decided to situate its African headquarters in Ghana.... Truth be told, it's a slap on Nigeria.

But you can't really blame them.... Most times we open nairaland, it's about one bad news or the other..... Mostly insecurity.... Nobody wants to do business in fear.

I would have said hope our leaders can learn from this, but truth be told.... They really don't care.

We are just on our own for now.
CARE is an understatement here...i'm still looking for a better words to qualify them.

It has always been in my mind to ask this question, as a developer how many hours do you code ( or at least spend on your laptop screen) per day or per week?
Good question. Its highly stressful job but rewarding and you must have great interest in debugging, decoding and all .

Prioritise your time here especially to the time when you are most productive but you should know that its time consuming.

Generation Alpha developers are so lucky because there are already software components that are reusable.

Please advice me on this.

There is a girl we have been dating for 3 years now, and we seem to be in a good term wrh each other, so I introduced her to my Mum which she welcomed her nicely. And I have got to know her Mum too (not her Dad yet).
She has been visiting my Mum for a greet even without both of use go together. I will just be notified by her that she went there.

So, both of us went there yesterday (Sunday) for a greet. I saw my Mum attitude against her, not so nicely like before. I then begin to observe tightly but noting to hold up on.

That night, my Mum called me that she needs to speak with me (I realized that she's about to talk based the girl).

Mum: Good evening son, I so much love you but that's why I will not kept quiet.

Mum: Your fiancee disrespect me so much. The last time she came, we were washing clothes. She sat down a bit and stood up later to wash, but she didn't even eash it well.

Me: Ah,

Mum: Likewise today (Sunday), she saw me washing clothes and can't even collect it, what if there is a visitor in between?

Mum: Just Incase you see me not so nicely with her next time. You should know that that's the cause. She disrespect me a lot!

Me: Mum, am s sorry, I will talk with her

Mum: No, don't say anything to her concerning this. I will change against her whenever she comes, till she ask that "Why" and I will tell her.

PLEASE, advice me, I so much love my Mum. But I want this girl to be a wife she proves to be.

Please what can I do?
Remember that your Mum has being washing her clothes by herself jejely for years without any help but what she's trying to let you see is that the girl doesn't have any courtesy (home training) whatsoever even at this stage of your relationship . These are some ways African mothers get to detect a would be ''Good and respecfull future wives/husbands'' because she believe that household chores should come naturally to her. If she ask your mum to help wash the clothes ofcourse she will definetly refused because she's a visitor. Its a testing stage in which she failed and your Mum being a good women draws your attention to this future headaches so that after marriage she will cook and not give your mama because she would be expecting her to go and prepare her own food.
Bros. the ball is in your court.

Please house I need an advice.

Ever since I got a federal government job,

my relatives have been disturbing me for money.

There must always be an issue that involves money which they want me to solve.

Recently, my mom become sick.

They are threatening me that I would be held responsible if my mom dies,if I don't make sure she is cured.

But I have taken her to hospitals, and she is trying to recover.

I do this whenever I visit home since I am working in a state far from home.

Her health challenge is due to old age.

But today my uncle called me that I should resign, get back to the village and personally take care of my mom,

failure of which,if she dies, the whole family would hold me responsible for choosing job over my mom.

Can you imagine resigning your federal job to get to the village and start staying?

The calls, the demands, the attacks are getting too much for me.

Please should I just switch off my phone so that no one can contact me?

I just need advice?
Don't Stress yourself at all. Prepare your mind now and go to the village and bring your mum back to your base and take care of her while you still hold your job infact bring a younger person that will be taking care of her while you aint at home. do this for few month and you will see your mum bouncing back in short period of time then jeje send her back home.
This will be in the record that you didn't neglect her and the village ''witches'' will let you rest .

This are the things we do for love and remember it is just for a time and period, it wont last for ever so that your conscience will be clear in the future.

Its a cultural thing, dont let them call you names.

We all know most of the owners are Igbos. Have you ever seen a Yorubaa spare parts dealer in your life? Do they even know the way or what it takes to import these parts from Japan and Korea? Have you ever seen a Yorubaa at the airport with handbag saying he is going to Tokyo, Yokohama, Singapore, Seoul, e.t.c to import auto parts? Let's be honest with ourselves, everything is not tribalism. Keep burning Igbos shops and think that will slow Igbos down? Only God can slow Igbos down on this earth!
Stop deceiving yourself because majority of the dealers are Yoruba's trainned.by Igbo's..Igbo's are not much there like say back in the 90" and early 20" you better be sure of what you are saying.

Part of Anambra is burning likewise this part of Ibadan...your common enemies are wagging war and you are here waggling tongue.
