Listen Christians are not foolish only the gullible are. How can your pastor tell you to use olive oil and handkerchiefs to protect yourself while using military escort, then send you to go and preach against someone’s religion for soul winning and get killed. I am a Christian but not gullible one. Bible is compilation of people’s experiences in the Bible days, that’s why you see different authors in the Bible like Mathew, mark, job, etc they recorded their experiences, revelations they receive from god according to them. So we Christians use it as a manual to learn , for me I don’t take everything written in the Bible as well as I don’t take everything man of god said some of this things are based on their ideology.

I don't know who you are but this is the BEST comment I have read on Nairaland ever. I had this same discussion with my mother and we came to the conclusion we must incorporate our native languages into our educational institutions if we want to compete favorably with other nations. The top nations in the world do not use other people's language to instruct their citizens. Isn't it curious that we are using a foreign language to communicate amongst ourselves? Where is our identity? Our native religions? Where are our philosophers, authors, scientists etc? I have so much to say about this topic. How many Einsteins would we have produced if our children are learning in their native language? Even Einstein wrote all this papers in German, not English. But I doubt it will happen. We see our native languages as vernacular and not sophisticated enough.

That is one of the reason the Asian countries are performing better in maths than the western world.

Their language is visual and easier to count/represent numbers and do mental maths.

There are some linguistic ambiguouties when you count/depict numbers in English Language for example, there is no linguistic relationship between the number 9 and 10 on the numbering system.
None between number 19 and 20 and so on.
The way the numbers are represented in the Korean or Japanese local dialect makes it easier to understand and visualize the flow of numbers making it easier to comprehend and manipulate tgerefore are naturally good at maths.

There was a big research conducted in this regard and you can find more details in the book "outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell.

We are more than 200million people and its a shame we do not have a fully developed language system.

Swiss is about two million people and they have developed an advanced language system.

What is going on now is systemic... In order to save Nigeria, especially those in Middle Belt, the president needs support of Southerners. It's the "didn't we warn you about Tinubu" some folks from South are echoing about that doesn't sit well with me. Is this the time for such shenanigans?

The president controls the military and all the armed forces!

The president controls the police!

The president is from the majority ruling party in Nigeria, APC!

The president has his padi padi as Senate president!

The president gets billions budgeted for security votes annually!

What Southern support does the president require to perform? Can you explain more about that aspect?

Democracy does not work that way and we have fundamental freedom of speech which was fully utilized by PBAT and APC when they constantly criticized Jonathan and even went on to organize protests, the country was even way better than what it is now.

Don't take it personally ore, The president and APC have everything they need to work and will be held accountable, and criticized when their duties are being neglected.

The problem actually is not the Northerners but the hateful Southern tribes wishing the current administration bad. If they like let them scream "didn't we warn you" from now till 2027, it won't make their fake messiah president. Our people should start looking inwards, clean up Lagos and make the State fit for Capital incase of any incasity.

You made a valid point. It is not fully developed.....i remember, what Baba Faleti said, when my friends and I visited him years back ....he said, there was a move by some yoruba professors to developed the use of yoruba to teach mathematics and other subjects. But the idea or move was buried.

Honestly, we need to develop our indegenous languages like the Asians.
Imagine the level of understanding if you yave to learn chemistry or maths in Yoruba or Igbo or Hausa.
Even as small as South Korea, they created and developed their own languages not abandon them for a foreign language.

We should have a seperate ministry for indigenous language developement headed by a fully qualified linguistic professor.

Then we incorporate our indigenous language into education and make it mandatory.

There should be like maths textbook in Yoruba dialect for example and the use made compusory from pry 1.
Imagine having to learn maths in your own dialect like the Asians.

Our children can't even speak or write our languages anymore.
This is not acceptable.

I am a yoruba, I speak and write it fluently. English fluently, I speak French, because of where I was born, and because I spent my early childhood there. I speak passable Spanish.....travelling things.....understand hausa language , can't speak fluently.

The fact that you can merely speak a dialect does not mean it is fully developed.
