Family › Re: Pastor Seeks Dissolution Of 32-year Marriage Over Constant Beating By Wife by cococandy(f): 10:20am On Oct 30, 2015
All these wives that claim the man did this and that (horrible bla bla bla) yet beg the judge not to dissolve the marriage as they 'still love him'
I dey suspect them. Those lines don't add up.
Or maybe they love the so called suffering they claim the husband is putting them through.
Or are just plain lying.

Anyway the pastor should just bring witnesses as he says his neighbors have rescued him before in the past. Just one or two to testify for him and the dissolution will happen.
Don't live a violent person.

It will be hard but if you're determined, you will make it. Just be careful henceforth.

Yea,but our culture demand mourning period, bring different men to her matrimonial home is not good.
6 months is a decent mourning period. So dating after that time isn't a bad thing.

But bringing different men into the house she shared with your late dad is in bad taste. I agree with that. And the huge deal is that it's not even one person. That's where I'm like angry

But if your concern is the time, I think people generally believe 6 months mourning period is okay. Some people even remarry just a year later. So they must have started seeing another person some months after the loss. Although most people would wait a bit longer in order not offend the sensibilities of their kids but if they choose not to, it's not a sin. You know.

Face it, even after 10yrs, you still won't like to see her with another person because the memory of your dad is and will always be fresh in your mind.

Six months later,
It's not an affair.

The only issue is that there are many of them as the poster said. If it was only one person, then it's not a problem.
Till death do them part.

. . . its absolutely not possible to be rigid on this one because there is no way there wont be any crossover of roles because that goes against the objectives of marriage which is of being supportive and helpful to one another.

If you say you wont help financially and he wont do any chores at all, then that marriage is on a long thing.

What happens if he looses his job? Will she watch the family starve to death even though she has a wage coming in every month?
What happens if she is newly delivered of a baby or she is ill and he is hungry. Will she still be expected to go to the kitchen and fix something up for him?

Personally I think its even easier to drop money than it is to do housework when you are tired or ill.

I wouldn't advise anyone to go down that absolute role route as they may not be able to sustain it 24/7

There is a good feeling about helping someone to carry some of the burden, just as it is when someone helps with some of the burden too.

All the good marriages I have seen have been based on flexibility as one of the fundamentals.
@bold, word.

I don't know why this is even a hard concept for some people to grab.

That makes sense for someone who is on budget. Cloths are cheaper in Nigeria than the US; tax free and china stuff. She might also get some cheap quality Italian clothes form allen avenue.
.
I don't know why some people are insulting her.
I understood it to mean that she prefers to spend less by shopping first in Nigeria (from that shop she's advertising there) before coming here because then she wouldn't spend so much more and still get good clothes.

Personally I believe in love. Very much. And I believe that if you have an idea of what a good marriage would be according to your books, then someone who possesses all those qualities you want in a partner would be easy to fall in love with.

If After 3yrs she doesn't feel anything for him but according to her, he has all those great qualities, then maybe she doesn't even know what kind of marriage she's hoping or aspiring to have hence the confusion.

Maybe she should let him be.

johnson232:
Cococandy any plans as regards the bold so far? Inciting women to divorce is easy, what is difficult is life after divorce.

This one that u are preaching and advocating divorce, do u have any proposed plan in view that will cater for the divorcee? Honestly I think u need to channel this crusade holistically and in a more detailed format. Like an elder statesman of this section rightly pointed out, we have various degree of abuse, which may become value laden depending on our personal interpretation.

Abuse constitute part of our everyday life, on a varying level. Personally, life itself is abusive and unfair, but does that warrant suicide? The way u propagate and promulgate divorce makes it seem like the optimum and ultimate solution to marital crisis, which is very far from the truth. Challenges do come up in every facet of our lives, of which some are one off.

U can't totally take perseverance, endurance, tolerance and patience from any fruitful marriage, likewise anything good. My mum once exercised these qualities and today she is reaping the benefit. In as much we are agitating against DV, we should as much try to preach divorce as the least option, not as the first, ultimate and optimum solution.

The emotional and psychological long term effect of divorce on the kids and every one involved isn't what any one would wish to experience. The divorcees in the house can attest to this. Tone down on divorce, DV can never be totally eradicated, even though most women portray victims to be preponderantly women, but children also suffer from DV perpetrated by their mothers, any campaign on this?

Pls don't devalue the marriage institution by parading divorce as the optimum solution to frivolous marital issues....
Family › Re: Domestic Violence Awareness. by cococandy(op): 10:55pm On Oct 27, 2015
So she was the abusive person in the relationship to start with.
Are you asking if what he did in retaliation counts as abuse.
Technically it is 'self defense' I guess. although it doesn't meet the total requirements to be defined as such because it was pre planned. But her own violent attitude beget that.

It does have the potential to become abuse if he begins to see violence as a way of solving any disputes between them.

I read an article about a guy who was dating a girl that he was older than with 9 years, he was Intent on marrying the girl, they were out and about for a few months, they had a normal couples argument and she slapped him , he warned her not to try it again, the guy said that the girl hits him during most of their arguments.
On a faithful day they for the party of one of the guys colleagues , the girl was misbehaving so the guy cautioned her and she slapped him at the party.
The guy quietly left the party , when the girl came home she started begging the guy, he replied that he had forgiven her but he wants to teach her a lesson, he used his belt to beat her blue black .and told her that she shouldn't mistake self control for weakness,
