There is no getting around it. It's a bitter pill we have to swallow that we should have swallowed like 10years ago.

If anything the main damage was done by Buhari, whose old School protectionist polices dried up the supply of dollars to the economy and caused naira to devalue even more than it might have if he'd just left the market alone. Asides just the exchange rate, buhari's incompetence ruined this economy.

If $/NGN was still say N480, at least this removal of subsidy wouldn't be so bad.

Most of these reports of FIRS breaking tax collection records are a bit overcooked and can only decieve the uninformed.

A number of oil companies pay their PPTA and CITA in USD. So when NGN devalues, it appears as though FIRS is collecting more in Naira.

However, in USD the value of the collection may be essentially flat or even reducing due to the fact that oil companies in Nigeria are not doing as well.

In about 6months time a lot of petrol station will close down for the following reasons :

1. Very low margin; imagine buying a product for 498 at the depot and selling it at 510. Making about 12 Naira from 498. Some bad marketers even manipulate their meter to meet up with NNPC price. While some sincere once’s put it as it is . Unfortunately the sincere ones don’t see patronage because people will say price is high.

2. Low demand ; the demand for the product has dropped by over 60 to 70 percent . You now see people come in just to buy 10liters and go. Unlike early this year when an average person buys 30liters .

3. With the high interest bank charge on loans there is no way you can service the loan with such low profit margin especially because you have running cost to Cather for .

I wish government will do something about this like opening a special forex window for petrol import . If not a lot of businesses will go down.

Nigeria has to find a way of improving formalizing the informal sector.

If it were me, I'd make a law setting up Property clearing house in each state. You canny get approval to build unless professionals you are using have evidence of tax returns linked to their name.

Also all estate agents must be qualified and licensed and every real estate transaction must be conducted by a registers ND licensed agent. ND if you don't show tax filing for this year, you don't get licensed for the following year. Any transaction handled by n unlicensed agent becomes null and void.

Hundreds of BILLIONS, if not trillions of naira changes hand every year on rent, yet no tax is paid.

Where our refineries working then? The answer is No! So what difference would it have made then and now?

At least now, we even have Dangote refinery to come on stream soon.

We export huge volumes of LNG from NLNG Ltd in Bonny. NLNG also produces LPG (cooking gas), but not in sufficient quantities for Nigeria.

However, we need to understand that there are different types of gas with slightly different specifications. LNG,CNG,LPG, Propane, Butane are all slightly different versions of gas and do not necessarily co-mingle. The last 3 are to closest to one another in spec and to some extent can be used interchangeably, depending on the equipment using it.

Gas prices internationally have come down from about $9 per thousand scf to about $2.50 per thousand scf. Even though we're a huge gas producing country, the
reality of the fact is that we don't produce enough LPG for domestic domestic consumption. So a lot of what we use locally is imported, sobefore the hike in international prices affected us

Not necessarily a bad thing. Bicycles are a normal means of transport even in developed countries, particularly in Europe, even when people have cars.

We just have to face our reality and adjust lifestyles accordingly.

That's not to say that there shouldn't be strict controls on government spending to reduce wastage. But who will bell that cat? If Tinubu doesn't push for those reforms with politic will, they won't happen.

The information they say they will collect is already on vehicle license, so what's the point? Besides how exactly does it help to reduce nt crime?

If they want to collect more revenue, they should simply increase the normal vehicle license for luxury cars. I. E anyone registering a Benz, BMW,audi, Acura, Lexus, range rover, Bently, Cadillac, Rolls-Royce etc should pay an increased N10k for vehicle license, while the rest of us with Toyota, Honda, Nissan, VW, Ford, should continue paying our N4.5k or however much vehicle license is now.
