slimfit1:Did we say we don't know what the technology for refining crude is? The point is that it is illegal. It's being done based on stolen crude from companies that invested millions of dollars to find it and extract it. If their business makes sense, why don't they buy the crude? Not to talk of the environmental devastation. Did you look t the pictures? Just don't let me ever hear from your mouth that oil companies mess up your environment cost what these illegalbrefineries have done in last 5 years is more than oil companies have done in decades. There will be like 500 illegalbrefineries just like this all over the Niger delta polluting every single day. |
mrvitalis:Cutting money supply will not harm serious business. The main reason we have inflation is due to the CBN ways and means monies of N20TRILLION+ that were shared in the name of TraderMoni, COVID palliatives, Elections, Farmers loans and many other CBN Intervention programs, not to mention those that went to absolutely nothing. When money in circulation is being used for PRODUCTIVE activities, its not really a problem. But when N20trl is floating around doing nothing, but just being spent on buying dollars buy those who stole it to keep abroad, what do you expect? |
kerry57:This would have been a problem if the President was from the North, who they can run to complain. But not this time! Tinubu has broken the jinx by making sure that the Minister of FCT is not from the North, though he balanced that out by making the Minister of Niger Delta a Northerner (which makes much less sense for me as you need to know the topography and needs of the people. Abuja on the other hand is just infrastructure and administration) |
Wodu89:One can invest N6mln in those businesses and it will do well and someone else can do same and it will collapse. Success in business involves many factors such as: knowledge of the business commitment to the running of the business location of the business government policy networks and connections management skills financial capacity And many more. But bottom line is that more companies and businesses seem to be closing/struggling than those opening/thriving. I see many properties that had a business there before advertising for rent because the company has shut down and no one takes the space for quite a while. |
Hope4Naja:This is a reasonable assessment. |
TheRareGem1:I agree that is not too complex to manage, but inly if the President is 100%committed to doing the right things. Only then will decision making be easy and swift, because you don't have to spend time dealing with the political vagaries of decision making that often times will put you in a lock jam because of varied interests. I can tell you that if Tinubu hadn't made that subsidy pronouncement from day 1, there will be hundreds of political allies, etc that will encourage him not to do it now, wait till next year, then wait till 2025. Before you know it, nothing will be done. |
Islie:Do the courts have respect for themselves ![]() |
The Nigerian government is at fault for still relying on paper communication in this day and age. Those who work for government should all have email that they can check on their office computers. More senior officials like Directors of agencies etc should have official email on their phone as well. Every person working for government should have security clearance from level 1 to 5. Level one being least classified like memo on office supplies and stationary etc that everyone can see, while level 5 is top classified , for your eyes only stuff like this. And then this memo should have been sent soft copy, only accessible to those with level 5 clearance. The memo should have been sent encrypted. The encryption keys should be on the devices of only level 5 people who should see it. We operate in this country as though we are in the stone age. That new Minister of Communications and Technology should implement something like this. |
toprealman:No mind am. NHS in UK that has months and in some cases years of backlog in surgery for patients. Better than Nigeria by far no doubt, but certainly not wonderland like he's painting it to be. As for US don't even go there. It's the most medical expensive system in the developed world. Don't be confused by the movies you watch where they dial 911 and ambulance e shows up in 2 minutes. They don't tell you the bill that follows. If you call emergency services, the cost of that ambulance might be like $2k. If you have insurance you might still pay copay of like $400 |
sonnie10:Are you joking? The fuel tank on a Camry is like 15gallons |
Regex:Not only is it not free, but it's probably the most expensive in the developed world. Few months ago I fell down the steps in houston and broke a toe. Even with insurance I paid $900 out of pocket for a minor corrective surgery. If I didn't have insurance it might have cost like $3k |
Racoon:You have said a lot and also not said a lot. Nigeria's GDP is small for its size to a large extent, but that is not the major problem, as we are still the largest in Africa and top 30 in the world. The issue is that a lot of our economy is unstructured and informal, therefore it is impossible to effectively tax. For eg carpenters plumbers vulcanisers builders painters market women taxi drivers all make income but pay no income tax. Yes they may pay some form of indirect tax, but most of that doesn't even get to government. Then there is even income made by people in the middle class such as: landlords event planners musicians comedians make up artists etc None of these folks pay taxes. Davido, WhizzKid etc probably pay zero taxes on all the billions they make. |
Islie:Let's see how long before it goes back up again.!! I've been alive in Nigeria over 40years and I have never seen the Naira gain SUSTAINABLY in 40+years!!! |
iwaeda:This is where NLC should swiftly respond and put out their own infographic on minimum wage and other relevant metrics in those same countries. NLC sef no sabi wettin dem dey do. No strategy to win hearts and minds of Nigerians sef. That's why they struggle for support from the people, particularly the educated ones, because we can see that they don't even know what message they are selling. The need a media and social media consultant |
newsblendanews:If Bobrisky is a Muslim, how come MURIC has nothing to say with respect to his cross dressing!? If na ban of hijab in secondary schools now, MURIC go dey blow hot. |
Dvyne777:Toyota Nigeria Ltd is selling a brand new Prado 4.0litre engine for N77mln and yours is N80mln...!? |
ExAngel007:For some strange reason, these pictures are giving me a lesbian vibe!! |
Chummynoni:We've been saying "the poor will go for the rich" for decades now! meanwhile, more and more Nigerian politics is becoming a political monarchy, where politicians of old put their children and in-laws in the Senate and House of Reps to continue chopping as if its a family retirement home. |
adenigga:Its mainly due to the forex issue, even this article throws the VAT increase as the reason like 5 times and forex only 2 times. If diesel was N650 and you apply 7.5%VAT, then this is only N698!! Having said that, I do not support adding VAT to diesel at this point in time, but those writing news reports need to have basic common sense!!! |
Cemsorcems:Having face cap on that list makes no sense to me. The student union should take the university to court. |
Racoon: |
Rolings:Story!! Chavez ruined his country by senseless socialist spending, like subsidies that make petrol $0.5 per litre. Thats like petrol in Nigeria being N50. The mad ways and means by CBN of N22trln is our own madness, along with years of subsidies and crazy oil theft over the last decade, but particularly in the last 3years. Nigeria has just been horribly, horribly run in the last 8years!!! |
ChatterHouse:Unfortunately I'm not sure we have any tangible locally-made products to purchase. Almost every major item in my house is purchase from Abroad. televisions air conditions fridge-freezer mobile phone laptop. There is simply no replacement for these high-value items within Nigeria. I'm not proud about it. But that's just the reality!! |
Tenplet:And what did the Deizani do? Arguably the worst and most corrupt minister of petroleum Nigeria ever had. |
Ofunaofu:Which nonsense Buhari was fairer to us than to his own people!!!!! Buhari that for every 10 appointments, 9.5 of them were from the North!!! I beg go and sit down. |
jackcanfield:It depends on where the generation plant is sited. Rather than have 3000MW in one location in Lagos though, for me it'd make sense to have like 6 of 500MW each in different pasts of the state, such as Ibeju/Lekki -Epe axis to serve Lekki corridor up to Oniru Eko Atlantic to serve Eko Atlantic and VI Lagos Island to serve Lagos Island and complement VI, Ikoyi etc Trade fair complex to serve Festac, Amuwo Odofin, Satellite, Agbara etc Ikorodu to serve that axis and Ikeja, Ojodu, Ketu, etc Egbeda to serve the rest of Lagos mainland The distance from these power plants to the main sub stations serving those areas would be minimal and LASG could take over the TCN transmission infrastructure in the state and link to it. Any excess can be sent into the grid at an agreed amount to make up any shortfalls in the SW for eg However, all of this investment means that rates would have to go up to fund the investment and provide positive cash flow for investors. |
kokoA:True. and since the NASS seems to be in Tinubu's back pocket, it will fly more easily than you think. |
nairalandkachy1:Nigeria rich man has a house in Houston of $500k that he pays property tax of circa $12k on per year. Same rich man has a house in Ikoyi valued at N500mln. Ask him to come and pay N250k per year land use charge ($277) and they will shout to the high heavens and call folks in govt they know and intimidate the revenue guys from their property. But everyone wants Nigeria to be like obodo oyinbo. THE RICH SHOULD PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE!! |
Hambivert:This is why its hard to believe that there is still hope in this country. The impunity is shocking FCC selling government jobs Akpabio caught on live TV informing members of money shared to them. Members who are already going on recess after barely resuming work. The country is just a SCAM everywhere you look. |
sukkot:This is unverifiable!! If it were true, a lot of Igbo would be half caste, not just light skinned. Stop spreading flasehood |
wwwtortoise:The idea is not really to increase tax rates but to ensure more collection. Let's be honest with ourselves, those who evade tax are in the majority. Easier example that comes to mind is landlords. Like hundreds of billions change hands each year on rent, yet the landlords don't pay shi shi, because it's "impossible" to catch them when no data exists on who owns what property, what is rented etc. With data and integration alone making it much harder to evade tax, Nigeria can almost double it's tax revenue in 5 years. Unfortunately it will take hard work, focused disciplined work to achieve it and that's where we struggle as Nigerians. |
ijustdey:Poor planning as usual from Nigerian companies....how can all planes operated by the airline be undergoing maintenance at the same time? |

that baby factory culture in the south east was started by obed edom chukwuemeka azikiwe and lord lugard when they were bringing in white men and breeding them in baby factories with Igbo women so as to create a superior light skin class in which they will use to rule Nigeria like they did in India by lightening them up to create a ruling class. This why many Igbo are light skin today. Product of lord lugards baby factory . That plan to create a ruling light skin class backfired as Hausa eventually snatched power from Igbo .
