US visa has no specific pattern. I keep hearing people giving all sorts of tips. Let me share my wife's interview sometime ago.

VO: Hello, where in US are you going?
Wife: Philadephia.
VO: To do what?
Wife: Visit my inlaws.
VO: Where do you work?
Wife: I'm not working anymore as I resigned to take care of my kid.
VO: Who's paying for your trip?
Wife: Hubby
VO: Where does hubby work?
Wife: XYZ
VO: Travelled before?
Wife: With hubby to Dubai for honeymoon.
VO: Is hubby going with you?
Wife: No, just me and my kid. Hubby is busy at work.
VO: Pick up your visa in a few days.

No reasonable travel history, no job, not going with husband, visiting inlaws and u can decide to stay back. Like I keep saying, visa to US is like the lottery. Very unpredictable. Just pray for luck.

@cosade, what's the best thing to say @the interview when i re-apply? i will be arriving at a hotel but i have a friend in the US. is there a need to disclose that or just stick to my hotel?

Hello house please what do I do? I need someone with good experience. My sister is now in Mitigan US. Before she left, we opened a dollar account for her, in the process of opening the account, they said they needed two referees, we got that, after they confirmed that the two referees had called them, my sister tried to check into the hotel today, as they tried to use the card, it fell through. Right now, she sent me a whatsapp message becuase I was asleep, "i'm in trouble, they want to arrest me for fraud". We called the GTbank after five hours of receiving the message, I being one of the referee, called gtbank customer service. I was told they had processed it already that there are few questions she will need to answer, that there is a way she will need to use the card. Who has information on how to go about this? Please.

We are Nigerians and therefore saddled with the innate belief in God from time immemorial. A typical Nigerian believes that God will do everything for him/her. Understand my point, am not imposing belief in God on you, by all means, believe in anything that you fancy; but bringing the contempt to the public demoralizes the many that put their belief in God. For me, being spiritual does not mean suspension of the brain.
Writing 'God', or 'god' makes no difference in this context.
Some peeps here have had the worst interview, but somehow, they got the white paper, while some, after their top-notch preparations and dependence on self were denied. It's all about hardwork and grace. I just wanted to point this out. Cheers.

Just to be clear.. I said NEED not MUST . Where i stay you need a Car.. You cant rely on the Buses cos they pass every 15 Minutes and where you are going might be far from the bustop . If there were buses i for nor complain. In Nigeria i never had a car and didn't even complain, all my friends had cars, In fact i don't even know how to drive now. Here i Have to trek 25 Minutes before getting to school without bus. To go anywhere i have to use lyft or uber. If you see me trecking sef i am sure you would pity me and buy me a car cos am literally the only one trecking on the road. Oyibo sef they pity me..

Having a car in US is a necessity not luxury except you're in place like New York, Maryland, DC with good public transportation system.

the organisation I work for encourages staff to develop outselves academically for this reason staff members are perrmitted to go for academic development but shouldn't exceed a year, besides it will be a plus to my academic achievements as I will be due for promotion in the next few months

Sorry for the refusal. However I'll advise you not to reapply. Don't take this to be an insult but there's nothing spectacular or distinguishing you from the other zillion other applicants that have been denied. From your observation you were refused because you didn't have travel history
If you can afford to travel to the US then you can afford to travel to other countries. Again feeling bad because your documents weren't checked shows you truly didn't study this thread. Nobody has their documents checked. Yet again. America does not care that you need to go for a training in the future. If you are actually nominated for a training you will still be evaluated on merit.

@legrande that is just opinion that stems from your emotions. Lay aside sentiments and self evaluate yourself.

Got interviewed lastweek thursday, 7:am. decided to be on my native dress after fasting for 3-days.

A lady in the 1st cubicle closest to the entrance door

Transcript as follows:

ME: Good morning how're you doing today?
VO: No respond to greeting- Please pass your Passport
VO: Why are you going to the US?
ME: For Tourism Purpose
VO: What do you mean by Tourism purpose
ME: Yes, for Tourism purpose (was kind of nervous, voice was shaking, cos she was looking straight into my eyes and continue focusing on my eyes
VO: Can you please explain further
ME: I will be visiting Nebraska city for sight seeing and also to do some shopping for my wife and kids (with voice shaking a lil bit)
ME: (I know she has concluded the result right on that spot)
VO: Are you married
ME: Yes
VO: Do you have kids?
ME: Yes, 2-boys now
VO: Sorry, you are not eligible for US visiting visa at this time, you can always try again when you're ready to demonstrate your purpose of visit.

I don't really believe in following a script before interview because one can easily get derailed when the questions are not coming in the expected order or are rephrased.

You should rather learn how to respond to interview questions. You should be confident, audible, truthful and exhibit eye-to-eye contact etc. Truth is constant so your answers will always be same, even if the same question is rephrased.

Has anyone ever travelled with a ticket that your departure date is just before your visa expires and return date about one week after or thereabouts.

Not travelled with this visa yet but the ticket prices now are making me consider booking as I explained above.

I know on the Giving birth thread people have gone to the US just before their visa expired and left after expiry but they are pregnant so I don't know

Greeting great house and congrats to those who are about leaving for the US.

Please I have a few things I need the experts to clarify for me.

I have gained admission for Spring 2018 in a University and their Cost of attendance is about $18k. However, that is not my 1st Choice school. If after securing my visa and traveling to the US, and I get admission into my more preferred university for Fall 2018 which offer GA and tuition waiver, can I do a transfer? And if yes, do I have to return immediately to Nigeria or I can chill in the states till I can resume in my preferred institution?

Please what are the chances that I wouldn't be out of status?

As to answers to your questions

The intended new application my hubby is planning to apply for is an indefinite stay to live in the UK maybe it is also called the "SPOUSE VISA"

To your Second Question: I have been traveling to the UK before 2014 and it has been an invite from my Uncle and i have never mentioned my husbands name in any of my documents or applications. In fact i am still using my median maiden name i have not changed my name to my husbands name on my passport but which i intend to do soon since my passport has expired.

And then i did not make any arrangement with the NHS as to when and how i will be paying my bills (that is another aspect i am scared of) i just tried to make part payment of £1000 within a month of getting the invoice.

I hope even after making the payment my hubby will still be able to apply for me and the baby and our applications will not be denied?

Thanks Cosade, you are right, the questions may not come as one anticipates, but I have asked God to help me jam questions like that. I will even be happy if I have fewer questions to answer. As for the information, noted bro. I have my employment letter, sponsorship letter from him because he has been the one paying my school fees right from High School. I also have his personal account statement which comprises of the treasury bill and dividend account shaaa because he is to fund me from his personal account and not company's account.

As for my In-law sponsoring me, He has a treasury bill account with a good sum which usually brings him good returns every year, September to be precise and this money in the treasury bill is his retirement money to say, hope it wont raise issues? and also I told the VO during my first intervies that I would be sponsoring my first trip and now changing it to my in-law to sponsor me, Is it not going to be an issue?
