wadetaw202: Stop commenting like you just came to Nigeria yesterday in your disgusting effort at defending barbarism. You and I know that collecting union dues from those drivers can only be done right there on the road and not inside union building. How many drivers would drive into umioin building to lay their dues? Maybe none. How would the union finance their legal union activities if trhose dues are not paid?
It is even more disgusting that you recognise the "Nigerian factor" regarding collecting money from busses occupied by military men ( which is complete nonsense; one would think the military men are the ones feeding Nigeria), but you refuse to recognise same "Nigerian factor" regarding collection of union dues by the NURTW right on the road.
Whenever insults and abuses start coming into civil conversation then it's time for me to stop.
I have actually made my point and that is what our law says in my opinion.
nmreports: Even a day old chicken knows it's ICAN.
By extension, if your parents are not complaining, do it all in the UK. MSC, CFA, ACCA but focus in the ICAN certification because that's all what matters here in Nigeria.
You have already been properly advised by a number of Nairalander Chartered Accountants.
Just to emphasize that during your master's programme, my suggestion is that you should focus mainly on your M.Sc programme and the last stage of your ICAN programme. Do not bother yourself about any other certification as these may be unnecessary distractions.
When you're back in Nigeria, do not jump into banking work. Start with accountancy work by walking into any of the Big Four and tell them you want to work as a Qualified Trainee, you'll easily get such jobs. By ICAN regulation, I think within 24 months' training you'll be entitled to a practice licence. Of course, you'll be adequately paid during this period and can now read for your CFA and any other certification you may be interested in.
After getting your practice licence, you may start looking for work in the banks, oil companies etc. if you so desire.
wadetaw202: That poor guy brutalise and dehumanized by the military men is not an agbero. He is a staff of NURTW.
I really sympathies with the poor guy for being dehumanised that way, but the point you didn't get is that he has no business collecting money on the road, it is illegal. If he is a staff member of NURTW, he should be in the Union Building within the motor parks doing NURTW legitimate business.
NURTW is just like NUT, NUJ (for teachers and journalists respectively), and are suppose to look into welfare of their members. NURTW's major source of income should be union dues payable by its members and this should be administered within its secretariats in motor parks and not on the roads. What you see happening on the Lagos roads are illegal, however for reasons best known to government have decided not to enforce that law, but one day one administration will do.
wadetaw202: Agbero is a Yoruba word for those who receive passengers into a bus. And that man is not an agbero. He is a staff of NURTW. He is wearing a uniform and THERE IS NOTHING ILLEGAL ABOUT HIS ACTIVITIES. There is no reason under heaven why the military man should abuse him or anyone else. The military man abused his right and here you are defending HUMAN ABUSE and BARBARISMS
cosade: National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has no power to collect dues on the road, this is illegal. NURTW is only expected to collect union dues from its members (drivers and conductors), expected to be deducted from their salaries. This should be managed only within the motor parks and not on the road, what happens on the road is illegal. Only the local government is empowered to collect dues on the road and only in an orderly manner.
cosade: If it is the norm then it should be the standard, something acceptable and of course right.
It is erroneous to think that military men should not pay bus fare. Over time the military authorities have been issuing warning to its Officers and men against such unruly behaviors. See this timely warning issued by NRC yesterday.
The agbero business should be confined within motor parks, once it extends beyond that place then it is illegal whether they wear uniform or not. I do not support unruly behavior of our military and paramilitary men some of my earlier posts indicate this.
wadetaw202: Use your head and stop acting like a Buffon. Agbero is attached to a bus to receive passengers and it is a legal occupation. Stop commenting like a soul with decayed brain.
And the guy is not even an agbero; he is a member of staff of NURTW and he is wearing uniform.
You should be ashaned of your life for promoting military manhandling of civilians. It is a barbaric and backward conduct.
It looks like you are as barbaric and backward as the naval people you are supporting.
Have you ever heard of military men being given "special" treatments in developed parts of the world?
Extract that your useless brain from your anus and wash it with hypo so that it can be useful to you again.
Agbero is touting and it is an illegal activity outside motor parks in Lagos State. Though for a very long time, government has not been enforcing the law just like it did not, on the ban on street trading and hawking on highways and major roads, until recently.
It is good to make one's point without abusive words.
Greatzeus: So who do you agree with? Personally I think Clinton is a good moral loving politician, but America is the most hated country in the world,it needs more than moral and niceness in a person. America needs someone who can take hard decisions even if they are not morally justified,in other to protect its citizens and economy from its vast enemies. Besides,American Presidents are chosen by the powers that be ,you don't just have a dream to become American President like Ben Carson, you are fooling yourself .Both Clinton and Trump are being sponsored by the powers that be,either way it goes, these people wins. They own everything that matters, from the world bank to IMF,to entertainment companies, shopping malls, schools, name it
The World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund are co-owned by 189 member countries, including Nigeria. These member nations, have the ultimate decision-making power within the organizations on all matters, including policy, financial or membership issues.
However, this does not mean there are no firsts among equals, but the fact is that World Bank and IMF are not 100% owned by US, but jointly by 189 countries.
ki02020: Norm is not necessarily right... and besides not paying for transport service is one of the privileges enjoyed by the force men
If it is the norm then it should be the standard, something acceptable and of course right.
It is erroneous to think that military men should not pay bus fare. Over time the military authorities have been issuing warning to its Officers and men against such unruly behaviors. See this timely warning issued by NRC yesterday.
ki02020: Well it depends on what your definition of norm is...from my teenage level down to adulthood that has always happen...a personnel from the force is regarded as a staff in public buses and they don't pay T fare ...that to me is a norm
Something wrongly done repeatedly, does not make it right.
idupaul: Its the responsibility of FAAN to collect all airspace and airport dues and they do before any flight can leave and it's the responsibility of the NURTW to collect bus dues on roads and yet this rating is interfering. .The fact that out of goodwill they are usually not taxed doesn't mean it's their right oo
National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has no power to collect dues on the road, this is illegal. NURTW is only expected to collect union dues from its members (drivers and conductors), expected to be deducted from their salaries. tohpahz: Turkz problem is dat the funds for the coup was transferred thru Naija, so the best bet is through the Turkish schools. I fear for that country sha.
There are no facts in the public domain to support this.
It is not unusual for investors to remit part of their profits back home. If Turkish Financial Intelligence Systems failed to detect what the funds are used for, then that is non of our business. One of the reasons why our currency got battered is because foreign investors complained they could not easily get access to foreign exchange to repatriate home the dividends on their investments in Nigeria. This led to the floating of the Naira and today, our currency has been badly battered.
When over 15,000 people (mostly professors, school teachers, judges, civil servants etc) are arrested for being part of a coup, then this is beyond the issue of a military coup.
My view is that the self-exiled opposition leader Fethullah Gulen, the Muslim cleric based in US is the target and the Turkish government wants paralyse his businesses and that of his associates, worldwide.
achinaboy: @Cosade, you post is educating, but the aassshole @coolgent,is throwing unnecessary stone, drugs should not be justified, but people pass through ssshit in this life, people are suffering for one reason or the other, so don't blame anyone for whatsoever decision they made to better their life, if they survive ok,if not so be it,afterall people blow their self up,hopping to meet 7virgin in the afterlife ponder on that aaassshole @coolgent
In my post I clearly stated a disclaimer that I was not passing any judgement because God Almighty is the final judge, so I did not blame anyone for whatsoever decision they made to better their life. I only thought I should share the warning issued by the Indonesia Government as take away from that executions, and at the same time let Nigerians see avoidable ugly situation they can get themselves into, by engaging in drug trafficking.
In the past few days, the social media is awash with news of the execution of four drug convicts. A number of people have equally expressed doubts if the convicts actually committed the crime. Some faulted the legal process.
The fact is that the executions on a remote prison island went ahead, despite strong protests from international rights groups, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the European Union who had urged Indonesia not to proceed.
Four inmates — three Nigerians and one Indonesian — were put to death just after midnight last Thursday. One of the Nigerian prisoners was cremated hours later, while the bodies of the three others were being prepared for burial.
Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo said Friday the 10 inmates had been returned to their cells, suggesting their executions were not imminent.
“The fate of the other 10 we will determine later. We will see when the right time will be,” Prasetyo told reporters.
This strong warning is the take away I want to share with my Nigerian brothers. For those who doubted if those Nigerians were arrested, tried and convicted justly, please watch this video.
My action is neither to pass judgement (because God Almighty is the final judge), nor endorse the actions of Indonesia Government but only to give a timely warning not to do it (not to engage in drug trafficking).

Dobxy: If the execution had happened in the north or any other Islam Countries, the comments would be like 'Islam is this, Islam is that' forgetting that the word 'Sharia' itself means 'Law'.....so, anyone found guilty should face the consequence, no pity @all....I'm still of the opinion that Nigeria should introduce 'Death Penalty' to some to major crimes in Nigeria, anyone who misappropriate public fund from 1million upward should face death penalty, and other crimes....this is not because I'm in interested in killing fellow citizen but to discourage crime & corruptions and serve as deterrent to others!!!
Indonesia has an estimated population of over 258 million people and is the world's fourth most populous country as well as the most populous Muslim majority country. Source: Wikipedia
The penalty for trafficking in drug in most Asian countries is death sentence this include China that is not an Islamic state.
Achorise: If our politicians had done the needful, who will delve into drug peddling.
But this kind of punishment isn't the best.
See Anabel's comment below
Anabel: The law is the law. You break it, you pay the price. Some Nigerians want fast money. They will go there and blame the government. Is it not the same government that is governing a furniture designer and a cobler? Think big but think legally big... May God help us all
maestroferddi: If we are to follow your logic that Igbos predominate as Catholics in Lagos, then the Holy See at the Vatican should have appointed an Igboman as the bishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos.
But because the Catholic Church has a practical understanding of church administration, the current bishop is Adewale Martins and not an Igboman.
Fairness is fairness so need trying to rationalize an anomaly...
Compare apple with apple, tell us how many RCCG parishes in the SE or SS that are headed by Yorubas.
Talking about fairness, if you don't even expect a Yoruba Catholic Priest to serve in Yorubaland then will you even give him a chance to serve in Iboland? How many Yorubas are employed in the civil service in SE? What am I even talking when Imo State and another SE state were sacking civil servants from each other's state, as if they weren't from the same region.
josephni12: I've personally noticed something peculiar to the Redeemed Christian church of God which I am not comfortable with. The Bible warns that we should not give chance for people to question our faith our unity in the body of Christ. In other churches, like deeper life, chosen, mountain on fire etc state and regional pastorship have always been of people of different tribes as the case may be,
But it's not so with in Redeemed Christian Church of God were MOST (not ALL about (86%)). of their regional / state pastors are most Yoruba's in almost every state in nigeria. Is it that the people mostly trusted to be Good pastors to handle that PARTICULAR POSITION are from one particular tribe? This is what is happening currently in our Government. Please, constructive criticism no tribalism.
If you go to most Catholic Churches in Lagos, they are dominated by the Igbos. Does that mean that Catholic Church is Igbo Church? Of course, No. The fact is that most Yorubas have left the Orthodox Churches for the Pentecotal Churches that is why RCCG, Four Square, MFM, Winners and the likes appear to look like Yoruba Churches.
I once went to a Catholic Church that we pioneered in Bariga in 1975, I could hardly see any Yoruba family in that Church. I also went to another Catholic Church in Agege two years ago, I overheard some Yorubas complaining of being marginalized in the church by the Igbos.
As already outlined by other Nairalanders, in RCCG the training path is known and open to all members. My son has already graduated from the discipleship class because that is his choice.
mrkayusfit: The only means which men can be saved is Islam. Our holy prophet Muhammed (pbuh) brought islam as the only true and peaceful religion from Allah. You will be a Muslim one day when Islam conquers the world
Not after everyone had been executed, even for funny things like playing football!

mrkayusfit: Only Allah knows what really transpired between the woman and her assailants that day. She might be preaching inciteful messages that were too hard to bare. Even tho i condemn the action of the killers, by preaching around a mosque makes her actions daring. It's like an imam coming to preach in a church territory. I suggest the government ban street evangelism so cases like this can be averted in future. It is wrong to go around with megaphone and start preaching as early as 5am when people are resting. Those who blame Islam for her death are just displaying ignorance. We cannot use the action of few to judge the entire muslims. Islam remains a peaceful and tolerant religion.
What kind of noise will a battery operated megaphone make that cannot be tolerated? Everyday, I am woken up at about 5.00 am from the call to prayer coming from the loud speaker from a mosque near my house. This is what I'll call tolerance.
PigMeat: islam is the only breeding ground for evil interprises to thrive. From terrorism to ritualists, anything evil, e.t.c
These attacks are getting too much and it is a shame that up till now our Government has not condemned them in the strongest terms. May be it's time to carve out an Islamic State for them out of Nigeria, where they live in according to their faith and let us be.
At least we can be spared, reading such nauseating remarks. How could any sensible human being make such a remark? Rejoicing over the gruesome killing of someone!
Well, may be I am expecting too much! Even in the ISIS Republic, fellow Muslims were killed for playing football. Does that make any sense?

68816419: Same as Tianjin Metro Line 3, but i feel Lagos is not ready for this as it is a misplace priority
This part of the reasons why some sections of the country want to develop at its pace. Your "misplaced priority" would have been done in the early 80s by the visionary Baba Jakande when he was the Governor of Lagos State, if not cancelled by GMB administration.
colli247: this is creativity not certificate lovers think of some different naija youth not BSC,HND,MASTER,PGD,PHD,APC,ICPC,EFFC CERTIFICATE WITHOUT SENSE
ebenholer: Niger is there land already so need of panicking about that. But no place for them in Nigeria here. It's good they are finding there base in Niger.
Bosso is a border town (marked red in the attached screenshot). With our porous border, the locals cross easily between Nigeria and Niger.
Asssmasher: I'm in a state Of limbo presently,by that,I mean I'm in a Confused Swamp of dilemma. I just Finished with SLT in a Federal polytechnic,I'm very confused about the course to study.I have 2 courses in mind which are ;Medicine and pharmacy.
I like both courses but I wanna be rich,,,I mean I wan make this moneyyy... I have passion for both courses but I have to know which one is more lucrative. Forget the passion talk shii,,I'll definitely survive if I go through any of the two despite the level of rigor.I'm 100% sure of that.
Just illuminate d dark in respect to which of the two earn biggerAbeg!!!! No unnecessary admonitions.. No matter how zenithal the height of passion one has for a course, one has to consider the lucrativeness. No be our fault,Na naija cause am...
Go for medicine, since you have passion and mental capabilities for both. In Nigeria, the Doctors head the health sector if not na wahala. Any time the Minister of Health is not a Medical Doctor, the Medical Doctors will always go on strike.
As a Medical Doctor, you will be able to set up your own business and also "encroach" on others in health sector. In your hospital, you can have pharmacy, laboratory etc, however, as a Pharmacist you can't open a clinic in your pharmacy.
So I am of the view that if you want to practice in Nigeria, then medicine is it.
wildQuincy: Do you know how to read at all or you just jumped into the issue without bieng aware of the facts? Ikpeazu didn't defraud the government since his tax has already been deducted! The issue here is the tax papers allegedly forged of which the issuers have already cleared the air that it wasn't fake! Pls try to know what you are commenting on to avoid embarassing yourself in public. Thanks!
From the information available in the public domain, a prima facie case of forgery of tax receipts has been established, the Judge said so. The bolded is misleading and a cover up. The explanation from the tax office cannot fly, it is a hoax! Someone has be held for his actions and/or inactions.
nwadiuko1: who wants to bet? Ikpeazu will come out of all this...victorious?....
it may play out like this.....abang okon grants the stay of execution on Thursday, the Federal High Court owerri rules in favour of ikpeazu on the same day ( note Abia board of internal revenue has clarified the issue in contention)...........then........we l wait for okezie's appeal judgement and FN nwosu's appeal (which is very unlikely)........... who wants to bet? 100k
nwadiuko1: wole olanipekun has always represented okezie at least since this governoship stuff but.....yeah I agree the previous legal team wasn't up and doing.........so you wanna bet?
