...non-permanent UNSC seat which is rotational |
abiodunalasa:Nah! Normally I made the point and don't need to do this but again just for you and not those with benign thoughts and making incorrect sentences for narrow agendas like "Nigeria is now the poorest country in the world (actually it is a report from the period of the recession showing the number of the poor in Nigeria went up)", such is how low some will go to appear relevant just like their holding at every straw of visibility however irrelevant and clutching at any insignificant role of the UN in the DRC that the world has moved on from—A thing Nigeria has done and dusted since the 60's and is still doing if it chooses—that is. Nigeria gets the non-permanent UNSC seat whenever it chooses to. It merely allows small countries in West Africa a chance too at the table. You don't need make noise when you are a giant because you are heard when you speak. Nigeria actually sometimes sheiks itself of these responsibilities because when the chips are down it ends up carrying the cross. We saw it in Liberia and Sierra Leone and one reason we refrained from getting bogged down in Somalia and elsewhere. As regards your mention, Nigeria does not go beggar-thy-neighbor for aid. Never has and never will. Source for foreign or local funding for specific development projects: Yes! That depending on the government of the day but Nigeria receives no aid package to support it's budget as it's common with many small countries not only in Africa but around the world. A large population is a kings glory from time immemorial. While that has it's advantages it also has it's disadvantages. The positive is if you have the right leadership to galvanize it into economic prosperity as we see in China today or even the United States after the depression. Nigeria has not yet had that blessing of good leadership to reflect it's true potential albeit it has had the leadership that has managed to keep it's multi-national entities as one country and in that size and natural resources both human and material that comes with it lies it's humongous might compared with contemporary African states. You have to understand the geo-political balance of power in relations between states which is reflected in the level of honor or prestige they accord each other in diplomacy. Your mention would insinuate Nigeria is a declining power but that's not the case, in fact it is the opposite. Despite it's current travails a democratic Nigeria today has more diplomatic, economic and military clout than at any time in it's history save for the first and second republics of Tafawa Belewa and Shehu Shagari. Very few countries have their presidents honored with a reception at the airport by a host head of state. That is an honor reserved for truly big powers like the United States etc. In many cases lower level officials play that protocol depending on bilateral relations. In Africa and elsewhere Nigerian Presidents are accorded that privilege by kings and heads of state in acknowledgement of it's weight as a regional power. That hasn't changed and won't change except Nigeria ceases to exist as one country. This is one indicator that you matter. |
abiodunalasa:No no not exactly but I comprehend your point. There are countries that never forget our help. I'll give a brief treatise just for you: We saw the height of that during the tussle for the AU chair role and the Ivory Coast debacle during the Jacob Zuma presidency in SA who came onboard and felt his country is better placed to play the role of Africa's strongman discarding the intellectual foreign policy approach of his predecessor Thabo Mbeki in engaging Nigeria on matters of the continent. To do that he went beyond his country's SADC sphere of political influence to divide generally consensus support for the Nigerian position on many continental issues at great expense. This led to many firsts of some AU members states voting for SA' candidate instead of Jean Ping of Gabon. Jacob Zuma had just made a very bad mistake that would cost his nation. Of course the retaliation was swift from Abuja which always has measures in the bag to keep the balance of it's regional hegemony. Until then Abuja was willing to wait and not displace SA from a place in the sun at least for matters of strategic perception and bragging rights. President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was miffed and immediately approved the rebasing of the national economy against all lobby effectively knocking South Africa forever into political oblivion and ending it's bragging rights on the world stage. It was a huge loss of prestige. Historically however and to this day except for the position of AU chair for which it influences a consensus position which it believes should be held by smaller states, Nigeria has a deliberate foreign policy goal of promoting harmony in the AU and not appear a bully. It does not impose it's will on the choices of AU member states who even votes against Nigerian nationals for other positions at the African Union in Addis-Ababa. Nigeria is the most influential African country. There is no other African nation with more influence on other African countries on a bilateral basis than Nigeria. When Nigeria means business Africa takes it's word seriously knowing it could muster the forces in the region to back it up with action either by economic measures or the use of force if necessary. |
President of Namibia Hage Geingob following on the heels of Macron of France visits Abuja. He said to his host President Buhari that Namibia will eternally be grateful to Nigeria for its liberation and it's Technical Aid Support.

bidexiii:This is another version of propaganda that never happened. Mursi was duly elected and was operating by the book but Saudi Arabia and it's brand of intolerant Islam that is a problem for the whole world today prompted the coup led by it's lackey Sisi who was in a position to do so using the pretext of the Muslim Brotherhood as a threat. Following events in real time shows Mursi made strenuous efforts to appear neutral and making concessions. The Muslim Brotherhood has never been accepted by forces aligned with Saudi Arabia both in the region and in Egypt itself. The Muslim brotherhood could never have caused a Libya and only reacted based on the Sisi putsch which was minimal. The Egyptian High command didn't fall apart and maintained control. Sisi is a brutal dictator. He romanced America but was turned down. The forces at play in Egypt has never tolerated representative rule. Reasons are always advanced for every coup but that don't make them justified. The opposition that wanted Mursi out of power are not in the majority. Sisi has brutally cracked down on dissent like no where else in the world. |

bidexiii:Sorry to disagree with all this propaganda to justify the removal of the duly elected government of Mohammed Mursi by his own appointed military chief Sisi in a coup sponsored by Saudi Arabia & Co. which now funds all the largesse you post on here for the Egyptian Arab Military. That guy Sisi is now the world's most brutal dictator that even the Americans don't want to have anything to do with it. I understand your appreciation for all that weaponry as any Army officer would to have all the resources necessary to get the job done but then again victory is not always on the side of the mighty and Sisi just like all other brutal dictators will have his day of reckoning and it won't be pretty. For us to move on in Africa and develop like the rest we must loathe and desist from paranoia suffering autocratic regimes of one man rule however good intentioned. |
jln115:For starters I don't refer to the Armed Forces of The Federal Republic of Nigeria as the "NDF". So hold your fire and look elsewhere. Your response to the 3 & 4 parts of my mention you highlighted shows you are pained moreso grievously pained by envy. Well of course you lack such mechanisms back home. No surprise there but pls save us ur pain. Your lack of exposure being self-evident in your insistence on what is wrong is not my fault rather perhaps a reason of u being a Protègè of the cynic thinking that emanates from Soweto yet again I'll help your insolence one more time in that the fund referred to is only a cover for nocturnal national duties and can more accurately be called what I termed it. That you are not in the intelligence business should make you all the more humble to learn. Brilliant minds on here grasp my point. Would you too jln115 and follow suit. |
jln115:Bored my foot! Are you in the island of the blind. Tolerating your abuse of the acronym "NDF" in reference to the honored men and women under arms in Nigeria does not mean I don't have an issue with it. I watched this long giving the signs all along by using the correct designation to see if you would tow the path of honor and correct yourself but you clearly deliberately remained provocative. Again I'll tell you for the umpteenth time the "NDF" as you insinuate does not exist in Nigeria. What exists is the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Copy! And you especially must get over this obsession with Nigeria's defense budget. We have told you repeatedly that Nigeria has multiple sources of funding for it's defense needs. Nigeria's defense budget in it's totality as I've told you time and time again is opaque and what is expended yearly is much more than what obtains on paper that way sensitive national security investments are classified. In this case the "NDF" I refer to is a National Development Fund one of such vehicles which the Federal Government uses to fund sundry and state related covert and overt requirements in furtherance of national security objectives. |
French President Macron In Abuja Hosted By President Buhari@Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
|
jln115:It is a free world so you could choose to distort facts & acronyms which obviously shows your lack of decorum and respect for others—a bad thing. The "NDF" in my mention you copied does not represent your misguided thinking but is the acronym for Nigeria's "National Defence Fund". The Nigerian military is officially known as The Armed Forces of Nigeria or The Nigerian Armed Forces or unofficially the Nigerian Military. Act accordingly jln115. Would be appreciated. |
SSGN:Jokers on here like the one telling us the Turkish military is at par with the Russian military now "Cameroon soldiers better armed and trained" than the giant next door. Soon we will start hearing mangoes grow on orange trees and Bangui can overrun Abuja in a fortnight. Wetin we no go hear! ![]() |
jln115:Why self-contradictory...act accordingly and make the right reference. Except you want to be deliberately provocative you won't repeat the same mistake which is not the first time. Every country has an official designation for its military forces just like you have your SANDF. The "NDF" does not exist in Nigeria. What exists is The Nigerian Armed Forces. |
SternProphet:Dude go and read up on the Sukhoi's and Mig-35. You won't be talking this rubbish. |
SternProphet:Apparently I'm talking to a 13 year old. What don't you understand! I'll help you. The F-22s that are stealth weren't even aware the Su-35 was above them and had their positions locked. The lone Su-35 rapidly descended before they picked it up but then he had them locked. Now think...then think again. |
SternProphet:Nearly every country outside of NATO uses Russian stuff including some NATO countries. Any one not wanting to be subject to sanctions when it comes to sensitive national security needs buys Russian or outsourced Russian technology in this case Chinese. Yes Russian high-end Fighters are expensive to run and maintain but I'll tell you they are meant for real war. These guys build to kill. To this day even the F-22 does not come close to the maneuverability of the Su-30. A disadvantage in dog-fight and when it comes to the intelligent systems and stealth that is touted to give the F-22 and F-35 the edge the Russians and Chinese have developed and are developing the capability to neutralize it. Maybe tomorrow but today an Su-35 piloted by a Russian will give the Americans a run for their money. That I can bet you. In war it is what works that counts not unproven hype. |
SternProphet:Dude Wikipedia is heavily edited. And in this world of battle supremacy between superpowers all most everyone lies to market overhyped and overpriced weapons and equipment or at the least to save face in engagement failures. Your posts reeks of one who clearly listens too much to talking heads on TV or skewed information on the internet rather than practical knowledge of the military defense system. When they tell you precision strikes it doesn't always mean a hundred percent kill. It is often in meters within the target. Every expert objective Syrian watcher knows their was an air interdiction of two US F-22s by a lone Russian Su-35 over the Euphrates. How that was possible is now a matter of disinformation by the intelligence of both countries. But did it happen yes it did. |
jln115:Pray tell pls what do you mean by the acronym "NDF" in your quote jln115? |
jpphilips:Kinda find ur ? interesting lol! But joke apart warfare is not picnic; men die. The soldier performed what is called evasion tactics. That's a professional Nigerian Army serviceman trained for combat. You can see how he quickly took in he's environment with one shot busts to pick his "danger close" target while taking fire and seeing he was outnumbered and outgunned with one man down and the enemy closing in on him, he ran, ducked, took flat cover timing the approach of his aggressor and engaged in hand-to-hand combat disarming and immobilizing the enemy fighter and quickly ran for escape in the bushes. Anything short of that he'd be dead. Having said that it is important to note that most Bokos (not all) have poor marksmanship compared to the average soldier. Terrorists tend to fire at random without picking targets for a clean hit. Nigerian soldiers however are well trained to use one bullet for one man or two to make sure. Still there are fighting situations necessitating rapid fire. That soldier is a hero. |
Henry240:I'm reading him and be like someone is living on planet Mars. This is the kind of s.hit some people write on nairaland you want to go gaga cos u don't know where to start. Russian Aerospace Forces Su-30s shown all over the screen everyday blasting enemies of Assad to smithereens turning the tide of the war in his favor. A single Russian Su-35 even interdicting two US Air Force F-22s. But again they say "if you lie a thousand times it becomes truth". So you wonder what the agenda is here. It is alarming the length people will go to peddle falsehood or just outright ignorance displayed as symptom of a much bigger human complex. It's a shame. A big shame. Me too I give up! |
ssaengine:Sometimes I wonder what you are drinking for your recurrent hallucinations. "Kettle calling the pot black". Better be your last reply cos its meaningless. Nigeria is arguably the only African Country that can with its foreign technical partners produce sophistcated systems in very little time and in most cases even alone. This has been proven over and over again even during the Biafran war. This is 2018 not 1945. The evidence abounds from work done on our Fighter Aircrafts to other weapon systems in military arsenal. That you cant do it in short time doesn´t mean others can´t. Necessity makes it urgent for us to do so and we do being a Nation unofficially at war on multiple fronts and still Standing to your chagrin. That u refuse to see it with the cynic 5-10 yrs story we hear all the time is your problem. Even when the Army chief tells u in clear terms a LUH is in the works u still chose to dampen the reality. Even locals who have never seen the four walls of a University have been known to produce helicopters and crude aircrafts in Nigeria. You Need to visit Nigeria so that u stop for a Moment and admit your Country in no measure will ever be able to match our capacity to wage and win a war in this Region. Speaking of human potential If you have ever been to other african countries and come to Nigeria you can´t help but attest to the level of human ingenuity and creativity here and the size of it. The Americans don´t call us Africa´s most important Country because of oil. These are a people bamboolzed by succesive Nigerian governments yet thrive. Even General Babangida admitted how he is baffled the Nigerian economy didn´t collapse under his Military administration thanks to its People. The African presidents who flock to Abuja or give a stately welcome to Nigerian presidents like they would a US president to guarantee their Regimes know better than u do. But the Point is even if it takes us 200 yrs or 10 yrs to do LUH which is laughable what is your Problem! Obviously the Nigerian Missile Story gives you sleepless nights. Brace yourself for more. Delusions of Grandeur are for those like you and your Peers here who think they know something but actually knows nothing. |
SternProphet:Rubbish |
ssaengine:Story for the gods. Lol! The same old cliché! It is the glee of some to poke a hole in every Nigerian success story. Henry knows exactly what he's talking about. Even Nuclear weapons and it's delivery systems is no longer rocket science talk less of LUH. Even when is blasted in you guys face every day the ingenuity of the Nigerian you still choose the shallow path of dishonor. Nigeria is only showing that in a time of war much like the Americans in WW11 it has the capacity to bring to bear the needed resources both human and material on a huge scale to win the war in this region. To inform you those Nigerian missiles are not in limbo. They do exist...the engineers are continuously working on it to make it behave more intelligently. Nigeria does have weapon capabilities not known in public. I leave here. |

jln115:...hmmm help me to misunderstand your answer. It was a simple question. If 2-3 are active for Transport what is with the 7 AVAILABLE out of 9? Available for what? Pictures..! Or perhaps moribound? Those Aircrafts you posted with Nos. are they all flyable and in optimal Service? |
jakeporeshenko:Speaking of the 6 I mean the haul of the 80´s not those of the 70´s of which one crashed at Ejigbo in 1992. My hunch is 6 with the refit. |

jln115:So they told you all your C-130s are currently active? |
