Olivegreen: To be honest, I never really knew who Glory Osei was up until yesterday and so I did my research on her.
From all that I gathered, Glory Osei is NOT A FEMINIST rather, she is an extrimist. A female sexist and an extrimist who has an unreasonable hate for men (despite the fact that she married one )
Please let us not be decieved by her self acclaimed title, feminist. She only uses the title to disguise her sentimental judgement of men.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a renowed feminist icon who trully knows what feminism is about and is passionate about changing the society to favour women rather than compel them to be silent, complacent, and very limited.
Feminism is not about hating men. In fact, feminism is not centered on men, it is centered on the entire society. We are not attacking men we are simply attacking certain cultures and societal principles that are degrading and dehumanizing women. We are simply fighting for the acknowledgement of the rights and privileges that every woman should be entitled to.
We do not seek a society were wives are rude and unsubmissive to their husbands or where girls are hateful and intolerant of their male counterparts, we seek a society were marriage is convenient for both husband and wife and girls have big dreams and aspire as much as they desire and not just as much as society compels them to.
We seek freedom, justice, equality, love and acknowledgement .
I am not a man-hater, I believe I am not rude, unruly, bossy, or contrary.
I am a feminist I doubt if any sensible person was ever deceived, don't kid yourself. We can always tell who walks their talk. For instance, you have typed a lot to express your position but ended up being guilty of the same attaché feminism most of you are known for. You can't stop talking about Chimamanda. Chimamanda this, Chimamanda that - at least she has a platform which she uses to reach and touch people. But you as a feminist, what have you done/what are you doing? We don't know you here in Libya. |

bukatyne: I always have a problem with extremists.
Anyways, I find Nigerian 'role models' not to be my cup of tea.
If they are not fraudsters, they are married pretending to be single, single pretending to be married, have 100 side chics or boos while claiming to be best spouses, hellish spouses while claiming to be saints etc.
My wonder are people especially ladies who pattern their lives according to these people. Do they lack acceptance that they would belong to anything? Are they bereft of critical thinking that they can't make their choices? Are they visionless that anyway is the way?
I heard a chic broke up with her dude because of this Glory babe and was wailing when the news broke.
I say to the dude: good riddance to bad rubbish.
You don't want a woman who lacks character and strong awareness of self to be the mother of your future generation. The gods found a vessel in you. |

Their own passion for gender equality is NEVER strong enough to risk their lives, or even to spoil that perfect makeup. It's only to ride on the noble successes of the truly strong women who paved the way, all from the comfort & safety of a phone screen or PC. LordKO: As much as it isn't (or may not be) a woman's responsibility to wash her husband's cloth - either manually or mechanically - or a husband's right to expect such, yet doing so is one of those selfless acts/little things that matter. It's a simple act of either altruism or conscientiousness subject to circumstances. One shouldn't lose humaneness all in the name of emancipation/wokeness. And I don't see a big deal if a man does same or something different of same nature for a wife. A husband and wife aren't supposed to be either frenemies or enemies living together. Anyway, it's obvious that most of you personify inhumaneness and are from dysfunctional and unhappy homes.
In fact, if a woman who's an opportunity cannot volitionally/voluntarily and joyfully wash her husband's cloth, all because of conceit/pride/egotism and self-centeredness/selfishness/greediness/egoism, I wonder why she would expect/accept any form of humane act either in tangible/material or intangible/immaterial form from the same husband.
Sanely, brutishness/meanness/heartlessness/wickedness - small-mindedness in general - shouldn't be something to brag about, so I wonder why most of you now always proudly and openly arrogate same to yourselves - wannabe modern/super/emancipated men and women. SMH. The substance of this comment (is/will definitely be) lost on those it was intended for. |

Olivegreen: It is clear that most of you nairaland men don't have a shred of understanding of the concept of feminism.
A feminist got married, congratulations to her. Feminism doesn't require women to be single all their life it only requires them to be aware of their equality with their male counterparts.
I know a lot of renowed feminist who are married. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is married, Hillary Clinton is married, Mitchelle Obama is married qnd so many others.
Before you speak against feminism please first of all have an idea of what feminism means and what we feminist stand for. As a Nigerian feminist living in Nigeria, what do you stand for? Let's start from there. |

Family › Re: Should Working Class Wives Be Given 'Upkeep'? by crackhaus: 3:48pm On Oct 27, 2019 |
bukatyne: I am serious.
I grew up in an all Igbo community (we were just two Yoruba on a very long street) so I have first hand experience on some of their way of life.
We've had a similar discussion where I told you that housewifery or a man fully responsible for home financially is not a Yoruba thing.
In fact, an housewife or financially non-contributing wife is called alabodo (someone you feed to fvck). To not say that there are no outliners.
Igbos however pride themselves in fully financing the home (I see this even in my colleagues with working wives). Growing up, most of the Igbo wives literally did not leave the house except to market or parties while you saw the husbands hustling (legit and non). The downside was that the men's words were law and upon the breakdown of the marriage, the wives did not leave with a pin so the marriage must not break.
Comparing this to pre-colonial times when everyone farmed, where was the cultural shift for them?
Igbos can also pitch in. My submission on the idea of housewives being relatively a new invention, is based off the pre-colonial period. By the time salaried jobs became the source of income in families, men are the ones who got most of the jobs particularly due to physical strength. It's the same reason men were educated more than women - the time and concentration it took to earn a degree would have made women ditch the markets which was the only way farm produce could be turned into cash. It made sense for the males to go to school while females continued in the farms and selling what they harvest. |

Family › Re: Should Working Class Wives Be Given 'Upkeep'? by crackhaus: 3:03pm On Oct 27, 2019 |
Plead: She’s somehow right sha ... in the west , if a couple should divorce and one is jobless (during the time of the divorce ) the one that is working will be required to settle the non-working ex so that the ex can find her/his feet until he/she gets a job.
Alimony also comes into the equation... the richer spouse pays money to the lesser earning spouse during divorce (if the other person request for it....men hardly request for alimony if they’re the ones earning less,it’s mostly women who request for it) You realize that alimony is only given to non-earning women who by some reason decide to be stay-at-home wives by joint decision between them and their husbands right? The alimony given to lesser earning spouses is not what Buka was referring to. However, this one is even rare especially when there are no children from the marriage... and in situations where it is given, it is usually for a specified period NOT a lifetime. I get your point anyway |

bukatyne: Ever heard of mommy guilt?
Or the conservative West's interpretation of Titus 2:3?
According to a research, Scandinavian women work less hours and less stressful jobs despite living in the most 'equal' society.
Their housewifery is not like ours. They volunteer for all sorts and revolve their lives around their children.
Alimony. Less hours and less stressful jobs does not make one a housewife, but I get where you're going. |

Plead: Meaning men who insist that they’ll give their wives upkeep and also responsible for 100% of spendings shouldn’t allow their wives to work.... in the days of old , only men work (traditional settings ) so if you want to continue claiming traditional then don’t allow your wife work since you’re stressing her Don't join in this gross misinformation which has become an anthem on the pages of the internet. It is a lie. In the days of our grandparents and great-grandparents, women worked. There are more housewives today than it was in those days. Farming was the major source of livelihood and who do you think did the harvesting and selling of farm produce in the markets? Women. Most times it was even across villages miles apart, these women did those things and still handled chores in the home front when they got back. The men only cultivated the lands and planted, lands which were usually in their backyards. It wasn't until the missionaries and colonial masters began introducing menial/manual jobs in the form of factories, railway building, construction, etc that men began leaving home to work for salaries. Don't take my word for it, ask about your ancestral history and confirm this. I know things about my great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents from stories that were passed down. There was NEVER anything like a housewife in those days. |

Plead: Neither do I.
I don’t receive salary with the intention of spending it on the frivolities you just mentioned Now do you see the difference between basic male thinking and female thinking? What you just called frivolities is the second biggest reason for troubled marriages. Those are not frivolities to women |
Family › Re: He Cheated And Blames Me by crackhaus: 2:11pm On Oct 27, 2019 |
bukatyne: Hahahahahahaha
Leave her na. They should drag her very well oo. These women here need to understand that the divorce solution they so easily administer is not that easy to follow through if they were in similar situations. I remember typing something to you sometime last week or so about how majority of the females on NL forgive/have forgiven/will forgive their cheating husbands. Most of them are also the ones doing all the chores in their homes despite working. The internet just provides a platform to share an idealized version of how marriages should be, not how it really is for them. |
