Really?
Yes my brother...its a sin. I don't know how else I would explain to you.

Any act you commit that goes contrary to your conscience, is a sin...sex which I explained earlier, is a typical example because it makes you feel guilty, used (women experience this aspect most), it also leaves you with lots of regrets once your through.

So even without even confirming from the bible, you should that sex is bad, because it brings more harm than good...and that abstinence is the best advice you can offer to someone.
Are those laws not from the old testament? I thought old testament laws have passed away?
Nope they're not from the old testament...take your time to read it properly. Galatians is a book in the new testament.
Thanks man. You're right though, abstaining is difficult as hell. I am facing so much temptation . . .sad
Yea I know its difficult...

In Philippians 4:13  I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.

Jesus is willing to strengthen you so you can over come that temptation of s^exual immorality. All you have to do is open up your heart to him...and believe he would give you strength beyond your imagination.
It was possible that they were dragging the clothes to get them as a souvenir. Not cos they were expensive.
Ok let's use common sense to analyze this passage...reading Mark 14:56 till chapter 15...

This passage tells us of how Jesus was mocked, spat on, crowned with a crown of thongs, severely beaten etc...now do you really think that the men who did all those awful things to him would have bothered about his garment if it was worthless?

They saw the value in cloth he was wearing that's why they took their precious time to gamble for it.
Christianity EtcRe: * by CrazyMan(m):
^I do have other questions.
1. As a Christian would I be allowed to have s^ëx without being married? I was talking to a Christian friend and they said that there is no verse in the Bible that explicitly forbids fornication.
S^ex is a sin. And for that your friend, he probably isn't a praticing christian...therefore I would suggest that you avoid discussing biblical issues with him, so you won't get yourself confused.

1 Chorinthians 6:12-20.  "I have the right to do anything," you say—but not everything is beneficial. "I have the right to do anything"—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 You say, "Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both." The body, however, is not meant for s^exual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a p^rostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a p^rostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh."17 But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.

18 Flee from s^exual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins s^exually, sins against their own body. 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

God specifically warned us to abstain from s^ex and that passage shows that clearly...so like I stated earlier, your friend is wrong.

Also, I know that abstainance might look very difficult considering the fact that you're a youth, and we're in a corrupt age where even social networks and medias all encourage s^exual immorality.

Therefore, it would be quite a task trying to keep a growin christian away from it. But I would advise you notwithstanding that whenever you feel the urge to engage yourself in it (s^exual immorality), think of the disadvantes (such as STDs, unwanted pregnancies, heartbreak etc...) Associated with it, and ask yourself if its really worth the risk.
2. You mentioned that the Bible does not forbid pursuing legitimate wealth and being wealthy, what about that verse in the Bible that says it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
True...but remember that there were also rich men in the bible who used their wealth to serve God.

Acts 4:36-37.  Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means "son of encouragement" ), 37 sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles' feet.

Christ made that statement because most rich people then (and even now) find it difficult to spend quality time with God. If its not one business program, its a contract...they keep telling God I'm busy...maybe next time...but as a christian, you should put God first.

Being a christian means giving God the green light to run your life. So when you eventually become rich as a result of your hardwork, you won't begin to develop a nonchalant attitude towards him. You won't see serving him as a waste of valuable time, cos you would be so addicted to him.
3. Can you quote the Bible verse that says that people were fighting for Jesus' robe after his death?
And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots to see what each would get.
FamilyRe: Coming Home Late Hour At Night! by CrazyMan(m): 2:47pm On Sep 09, 2012
Her attitude shows clearly the type of foundation their home is built on...if their home was built on trust as it should be, then she won't jump into childish conclusions by throwing unconfirmed accusations at him.

Finall I would conclude by seconding chaircover's statement below...

chaircover: It almost always takes 2 to have an argument. If the wife shunned him on his return, he could have been the bigger person and tenderly explained to his wife what caused his lateness. he would have turned the tables on her and she will even be the one begging him for her hasty actions.
Please quote the post where I said that.
Here is it below...note the past tense used.
so I would basically be avoiding the same things in that respect to what you mentioned, if I was a Christian.
Cheers.
I actually taught you would use "if I'm a christian". But never mind, I wouldn't want an argument on that really...I just want you to understand the basics of christianity before entering; so that when you eventually become one, your mind won't be filled with them say theory, which can make you opt out as a result of your disappointment.

Also if you still have further questions, feel free to share them.

Cheers.
I understand better now. However, these are things that Muslims are supposed to avoid and so I would basically be avoiding the same things in that respect to what you mentioned, if I was a Christian.
Cheers.
You now see that christianity isn't as complicated as it seems...because you have the bible to guide every mile of the way.

The bolded word...are you already planing to give up your pursuit of christianity? Thought you said earlier that you want to become a christian?
Christianity EtcRe: * by CrazyMan(m):
What things? Money? Sëx? Position?

I really wish you'd shed the paranoia. I don't know specifically what things of the world you are talking about, do you mean that I shouldn't pursue anything worldly at all?
Galatians 5:19-21.  The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

That's what christ wants you to deny, if you choose to follow him.

You should know that christianity isn't slavery as most people think...you can aspire for top positions, become a billionaire, ride flashy cars, live in exotic houses etc...

The reason why people see christianity as punishment is because they lack proper understanding of the scriptures, and they also have evil intentions towards life.

If I may ask, is it difficult to acquire a B.sc, get a good job, hustle for genuine contracts, and live comfortable when your plans succeed?

When you begin reaping the fruit of your labour, does your exotic and luxury lifestyle sound like sin to you?

What christ is simply telling us is that though we're in the world, we shouldn't be like the world. Work hard and make genuine money, then spend it responsibly...that's all.
@bold, I don't think something like religion should be undertaken for such a simple reason. I mean its the worship of God we are talking about here.
I'm not much grounded in islam so it would be useless trying to compare it with christianity...I might end up confusing us both.
Ok, so wealth shouldn't be regarded as a thing of the world then.
I never said that...Wealth becomes a thing of the world when you acquire it illegally.
Thank you Crazyman, for your replies.
You're welcomed.

Jenwitemi: With a dirty slap in the glare of the public? You don't see anything wrong with that? In any civilized country, pastor Adeboye would be facing a huge pay out to the girl right now.
Actually its Oyedepo not Adeboye...and I agree with you, Nigeria is truly a lawless society otherwise is see no reason why Oyedepo should still be allowed to conduct services...he ought to pay for his actions.
Christianity EtcRe: This Is Classic. It Speaks To Me. Does It Speak To You? by CrazyMan(m): 7:41am On Sep 09, 2012
"Why should a country with so many churches, so many mosques, where the majority is ostentatiously religious, be so corrupt, so lawless? I was once corrupt. But when spirituality came, all passion for corruption, for lawlessness melted away. I naively assumed all religious people are spiritual. But alas! What majority does is just to repeat some religious beliefs without allowing the words to transform them. Corruption continues. Lawlessness permeates. And righteousness is relegated to oblivion. Some even have the audacity to proclaim that, because Jesus had died for their sins, they are no longer under the law but under grace. Yet our country continues to decay, about to disintegrate."
The truth is that most people translate religion into different interpretations.

Nigeria has over 126 different languages, spoken by different tribes and cultures.

Now to the issue of religion. Nigeria is a highly religious country, true. But do you know how many different doctrines and believes exist in the two major religions in the country?

Most people bring their culture and traditional practice into their religion, practices which includes sacrifice, killing, use of charms, amulets etc. Most people who claim to be very religious still frequent their local herbalists for protection, request etc.

Also, I've watched documentaries where pastors and immams have been caught severally with one kind of scandal or the other.

Scandals ranging from robbery, to kidnapping, rituals, r a p e, fraud etc. This doesn't mean that such religions are evil, but it simply means that most of the leaders are simply greedy, and possibly with very little knowledge of what they claim to believe, they simply go into religious practices for their selfish desires, making religion very dangerous for the common man out there to get himself involved with.

But if you take your time to inquire more, you would know that there are still genuine ones out there who strive hard to ensure that the name Religion doesn't get drowned in the mud...those are the true worshipers.
Christianity EtcRe: * by CrazyMan(m):
Please what does 'deny yourself' and 'take up your cross' mean? Does it connote hardship of some kind?
Not necessarily hardship...denying yourself means to forsake the things of the world.

I don't need to begin to explain the things of the world here, cos I believe you know them.
Secondly, you are saying that I must be fully convinced to be a Christian before I become one, for me to be fully convinced, I have to understand what improvements the religion will make in my life, how it will help me in ways Islam failed me.
I would recommend that you read your scriptures...like I stated earlier, I'm not in the mood for a debating session about islam.

If you must come to christianity, come because you feel the urge to try something new. And not because you feel its better than islam.
Thirdly, you say that if I am going in for benefits then I would be disappointed. I take it you mean that there are absolutely no earthly benefits to my becoming a Christian. . . . . . I see.
Thank you for your input.
That's not true...I don't believe that poverty can be likened to christianity because Jesus wasn't poor. He had a personal treasurer (Judas). Even during his death, his garment was so expensive that his killers had to gamble for it.

So if your master wasn't poor, then you have no reason to suffer.

Christianity EtcRe: Confirm Comforter As Holy Spirit, Oh Fr0sbel, Olaadegbu, Aletheia, Bukatyne, Etc by CrazyMan(m): 11:25pm On Sep 08, 2012
To be honest, I couldn't quite comprehend your question...but I would give you favorable answers about the holy spirit.

Luke 3:21-22. When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased."[b/]

From this verse, we can see that the symbol which was used to represent the holy spirit is a dove.

A dove can be defined as a pure white member of the family of Columbidae species...its used as a symbol of innocence, gentleness, tenderness, and peace. So allow me to say that the holy spirit is a being of peace.

He appeared before and after christs mission on earth...this shows he was with christ all through the way. Guiding him and providing him comfort in troubled times.

Now to your question...

Sweetnecta: @Frosbel, Olaadegbu, Aletheia, Bukatyne, Tiarabubu, etc: There are many threads about Another Comforter/Holy Spirit. Each has not brougt the christians to a consensus in the same form as Jesus being a prophet, for example. Now is your chance to clear the air. So tell us the truth

By just showing us how the Holy Spirit, without bodily form to identify "him" and mouth to "speak" with was able to accomplish the duties of "the teacher, corrector, etc" of the another comforter to man. The duties consist of first "hearing from God", then "speaking to believers of Jesus; his disciples". The above will correct mistake/wrong, lead to all truth, teach new things, convict the world of sins, etc, proclaim Jesus by praising him. None of these can be done without being able to speak in audible voice. Or is? Please tell us how and why would Jesus say he will hear and speak, if not a voice speech?
Acts 2:1-4.  When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

This passage tells us that the holy spirit isn't a human, but a gentle and tender spirit. He controls your body once he's in it thereby making it easier for you to relate with God. His presence in the life of a christian is mainly for guidance in your christian journey...

Joel 2:28  "And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.

This passage also talks about the holy spirit, which God himself promised to send to his children...I believe its a fulfillment of Acts 2...because God stated the characteristics of the holy spirit, which includes him making you do things you possibly can't do on a normal day...he gives insight, knowledge and makes you special to people regardless of your background...see the passage below.

Acts 4:13. When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

Sweetnecta: The verse in the Gospel of John is clear enough, stating Jesus said the Another Comforter was to hear from God and speak to man, only whatever he hears, without adding or removing from it. I wanna know how did this Holy Spirit God heard from God after hearing spoke to men.
My people perish for lack of knowledge...

John 14:16-18  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

He work is to guide you just as he guided Jesus during his mission on earth. As for the hearing part, I won't rule out that totally, because its said in the bible that he searches the mind of God to revael deep secrets.

But if you look it his job careful, its all about guidance.
Please I would like to hear something else other than 'because you will burn in hell if you die a Muslim'. I just want to know what benefits I stand to gain in this life if I decided to abandon Islam and become a Christian.
What makes Christianity more rewarding to me than Islam?
Thanks.
I'm not in the mood to begin a debating session beteeen christianity and islam.

Matthew 16:24. Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.

I you're not fully convinced on why you should become a christian, then remain where you are...christianity is mainly about service and sacrifice.

Therefore, if you're going into it for benefits, I'm afraid to tell you that you'll be disappointed.

I can't speak much on islam...maybe the islam brethren in the house can enlighten you more on the benefits of islam.

manmustwac: But how did God manage to create himself without no formal education? How did he learn how to count? Right from wrong? About all the animals he supposedly created?
God is a spirit...he's existence remains a mistery even to bible scholars.

Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.'"

From this passage, its obvious that his existence cannot be fathomed...if he wanted us to know about his existence, he would have left possible clues in the bible for determined scholars to discover.
