The simple reason the president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, has three Nigerians in his would-be cabinet is because the latter's citizens abroad are hardworking, Geoffrey Onyeama, has said.

Onyeama, who is the foreign affairs minister in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, says the appointment of the three Nigerians negates the views of some people about citizens of the West African country who are in the diaspora.

Legit.ng recently listed Osaremen Okolo, Adewale Adeyemo and Funmi Badejo as the three Nigerians appointed into the next administration after Donald Trump, who was defeated in an election held weeks ago.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Faction Asks Court Restrain Obiozor From Parading Self As President.

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has asked a High Court sitting in Bwari Abuja to restrain Professor George Obiozor, who was elected by the Nnia Nwodo-led Ohanaeze from parading himself as the President General or be sent to jail.

Obiozor, a former Nigerian ambassador to the United States, Israel and Cyprus, was on January 10 declared President of the group after an election held at Dan Anyim Stadium in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

However, in a motion on notice number FCT/HC/BIU/M/14/21 brought against him and the incorporated trustees of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the applicants sought an order restraining the professor and his proxies or any other parading himself pending the determination of the substantive suit.

“An order of this honourable court restraining the defendants, its agent servants from further holding or summoning any meeting whatsoever of Ohanaeze Ndigbo without consultation with the Secretary General as the constitution demands.

“An order of this honourable court restraining Professor George Obiozor from parading himself as the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, being a product of an illegal election in Owerri on the 10th day of January, 2021,” part of the notice read.

Similarly, in an originating summons, the Uche Okwukwu faction is asking for the interpretations of articles 10, 11, 14 and 21 of Constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, brought pursuant to order 2 Rules 1, 3 and 4 of the Federal High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (Civil Procedure) Rules 2018 and section 6(6B) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The matter comes up on Thursday, 21st January, 2021.

BusinessFire Guts Multi-million Naira Motorcycle Manufacturing Factory In Nnewi by Ctorch(op):
It was a tragic experience as Fire Saturday night gutted Louis Carter Industries Nigeria Limited, a multi-million naira motorcycle spare parts and allied products manufacturing company factory, based in Akaboukwu Uruagu Nnewi, Anambra State.

The company, owned by Nnewi industrialist and businessman, Chief Louis Onwugbenu, manufactures the Louis Carter brand of motorcycles, which is widely used in the South-eastern part of Nigeria and the South-south.

The fire outbreak, a company source said, started 10:00pm on Saturday, and raged for about six hours despite attempts by men of the Anambra State fire service to put it out.

It was gathered that the fire defied all the fire extinguishing machines in the company. Even the men of the fire service department who were said to have arrived one hour and 30 minutes after the fire had started, could not extinguish it.

The General Manager of the company, Mr Ndubisi Okoli, said the company’s security men alerted him of the fire Saturday night.

“The security men said the magnitude of the fire could not be put out with fire extinguishers at the factory, and that they had called the fire fighters’ emergency number, which led to the arrival of the men of the department.

The fire was caused by Enugu Electricity Distribution Company’s (EEDC) high tension cable that exploded and sparked off fire into the section of the factory which stores our raw materials.

“The raw materials and crushing machines worth over N500 million was completely razed down, just as the building was completely burnt too, but no life was lost,” Okoli said.

Also reacting, the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer of Louis Carter Group of Companies, Chief Onwugbenu, said the fire incident had caused a huge loss to the company that had hundreds of workers in its employ.

Onwugbenu acknowledged the effort of Chief Innocent Chukwuma, Chairman of the Innoson Group, and member representing Nnewi North in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Nonso Smart, who he said were physically present to motivate the fight against the fire.

Onwugbenu said it would cause him huge amount of money to rebuild the factory, adding that he was uncomfortable about the number of workers that had been thrown out of job because of the fire outbreak.

PoliticsLagos Belongs To Benin - Obanikoro's Grandson Declares by Ctorch(op): 7:43pm On Jan 15, 2021
Lagos belongs to Benin - Obanikoro's grandson declares, reveals why its monarchs never wore crowns.

The grandson of the eighth Obanikoro of Lagos has spoken on the issue surrounding the ownership of the state

- Engineer Layiwola Ajayi-Bembe said Lagos truly belongs to the people of Benin

- According to the octogenarian, it was agreed at a meeting in 1903 that Obas in Lagos should not wear crowns.

An octogenarian and grandson of the eighth Obanikoro of Lagos, Engineer Layiwola Ajayi-Bembe, has given a deeper insight into the history of Lagos and its relationship with Benin.

Layiwola also said that Obas in Lagos were historically referred to as 'Elekos' and did not wear crowns.

Speaking with Legit.ng's correspondent, Adeoye Adewunmi, in an exclusive telephone interview, Layiwola, who is the chairman of County and City Bricks, disabused the minds of people who believe that Lagos is 'no man’s land'.

Ajayi-Bembe explained that the decision of the Obas in Lagos not to wear crowns was resolved at a royal meeting held in 1903.

He further explained that Lagos belongs to the Bini (Benin) and not the Yorubas as it is misconstrued, adding that there are still relics of Benin all over Isale Eko.

The chairman, whose mother was the first child of Gbajabiamila (of Olowogbowo fame), identified Idumota, Iduntafa, Idunmagbo and Idunganran as Bini names.

He said:

“Obas (in Lagos) - we don’t call them ‘obas’, we call them ‘eleko’ and they don’t wear crown.

“My grandfather was at a royal meeting in 1903 when there was a dispute of which traditional rulers should wear crowns.

Ooni of Ife had to come all the way from Ife to Lagos upon the invitation of Governor (John Hawley) Glover.
“And the question they asked him (Ooni) was: ‘Who are the Obas that should wear crowns?’ He mentioned them – Lagos was not part of the list. We don’t wear crowns in Lagos.
“Lagos is Bini, not only because we came from Benin. There are signs and relics of Benin all over Isale Eko.

Enuowa is in Lagos; Idumota is a Bini name; Iduntafa is Bini name; Idunmagbo is Bini name; Iduganran is Bini name; tell me, what further proof do you want (that the Bini own Lagos)?”

PoliticsCAN To Manage Ohanaeze For 2 Months, Organise Election by Ctorch(op): 7:12pm On Jan 10, 2021
The President, Christian Association of Igbo Ministers, Solomon Okorie, on Saturday, confirmed that Ohanaeze leadership would be handed over to the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, South-East Zone, for two months within which they would organise the election of new leadership.

Okorie, in a chat with newsmen in Owerri, said it was part of the resolution by the concerned Ime-Obi members at a virtual meeting on Thursday, that the Chief Nnia Nwodo-led Sunday’s election be put on hold for mostly violating the constitutional provisions of Ohanaeze election.
This came after Vanguard had reported that one of the Ohanaeze President-General aspirants,
Chidi Osuagwu, dropped from the race , citing the same resolutions by Ime-Obi as one of his reasons.

Okorie said: “In Igboland, the way it is done is that the people are allowed to choose their leaders. The way things are going regarding the election is very bad.
“That is why the Ime-Obi, elders gathered and asked the Ohanaeze President, Chief Nnia Nwodo, to handover to CAN, Southeast zone, for two months. Within these two months, CAN will organise an election a credible one for Ohanaeze.
“We don’t want imposition in Ohanaeze. Just imagine; in 2023 we will be clamouring for Igbo presidency. At that time what are we going to be saying again?
“We need to get things right now, to put the Igbo nation forward,” Okorie said.

PoliticsI’ll Build 100 Industries In My First 100 Days As Delta Gov — Gbagi by Ctorch(op): 6:08pm On Jan 10, 2021
Delta State Governorship aspirant in the forthcoming 2023 election, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, Sunday, said he would establish 100 industries in his first 100 days in office if elected Governor.

Gbagi who stated this in Asaba during a Townhall meeting with Aniocha/ Oshimili stakeholders said Deltans should call him to question if he fails to build 100 industries in 100 days in office as Governor.
He held that he has all it takes to transform the State, insisting that he was the most qualified to Govern the State after Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, urging Deltans to choose a Governor who could take the state from one point to another.
He said he was the most qualified person to be Governor in 2023 in the present Peoples Democratic Party, PDP family in Delta, saying he has his signatures everywhere across the country and beyond, holding that the state would never remain in darkness again.

While vowing to contest and win the 2023 election, he said it was the turn of Delta Central to produce the next Governors. He told the people how he established 13 Federal universities, Colleges of Education, Polytechnics, Girl-Child School and Almajiri schools in about one year as a Minister.
Disclosing that he started life with N4, 800, he said he could account for every kobo he has. He warned the people against giving power to people with criminal records.

Gbagi who was accompanied by his wife promised not to develop one part of the state to the detriment of other parts. He maintained that one senatorial district could not do it alone.
Frowning at a situation where people sell their birthrights for porridge, he told the people of the role he played for the emergence of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as Governor in 2015. He said he was also supportive of Delta North doing their two terms like other senatorial districts.

PoliticsSeven Feared Killed In Fresh Clash Between Herders, Amotekun Operatives In Oyo by Ctorch(op):

This came just three days after a similar clash happened at Tapa.
Though, a source in the area claimed seven people have been killed while some houses were razed at Okebi Village, the leadership of Fulani herders in the state confirmed that three of its men were killed.

According to the source, “one man and his two sons were killed. We don’t know what caused the fight. Some persons were shot and injured.

PoliticsKukah’s Message’s Poisoned Arrow Fired At Islam, Muslims— JNI by Ctorch(op): 8:37pm On Jan 06, 2021
Apex Muslim organization in Nigeria, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), has taken a swipe at Bishop Kukah’s Christmas homily, describing it as a poisoned arrow fired at the heart of Islam and Muslims in Nigeria.

The JNI, in a statement signed by Dr. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, Secretary-General, and issued to journalists in Kaduna on Wednesday, said its attention was drawn to ” an irresponsible and seditious Christmas message issued by the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah.
“Though the message is disguised as political hogwash to deceive the innocent, there is no doubt that it was a poisoned arrow fired at the heart of Islam and Muslims in Nigeria, hence the need for this intervention.”

The Muslim organization said the Bishop’s statement was a prepared address considering the occasion and the audience, “one cannot but agree that it was a calculated attempt to insult Islam which is typical of him.
His veiled insinuation that Muslims have a pool of violence to draw from, is disgusting, disheartening, as well as condemnable.”

JNI argued that responsibly, Christmas homilies should come with messages of hope, unity, mercy, the forgiveness of the Supreme Being, and resilience through prayers, especially in this trying time.

” The Bishop’s message was however a clear deviation from the well-established norm across the globe. Kukah is the Bishop of the Sokoto diocese located at the seat of the Caliphate and the heart of Islam and Islamic scholarship, culture, and practices in sub-Saharan Africa. Despite the status of Sokoto to the Muslims and Islamic history, Bishop Kukah was warmly welcomed, accepted, accommodated, and accorded respect deserving of his position as a religious leader.”
“Across the length and breadth of Northern Nigeria, Kukah has friends and associates among the Muslim society. Without fear of any contradiction, he is most accepted and accommodated Christian clergy to the leaders of the Muslims in the north.

“They accorded him all the support he needed, despite some reservations from some quarters about his tendencies to bite the fingers that feed him.”
“Despite the liberality, congeniality, and the camaraderie extended to Bishop Kukah in Sokoto and all over the Muslim north, he throws all sense of decorum and common sense to the wind and fired invective, salvos on the Muslims and Islam without any justification.
“By this and his several similar inane attacks against Islam and the Muslims, the Bishop has lost the friendship and the hospitality of the entire Muslim populace.”

How can the Muslims ever trust a man who smiles at their faces in the day and hold dagger against them in the night? How can the Muslims continue to be hospitable to the one who proves to be ingrate many times over? How can the Muslims be comfortable in associating with a bitterly vindictive person disguised in the garb of religious clergy?”
JNI said Muslims in Nigeria cannot be charged and be held responsible or accountable for the actions or inactions of the Government just because it is headed by a Muslim.

The Bishop cannot pretend to be attacking President Buhari and end up punching Islam and the Muslims. We will never accept to be used as a punching bag of the vindictive Bishop.”
“It is mind-boggling to imagine why Bishop Kukah is always keen on pushing at the National fault lines; religion, tribe, and north-south divide? His fiery and equally violent inciting speech at the burial of the late Governor Yakowa of Kaduna State is still fresh in our memories. That speech which was aimed at electrifying the atmosphere drew the eerie of many reasonable Nigerians across religious and regional divides. The late Abubakar Gimba of blessed memory wrote thus:”
*However, the atmospherics of his speech at Yakowa’s burial sounded differently. The many references to religious bigots, dubious religious manipulations, members of the nefarious Mafia whose selfishness hindered the development of Kaduna State in particular and the North in general, one of the worst shows of selfishness by an unproductive and selfish cabal who have deployed religion to hide their goal, and those who have projected Islam as a basis for power, created the condition that now threatens the foundation of our society, are all tailored for, and directly targeted at Muslims, to make them fit for the gallows of culpability, and painting them as unquestionable candidates for the hangman’s noose.”
“In my great respect for the Bishop, I still do not believe he would come down from his episcopal ladder to the level of the young dentist of India. Yet, I see this erudite clergyman, whose wisdom I admire, in a double attire: beneath the adornment of his clericals.”
“The above depicted the Bishop as a person with the habit of inciting violence, an action that is clearly against his calling as Priest as his fellow Christian Dr. Uche Diala puts it in his article:”
“The Priest, especially the Catholic Priest and indeed the High Priest as the Bishop represents is an eternal conciliator and reconciliation. A messenger of peace. His words must always portray to engender love, peace, forgiveness, reconciliation, and unity. The Priest must always be seen to be on the side of the truth, never to take sides, except to side the downtrodden, weak, and helpless. He must speak truth to power just like Christ did… but must not play to the gallery or be tempted to become populist.”
“Bishop Kukah should not take Muslims kindness for timidity or foolishness. In being accommodative and kind, the Muslims are adhering to the teaching of the Glorious Quran that even in times of war the Muslims should offer assistance to those who seek their protection. Quran chapter 9 verse 6 is categorical on this:”
“And if one of the Mushrikun (disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah) seeks your protection, then grant him protection so that he may hear the Word of Allah (the Quran), and then escort him to where he can be secure, that is because they are men who know not. Quran 9:6.”

According to JNI, “the Muslims kind nature should not be taken for granted, because our Prophet (Peace be upon him) has warned that a Muslim should not allow himself to be ridiculed where he said believer should not be stung twice in the same hole {Hadith}.”
“Kukah and his likes who enjoys the pleasure of denigrating Islam and Muslims at any slightest opportunity should have lowered their gourd, to have some peace of mind because the spark which Islam kindles can never be extinguished. Authorities more ferocious, more organized, and more persistent than Kukah, have all tried to denigrate Islam but alas Islam and Muslims have remained consistently triumphant – Alhamdulillah.”
“Vituperations such as Kukah’s is what is making Islam waxing stronger globally, that today it is the fastest-growing religion, the world over. Can’t the Kukah and his cohorts ponder over this? Can’t they see that despite ganging, blackmailing, stigmatization, and excessive campaign of calumny against Islam, the religion is making waves into areas where other ideologies and beliefs are rejected?”
“To this end, we call on all Muslims to continue to remain calm in the face of these provocations to deny conflict entrepreneurs disguised as clergies the avenue to market their stock. Muslims are enjoined to continuously uphold the teachings of Islam, especially in regards to accommodativeness, conviviality, and hospitality. Let’s continue to relate well with our peace-loving Christian neighbors and colleagues regardless of the vituperations of some misguided elements among them.”
“We beseech Allah to protect us, secure our environments and make peace to reign and radiate right from our hearts till it encompasses all aspects of our lives and our societies,” JNI said.

PoliticsKwara State Government Sacks 2,414 Teachers Employed By Former Governor by Ctorch(op): 12:26pm On Dec 26, 2020
The Kwara state government has faulted the employment of 2,414 teachers

- The state’s ministry of education explains why the employees were not qualified to teach

- The government disclosed what it is doing to address the employment misnomer.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara state has nullified the employment of 2,414 teachers who were employed by the state universal basic education board (KWSUBEB).

The state government in a statement through its ministry of education said the action was taken because the teachers were employed illegally at the end of the administration of a former governor, AbdulFatah Ahmed, The Nation reported.

The government said:

“A total number of 2,414 SUBEB teachers were engaged in the twilight of the past administration. They are otherwise called sunset workers.
“This figure is a violent contravention of the executive approval by former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed who had authorised the employment of 1,100 qualified teachers to take English Language, Mathematics, and Science subjects only."
The ministry of education explained that it also discovered that the majority of the teachers were not qualified to teach because they lacked the required teaching certificates.

According to The Punch, the government stated that the discovery prompted it to start the employment processes afresh in 2021.

The ministry said:

"The government will open a new application portal for all the 2,414 and any other eligible persons to apply for SUBEB teaching jobs in relevant subjects to be advertised. This effectively nullifies the controversial employment process of 2018/2019.

“This new process will be largely technology-driven, and needs-based, while every applicant will go through rigorous screenings.’’

"When we were in the 2014 National conference, that was why some of them went and take money from President Goodluck Jonathan and said that he should make derivation 25 percent. I asked, if you make derivation 25 percent, how does that save we Yorubas that have no oil? When my children will come and read in history that I was part of the people that said derivation should go to Ijaw people?".

Senator Anthony Adefuye

Speaking with our correspondent on Thursday, Adefuye said he parted ways with Afenifere leaders because they are not honest people.
Adefuye who accused them of cheating the late Funso Williams also added that Afenifere leaders are embittered against him for supporting Obasanjo in the 1999 presidential election.
He said "Odumakin is a man who talks for what he will get from what he says. He knows no facts. The only sin I committed against Afenifere was that I supported Obasanjo during the 1999 presidential election".

"At that time, they also cheated late Funsho Williams and so I decided not to work with them. I have just been keeping quiet not because we don't know them. We know them very well. The problems they are facing now, they caused it themselves".

PoliticsChief Obasanjo Is A Yoruba Man, Afenifere Counter Adefuye by Ctorch(op): 1:48pm On Dec 24, 2020
(APC), Senator Anthony Adefuye, has said it is the turn of the South-West to produce the President of Nigeria in 2023.

He said the region had yet to do so since the return of democratic governance to the country in 1999.

According to INDEPENDENT, Adefuye said those clamouring for the presidency to go to the South-East were wrong as the region produced former President Olusegun Obasanjo who was in power from 1999 to 2007.

The APC chieftain alleged that Obasanjo is an Igbo man and that his father hailed from Anambra State while his mother was a Yoruba woman.

He said, “I believe that in 2023, the APC will zone the Presidential ticket to the South. When it comes to the South, then it will be narrowed down to the South-West because that is the only region that has not produced the President since 1999. It has always been (between) the North and the Igbo.

“Some people may argue that what about Obasanjo? Obasanjo is not a Yoruba man. He is an Igbo man from the South-East. His father was from Anambra while his mother was a Yoruba woman. And that was why during his tenure, he completely ignored the South-West. For example, throughout his eight years, he did nothing on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

“But he did a lot for his people in the South-East. He picked five ministers from there and even appointed the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from Anambra, where his father came from.

“So, it is right for the South-West to demand for the Presidency in 2023. What we should be doing now is to work towards 2023 to ensure that the Presidency comes to the South-West. The South-West has never produced the President before.”

However, the National Publicity Secretary of the apex Yoruba Socio-Cultural Organization, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, has dismissed speculations that the former President was not a Yoruba man.

He also criticised Yoruba sons whom he accused of trying to join others to denigrate the heritage of the former President in a bid to advance their political interests.

According to Punch, the Afenifere spokesman was responding to claims by a former Lagos Senator, Anthony Adefuye, that the former Nigerian leader was an Igbo man born by a Yoruba woman.

Odumakin noted that it was absurd for anyone to seek to deny the Yoruba ancestry of the former President.

Odumakin said, “That was a twisted and perverted logic. The South-West produced Nigeria’s president in the person of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo for eight years 1999-2007. If anyone wants to be President, he should go ahead but not use the name of the highly sophisticated Yoruba race to push through a perverted logic to try to sell his candidacy. Chief Obasanjo is a Yoruba man.

PoliticsPresident Muhammadu Buhari Has Felicitated With The Wife of Rotimi Amaechi At 50 by Ctorch(op): 8:51pm On Dec 23, 2020
President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated with the wife of the Minister of Transportation, Dame Judith Amaechi, as she turns 50 on December 24, 2020.
The President in a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, lauded Judith for being a strong pillar of support to her husband, who has variously been a two-term Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of same State, Chairman, Governors Forum, and now two-term Minister of Transportation.
President Buhari submits that without the robust domestic support provided by Dame Judith, the Amaechi persona may not have loomed as large as it does today on the nation’s political landscape.
