PoliticsEnd SARS Is A Failed Biafra Movement, Says Adamu Garba by Ctorch(op): 4:09pm On Dec 14, 2020
Former Presidential aspirant in the 2019 general elections, Adamu Garba on Sunday, said the End SARS movement is now a failed Biafra call for secession supported by gullible Nigerians.

He stated this after calling out President Muhammadu Buhari over the rising cases of insecurity in the north, following the kidnap of some school students in Katsina.

According to Garba, End SARS has been hijacked by haters of Nigeria with the aim of seeking the destruction of the country.

In his words;

”When I spoke against the insecurity situation affecting the country & called out the President, some people tried to compare it with #endSARs, not true!

#endSARs is now an official failed Biafra movement supported by gullible ones. We know it.

”The original #endSARs is gone.

Take this from me. #endSARs is hijacked by the haters of Nigeria, with a principal mission to hate everything everyone except a movement to destroy Nigeria & create an unimaginably failed audio/internet country, by people who never knew where their village is

]”These guys, less than one percent of the Igbo population are doing everything to showcase the whole Igbo as supportive of their mission, so loud that you’ll seem to believe them.

It’s a scam!

”The 99% real Igbo is good and Pan Nigerians.

They’ve spoiled our #endSARs with hate.

]”The real #endSARs team, me inclusive have a whole lot of work to do to filter #endSARs away from Biafra guys. Else, we have to accept & leave it as a high jacked movement by Biafra warlord, working against Nigeria & Nigerian citizen as a whole.

It is important we get this clear!
Note that from now onwards, until the recommended deep filtering is done to critically separate #endSARs from biafra. Whatever you do for #endSARs, you are knowingly or unknowingly advancing the movement of Biafra whose aim is to consume us all, not just the North.

Mark this!”

When I spoke against the insecurity situation affecting the country & called out the President, some people tried to compare it with #endSARs, not true!#endSARs is now an official failed Biafra movement supported by gullible ones. We know it.

The original #endSARs is gone.

PoliticsMoney From America Makes Kids In Ogun Happy As They Get New Bicycles by Ctorch(op): 2:50pm On Dec 10, 2020
Some school children resident in Ore Akinde village have got help and their days of six hours trek is finally over

- With the help of Yetunde Adeseluka-Oladejo and Bilqis Williams, they now have new bicycles to help cover the distance between home and school

- Before the comfort came, the children were always on the road as early as 5:30 am to make school early

A Nigerian woman, Yetunde Adeseluka-Oladejo, has shone a light on the ordeal of some poor school children of Ore Akinde village in Ogun state.

Yetunde said that the children always had to endure the arduous task of trekking for six hours every day to their secondary school.

Days after posting about the kids’ hard life on her LinkedIn, another kind woman, Bilqis Williams reached out to know how they could help the children.

Presented with the options of tricycles or bicycles, the village went for the latter because of bad roads and the low maintenance of two wheels.

Yetunde said the bicycles were bought by funds sent all the way from America by Bilqis, adding that the children were so happy to receive the gifts.

Below were some of the reactions the act of goodwill got:

Njideka Sanya said:

"Wow! Well done Yetunde Adeseluka-Oladejo, MPH, doing this provides something that is not as common as it should be, which is an acceptable, effective, and quick win/solution. They do need a school nearby, but building a school is a long term project, especially in our system..."
Adekunle Adeleye said:

"God bless you Yetunde. You have removed the biggest obstacle on their paths to a brighter future for these students. I’m sure some kids in this community would have been convinced to embrace farming. Of course, if you could get to the farm in 15 minutes, why spend 6 hours to get to school?"
Kaothar Ajani: Story of a 16-year-old orphan girl who fends for herself, siblings by riding tricycle
Sammy Prestige said:

"That is the way I walked when I was in secondary school in my village ipari nla, ijebu north east Ogun state for good 6yrs, but I wish one day, I could do something better to help those that are still trekking to this same school from my village. God bless you Yetunde Adeseluka-Oladejo, MPH for the good heart."

PoliticsBenue Rep, Herman Hembe. Dumps APGA For APC by Ctorch(op): 1:58pm On Dec 08, 2020
The rank of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives increased swelled on Tuesday as Hon. Herman Hembe announced his defection from the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) to the APC.

However, Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu described the defection as illegal and asked the Speaker to declare the seat of the Benue Lawmaker vacant.

In a letter to the Speaker, read on the floor of the House by Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, Hembe said he joined the APC from his ward in August and has since been actively involved in the activities of the governing party.

He expressed appreciation to the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the APC, Mai Mala Buni, former Governor of Benue state, Senator George Akume, and former Speaker, Yakubu Dogara for making his defection possible.

While opposing the defection, Elumelu said “by the grace of God, I am the Minority Leader of this House. I am not aware that there is a crisis in APGA and so, what he has done is illegal and the Speaker should declare his seat vacant. We are going to contest this.”

In his ruling, Deputy Speaker who presided over the plenary said the fact that Elumelu is not aware of any crisis in APGA is not enough to say there was no crisis in the party.

He said the crisis in APGA in Anambra state which is the base of the party is enough reason for anybody to defect.

PoliticsWe Never Endorsed Tinubu For 2023- Kano Islamic Clerics by Ctorch(op): 7:25am On Dec 08, 2020
KANO ISLAMIC LEADERS DENY ENDORSING BOLA TINUBU FOR 2023 PRESIDENTIAL TICKET.

Kano State Council of Ulamas has slammed reports that the Islamic body has endorsed Bola Tinubu for the 2023 presidential ticket. This disclaimer was issued in a statement by the state chairman, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, in Kano on Sunday, December 6; during an interview with newsmen. Khalil who expressed surprise over media reports said the story is not true; as the body has diverse political inclinations and also views, saying, they couldn’t have made the endorsement. “Bola Tinubu was in Kano to attend wedding Fatiha of Sheikh Muhammad Bn Usman’s daughter, a political gathering at Mambayya House by Buhari Supporters group; and to reciprocate the visit of some Muslim groups across Nigeria that visited him and the Oba of Lagos; after the #EndSARS protest in Lagos over the loss of lives and properties. “Some Muslim organisations including clerics from Kano visited Bola Tinubu and Oba of Lagos; after the EndSARS protests in Lagos where he was commended for the support he accorded Buhari; that led to his emergence in the 2015 general elections. “I am so overwhelmed with this visit as I never expected it; hopefully, I am going to return the visit.’ Khalil added, “He was subsequently notified about the wedding of Sheikh Muhammad ibn Usman’s daughter which he promised to attend. “Hence during the visit, Tinubu expressed willingness to visit the Ulamas; which was practically impossible for him to go from house to house. “There and then some of the clerics that were part of the visit to Lagos were assembled; and Tinubu came with governor Abdullahi Ganduje. “It was one of the clerics, Shehi Shehi who lauded Tinubu for the support he gave Buhari in 2015 which led to his electoral victory. He said we would always appreciate you and return your gesture. “So, it is funny for the media to now report that Ulamas in Kano endorsed Tinubu; some of the Ulamas are not even in support of APC, while some even in APC have their solidarity for others.

PoliticsWhy I Campaigned For Buhari In 2019 —umahi by Ctorch(op): 9:28pm On Dec 07, 2020
Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has admitted supporting the President, Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), during the 2019 general election, even as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Umahi said this at the foundation laying ceremony of a housing project in his hometown – Uburu – on Monday.

The governor said that his former party should not waste time in accusing him of giving the president 25 per cent of votes during the election.

“I preached it in the entire southeast zone of the country, that the person who supports us is whom we will support.

“I joined the APC for the president’s love for Ebonyi even if for no other reason.

“My eyes are on the ball–on what will get to my people,” he said.

Umahi said he plans to submit a proposal for a channelisation work which will cut across the housing project, expressing confidence that the president will approve it.

“You know I am his son, so you can be sure that I will get the approval.

You can say anything you want to say but the president loves me and I love him also.

“I do not know how this love happened, but you should realise that grace is always upon the house of David,” he said.

Umahi said he has barred all his appointees and supporters from reacting to verbal attacks from the PDP over his decision to join the APC.

“I am the father of the state and should be ashamed that Ebonyi is heading into bitterness and disunity.

I have decided to forgive all those who wronged me and seek same from those who may have been hurt in this process which I take responsibilities for.

“We should practice the Christianity we profess and this forgiveness has ensured that my blood pressure has dropped to 110/ 20 from 120/ 20,” he said.

The governor, however, said that such gesture should not be mistaken for weakness.

“The people should know that David is a man of war.

God has directed that we stop this fight and we have no regrets being pencils in his hands.

“I thank all those who intervened in this matter such as the Catholic Bishop of Abakalki diocese, the Christian Association of Nigeria, the state Founding Fathers Forum , Ohanaze Ndigbo socio-cultural organisation among others,” he said.

PoliticsWe Thank You Sincerely For Standing With Our Brothers-Northern Elders To Wike by Ctorch(op): 8:26pm On Dec 07, 2020
We Thank You Sincerely For Standing With Our Brothers-Northern Elders To Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has given assurance that he will continue to conduct the affairs of government in a manner that will not undermine the interest of any ethnic group resident in the state.

The governor gave the assurance when he played host to leaders of Northern Elders Forum (NEF) led by its Chairman, Prof. Ango-Abdullahi at Government House Port Harcourt on Monday.
The Northern leaders were in the State to meet with their kith and kin in the aftermath of the EndSARS protest that was hijacked by the proscribed Indigenous People Organisation of Biafra (IPOB) in the state.
Governor Wike, applauded the leaders for the visit to ascertain what actually happened during the EndSARS protest. According to him, it was sad that people will do the wrong and dubiously tie any effort made to correct them to politics and ethnic bias just to deepen the divide among Nigerians.
"The EndSARS protest was very peaceful in Rivers state. Oyigbo Local Government is one of the biggest in terms of population in the state. Miscreants woke up one morning because people are doing EndSARS protest and began to kill innocent people. They burnt down police stations, killed police officers and soldiers and destroyed courts.
"When you say what you're done is wrong, we can't allow it, they say you're against a particular ethnic group. How can that be? That action almost led to a big violence between this group and that group. I am the governor of the state, how can I allow my state to be a centre of war? That can't happen.
"Nobody can sack anybody here. Everybody has the right to live in the state. But no group can say it is their own place. I won't allow that. We also have Rivers people who are living outside. So, I can assure you that I will not do anything that will not be fair to any ethnic group.”

Governor Wike, said he had raised alarm against the danger of insecurity after a cultists killed over one hundred persons on a particular Christmas' eve in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local government of the State. But, regrettably, the Federal Government reduced the issue to politics and today, insecurity is ravaging every state of the federation.
The governor also recalled how FSARS brutality against Rivers People was also ignored. Worst still, he said even the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) issued a report that indicted the FSARS commander in the state, but instead of addressing the issues, the erring officer was rewarded and promoted.
"The primary responsibility of every government is to make sure that life and property are being protected. When that is lost, then there is nothing like governance again.
"But it appears there is leadership pandemic like you said. If truly leadership is serious, if we don't politicise the issue of security, we won't have been where we are today. God has made it possible for us to be part of one country, that means where you come from should not be a factor in order to move this country forward."
Earlier, the Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum, Prof Ango Abdullahi said though they had received complains from their kith and kin of what happened during the EndSARS protest, they decided to visit the South to ascertain the facts.
He explained that based on the forum’s interaction with Northerners living in Rivers state, they seem fairly comfortable and satisfied residing in the State. According to him, the kind of empathy, sympathy and care that Governor Wike has shown as a leader, was worthy of emulation.

“There is no doubt in my mind that this perhaps can be explained by history. The greatest history in terms of political relationship between the people of the North and the Southern part of the country can always been found deeply rooted here in the Niger Delta area.”

We, like on behalf, not only on behalf of Northern Elders Forum, but on behalf of Northern community world over, we thank you very sincerely for what we have heard and indeed what I have seen in terms of what you have been able to do to help ameliorate some of the challenges and difficulties faced by our brothers living here.”

Abdullahi, said if the harmonious coexistence between Rivers people and Northerners living in the State could be replicated all over the country, then, the country will be a peaceable place for all.
“You have a leadership role to play in terms of what the country requires. If you put your heads together, this country will not only survive but it will also thrive. Your excellency from the discussion we have had with our brothers and sisters who live here, and they are almost more yours than ours, is that there is a lot of hope in this country. What is missing is whereas we are having virus pandemic, we are also having leadership pandemic and something has to be done about it.”
other members of the NEF delegation include former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Ghali Umar Na'Abba; former NRC presidential candidate, Bashir Othman Tofa; Hakeem Baba Ahmed; General Saleh Maina (rtd) among others.

PoliticsHow Umahi, Other SE PDP Governors Worked Against Obi VP Race In 2019. by Ctorch(op): 8:21am On Dec 06, 2020
Before Governor Dave Umahi defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, on November 19 2020, the Ebonyi state governor was losing grip of his control of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state, and he was at sea on what to do as the 2023 general elections was drawing nearer.

Umahi had, on assumption of power in 2015 arrogated to his immediate younger brother, Austin Umahi, the office of the National Vice Chairman of PDP for South east and another relation, Maxwell Umahi, as the deputy state chairman of the PDP in Ebonyi state. Imposition of Austin Umahi as the party’s national vice chairman caused pandemonium at the Michael Okpara square Enugu, when Mr. Ali Odefa who had served Governor Umahi for many years and was the zonal publicity secretary of the PDP insisted on a due process election instead of selection of Austin Umahi. Odefa was tamed, cut to size and intimidated into submission and acceptance of the Umahi dynasty in Ebonyi state.

Governor Umahi had henceforth enjoyed lavishly the instruments of the party, PDP, further arming himself with the office of the Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum, SEGF, to become a veritable authority and spokesman of the South East political class.

Umahi has remained Chairman of the South East Governors Forum since 2015 despite having only two years tenure that is not renewable until the position rotates among the federating states of in the forum. Umahi has spent more than six years, denying Enugu and Imo states from exercising the authority that comes with such instrument of power.

It is quite discernible that Umahi loves power and loves to exercise it as it suits him. Under Umahi’s leadership of SEGF, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, was proscribed in 2017. Umahi, using his elder brother, Gen. Obi Umahi (Rtd) as the chairman of SEGF Security committee ensured that the Igbo popular choice of establishing a regional security outfit in the like of Amotekun was frustrated. What the Umahis have been talking about since then is community policing that is amorphous and untenable.

Governor Umahi enjoyed and had his ways till 2019 after the PDP national convention in Port Harcourt, when Atiku nominated Mr. Peter Obi as his presidential running mate. Umahi, among other PDP governors and stakeholders in the south east furiously convened in Senator Ike Ekweremadu’s residence in Enugu and rejected Obi with the excuses that they were not consulted before the nomination.

Subsequently, the PDP governors of the zone went into alliance with the APC; pledged and delivered 25 percent votes to President Muhammadu Buhari in their respective states and since then have secretly maintained alliance with the leading party.

Angered by these developments, Governor Nysome Wike of Rivers state kept the PDP Governors of South East at distance from the party’s national leadership. It was not long before Umahi realised that Wike was not like the South East Governors that he could undermine. Love was lost between the Rivers and Ebonyi Governors but they patched up until the EndSARS Obigbo massacre that made Umahi lead a team of South East leaders to Rivers state.

Inside sources in Abakaliki disclosed that Governor Umahi had postulated that so long as Wike’s hand remains a firm grip and control of the PDP, his future political calculations would be frustrated.
“Umahi’s major headache is producing a successor and he is doubtful of doing that in PDP where Senator Obinna Ogba has a large image and Wike is not his friend. That’s why he decided to move to APC to negotiate power from there,” the source said.

However, Umahi’s defection received some accolades across the south east; with some saying that his defection was a bold statement that the South East would settle for nothing except Presidency in 2023. Umahi is being hailed for leading the south east into a protest against the PDP in the event that it has motives of frustrating Igbo presidency. Umahi’s volt face is also interpreted as a sign to the APC that the zone would collapse into the party if it is magnanimous enough to concede the presidential ticket to the south east.

One of the APC stakeholders in Enugu state, Chief Tony Mba said “What the man (Umahi) did is a sacrifice. He discussed it with some people before making the defection. The APC will have no fear now in giving it to us (South East) if PDP will produce an Igbo candidate. Umahi’s defection is a protest and a good one.”
What has however become an albatross to Umahi’s defection is his present attacks on the political leaders in his state who refused to follow him to APC. Interestingly, Senators Pius Anyim and Sam Egwu were instrumental in wresting power from former Governor Martin Elechi to Dave Umahi in 2015, yet today the duo are villains in Umahi’s estimation.

Ever since the Umahi’s ‘kill Anyim, Egwu campaign’ started, the archives were brought forward where Elechi was quoted to have said in 2016 that he has no apologies for objecting to Umahi as successor.
Elechi had said: “Yes, I made my point clear to him (Umahi) as early as September 2014 that I will not support him because my observation showed me that he lacked certain qualities that we hold dear in governance, the spirit of accommodation. That whether you are in opposition or in government, you have a right to say your mind and somebody who opposed you was not necessarily your enemy or opponent. We believe that everybody has the right to differ and if you don’t accommodate people’s quest to differ, it is a major minus to you in governance.”

Accordingly, a former commissioner for Information in the state, Mr. Abia Onyike on Thursday announced his defection from APC back to PDP, citing Umahi’s attitude in governance, autocracy and dictatorship as reasons he cannot accommodate himself in the same political party with Governor Umahi.

PoliticsAmaechi Claiming Igbo To Further His Ambition Of Becoming President-Wike by Ctorch(op):
The Ngwa are Igbos. The Ikwerre are Igbos. They are offsprings of the same father. So the statement attributed to His Excellency, Barrister Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State was shocking. He said an illustrious Igbo son, and I believe he was referring to the Honorable Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, was only claiming to be Igbo to further his ambition of becoming Nigerian president come 2023. Wike further disclaimed being Igbo himself.

Agreed, Wike has the right to hold any view so far as it is within the ambit of the law and not counter-productive. He can define himself in any manner he deems fit. But Amaechi, who holds the traditional chieftaincy title of ”Ochi Ariri Ikwerre,” meaning the Defender of Ikwerre in Times of Difficulty, also has the same right to see and define himself as Igbo. Wike does not enjoy the prerogative of determining himself and at the same time defining others.

Amaechi was former National President of the National Union of Rivers State Students, NURSS. He was former Speaker of Rivers House of Assembly, Chairman of the Conference of Speakers in Nigeria, two-term governor of Rivers, Chairman of the Governors Forum of Nigeria, GFN, and two-term Minister of Transportation. He is the first Nigerian to be appointed Minister of Transportation and first Ikwerre to be appointed full-fledged Grade A minister. As an Ikwerre, I am proud of Amaechi. As an Igbo, I am also proud of him.

Coming from the humanities, Amaechi is conscious of history and social anthropology. He said, “Look, I’m Ikwerre. But I’m also Igbo.” By so saying he did not in any way stop any Ikwerre from presenting himself as non-Igbo. Such an Ikwerre who denies his Igbo identity would have to explain himself to the gods.

Amaechi’s assertion of his Igboness on the BBC should not cause anyone a headache.

The Ikwerre Is Igbo

It is important to state for record purposes that historically Ikwerres fully identified themselves as Igbos without suffering harms. Chief Joseph Wobo, member of the Council of Chiefs of Eastern Nigeria, clearly stated he was an Igbo. Nobody can dismiss him as he defended Ikwerreland in colonial Nigeria.

Sir Jackson Mpi, first and last Ikwerre to be conferred with Knight of the Order of British Empire, OBE, by Queen Elizabeth II of England in 1960, identified himself as Igbo. From the ancient Kingdom of Isiokpo, Sir Mpi worked tirelessly for Igbo advancement.

Dr Obi Wali was the first Ikwerre PhD holder, senator and university lecturer. He was also the only Ikwerre in the 1978 Constituent Assembly where he was selected one of the 50 Wise Men that drafted the 1979 constitution. The great Dr Wali identified fully with his Igbo heritage and was gruesomely assassinated defending it.

Okogbule Wonodi, first Ikwerre registrar of any university, first and only Ikwerre poet and Paramount title Holder of Eze Ohiaemeru. Ohiaemeru, where you have present-day Comprehensive College in Borokiri, was his ancestral home before the British vacated them between 1913-1923. Wonodi remained a respected member of Nzukor Igbo and Ohanaeze Ndigbo till the end of his life.

Patriot Emmanuel Aguma was former Mayor of Port Harcourt. As Principal of St John College, Diobu, he was the first Ikwerre to head any college. One of six pre-independence Ikwerre University graduates, former administrator of Port Harcourt Province in the defunct Peoples Republic of Biafra, first Ikwere minister in 1979, Aguma remained a member of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

Emmanuel Oriji was a respected local government administrator, traditional ruler, a commissioner in old Rivers and core Igbo nationalist. The immediate past Deputy Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Isaac Wonwu, is an illustrious Ikwerre son from Elele. He is known to assert his Igbo identity. Equally valid, Chief Jackson Womenazu from Rumukrushi in the Evo Kingdom is a member of the Elders’ Council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

In colonial documents, written when Igbos had no capacity to influence anything, Ikwerres also defined themselves as Igbos. When Ikwerre leaders presented their case before the 1957 Sir Henry Willinks Commission, Wobo declared that Ikwerres were Igbos and Port Harcourt to Onitsha was Igboland.

The cream of Ikwerreland have asserted their Igboness. Most illustrious sons and daughters. Tell me any Ikwerre whose CV can match those of Mpi, Wobo, Aguma, Wonodi, Dr Wali or Amaechi?

The Ikwerre: Space and Survival

We must resolve all outstanding issues occasioned by the military-inspired partition of Ikwerreland as war booty. Our irreducible stand includes:
One, Ikwerres are Igbos and Ikwerreland is so important to the Igbo that they will never take any step to destroy Ikwerres or toy with their destiny. In geo-strategic terms, Ikwerreland is the tongue of the Igbo race to the sea.

Two, we are aware there are plans to landlock the Igbo nation. These plans are rooted in history. My brother and personal friend, Wike, should not be a crusader for such plans because it will be resisted with the sword as no nation will allow itself to be landlocked. All legitimate, moral and spiritual means available to Ndigbo would be used to resist the excise of Ikwerreland from the larger Igboland.

Three, “Obigbo,” means “Heart of Igboland.” It is the right name for that Local Government Area, LGA. “Oyigbo” means nothing and was never and will never be the name of Obigbo. The British met local people on ground who said their world was called Obigbo. Any researcher can go there and verify for himself. None should be persecuted for calling Obigbo its original pre-civil war name. I, Uche Okwukwu, call it Obigbo and I have no apologies for that.

Four, “Ohiaemeru” is the original name for Borokiri. It was the British who removed the indigenous Ikwerre population there before declaring the place Crown Land between 1913-1923. Equally so, “Igweocha” or “Diobu” is the original name for Port Harcourt. We must set the record straight.

Five, demographically and historically, Igbos constitute the majority in the Niger Delta. Wike’s idea of the region is flawed considering that nine states make up the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, namely, Imo, Abia, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo, Ondo and Rivers. It is absurd and unacceptable stating that Umuagwo is not in the Niger Delta but Ogoja is. Be that as it may, there is now a statutory definition of the region manifest in the NDDC Act.
Any definition that excludes the Igbo from the Niger Delta, or tends to disenfranchise them from the privileges thereof, is unacceptable. This is because there were plans in the past that destroyed any benefit coming to the Igbo. Boundary adjustments were carried out to remove oil-producing areas from the former East Central State.

Six, in terms of ethnicity and language, Igbos are also in the majority in Rivers. It is fallacious that there are no Igbos here. Igbos are here because Ikwerres are Igbos. Ogbas are Igbos, Ekpeyes are Igbos. Etches are Igbos. Obigbos are Igbos. So no one can talk about Igbos coming in to cause trouble. Igbos are peaceful. Rivers is our home, and we are its autochthones.

Seven, Binis have no cultural or historical link with Ikwerres. We worship different gods, have different market days with different monarchical structures. Our Kingship is not from father to son like the Binis. Our kingship is based on gerontocracy where the oldest person assumes leadership. What brought us together was the 1914 amalgamation. No pre-colonial or colonial record has it that Ikwerres migrated from Benin. The post-war purported claim that Ikwerres are Binis is parasitic, defeatist and self-hate.

Eight, Ikwerreland is heavily garrisoned. Two million Ikwerres in four LGAs are tightly sandwiched by two naval barracks at Iwofe and Borokiri; two army barracks at Port Harcourt and Elele; air force base in Port Harcourt and an army shooting range in Igwuruta. Large swathes of land were appropriated for the building of the international airport, University of Port Harcourt and its teaching hospital, Rivers State University, Ignatius Ajuru University, Nigerian Television Authority, Area 1 Seaport, etc.

We believe in the unity of this country but the Federal Government should dismantle the military formations and return their locations to land-bereft inner-city Ikwerres. Our burgeoning population has no living space and this could lead to the Oromo experience.

Why is Wike denying his Igbo roots?

Wike is an illustrious Ikwerre son. And for emphasis, he is an Igbo man. A kettle might call itself an electric kettle, but it remains a kettle. Wike will do himself great service to forget the purported prejudice of the past and assert his Igboness. You don’t deny your own roots because they may not be there anymore when later you need them. All those who deny their people have always regretted it.

Was Wike not doing an overkill saying that an Igbo son desirous to be president was claiming to be Igbo? His utterance undermines our 2023 presidential project. My real pain concerning Wike’s outburst is why he chose these trying moments when some mischievous Nigerians lumped Ndigbo with IPOB. It is frightening and I would like to know who is writing the script for him.
There was no nexus between the ENDSARS protest and an innocent Igbo desirous to be president. Where is the link? Wike is not a member of the APC. It is not his business who becomes the party’s flag bearer in 2023. He should be more concerned with the presidential candidate of his own Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Who drafted this spoiler-script for Wike?

In these trying moments when our own son, Nnamdi Kanu, has taken negative steps to bring us to public scorn, our brother, Wike, must not help our detractors consummate their agenda. Ndigbo have made it abundantly clear that IPOB does not represent their interests. It assaulted Ike Ekweremadu in Germany and Amaechi in Spain. It also insulted Orji Uzoh Kalu, Rochas Okorocha, Nnia Nwodo, Ralph Uwazurike, Uche Okwukwu, etc. Naturally, one would call on Wike to retract his statement.
I’m sure Wike wanted to exonerate himself from the IPOB excesses by saying he wasn’t Igbo. But none has said that IPOB was Igbo, not even the Federal Government. They know that Kanu’s followers are not limited to Igbos alone. There are elements from other ethnic groups. But anytime Kanu erred, instead of dealing with him alone, they deal with every Igbo.

The Federal Government must be careful dealing with IPOB bearing in mind the way the war ended and how those who were defeated perceive Nigeria. Agitation for Biafra can be doused by giving the Igbo a bite of the cherry. For instance, forty years after the creation of Rivers the Ikwerre were excluded from ruling the state. Things got so heated up till Ikwerres came to power.
Likewise, separatists can be contained by giving the Igbo the chance to rule Nigeria. Such brinkmanship can avert an implosion in the former Eastern Region likely to consume everyone, including those who don’t believe in IPOB. Wike himself may not be safe from such a catastrophe.

Amaechi and Okonjo-Iweala
Amaechi is one of our best to run for the office of the president of Nigeria. A pan-Nigerian with large heart and strong character, he will privilege an all-inclusive government.
But if Nigerians desire a female president the most qualified is Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. As former Minister of Finance and Managing Director of the World Bank, she’ll create the enabling environment for self-employment.

We also have other qualified Igbos. As former local government chairman, Chief of Staff to Rivers State Government and minister, Wike has the credentials to vie for the office of Nigerian president as an Igbo. I urge him to present himself as you can never be defeated in a war you didn’t fight. Let him be courageous to step forward.

Okorocha is qualified to lead Nigeria. With his Rochas Foundation, he is training over 55,000 African children.
The cerebral Senator Chris Ngige, wonderful man who turned around a failed Anambra State as governor, can run for the Nigerian presidency. A charismatic politician with a vast appetite for discipline, he laid an enviable foundation in governance unmatched. The roads he built between 2003 and 2006 are still intact as if they were tarred yesterday. As a senator in the opposition, he contributed in consolidating Nigerian democracy.

Ogbonnaya Onu is the father of opposition politics in Nigeria. From 1999-2015 he was in the opposition showing principle. Amiable and calm, Onu has a Doctorate in Chemical Engineering and established the Department of Chemical Engineering in the University of Port Harcourt. He is eminently qualified to lead Nigeria.

To the ruling APC, we shall present these greats for the party to make its choice
Equity means Igbos must be accorded the right to first choice and first refusal to produce the next president. The journey is long and road tough. But we are confident of light at the end of the tunnel. From a people who call God “Chukwu,” heaven “Eligwe,” earth “Ali,” Lucifer “Ekwensu,” water “Mini” and salt “Nnu,” Nigerian president will emerge in 2023.

We are not bothered whether the Nigerian president of Igbo extraction will come from the Igbanke in Edo; Asa/Azumili in Akwa Ibom, Anioma/Osimili in Delta, or Ogba/Obigbo in Rivers. Our goal is producing Nigerian president so that pains arising from decades of exclusion can be addressed; even though he may not do much for Ndigbo.

OHANAEZE LEADERSHIP: Uwazurike, Asoluka fault Obiozor’s emergence as consensus candidate

LEADING aspirants for the President-General of apex Igbo Socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, picked holes in the emergence of Professor George Obiozor as the consensus candidate for the position.

Professor Obiozor, Nigeria’s former Ambassador to the United States was on Monday presented as a consensus flag bearer by Imo State Leaders of Thought led by Elder statesman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu at an event held at the Government House, Owerri.

Three of the aspirants – former presidents of Igbo Think-Tank group Aka-Ikenga, Chiefs Chris Asoluka and Goddy Uwazurike; and former Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, Dr. Joe Nwaorgu spoke on the issue yesterday with Uwazurike and Asoluka describing Obiozor’s mode of emergence as consensus flag-bearer as illegal and unknown to Ohanaeze Constitution.

Asked his take on the development, Nwaorgu, who has been in the Ohanaeze leadership hierarchy for close to 20 years said he was still studying the situation. ”Sorry, I am not yet ready for comments on the issue,” he said in terse reply to a text message.

Owerri jamboree unknown to Ohanaeze constitution —Uwazurike

However, Uwazurike said the process of electing Ohanaeze leaders has no room for interlopers, and scuttles attempts to impose candidates, adding that the presentation of Obiozor as consensus candidate was a mere jamboree.

His words: ”Adoption of a consensus candidate for an office in Ohanaeze by a group of people is alien to the constitution. Ohanaeze only requires a candidate to purchase a form and contest for the post assigned to his state. In other words, I can go and gather 1,000 people and declare that Mr A is now a consensus candidate. Such an action goes to no issue except to massage the ego of Mr A . ”The Ime-obi is yet to sit to appoint an electoral committee. No electoral guidelines have been issued. So, what happened in Owerri is just a jamboree . Nobody can stop a candidate from election. This is because the Ohanaeze constitution expects at least three candidates to vie for that office. Ohanaeze shies away from the manipulation of state government in election of officers . It shunned the attempts of both Ebonyi and Imo States to impose candidates eight years ago by electing independent-minded officers

Ohanaeze shies away from the manipulation of state government in election of officers . It shunned the attempts of both Ebonyi and Imo States to impose candidates eight years ago by electing independent-minded officers.

”It is only after the screening of aspirants by the election committee that candidates can emerge for election for the office of the President General according to Article 11(b) of the Constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which stipulates that, ”the President General shall be elected by the National General Assembly.”

Asked if he is still in the race, he said: ”Of course I am in the race! I dey kampe! I cannot be deterred by a group of people playing out a script. Elechi of Ebonyi and Rochas of Imo State tried it and failed. Ohanaeze has its own process of election. Definitely, presenting a person to a governor is not there.

”Presently, we are all aspirants. Ime-obi will soon meet to appoint Electoral committee members. The electoral committee will present the guidelines to Imeobi for approval. Thereafter, aspirants will buy the forms and submit themselves for screening. If they are successful, they will become candidates. The voting for the next President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo World wide will be done on the floor of the general assembly. The process has no room for any interloper.’

They’re jumping the gun —Asoluka

On his part, Asoluka, former vice president general (Imo) of Ohanaeze, co-chairman of South East/South-South Professionals, SESSP, and chairman/member, Ohanaeze Election Committee for 2012 and 2016 elections consecutively, said that as of now, there are no candidates yet until an election committee and the guidelines have been approved by Ime-obi.

On the presentation of Obiozor as consensus candidate by Imo Leaders of Thought, he said any group of individuals is free to endorse anyone but that it is only “their preference, which neither binds the election committee nor determines who is eligible to contest the forthcoming elections.” He argued that it is premature for anyone to speak on who and who are candidates for an election which guidelines are yet to be unveiled, adding that until the close of return of forms whenever it opens and closes, no one can be said to be running as a candidate. It is only after the screening committee of aspirants by election committee that candidates can emerge.”

On mode of election for the Office of the President General, Asoluka cited Article 11(b) of the constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which stipulates that, “The President General shall be elected by the National General Assembly from all interested candidates from the state which turn it is to fill the office, provided there are at least three candidates”

The Ime-obi (Inner Caucus) of Ohanaeze Ndigbo will roll out guidelines for electing Nwodo’s successor next week after an enlarged meeting in Enugu.

Chief Nwodo’s tenure will end on January 9, 2021. By rotational Principle of Ohanaeze, the next president-general will come from Imo, a reason a host of Imo leaders are now in the race.

Those eyeing the Ohanaeze prime seat include Professor George Obiozor; Chiefs Chris Asoluka and Goddy Uwazurike; Dr. Joe Nwaorgu; former Imo State governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim; former Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, Prof. Ukachukwu Aloysius Awuzie; Professor of Law, and former Dean, Faculty of Law, Imo State University, Dr. Nnaemeka Onyeka Obiaraeri among others.

Why I want to lead Ndigbo —Obiozor

Meanwhile, Professor Obiozor has thanked Imo State Ohanaeze Ndigbo, elders and stakeholders for adopting and presenting him as a consensus candidate, and vowed to offer selfless service to the Igbo because he sees it as ”a challenge that I must confront triumphantly with honour and dignity, and a sense of responsibility that history beckons on my humble self to shoulder, for the benefit of Ndigbo, humanity and to the glory of God.

May I equally humbly confess that my decision to contest for the office of president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo World Wide was a decision not based on self-aggrandizement, personal ambition or self-promotion. By my age and career history, I have long out grown all that. Instead, my most compelling necessity was service, a timely and crucial service at one of the most critical times in Nigerian history with dire consequences, particularly for Ndigbo as a national entity. Indeed, not only has governance become both difficult and complex in Nigeria, but down right an existential threat to Ndigbo in particular.

PoliticsIgbo Monarchs Battle Ezeigbo In Diaspora, Demands That It Should Be Abolished. by Ctorch(op):
•It is against Igbo tradition, should be abolished — Chairman, Abia Council of traditional rulers
• Southeast governors should wade into it — Eze Matthew Oweni
• We are the cause of our problem — Imo monarch
• It is belittling Igbo culture and tradition — Igwe Spencer Ugwuoke
• It portrays great disrespect, disservice and bastardization of Igbo custom, tradition
By Anayo Okoli, Ugochukwu Alaribe, Chimaobi Nwaiwu, Chinonso Alozie & Ikechukwu Odu
ENUGU—The issue of Ezeigbo in Diaspora has been one issue that has divided the opinions of Igbo leaders and stakeholders.
Some have argued that it has belittled the powers of traditional rulers in Igbo land who sit over the cultural and traditional affairs in the various communities only to hear of one of their subjects being made Ezeigbo in another place outside his domain. This has been embarrassing to many monarchs.
They argued that in as much as there is need for Igbo outside their domain to have leadership for better direction, it is absurd to call such leader Ezeigbo.

According to them, any other name is suffice but definitely, not Ezeigbo. The controversy has been raging. Even some monarchs outside Igbo land have complained and expressed their opposition to such titles in their domain which they believe is illegal and should not be allowed in their domain.
The Chairman, Abia State of traditional rulers, Eze Ndubuisi Nwabeke, sees this practice as illegal and absurd and called for the abolition of the title of Eze Ndigbo for Igbo people residing in other states and cities in Nigeria and abroad. This, he said is completely against Igbo tradtion.
According to Eze Nwabeke, it is against Igbo tradition to have traditional rulers outside Igbo land. The South East council of traditional rulers, he said, had long advised Igbo people residing outside Igbo land to address their leaders as Onye Ndu Ndigbo, (leader of Igbo people) not EzeNdigbo.

Nwabeke, who is the traditional ruler of Eziama Ntigha Autonomous Community, Isiala Ngwa North Council Area, explained that the title ‘Eze’ is reserved for traditional rulers duly elected by a local community, presented to the Local Government Council by the community and recognized by the State Government and issued with a staff of office by the Governor of the State.
“This thing called Eze Ndigbo or Eze Igbo in other states or cities of this country outside their respective states or communities should not be encouraged. It must be abolished. It portrays great disrespect and disservice to the Igbo traditional rulership system.
The South East Council of Traditional Rulers had long ago advised Igbo indigenes residing outside Igbo land to choose the name of Onye Ndu Ndigbo in their respective states or cities where they live.

“An Eze should rule a community that has a map showing the area of his authority and a constitution that guides his rulership. No one can be an Eze in another person’s land or state. You must be a free born of the community you are to rule. Tenants in urban areas should not talk of having palaces in a foreign land where they reside.

“If I may ask, how does an Eze Ndigbo in Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna or Kebbi get recognition or staff of office? Who screens or confirms him as Eze Ndigbo? Who gives him authority? How does he determine his area of authority or jurisdiction?
“Is it the Governor or Local Government chairman of another state who doesn’t understand the Igbo custom and tradition?

“Most of the so called Eze Ndigbo have gone on to build palaces in their states of residence. We are not against the building of palaces, but the proper things must be done. In all these, you observe that the Eze Ndigbo title is certainly a bastardization of Igbo custom and tradition as long as our traditional rulership system is concerned.

“There has never been an Emir of Aba or Oba of Aba by any Hausa or Yoruba man residing in Aba. It is therefore reckless of any Igbo man residing in any city in Nigeria or abroad to arrogate to himself a title of Eze Ndigbo. It shows lack of respect to the traditional institution and should not be encouraged”, Eze Nwabeke declared.
He, therefore, urged governors, chairmen of Local Government Areas and traditional rulers outside Igbo land to deny recognition to Eze Ndigbo title, but accept leaders of Igbo groups in their respective areas as Onye Ndu Ndigbo (Igbo Leader).
He also urged Igbo people residing outside Igbo land to have associations for their social interactions while such must have leaders addressed as Onye Ndu Ndigbo in their states or cities.
“The monarch maintained that the age long Igbo tradition of Ezeship must be accorded the respect and support it deserves, stressing that people are addressed by how they portray themselves among other ethnic groups.
“Ndigbo should respect and support their age long tradition of Ezeship as the name you call your dog is what it answer. Let us for once respect our traditional title of Eze as other ethnic groups do to their Oba, Emir, among others”, the monarch further admonished.
Also, a prominent monarch in Enugu State and the traditional ruler of Obimo Autonomous Community in Enugu State, Igwe Spencer Ugwuoke, has condemned in strong terms the conferment of Eze Ndigbo in Diaspora on Igbo indigenes.
Ugwuoke said any Diaspora community recognizing another Eze Ndigbo in a foreign land is belittling Igbo culture and tradition.
He, however, commended the efforts of the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, in fighting for Igbo agenda, but insisted that he needs to carry the traditional rulers of different Igbo communities along in seeking solutions to some issues plaguing the Igbo nation.
“How can any Igbo man who suckled his mother’s breast milk go out to any foreign land and be crowned Eze Ndigbo? What sort of thing is that? We now have Eze Ndigbo in Malaysia, Germany, Lagos and what have you. This is very embarrassing and a tragic disservice to our culture and tradition.

“Have you ever heard of Emir of Kano in Enugu or Sultan of Sokoto in Dubai or are the Hausas not living in those places? It has reduced our respect as traditional rulers from the Igbo extraction.

“In old Anambra State, you cannot wear red cap unless you are a titled man but look at what is happening today. Everybody wears it without any regard to the traditional Igbo institutions who own it. These days, I don’t wear red caps anymore because it has been devalued.
“There should be chairmen of Diaspora Igbo associations, not kings. How can you go to someone else’s country and claim to be a king?

“A king in another person’s home and you expect him to be happy with you? Why don’t the English people crown king of England in Nigeria? I think we should give a second thought to our actions so that we don’t fall victims of some situations”, Ugwuoke said.

“The traditional rulers do not take priority seats in any function being organized by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo. This needs to be amended because it is when the ‘Oha’ and ‘Ezes’ meet that issues concerning Igbo nation such as this would be addressed”, the monarch said.
For the traditional ruler of Ogbor ancient kingdom in Isiala Mbano council area of Imo State, Eze Matthew Oweni, the issue of Ezeigbo in Diaspora has continued to cause disaffection between the Igbo and their host communities.

Eze Oweni said allowing such amounts to having two kings in a community. He advised the governors to collaborate with the traditional institutions and send delegations to the various states to speak to the Igbos on how to resolve the issues.
According to him, they (monarchs) had made such move some years back to Lagos and introduced to them a new title of ‘ Ochiora’ (leader) instead of using Eze Ndigbo.
“We are the cause of our problem. We have rectified this matter for a very long time for over five years ago. This issue of Eze Ndigbo, took us to Lagos State and we met Chief Ralph Uwazuruike at his Iri ji (New Yam) festival.
“At that ceremony, we advised the Igbo leaders at the occasion and told them to avoid this problem by using the title, “Ochiora” Ndigbo or “Aka na elekota Ndigbo instead of the title Eze Ndigbo. We have rectified all these issues and anybody you see going with that Igbo title of Eze Ndigbo wants to use it and cause problems.
“The present Southeast governors should invite the traditional rulers in Igboland and send them to go and talk to our brothers in the various parts of the state that are not of Igboland”, Eze Oweni suggested.

In the view of a member of Dunukofia Ozo Titled Men in Anambra State, Chief Ozoh Anaekwe, traditional rulers in Igbo land should stop further desecration of traditional rulers stools by not recognizing people who go outside Igbo land to answer Eze Ndigbo, resident in such areas.
Describing such people as those who want to rule in hell than to serve in paradise, Chief Anaekwe, who holds the title of Ezeana in the Ifitedunu Igwes Cabinet, also urged the traditional rulers, kings, Emirs of the communities where such people parade as Eze Ndigbo to stop them because they are also desecrating and making nonsense of their own traditional stool as according to Anaekwe, two kings cannot be in one town or throne.

Their so called Igbo King or Eze Ndigbo in Ibadan, Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, Maiduguri, Sokoto and other states as the case may be, is telling people that there are two kings in one town is an insult to Igbo culture and the culture of the host community or state.
“If it was the time when we had Igbo Union, nobody can try that nonsense? It is because of the type of politicians we have in the country today. If not, they cannot be recognized as traditional ruler or Eze Ndigbo or Igbo King or whatever they call themselves, anywhere in the country.

“Those who are aspiring to be traditional rulers in other kingdoms, domains or states are the people that are causing problem in their communities. When they vie for Ezeship positions in their communities and fail, because they are not wanted they will leave for another state to go and start answering the traditional ruler. Nobody elected or selected them to be, in another state and country.

“They should not be taken seriously, they are supposed to be sanctioned and penalized because what they are doing is not part of Igbo tradition. We do not recognize them and will never recognize them; that their title stops at the state, country or community they reside and operate the Eze Ndigbo.
“We are also calling on the Ohanaeze Ndigbo to start the processes of abolishing that nonsense they call Eze Ndigbo or Igwe Ndigbo in states of the federation because that is not part of Igbo culture and tradition. We do not recognize them and will never recognize them because it is a slap and a desecration of our culture and tradition to Ezeship stool in Igbo land.

“Traditional rulers in Igbo land should swing into action and ban that nonsense if they must get respect from us. The host communities that are allowing them should also ban it in their communities and states because it is also an insult to their own traditional rulership stool. There can never be two Kings in one community. Any king that allows it is disrespecting himself and desecrating his traditional stool”, he further said

“The people answering Eze Ndigbo are politicians registered and working for respective political parties, giving fake endorsement to parties and individuals against the wish of Ndigbo.
“They want to rule in hell than to serve in Paradise, at their communities. They are people causing trouble and confusion and they are the people who oppose all the developmental projects because of their selfish interests.”

PoliticsOHANAEZE LEADER: George Obiozor Emerges As Consensus Candidate by Ctorch(op): 7:30am On Nov 24, 2020
.

SEVENTY-NINE days to the expiration of the three-year tenure of Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s President-General, Chief Nnia Nwodo, former Nigeria Ambassador to United States, Professor George Obiozor, has emerged as the consensus candidate to succeed Nwodo.

Professor Obiozor was unanimously presented as a consensus flagbearer by Imo State stakeholders on Monday at an event held at the Government House, Owerri.

The stakeholders were led by elder statesman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

Also present were other top Igbo elders as well
Meanwhile, the Imeobi (Inner Caucus) of Ohanaeze Nidgbo will roll out guidelines for electing Nwodo’s successor, next week after an enlarged meeting in Enugu.

Chief Nwodo’s tenure will end on January 9, 2021. By the rotational principle of Ohanaeze, the next president-general will come from Imo, a reason a host of Imo leaders are now in the race.

Those eyeing the Ohanaeze prime seat include Professor George Obiozor; former presidents of Igbo Think-Tank group, Aka-Ikenga, Chiefs Chris Asoluka, and Goddy Uwazurike; former Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, Dr. Joe Nwaogu.

Others are former Imo State governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim; former Vice-Chancellor of Imo State University, Professor Ukachukwu Aloysius Awuzie; Professor of Law, and former Dean, Faculty of Law, Imo State University, Dr. Nnaemeka Onyeka Obiaraeri.

How Obiozor emerged

Speaking on how and why Obiozor was chosen to lead Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Iwuanyanwu, who is the chairman of the Imo Stakeholders, said: “So many prepared for the position; we didn’t want to be put in an awkward position, so we organised ourselves.

“That is why over 200 Igbo leaders, cutting across political parties, came together to arrive at one consensus candidate.”

Responding, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, said: “Igbo is beginning to be aggrieved, but we can speak with one voice.

“I thank you for speaking with one voice; every generation has its own challenges and Ndigbo must navigate with the wisdom of Solomon.

“To achieve this we must be diplomatic and accommodating. A point can be achieved without firing a shot in the air.

On Obiozor’s emergence, he said: “The decision of the Imo State chapter of Ohanaeze to present the consensus candidate of this organisation is very laudable.

“I was taken unawares by their actions. I had no choice but to follow their part.

“By the constitution, it’s the turn of Imo State to produce the President-General. The choice of Professor Obiozor is welcomed as he is eminently qualified by his wealth of experience.

“His adoption is coming at a critical time in the history of Ndigbo in Nigeria. He would seek justice for Ndigbo not by confrontation but by persuasion. Our tomorrow is still bright.”

PoliticsOil Communities’ Campaign To control 13% Derivation Irrational— Gov Okowa by Ctorch(op): 8:27am On Nov 21, 2020
DELTA State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has picked holes in the increasing outcry by stakeholders in Niger Delta for the Federal Government to pay 13 per cent derivation fund directly to oil communities, describing the agitation as illogical. Governor Okowa, interacting with journalists at Asaba, the state capital, cautioned the campaigners that their current tactic would create disaffection, which antagonists of the region were looking for to divert attention from the issue of restructuring.

He noted: “I think it is important that we put our energy in the right direction because people have the wrong concepts on what need to be done. As of today, I am not a lawyer, but I believe that the constitution is very straight forward on how derivation fund should be handled and who should handle it.” ”What we are doing as at today is to drive the process in Petroleum Industry Bill,  PIB,  where the oil-bearing communities themselves will have some leverages and be provided for in the constitution and law, which allow them to have a percentage for the various communities.

“That will help to strengthen the relationship between the communities and the oil companies because such provisions have been envisaged and that is the process that we ought to drive. “But if every community rises and say they want to control their resources, am sure that Nigeria will eventually become a banana republic and there will be no control, no country and no state. ”If you are talking about Delta state for instance, I think about 20 or 21 local government areas are oil-producing, if every community begins to control its own, I am sure that the crises and battles that will come out of it will be beyond our control.

“Though people have their views and they have the rights to such views, it is for us to follow the constitution and the laws of the land at the moment. I believe that having been able to vote governors and lawmakers, we should allow them to manage these resources and if they are not managing the resources as we want, you have the right to vote the person out in the next four years,” he said. Okowa, also chairman of South-South Governors Forum, said:

“It is not a question of I want to manage the 13 per cent, they ought to say they want to manage the 100 per cent. If you are providing 100 per cent and only 13 per cent comes to the state, what about the 87 per cent being shared among other states in the country? “You did not push for the 87 per cent, but it is the 13 per cent coming to the state that you want to manage, it does not make sense. If you really want to manage your resources you should be clear cut on what you want, but unfortunately, people just want to be heard and noticed and continue to make their comments the way they want. ”And by the time the governors are talking on their own, you are getting a group of communities talking and those ones have a different viewpoint.

By the time this division is created among the people, what then happens? They will say we are singing in different tones, that you do not have a collective voice on the true management of resources, which is the resource control we are talking about. “They divert your attention from the issues of adequate restructuring of the country the way we are to talk about it. ”So it is a lot of politics going on, but I believe the governors of the south-south are doing well enough and why do I say so? We are in this country and we see what is going on in many other states. I have visited most states in the south-south and I can see the governors of the south-south are indeed doing very well amidst the challenges we have to manage. “There is a lot of money spent in keeping the peace in the Niger Delta even though we have the military and others, people cannot say they are ignorant of this because it is a well-known fact,” the governor asserted. Covid-19 hindered our plan for BRACED Commission Governor Okowa, however, there was room for fair review, adding: “We tried to start the BRACED Commission, unfortunately, COVID-19 slowed us down, but now that we are beginning to understand things better, we have already appointed a director-general. “And I believe we will have an avenue to relate with ourselves the more, to examine and share values of governance and ideas and speak with one voice.

” FG undercutting states In his words: “There is no doubt that many times we have been shortchanged by the Federal Government because we are not in the centre of issues on how much we get and what comes to us. But as much as possible we are hoping to be able to get the best we can in the current circumstance. “As at today, there is a lot of money being owed us for derivation, we are working hard to see that will get it and pray that the government at the federal level will be
magnanimous to pay us the entire backlog that they owe us.”
Speaking on the control of gold deposits in Zamfara state by Zamfara state government, “You will recall that the south-south governors before now were talking about the need for restructuring and need for resource control, and obviously are on that because we feel there is the need to restructure, not just powers at the federal level to the state and local government, but also the devolution of resources.

“But as at today, there are acts in the National Assembly that guide the issue of oil production which is dealt with in the constitution and with the solid minerals, those are not covered in these acts and obviously, this is already a sore point in our nation’s governance system, ”We cannot apply laws in our nation to the point in such a way that it becomes discriminatory because if people are allowed to process for their solid minerals, they should also be allowed to do same for their oil. So we are going to be very hard and try to make our voice as strong as possible … I believe that at some point in time, these discriminatory tendencies will have to be revisited in this nation at some point in time,” he added. Investment drive Continuing, the governor asserted: “We are doing everything to see how we can attract investment; we have a Delta State Investment Agency and other agencies working around to see how we can attract investment.

“We have been able to attract a few but the situation in the world is making things very difficult for investors to come in. We are also trying to ensure that we create enabling environment; we have also passed a law on the ban of development levy which has been a great challenge for the state and we just created a coordinating committee, which will be able to deal with that issue.” ”We have the Kwale Industrial Park but COVID-19 has really slowed things down for us, and the way it is going, it is going to take a longer time for people to come and invest outside their countries. “We also partnering with the Central Bank of Nigeria and other businesses in the agricultural development sector which is also an area that can uplift a lot of our people, especially in areas of cassava and oil palm development. “I believe all these are already yielding results because we are in the process of having a cassava site manufacturing company which will provide a lot of jobs and we are hoping to keep faith with this. Outbreak of yellow fever The governor, who spoke on the recent outbreak of yellow fever in part of the state, asserted:

“On the number of yellow fever cases as at last week, I am aware that 22 have died, but we hope that now that the vaccination has started we hope the situation will be brought to normal. “It takes about 10 days for people to get their immunity and hope that the death rates will be remarkably and eventually not be there any longer.” “We are definitely going to scale-up vaccination in other parts of the state. We have many vaccination units in the state and I am told that in Ika North East local government area alone, we have about 80 teams and I believe that those teams will fan out to other local governments very soon. Pensions for ex-govs Answering a question on if he planned to review pensions for former governors given the reconsideration of same by his Lagos and Kwara states counterpart, he said: “ As regards to payment of pensions for former governors of the state, I do not think I want to comment on that because there is an existing law in Delta state on that. I think there are better things for me to look into than to start looking back into the laws that did exist.” “He (Lagos governor) has the right to take a decision that he wants to take as he has his reasons for doing it and I cannot criticize him, but there are many more important things to be done now time for me to start looking on how to reverse one law or the other because that is not in my thought process at the moment.

On job opportunity created for the people by the governor of Cross River State, Okowa asserted: ‘The governor has his right to make such employments. I do not know how many people he has in his staff list as at today, but I know that as at today, we are not trying deliberately to scale down our staff list, we believe that Delta state was overstaffed. “As we came in, we had a little over 60,000 on the employment of the state government, no other state in the country had that as they had between 15000 to over 20,000 in their staff list, but on Saturday I believe that number has dropped to 50,000, a little bit below that and that is still a high number for a state government and that is still an issue.” “But when vacancies occur, we do employ people just like the way we did when we employed some science teachers. I also believe in the course of 2021, we are going to employ more teachers but it will be mainly also science-based teachers. “We will also be employing teachers for new technical schools and that will be in the early part of next year because we hope that the schools will kick off, September 2021, to engage them early enough and put them through some training and retraining before they take off in September. So we will employ according to needs and not based on pressure,” he stated.

PoliticsNigeria Signs Mou To Import Fuel From Niger Republic by Ctorch(op): 12:42pm On Nov 20, 2020
The Nigerian government, through the ministry of petroleum resources, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Niger Republic for petroleum products importation.

According to a statement released by the ministry, Soraz Refinery in Zinder, Niger Republic, has an installed refining capacity of 20,000 barrels per day compared to the nation’s 5,000bpd domestic requirement.

This leaves a surplus of 15,000 barrels per day.

Mele Kyari, group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), signed the MoU on behalf of Nigeria while Alio Toune, director-general of Niger Republic’s National Oil Company, Societe Nigerienne De Petrole (SONIDEP), signed on behalf of his country.

A
The signing was witnessed by the ministers of state for petroleum of the two countries, Timipre Sylva for Nigeria and Foumakoye Gado for Niger Republic.

“This is a major step forward. The Niger Republic has some excess products which need to be evacuated. Nigeria has the market for these products. Therefore, this is going to be a win-win relationship for both countries,” Sylva said.

“My hope is that this is going to be the beginning of deepening trade relations between Niger Republic and Nigeria.”

In his remarks, Kyari said the two countries have had long engagements in the last four to five months with a view to restoring the importation of petroleum products (excess production) from Niger into Nigeria.

“With this development, we hope to have a long-lasting and sustainable commercial framework to have a pipeline from the Soraz Refinery in Zinder (Niger) into the most proximate Nigerian city so that we can develop a depot.

“We are happy that we have reached that conclusion and our two ministers have endorsed this framework. We are also working on a detailed MoU between our two companies so that we can continue the execution process immediately.”

Nigeria currently imports refined petroleum products despite having four refineries. As a result, scarce forex is spent to ensure that there is no scarcity in the country.

Government officials have expressed hopes that the 350,000 capacity Dangote refinery being constructed will end the era of petroleum products importation in Nigeria.

PoliticsOluwo Of Iwo Begs Osun Youth To Make Him Leader Of #endsars Protest by Ctorch(op): 6:50pm On Nov 19, 2020
Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has asked the youth of Osun State to make him their leader whenever the need arises to hold another protest against police brutality.

According to the monarch, a protest without leadership like the just concluded #EndSARS will not work in Nigeria

Oba Akanbi spoke in Osogbo during an interactive programme organised by Osun State Government.

The monarch said he was ready to lead the youth in any genuine protest as a way to make their demands get to the authorities concerned.

He said, “Next time, if you want to organise a protest and you don’t have anyone to lead you, you may be afraid that they may kill you or you are afraid of being arrested, come to me, I will lead the protest.

“There is no way you can organise protest without leadership. You must give room for dialogue because it is the leadership that will eventually sit down and discuss with the government. That is the only way you can fight and get your demands to the government.”
