Nairaland GeneralRe: How Do You Feel When Asked For A Tip? by Curiouscity(m): 8:33pm On Jan 15, 2013
fork adict: I share very similar sentiments with you on this. And sadly enough, it is the trend in naija. People as for tips for doing the same thing they were hired by their employees to do in the first place. like they are doing you a favour. Very very very very very disgusting attitude if you ask me. Worst culprits are the civil servants or federal parastatals. Jeez, those id.iots kinda compell you to give those tips by employing all sorts of frustrating tactics. Naija is really messed up!
Private businesses do it also, though the employees. 2011 I lodged 3 nights in a hotel in a SS state. On leaving, I left a 5K tip at the reception for all of them. I immagine, one person pocketed the cash. 2weeks later, I went there and was given the most cold treatment a customer service has given me in my life. My elder bros who later came to see me fell out with them. I was told some were sacked.

The point they do all these, yet we still blame the lootocrats(politicians) for corruptions. Every Di.ck, Tom n Harry want to make it sharp sharp in Naija!!

The truth is most youths in Nigeria don't know what they want.

We shout everyday that musicians and other artistes should speak the mind of the masses to our looting masters. Now this guy is doing it subtly some persons are here expecting a joke to laugh at. Some are even saying it is blasphemous. Really?? Are we that shallow minded?

Whether it was meant to be a joke or not, this guy has pass a message of general discontentment to our lootocrats.

Hmmmm, she is married, that is very cool.

Can we all learn from this? Someone of her level marrying without making noise all over the place about it? I bet not up to 10% of us on this was aware of it till now. Can our celebrities learn from her(I imagine she is not regarded as a celebrity)?

Chimamanda, beautiful, intelligent yet humble!!!
FamilyRe: Do You Believe In Marrying Young? by Curiouscity(m): 1:31am On Jan 08, 2013
I used to dream of early marriage(25-27) till I woke up in southern Nigeria(SS/SE) where they expect me to build house, buy car before marrying. The girl will accept me if and only if I have a fat account, work in bank or oil coy, have the latest start of the art car/house, open a separate account for her unaccountable expenditures. During the marriage ceremony I must buy things for all my siblings, uncles, aunties and cousins, else they would not follow me. My in-law to-be must become rich over-night if I must marry their daughter courtesy of my pocket. Finally, I must do the ceremony to beat the last person that did his. Cook and entertain the whole town or village and sometimes give them take away.

So, I quickly killed that dream. In fact I am going back to sleep, maybe I can dream another one grin

PoliticsRe: Amaechi Appoints 6 Female Permanent Secretaries, Sacks Commissioners by Curiouscity(m): 10:48pm On Jan 03, 2013
Sisi_Kill: Gah!! Instead of hiring 6 permanent secretaries, these eejits need to hire PRESS SECRETARIES who will keep them from just opening their big gbagba mouths to talk anyhow.

In a sane society he just opened himself for a gender discrimination lawsuit. Apart from that, he doesn't even try to cover is faux pas by stressing that there really was a real need for 6 secretaries, it looks like he counted the number of female workers on his staff, saw he hadn't met the quota and went "Oya, let us hire 6 more women".

Besides, In this day and age where technology has made things easy. . .who the hell needs 6 secretaries?!! Another waste of money! undecided

And the women. . .Do they care that the only reason they got hire isn't necessarily because they are good at their job. . .at anything but because they are "fortunate" enough to be women?

God help us!!
I thought the article said permanent secretaries, which means they are for MDA. Every ministry has one. I think it is the head of the ministry that is not a political appointment( except Madam Patience). NOT his secretaries!!

BTW, when will Amaechi sack the people(commisioner of edu) who refuse to pay scholarship money to student overseas even after such money has been released by the government?
FamilyRe: Unbelievable - My Mother Asked My Woman To Leave by Curiouscity(m): 6:23pm On Jan 01, 2013
YoungSalute: The gospel truth, we are not married like court or church thing. But intend to do so soon.

Staying together doesn't count because her place of work is close to my place. To save money for better things instead of wasting about 450K for a year.

Secondly, gas and yam caused everything.

My woman was cooking and the cooking gas got finished, because mum was hungry.

She got angry that she (my woman) didn't put the food inside fridge knowing well that gas had finished. She accused her ( my woman) of wasting food and trying to spoil the food that was half cooked.

Mum got angry, ping me immediately to say. Ask your girl to leave. I replied by saying explain why.

Thirdly , I can't ask my mum to leave not because I am indecisive. But I hate the fact that she is trying to impose things on me. I don't live with her, like I said. She's finding it so hard to stay alone after being attacked or robbed.
I now understand!!!

I was thinking U are married. Most mothers find it hard to respect live-in partners in Nigeria.
FamilyRe: Unbelievable - My Mother Asked My Woman To Leave by Curiouscity(m): 6:21pm On Jan 01, 2013
I cry reading this post here. This is exactly what my sister is going through in her marriage. But in her own case, the husband is still a boy tied to the mother's apron string. It can be so painful to the lady especially when U are from a home that respects individual freedom and choices. My own mom treat my brother's wife and mine as her daughters such that they can even plan for or against us.

@poster, an adage in my language says "You can be a child when you mother is attacked, but can NEVER be a child when your wife is attacked". Take time and talk to your mom. What she is doing is not love but jealousy. If she truly loves U, she will want your happiness which is your wife!!

BusinessRe: A Millionaire At 29, That’s Five Years Late! by Curiouscity(m):
Frank-C:
I understand how you feel as i appreciate that sucess is not meant for everybody. Some people must be salary earners.
Entrepreneaurs actually thrive on tough and inadequate environment. Tell me how exactly the government aided Mark's sucess in his facebook coy.
Some of you critics are wasting your time and talent. You need to focus what you can do with your time to create wealth, insulting GEJ and Ngozi doesn't just do that for you.
Yes, government provides the environment for entrepreneurs to create wealth by introducing tax regimes and proper business climate but the society need youths with guts to stick out their necks and take business risks. Government doesn't create jobs, they provide the right environment and that environment is presently making many people rich. That is wealth creation.
Presently, we have a favorable business tax regime and lots of waiver which foreigners are taking advantage of while the Nigerian youth is busy criticizing government. This is a failure on the part of Nigerian youth, not the government. The same way our inability to win medals in olympics is a marked failure of this generation of youths.
Lebanese youths, Chinese youths, Indian and Pakistani youths and very many other nationals are here making money and taking advantage of waivers and Nigerian youths are here insulting the GEJ and carrying files for these foreigners to employ them.
Guy, Mark was encouraged from high school that hard-work pays. In Nigerian politics and shot-cuts pays. Where Mark n Bill-Gate started, hard work is respected, in Nigeria MONEY is respected. Hence, the mad rush to be get even.
Mark had access to government loan. What loan facility can a school drop-out have in Nigeria?
There is unemployment benefit where Mark, Bill Gate etc lived with while nursing this ideas into fruition. How about power? I am against government hand-outs, but let the government create an enabling environment and see Nigerian youths attend their full potentials. Take off your glasses bro!!

PoliticsRe: Governor Idris Wada Involved In Car Accident by Curiouscity(m): 8:49pm On Dec 28, 2012
When I was a kid, governors' convoy used to be a thing to admire and watch. Now, it is a terror to dread due to speed and reckless driving. Not that governors then didn't steal money, but they didn't rub it on the face of the masses. Why are they always in a haste to nowhere if not to hide from the owners of the money they are stealing and the thugs they created. I wish their consciences will start talking to the other public officials including all of us on this blog who are involved in "chop I chop" service in any capacity.
Nairaland GeneralOpen Letter To Seun On The Need For Agric Section by Curiouscity(op):
Dear Landlord,

Compliment of the yuletide season. I have been here for about an hour searching for some information on farming/agriculture. Though I have seen a couple of information scattered here in the "Business" section, I believe Agriculture is a major source of money, food and employment in developed economies and to some extent in Nigeria. I feel a full section should be given to Agriculture as given to other aspect of live in Nigeria. If we have a section for "Food", then I believe we should have one for Agriculture. Such a section will make easy access to agricultural information possible, helps practicing and potential farmers to share ideas, and encourage others to invest or enter into agriculture.

Thanks for giving my appeal the appropriate attention.

Your tenant on Nairaland

I like the idea that Nigerian youths are thinking of farming. This is not only a way to make money but also to ensure food security in the country.
Kudos to you guys.

But, can we all ask Seun(the Landlord of Nairaland) to give a full section to Agriculture?
EducationRe: Universities To Avoid If You Are Immoral From Your Home by Curiouscity(m): 12:07am On Dec 27, 2012
The problem is most Nigerians are empty religious bigots. Most religious secondary schools (eg seminaries and juniorates) send out pretenders who enter the society and become more perverse than those who attended secular schools. In educating someone, freewill is a major component for a balance life. These are tertiary institutions for goodness sake. Why not focus on high education standards?

Only in Nigeria!!

I learned .......

That the followers in Nigeria are worse than the leaders
That most Nigerian youths rather shout/argue than discuss
Than Nigerian is far more divided than what I see in the demographic maps
That going to reading and writing are not the best indices of education
That hatred, bigotry, tribalism and fanaticism is a hobby for most youths in Nigeria
.
.
.
That most youths find it hard to think independently!!

Just marry your bible and you won't be tossed by the wind of heresy.
Well, I am aware of those passages in the bible. I feel people are just tired or don't want to face reality, so they look for escape.

alabiyemmy: So it is wrong to have a census of people without jobs in Nigeria? sometimes I wonder which kind of people make comments on NairaLand.

Every country has statistics on different sectors and having one on employment/unemployment is not a bad idea.

Objectivity is gone to the winds in the mind of people.

Noone ever says why it is a bad idea but some ill conceived comments with no logical proof.
Do the other countries you are talking about do census to have the record or they have accurate database? How do U have a proper database when there in NO accurate population census figure? Must we set up a committee be set for everything? Why can't they ask institutions to keep appropriate records from where they can get desire data rather waste time and money? OK, they want to give contract to their cronies. Yes, other countries have accurate data about their citizens but not by setting up committees everywhere!!
