NOwazobia:Very good question! |
Kobojunkie:But you, @Kobojunkie, are one of the major promoters of "your kids are not your retirement plan". And parents shouldn't have a say in a child's life. I believe the child in question is an adult (based on legal age). Why can't the son take responsibility of his educational pursuit as done in "saner climes"? The earlier we appreciate the uniqueness of our African culture, the better we will live. Not everything has to be done as is seen in the West. Parents sacrifice for their children, and hope the children will in turn care for them in old age. Shekinan! |
A more balanced heading and write up would be "Things that hurt your spouse ". Women equally do these things, and more, to their husbands. Marriage is not about one person. No one person should be the giver and the other, the taker, in Marriage. |
As part of today's celebration of international women's day, I reflect on what is becoming of womanhood, and most especially as our daughters grow up to become women. As someone what at some point dated ladies, and later got married, most women don't know how to say their minds. Even some ladies will joke that when a lady says NO, she doesn't mean it. Please, a "No" should mean NO. No ambiguity! If you like a guy, say so. If you don't, say NO, and move on. But we have ladies who say "NO" yet start sending an opposing signal to the guy. This sometimes lead to date r@pe. Parents, please teach your daughters to say NO, and mean No. Another plague ravaging the family structure is the inability of modern women(young ladies) to take "NO". They regard No very personal. And they can use many years to plan for a revenge for a "NO". Many ladies don't know how to handle a "No". A "NO" from parents, friends, boyfriends, husbands, or even a love interest. Please, teach your daughters how to accept "NO". The more prepared our daughters are to say "No" and mean No, and also accept a "No", the higher their self esteem, and chances to succeed in our modern society. Seeking External validation is a faster route to self destruction. |
Mindlog:I know some men are sometimes in a haste to throw their wives belongings out, when they have had enough, but pray you don't have to deal with a vindictive and manipulative woman. Some women will set up a scene to destroy you, and make the world to believe their stories. In a woke world of today, a woman is always innocent until proven guilty, while the man is guilty until proven innocent. During the pandemic, my wife ask for something, I explained why we couldn't afford such at that time, that she should be patient. Few days later, the brother called me, stating how important it was to grant my wife's request. I stood my grounds knowing the financial burden her request carried. Then a week later, my brother called on same issue. I got upset, because she was involving everyone around me on an issue we could debate within 2 of us. In front of her, I told my brother that I was going to do it in future when funds are available, but with how she was going with it, I won't ever do it again. When I ended the call, she started screaming and calling the neighbors. It was about midnight. Her story was that I was physically abusing her. Note, I am not defending any man who throws his children out, but most stories are crafted to always paint the man abusive and toxic. And sometimes we believe. |
Most insensitive statement from a supposed security agency. Such a sad time to be a Nigerian. In the last 5 years alone, more than 10 kidnappings have resulted in death of victims in my neck of the woods. Are those ones stage managed? |
IamANigerianMan:Do Polytechnics now award PhD? Where did you get the info from? Because it is not in the above OP or the link provided. |
JuanDeDios:I don't think it is hysteria or suspicion. It is scientific. If you have indept idea of the biochemistry of foods, as it relates to the physiology of the human body, you would avoid GMOs as much it is possible. Ask yourself, do the rich owners of these GMO promoting companies consume GMOs? Why do most rich people and renowned scientists avoid GMOs? One of the major precursors of cancer is MUTATION. GMO is produced via mutations. The DNA and RNA backbones of GMOS are already altered, and if they get into the human system may cause a different mutation that may lead to life threatening consequences. GMO should not the first or only option for food security. My opinion though. |
Hogwarthtrades:Thank you for the information. |
Locotrader:Unrelated question base on your attached page: Are there any craft beer companies in Nigeria? |
CatchMeIfUCanMO:Government money may not be the initial target. Their intent is to spoil market for hustlers making and selling plantain chips. Either to force them to get NAFDAC number or one big chip company is trying to gain more market share, thereby bringing up this unscientific lies to discredit roadside chip sellers. |
comodo:I seriously doubt this. What money cannot do (in Nigeria) does not exist. Some big plantain chip makers want more of the market share. They find ways to demonize the small roadside hustlers and remove them from the business. No chemistry whatsoever can allow plastic to dissolve in hot oil to form a homogeneous mixture. The Agency that went to press with this, without proper investigation is wicked. |
Natbrowny:Precisely 12 years ago, a Ghanaian friend of mine gave me an academic paper (sometimes called Term Paper) written by a Nigerian student in his class, to read. The paper attempted to look at the high rates of suicide in the western world vis a vis our African countries. One of the points the students raised was the individualistic life in the western world versus our communal living arrangement. The student opined that in Africa, people are more open to share their challenges with immediate and extended family members, hence reducing the level of depressive thoughts. A person's personal problem was shared by many close family or community members. The paper made sense to me at that time. But that was written at the time social media was evolving or say not wide spread in our communities. As such, perhaps, we didn't hear much about many suicide cases. Until recently, discussions around suicide were heavy and sometimes done in hush-hush voices. Suicide was frown up as a taboo in almost every African community. With the interconnectivity of the world via internet and social media, all that has changed. We are becoming more self-centered. People are shamed and dragged on social media for even minute mistakes and challenges. We joke about suicide cases. We started seeing comments like "go and hug a transformer", " go drink snipper", and other damaging statements. NO EMPATHY at all. What could be done to reduce depression and depression induced suicides? 20 -50 years ago, people were less educated, tge standard living was lower, yet people were happier, and had better skills in handling life challenges. They also had family and community members who could help them navigate rough patches in life. Maybe we should look back at certain aspects of our society and cultural lives that were helpful and not throw everything away on the platter of modernism and wokism. |
Justkatty:Your last statement is in agreement with my opinion. We should look at the problem as a human problem, not gender based. What is bad is bad! |
Ahnii:While some of the stories there are terrible, up to 35-45% of those stories won't be confirmed as being true if subjected to cross examinations. Some men are loud, cheats(both genders cheat) and insensitive, but the way some women lie against their innocent husbands is scary. Most men are just walking corpse based on the lies heap on their heads. |
Justkatty:Is it not funny how we quickly generalize things like this? Bad behaviors are not gender specific. Except for some details here, I would have said it is a guy I am close to writing this. He is going through something almost identical to this. Or would I say his own is worse, because the wife's family tried to rubbish him too. Terrible human beings exist in both men and women. |
@maureensylvia, congratulations. Thank you for the detailed description of the procedure. What I don't understand is why NAFDAC officers in the SE/SS seem to have different processes. They are never straight forward down here. Roger or brown envelope is a must, no matter how you try. As a matter of fact, most federal officials in the North hardly take bribe compared to those in the south. Anyway, that is a digress. We move! |
Klass99:Are you for real? And a woman? Maybe there is hope. The modern woman doesn't believe in the headship of a man, in practice. The religious ones do everything to avoid the biblical passages that reference man as the head. This particular issue of man leadership in spiritual things have destroyed many homes. Even if I lead prayers for hours, my wife will still complain that it's not long enough to elicit God's blessings. She doesn't not only speak in this trained tongue (yes she attended a class forit), but writes her prayers request in gibberish (she calls it tongue), so that I, the "devil" cannot read it. Op, I will ask you to watch your back. This kind of stuff if not handled well, and early enough, will end in separation at best, or kpai you at worst. She would be told of certain things to do, to prove that you are the devil. |
We4all:Depends on lots of factors. Some 5 year olds can start learning how to wash their privates. But there are also kids of 7-8 years who still need help during bath time. Sadly, in a haste to get more things done, we sometimes don't start early to teach them (boys/girls) how bath properly. |
yomi007k:Where has this gotten us to? With Nigerians leaving in droves, do they denounce their religion and marital status to work for employers in Western countries? In western countries, most employers give coffee/tea breaks every 2-3hours. We encourage ethnic/religions division when it favors us, then turn around to shout segregation/racism when it does favors us. How does number of children and their ages affect my productivity please? cc: Bliss52 |
recklesslove:While this is true, almost all Nigerians are conditioned to believe everything is spiritual. *A lady delays in getting pregnant, it most be the parents in-law. Some even accuse the husband. Not looking back at reckless life she lived before, and how that could affect her chances of getting pregnant. Or just age factor. * A child is born with health challenges. If the father is rich, then he has used the child for his money. If the father is poor, then one rich uncle or old woman has given the child "witchcraft ". * A wasteful husband/wife is accusing someone of being the cause of their poverty, without seeing how they waste money to impress their peers. Nigerian is comic center! We believe in weird and absurd things! So, your suggestion, while very useful, would hardly work in a place like Nigeria |
Why do Nigerians expect things to change, yet we still do things the old way? Someone just sent me a link for one of the states' organized Entrepreneurship Accelerator Programme (EAP). A quick look at the form, I noticed that the request the following: * Marital Status * Number of Children / age of children * Religion and Denomination What on earth is the usefulness of these information for a training program? This is also of all employers in Nigeria. In fact, most CV (resumè) formats in Nigerian public and private sectors have space for above information. Please What is the usefulness of these usefulness information? |
ahnie:You are one of the few I like to read here. You give balanced takes sometimes. On the issue of not valuing Naija women? It goes both ways. In fact, Naija men who value and appreciate their women are far more than Naija women who do same to their men. On this present topic? The man no serious. He should be ashamed for even bringing this to the social media. Can't he cook? Most Naija men who date or marry onyigbo babes have to teach them many of our foods/recipes. |
This why most successful people say Financial literacy is as important as technical education or career training. If this guy is truly a graduate of a tertiary institution, then we are failing as a country. I believe this guy is just catching cruise sha. |
I find it hard to believe that a man will leave his family because his wife is not working or earning any income. Sounds absurd. I believe one of these 3 scenarios is likely going on: A. The man is in the hands (call it laps) of another woman. He is using the silly excuse of the wife not working to leave. B. There is another reason why the man left. But the OP is being economical with the truth. I have seen enough in my personal experience and those of friends, to know most of what we hear from ladies when relationships/marriages hit the rocks are not true. Most ladies like playing the victim cards. They tell the stories that will gain them more pity. C. Could be related to how she handles the little money the man brings in, or her attitude towards looking for the job. But if it is true that he left because the wife has no job, then the man still needs some growing up to do. And I will join others to advise OP to be very serious in looking for a job, to develop a new mindset of a new life without such a guy. |
Kobojunkie:Kobojunkie, the OP made some valid points. If I understand him well, he didn't say commercial bakeries should use clay ovens. He was talking about home baking. He even mentioned the advantage of home baking for people with some health challenges. In the west, many households bake their bread and other baked foods. They are able to do this because of constant power. Sadly, in Nigeria we hardly do homesteading or homemade goods. For few people who are interested to bake their bread at home, what do you suggest given the poor power supply in Nigeria? Nigerians should learn how to make lots of their food at home if they can. Foods such as bread, pizza, yogurt, wines/beer, all have homemade versions in most countries, except Nigeria. |
missjekyll:Most wines do not have any expiration dates. In fact, typical red wines are supposed to get better with time. Hence, aging of wines. But recently, many fruits aside grapes have been used to make wines. Some of these fruit wines are finished on the sweet side, with low alcohol content. Any wine with alcohol by volume (ABV) lower than 10% need some form of preservative. The expiry date is an indication of when the effect of the preservative will wear off. Wines above 10% (12% in some regions) are self preserved. They require neither preservative nor expiry dates. Most 4th street wines are about 8%. Hence the need for preservative. |
Please house, especially veterans who are dividend investors, how do you calculate dividend yield? Which price do you use for the calculation? Example: For 2022 Financial Year, GTCO paid N.03 and N2.8, as interim and final dividend respectively. On September 30th 2022 when interim dividend was paid, GTCO was N19.00. When final dividend was paid on May 11 2023, it was N24.00. How can one calculate the annual dividend yield given the example above. I be JJC, I need help. |
Beremx:I think you're one of the moderators here and a very long standing member. I guess there is a way you can pull up the editing history of any post. Can you provide such? Because I read this story within the 1st 1 hour it was posted. It has remained the same since then. Plus other person before you quoted the same story as the OP. |
Ndidi2:I guess you are just encountering the moniker (Kobojunkie) for the 1st time here. My advice is, leave our Kobojunkie to do his/her spin. Come back tomorrow with this exact story, s/he will give an opposite spin. |
NdubisiCharles:Your 1st paragraph and last paragraph are contradictory. 1. When your sister told you or your family 8 years ago, that her husband abandoned her/children, did you verify? Did you or anyone within the family ask the man? Or you just believed your sister? 2. According to your last paragraph, did the man make any effort to reunite with the wife/kids? If yes, when? 8 years ago or recently? 3. Your sister confirmed that the man is not violent or diabolical, he was only broke. Does this sound logical that a broke man will abandon his loving wife and kids? My take: Your sister painted the man as evil, you guys believed her without verification. Many families have been ruined by lies from women who couldn't stand by their husband during economic hardship. Except there are more to this story than you have shared. |
AgubataAkokwa:The minimum planting distance for coconut is 18ft apart. Average planting distance for healthy plants/yield is 25ft apart. Also, most plots in my area are 100ft x 50ft or 100ft x 60ft. Are plots in your area 100ft x 100ft? |
